We had a fantastic experience at Hansens in Encinitas! My fiancé and I stopped by on a lovely day and checked out their snow sale. I tried on a bunch of jackets and pants--shoutout to London at the fitting rooms, who was lovely! I initially left with a total of $381.58. But later, I noticed a couple of discrepancies: the jacket's discount was miscalculated and the pants were mislabeled as XS when they were actually smalls. After some research, I found the items for less on Amazon, so we called Hansens. My fiancé spoke with them, and they were willing to price match. Enter Patty, the awesome manager! Patty was incredibly kind and helpful--she matched the Amazon price and gave me a partial refund right on the existing order. I didn't even have to drive back to Encinitas or hassle with a return. Absolutely a must stop, tons of inventory and great brands. Extremely friendly staff always. Great parking! You're not struggling to find a parking spot. We were greeted by a friendly gentlemen and I asked him if they had any Hansen brand zip ups in the back similar to the color I was wearing. Nicest man ever, walked us up the employee room and showed us the back stock and helped me find a specific jacket I was looking for. Great selection of women's clothes, flip flops, bathing suits. Younger cashier workers always offer to hold the clothes you're purchasing so you're not carrying it around. A place we always visit when we're in the area. read more

As this has been a North County staple for years, how can you not love Hansen's? They have everything you could need for the beach, surfing, swimming, snowboarding, skiing, etc. They usually offer great deals at end of season too! If you are looking for any clothing or accessories whether for the beach or not, Hansen's is a staple. They have a great selection of Roxy, Billabong, Aloha, Melin, Vans, Brixton, Rainbows, etc. The brands they carry are honestly endless and they follow some fast trends but generally stick to their well-loved brands (for a reason). While customer service has always been hit or miss here, at the end of the day you can usually find someone to help you out if you have questions or are looking for something specific. It's a lot easier to find parking in their lot as it's gotten bigger over the years. read more

Whenever I find myself in the Encinitas area, I make it a point to visit Hansen Surfboards... I learned about this store from friends years ago and it has since become one of my favorite places to shop whenever I'm in the area (which is typically 2-3 times a year)! Over the years, I've purchased Vans shoes, Ethica undies for my son, a baseball cap for my daughter, sunglasses, a Vuori shirt, flip flops, etc... all this to say, Hansen is so much more than a surfboard shop! Pricing is reasonable and what you'd expect from the brand names that they carry... and sometimes they have sales (Memorial Day Weekend I believe). The employees working are friendly enough too... They have everything for the year round outdoor activities aficionado! They even have snowboard and wakeboard lessons. My thing is the apparel, so many unique pieces with great "California " color palettes . This are items that you cannot find in Michigan. I have ordered on-line before from Hansens, doesn't compare to the in store experience. The prices are moderate to higher, but they do have some sale items as well. If you need a great ski boot fitter, Squealy is your man! No need to go to Footloose in Mammoth as Squealy is likely better than anyone left at Footloose. He has been doing boot fitting for 20+ years and knows many people in the business and all the tricks of the trade to make your boots feel almost as comfortable as your favorite sneakers! Well, maybe not that comfortable but as comfortable as a ski boot can be. He spent a great deal of time with me tweaking my boots until they were comfortable. Also, if you need someone to install boot heaters, he's your guy. He does it the RIGHT way! I highly recommend him and will be going back this Fall to buy a new pair of ski boots from him. I was looking for a SPF 50 sunhat and I asked one of the ladies in front and she took me back to the section where the hats where...it would had taken me at least 10 minutes to find the section myself as the store is so spread out. Well on vacation in Encinitas, I wanted to find some cute hoodies to take home. I went in the shop today, 4/28 and was never greeted or even asked if I needed help. The whole time I was there there was a lady changing the racks up on the wall. She did not acknowledge me and she seemed very irritated barking orders to some of the staff. It was somewhat embarrassing. There was a rack of sweatshirts I was trying to look through but because I recently had a broken wrist it was very hard for me to push the shirts she also had taken all the clothes that were on the wall and put it on top of the rack and even though she looked over at me she never apologized, never offered to move something so I could look at it nor did she ask if I needed anything which would've been nice because I cannot find the sizes of the sweatshirts I needed. My husband was shopping there as well but I told him let's go. I'm not going to patronize a business that doesn't appreciate its customers. I worked in customer service for over 35 years and I know how important it is to treat your clients with . The store overall is beautiful and has great items. But when customer service is bad, that's a turn off to me no matter how good the store looks or how much fabulous inventory they have. read more

Ask for Squealy for all your ski/snowboard boots needs. Definitely get the heat molding and heel inserts as it made such a difference on the mountain. I bought new snowboard boots and scheduled time with Squealy 2 days before I went out to Heavenly for heat molding. Like Squealy said, better to spend 15 min in pain now than 8 hours on the mountain. Hansens has long been a respected surf lifestyle provider and I respect that . However, I am disappointed in the quality of my long sleeve Hansens surfboard shirt as a strange discoloration after the first wash and in the second wash using Spray and Wash did not remove the discolored spot which is on the front chest and very visible . So I hand washed in my sink with cold water and with two cycles of that the dye was bleeding out far too much for what should be a color fast dye for the price of this garment. (I co-owned a women's clothing company using dye sublimation that was featured in Tony's of Hollywood and produced T-shirts for Millers Outpost for men), so I know a thing or two about clothing and dyes). This much dye should not be bleeding after months of use and washing. I bought this shirt in July of 2024 during my annual surf trip in Carlasbad. I love the aqua marine color, the Hansens' logo but now won't wear it as it looks bad. It's 100% cotton made in Mexico and the UPC is UPC : 203NEPM. It's called " Hansen Mens Long Sleeve Shirt Neptune" in Marine Blue. $ 39.95 in XL. Hopefully this is not a trend and just a one off . read more

Squealy is the man! I had been struggling with ski boot issues for months and decided to take them to Hansen's. That's when I discovered the problem: the baseboards under the liners had completely disintegrated in both boots. George quickly helped me order replacements from Tecnica, but they wouldn't arrive in time for my upcoming ski trip to Breckenridge that same week. That's where Squealy came to the rescue! He jumped into action, MacGyvering a custom heel pad as a temporary fix. He spent over an hour meticulously crafting and adjusting the pads until they were perfect. The attention to detail and dedication he showed to ensure my boots fit properly was awesome. Thanks to Squealy, I had a great ski trip without any discomfort. If you need help with boot fitting, I can't recommend Hansen's--and especially Squealy--enough. read more

They have EVERYTHING from jewelry, enormous selection of flip-flops, UGGS, slip-ons, anything Beachy, home decor, lotions n potions, I mean it just goes ON & ON. Hansen truly ICONIC to SoCal and it is HUGE. There is also a separate surf shop portion, surfboards, sunglasses, wetsuits- all here, massive selection. We just browsed the day I was there but were left dreaming of the gorgeous high-quality merchandise. The swimsuits and clothes were amazing. If you are a tourist to SoCal beach life, this is a great place to soak it in. They do have gifty items to bring home, too. If you're seeking expertise while selecting a new board, Hansen's Surfboards excels in this area. Hands down... I am gradually getting comfortable with smaller boards but confused with the vast variety and needed help deciding on my next ride. Surf shops are a dime of dozen in SD, so I started off with my sweet friend Tianna, who is a longtime employee at Hansen. Her reply to my text was "We will get you dialed!", and indeed they did. I went in today after a long day at work, in no mood to shop. Tianna introduced me to Peter and boy did he listen to everything I said about my experience level and preferences. He then and set me up with the sweetest board for this spring/summer. He mounted my fins, tied up my leash, selected what I call a "body bag", and he delivered it to my truck. I so appreciated this because I'm on an orthopedic boot from foot surgery and needed that extra help today. Please note, I am not giving a good review because I have a friend who is an employee. I am just very pleased with the level of service I received today and felt the need to share it. Don't let the abundance of their rad retail in the entrance of the shop discourage you. It was difficult to remind myself that I came today for a new board and not a new summer wardrobe. Just keep walking towards the shoes, it's a large shop. You'll find off to the right the most beautiful boards. The board are all well organized and catorgized. I'll be back later this week to get into financial trouble with their bikini sale. Hansen's is a local legend and I finally know why. I popped in to ask about an upcoming ski rental reservation that I made. The guy that helped me could not have been nicer. I actually felt bad because he stopped what he was doing and not only answered my questions but got me measured and encouraged me to take down some notes. Visiting the area recently I needed a stronger leash during some swell. I was able to find a nice Dakine leash I wanted within a few minutes of entering the HUGE store. Majority of staff asks if you need help finding anything and don't act like you are hassling them with any questions you may have. They have a absolutely huge selection with all the main brands for soft goods (hats, tees, sandals, etc), already had some snow related outerwear and snowboards (this was mid October when I was visiting), tons of surfboards, wetsuits, etc. and only thing they didn't have were the Rip Curl booties I was looking for- had to go elsewhere for those. Prices are typical for surf brands, etc and I didn't see any "sale" rack. All in all I'd go back if in the area after positive experiences dropping by twice in a week period. read more
