Why can't all hotel/motels be like this?!?!? This place is hella awesome! Very stylish, functional, and has the technological amenities for a comfortable stay (ie. WiFi, USB hook up, clothing iron, television streaming options). The living quarters are very intimate. There are active train tracks across the street. Although you can hear the train, the trains don't come by frequently. The room even provide complimentary ear plugs, but honestly, you won't even need them. The boutique motel is located along side of businesses where the room doors/windows face a side street, but the neighborhood is very safe, and noise level is low. There are great local eateries in walking distance. There is just enough front parking for 1 vehicle per unit, so I do recommend carpooling if you come. There is optional parking across the main street by the railroad tracks, or the side street in which the front of the boutique motel is located on. I really like the "humanless" check in process. First time experiencing something like that. Although I was a skeptic at first, it worked out really well. Short walk to the beach. It really feels like you get a sense of how the locals in the area live, and you don't feel like a tourist. My stay was for 1 night, and it was an awesome quick getaway. I definitely will be coming back!

Stephen Moore is the best! My wife got me lessons while we were visiting over the Memorial Day…read moreweekend. He was very patient, and tried his hardest to get me up...so close! WARNING!!!! Took My Money, Canceled the Trip, Zero Accountability!!…read more Booking with Fulcrum Surf has been one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. I paid several thousand dollars up front for a Kelly Slater Wave Ranch trip -- something special I had planned more than a year in advance as a Christmas gift for my fiancé. After the initial deposit, my card was hit with additional charges I did not authorize or approve beforehand. I assumed it was part of the package and kept going because I trusted the company and believed the trip was secured. Then they went silent. For months. When they finally resurfaced -- over a year after taking and holding my money -- it was to tell me the trip wasn't happening. No apology, no explanation, no alternative solution, and certainly no urgency. The trip that I had paid for in full simply did not exist anymore. Instead of refunding me, they offered store credit, as if I should be excited to keep gambling with a company that couldn't deliver the trip they already took my money for. I declined and asked for a refund back to my original form of payment, which is standard for any legitimate business. Since then? Radio silence. No refund. No acknowledgment. No accountability. Just a company sitting on my money, hoping I'll get tired and go away. In my opinion, this behavior is deeply unprofessional and completely unacceptable. A company that can quickly charge your card but disappears the moment they owe you money tells me everything I need to know. If you're considering booking with them, here's my honest advice: don't. There are plenty of surf travel companies out there that understand customer service, deliver what they sell, and don't leave customers chasing their own money for months. After everything I've experienced, I would never book with Fulcrum Surf again and would strongly warn others to think twice before handing over a single dollar.

I hate to do this to a local guy - but dealing with him is fairly impossible and ridiculous. We'd…read morebeen months back to check out the "shop" and he was nice and very helpful. Every time we've been back since (a totaly of 4 more times) he's never once been there. We even called 10 minutes before we left our house and asked him if he was there today, he responded with "I'm here every day" to which he probably heard me chuckle in the background in response too. 10 minutes later? Not there. I feel bad for the lady whose shop he's attached too because she or her employers (mostly her) had to leave her shop to come over and help us. She's super sweet and I love her, but understandably and admittedly she knows nothing about SUPs. I'm curious to see what will happen to him after his Groupon release; we were actually thinking oh maybe he'll be there since he launched it right at the holiday weekend - but hey! No. We picked our own boards and came back to exchange them several times and not once did we see him or hear from him. We were even considerate enough to return them on time. He may have good deals but I just can't support someone who won't even be responsible for his own store.

Tom is a stand up guy (pun intended)…read more He was patient with my wife, a first timer, who didn't want to continue after stepping on the board, experiencing a few wobbles. But with Tom's assistance, she persevered, paddling along the shoreline, while Tom accompanied her, walking by her side on the sand. Twenty minutes later, my wife had the confidence to paddle the lagoon by herself, all thanks to Tom. We even brought our dog with us, a five year old golden retriever, and as an added bonus, we paddled her as well on the board. Yay! Thanks for the fond memories Tom, and all your help. We really enjoyed ourselves.

The surf camp experience in Algarve, Portugal that was advertised was not what we walked into when…read morewe dropped off our daughter and her two friends for Week 1 in June, 2024. It was a kids camp and an adult camp operated simultaneously at the same facility. Based on the conversations with Jose (the owner) and the experience detailed online, we were expecting (and our kids were anticipating) a bustling camp of approximately 30 kids from all over the world. Instead, our group got 7 other kids and 15 adults. We were told that this camp was a good one for our 12 year old daughter because it catered to the younger side of the 12 to 17 age range. It is incredible to us that we were told this without disclosure that, in fact, the camp catered to adults to the degree that the children attending the camp did not feel welcome at any of the facilities or secure in their own rooms. On the first night we were contacted by our daughter after she and the other girls went to bed. She told us she and the other girls felt unsafe. There were adults smoking, drinking, yelling and playing loud music at the camp bar, directly outside their bedroom door. The bedroom door did not lock and there was a door that led outside that also did not lock. The girls, aged 12 to 17, felt compelled to barricade their door for safety. We were told that the councilors left at 10pm, and the children were left alone with adult strangers in a house in a remote location. The partying and loud noise continued out at the pool area until after midnight when one of the older girls went out and had to ask the adult guests to turn the music down. The following morning the parents of all but one of the girls pulled their kids from the camp, leaving one girl alone. Some parents were scrambling from other countries to get their kids back to the airport less than 12 hours after they arrived. Our kids had been looking forward to this camp for months and the disappointment was palpable. Nomad refunded our money. Jose, the owner, never reached out to speak with us or respond to our emails or WhatsApp messages, despite repeated requests.
