Had my old beat-up board for a decade & was in dire need of a new one. Degree33 kept popping-up as a great place with awesome boards & board selection. Rolled in, spoke with the dude there, & rolled out with a new 9'r (Ultimate Longboard Surfboard Blue Dip (Epoxy). Lightweight and a floaty. Im 5'8" and about 175/80 and this is perfect. Ive gotten a few comments about the board color. In fact, while in Carlsbad, I had a guy yell over to me, "Degree33 huh!" I guess he was headed there the next day to pick one up. Glad he wasn't yelling at me for ganking his wave:-) And, as for the Company itself, its filled with great employees who know what their talking about. Its not filled with a bunch of 16-18 year old's who know nothing about customer service. I went to 3 different surf shops from Oceanside to Encinitas. Young stoner kids wondering around saying "wazzup"; but no, "can I help you with anything". All three places were the same. Once at Degree33, was greeted instantly with a mature young kid, "good afternoon sir, welcome to Degree33. What are you looking for today?". And there you go. Basic (and lost) art of customer service. We chatted for 20 minutes and he listened the whole time...narrowing down exactly what I want and need. And the selections were insane. In fact, I told one of my buddy's, who moved out of state, about this place. He went online and bought a board and had it shipped to me for when he visits next. 2 months postpartum and needed a grom board to ease back into surfing after going over the falls on my epoxy longboard and banging up my knee. I do not recommend degree 33. I ordered a clearance board. It arrived damaged. They would not accept a return and I paid for the repair in exchange for store credit. The charged me $100 to ship 12 pounds. They sent a cheap substitute and the wrong fin. The process took 3 months. I really regret using degree 33. read more

I started out renting boards from degree33 for a weekend trial, was surprised they gave me a brand new board with fancy fins. Thought I'd be getting some old beater. Everything from phone call, pick up and waxing was a great experience. It made me want to come back and consider seriously buying. I'm just a beginner, don't know much about boards, but I love my coral 8' ultimate longboard and I know good service. I've taken the board out twice already and I love the upgrade from my wavestorm. Firstly, the guys and girls working here are super rad. Quality service - absolutely cannot beat it. The communication experience was wonderful from start to finish. Ordered online, got a few confirmation emails, then got a call when my board was ready. About a month later I got an email from them asking for my thoughts. I had a good back and forth with a rep who eventually kinda quit talking to me after I pointed out a few things in the product I wasn't liking, but it was a typical surfboard thing that happens over time... That leads me to the product. I bought the Epoxy Codfather - fun little board. I bought epoxy thinking it would last a lot longer than my fiberglass board. Womp womp. Within the first week of riding it, the top of the board had the stuffing dinged out of it. I was bummed about that since it was so new, and what I lost contact with the rep over when I was emailing him. About one and a half months after the purchase, the paint started peeling, but since it's a weird paint over the epoxy (or maybe it's the epoxy), it feels and looks weird - almost like a hole in the epoxy, but it isn't (or at least I don't think it is, riding the board a month later and it doesn't feel waterlogged). The ride itself is a lot slower than I was used to, coming off a CBC Fish, but still is a fun board. Once I got the feels of it, I catch just about everything I go for if I'm in the right spot, and it's a moderately smooth ride. Not the best board for snapping off the top, but it performs well when you want to get around a section and need some speed (especially on sloppier days). It's a fun little board and I like it - but am not sure I love it. They hooked me up with a leash and a board bag when I bought it - both of those are quality products. I'm considering buying the retro fish soon before I make my finial decision about it's products. Overall a 4 because I've had an awesome experience with the customer service folks and it's a fun board. Right now, would definitely recommend for someone looking for a quality and affordable board to mix up those quiver a bit. Cheers! read more

First time surf board buyer. I skim board a lot and wanted to transition into surfing. Look around first and not going to lie, Degree 33 got some pricey boards. For me, it was a good purchase. I live in the Bay Area and Surf primarily in Santa Cruz where waves usually vary between 2-5 ft. I've tried the Odyssey, Wavestorms, you name it. I feel like if you have the extra cheddar you should give these boards a try. They have an affirm program and it helps with people with a budget, paying off little by little at a time. They have a 33 day program also, so if you don't like it, send right back to them. I'm just in love with my board the 9' ultimate. Thanks to Rob, really nice. Terrible place to buy surfboards especially if they are on "sale". Purchased this board (Fish & Specialty Codfather Blue Epoxy) during the cyber Monday sale for $350.00. Less than 4 months later I find a crack along the middle into which water began to seep in. I reached out to the store regarding this (after several repair shops advised me to do so given the repair cost would not be worth the poor quality of the board). I didn't receive anything but an offer to have their repair shop give me a quote. This is my 5th board and never have I encountered such poor quality and customer service with my prior expoxy or fiber glass boards. I decided to avoid spending more $ repairing the board. Sure enough the board began to crack in half from opposite ends (see pics posted). I definitely would not recommend buying here read more

Bought a NexGen epoxy 6'2" Codfather fish here last month. They were very helpful on the phone when I finally got through in helping pick the right size and style for my level and weight and age. Ordered online and picked up the board the following week. It was ready to go and they threw in some Solarez... This morning, third time out on the board, a longboarderer ditched his board in front of me when an outside wave came in. I ditched mine and covered up as I went under. I came up, safe and sound, the guy apologized, and I hopped back on the fish and paddled away. A few minutes later I noticed the 5" gash his fin left on the top side of my board. I emailed Degree33 some pics and told them the story. Within an hour or two, they got back to me with apologies for the incident, and explicit instructions on how to repair the board step by step. Awesome! While awaiting their email response, I took the board into a local shop for advice and the shop guy took a look at the board and mentioned how nice a glass job it was. Sad my new baby is jacked but should be ridable in a day or two, once I can finish patching her up. read more

Coming from a customer support background myself, I highly recommend Degree 33 as I've had the most incredible experiences with them! Experience #1 -- Shortly after purchasing my board I had a neck injury so I couldn't surf. Without hesitation Degree 33 extended their '33 ride it guarantee' and after finally being able to try it out months later, I was able to exchange the board for a better personal fit. Experience #2 -- I'm infatuated with my Ultimate 8'6; it helped me progress from beginner to intermediate within the short timeframe of two months. Unfortunately it had some fin box issues; the first time I had it fixed, but the second time around it seemed odd it would break again without putting much force on it. Kudos to Degree 33! I recently was in the market for a board and was looking for a universal wave magnet for my kids. I needed the board to be durable, but also wanted it to be performance oriented. After searching for options, I found Degree 33 had a hybrid soft-top. I reached out to Degree 33 about demo-ing their model and Trevor (co-owner) was able to setup a rental for a week. Traditionally soft-top surfboards can be heavy, bulky, stiff, and short of being a flotation device to get newbies in the water. I was completely impressed with the board, the weight, the skin, fin options (thruster) and especially the rail design. Unlike most soft-tops or bulky foam boards, Degree 33 has focused on craftsmanship, especially with the rail design to boost performance. The result is a surfboard that paddles really well, and surfs with fun & performance, beyond most boards in this category. I surfed this board throughout San Diego county, and it performed well in the smallest of beach breaks and exceeded expectations in solid 4-5' waves at the cliffs. Needless to say, after demo-ing the board I went back and purchased a new board from Degree 33! Love these guys. First came across them when I was first learning how to surf at 48. Got their training package to get me to the next level in 2014. Got three of their boards. My friend just bought one after trying mine (almost didn't get it back). Bought my first in 2015, a 7'6 Weapon, as I was transitioning down from a long board. So easy to paddle and cuts and feels like a 5'6 in knee high to overhead. (Totally my favorite) Got my second 5'11 Codfather Fish when I dropped my daughter off for college at SDSU in 2016. Slippery and fun in the inside crap or head high steep drops screaming down the line. Got my third in 2018, 7'0 'Speed Egg' when I needed an easy fun/short board for Hawaii's wedges or bombs. I've been surfing for ten years now and have 9 surf boards and1 paddle surf board from different manufactures. But my favorites by far are the three I got from D33. I love Yelp, what it stands for, letting the customer have their say: being able to rain sweet and swift poetic justice on a crappy business....but every now and again you see a good restaurant or business that's just getting the SHAFT. I've been a customer here for almost 3 years now, and this isn't a 3 star establishment. Never seen so many filtered reviews on ANY business. My first board with these guys was a custom 6'8 Hybrid Fish---this thing is over 2 years old. AND IT LOOKS LIKE HELL. It's bright red, with black swirling tribal tattoo designs all over it. The worst part: I picked the colors and the graphics. But this thing has been left out in the sun, ridden onto the shore, dropped from the roof of my car onto the concrete---it's taken every sort of abuse imaginable and it still performs like a beast. Are the boards perfect? No. No board is. But its hard to go wrong on a brand new board for $550. read more

After searching for weeks to find the perfect replacement for my 9' Stewart Hydroglide that just wasn't working in the Rockaway New York City Waves, I decided upon Degree33 because of the fair price (mine was additionally on sale) as well as the 25$ off, AND I could make it in 4 payments which wouldn't squash my budget. After great customer service, The Board didn't seem to take too long to fly from San Diego Airport to JFK when it was packed and I received the shipping notification... (7-8 days) But if I hadn't of tracked it so obsessively (it'd been a couple weeks since I'd surfed and I was reaaallllly feeling it), I wouldn't have known the board was in New York already... and If I wouldn't have had so much free to mess around on the Pilot Freight Services Website, I wouldn't have accidentally figured out that you had to make an appointment to even get your board delivered to your house additionally. There were zero directions from Pilot or from Degree33 that an appointment was needed and without the contact from Pilot to tell me my board arrived and was ready for official delivery, I felt lucky I figured it out on accident... Although I felt a lot less lucky when I realized even though my board arrived a couple days earlier than expected on the plane that there were zero "appointments" to receive my board for 4+ days after the fact. Not cool! Pilot arrived at my house on the 2nd go around to deliver (not well coordinated at all and the 2nd delivery attempt the driver was 15 minutes early and called my cell phone a couple times to ask if I was home or if he could leave). After getting one helpful person on the phone after that incident, he said their next appt availability wasn't for a few days but despite they could somehow squeeze me in the following morning "just in time to wax the board up for a surf" the customer rep said after I told him I had planned Saturday morning to paddle out. YES! There is a God! When the delivery drivers arrived the next morning they placed it at the building front doors and when I requested they help me carry it up they said it cost an extra 50$ to carry the board from the building front door to my apt two flights up. haha! After 150 and and make an appointment to receive it in the first place that I wasn't even told about. I was just like whatever and grabbed the 11 foot board box to carry myself when the men were like no, no it's okay we will help. Then carried it up. Needless to say after all that I hope Degree33 eventually can find a different delivery option. Sorry this turned into a Pilot Freight Services review. Oops. Anywho- after taking my time unwrapping the big baby being tickled pink the whole time and googling to find an instruction video on how to install fins and wax a board (my first brand new board) I was stoked as hell!! About 3 hours after delivery when I got the board to the beach to the first time and road that baby after the first pop up it was like a dream, though! I was in love! It made it was worth it all!! Best board I've ever surfed, including all the boards I tried at Witch's Rock Surf Camp in Costa Rica (which was about every beginner board there is haha). A friend who co-owns a local Rockaway surf school while down on the beach asked, "How was the new board?" I exclaimed "A world of difference, like night and day from the Stewart. I could actually ride this one immediately on the first try!" (It took me weeks to be able to get used to my Stewart Longboard and be able to pop up correctly). I highly recommend the boards! I am an avid surfer. I did quite a bit of research before deciding to go with Degree33. Like everyone I learned on a longboard and stepped it down to a shortie & fish. I am now 40 and thought I was done carving on the face, taking late drops just to see if you can and outrunning a wall of white just to say you did. I surf predominately in the South Bay region of Los Angeles and wanted something that I could call high performance and found the D33 9' x 22 3/4" x 3" Ultimate 9' NexGen Clear and without question 100% stoked on my decision. This board allows me to jump a wave earlier, take a later drop, draw a clean line and see how fast I can make her go. I absolutely love this board. I took this board out in our last SW swell where it was nothing but shortboarders out there and held my own just to see how she will handle in the winter. I've been wanting to drop down from my 7'6" funboard, so I chose a 7' Turning Point Hybrid board and am very happy with my purchase. My boyfriend got a surfboard from this place and, while he LOVES the board, it cracked the first time he used it. He was able to fix it himself, but it was still frustrating that it needed repairs after Day 1. Also, he ordered the board the DAY before the board bag sale and they didn't offer him the bag with his $500 board. Overall, the buying process was easy, communicative and fast but there are simple customer service deals that could have been better and the quality isn't as great as we'd hoped. So glad I got an email from Luc that reminded me to write a review!! I got a board from them a few months ago and drove all the way down from LA to get it. Reason being, they have stylish boards that utilize new technology to get you the best board possible. Not just that, but you can finance the thing!! $240 and I was out in the water on my 10' ($1,000) NexGen longboard. The buying process was so easy and everyone at the shop was super easy to work with and really cool. However, what really makes them go above and beyond is what happened after my purchase. My board got damaged all the way down to the foam after riding it just a few times. The rail had bounced off of my shin while in the washing machine and whereas my shin didn't even bruise, the board was unrideable. I will be the first to admit that the whole situation was strange as the board was solid, but sometimes weird shit happens. If this was a collision with another board, it had hit a rock or something like that I would have just sucked it up and gotten it fixed, but under the circumstances (sand bottom beach, no bruise, shin fitting in the ding perfectly) it seemed to me that maybe there was something structural going on. I contacted them, they reviewed my account of what happened, checked the build specs to see if they could find anything and got back to me right away. They said they looked into it and nothing in the specs suggest anything wrong with the build but because sometimes weird things happen and THEY STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT, I could bring it down and they'd fix it free of charge! They could have easily told me to beat it and that it was my issue, but they didn't. To take it a step further, once it was fixed, they said they wanted me to be happy and have faith in my board so if anything similar happened again they would review the board and make it right. Since then everything has been all good and I haven't had anymore issues despite taking worse falls than that day. I fully intend on upgrading to 5 stars, but let's face it, you wouldn't have read this if it was a 5 star review. These guys are awesome. Highly Recommended. read more

These guys are awesome! The whole team down there treated me like I was family from start to finish. I'm a bit indecisive some times and I'm not really someone who likes to just pick a board off a rack(although if I was this would be the board room I'd choose from) the guys down there walked me through my board options and we talked about my surfing and spots I like to surf. We settled on a shape and put the order in to be built. I have about six boards in my quiver and the board I ordered from here quickly went to the top of the list as my favorite board. I'm really looking forward to this winter to see how she dose in some +size swell. From beginning to end I have not found a better place to get a board built. They are priced really well too. I purchased a longboard epoxy 8.5ft about a year ago and am still completely in love with it to date. It was my first board purchase and it was an awesome experience. The few times I've gone here I'm usually the only customer which gives it a really personal experience. The staff helping me out gave me tips on waxing and helped fix my fin when it came loose a few months later. I came back in for pads for my new roof rack and we couldn't find any that fit. Instead of having me purchase something expensive or ordering something for me, they suggested using pip-foam from home depot. It totally works! Fits real snug on the rack and only cost me $2 at most for 6ft. Very helpful staff and beautiful boards. If I ever move away from my longboard I'd be sure to make my next board purchase here. read more

An apotheosis of superior customer service! First and foremost: if you are new to surfing...this is the shop for you. These folks know how to make you feel welcome and comfortable. From Gareck who gave me such good information--and took all of my newbie questions with patience and aplomb. And then to Holly with her follow up emails and making me feel my order was being taken care of. Impressive stuff. And then...I went and picked up the board at the store on a Saturday. And again: wowed by Holly and her husband. They were PACKED--and yet they had patience and showed me how to wax the board and even allowed me to do it in the back. Stoked! I seriously hope this isn't a premature review, but I just got my board (9'0" performance longboard), and these guys deserve a great and quick review to mirror their great customer service. I took care of everything online after several email conversations with Rob, who was prompt to reply to any and all emails. They did a great job on the shipping. As I unpacked the board, it was clear that they did everything they could to protect it. Of course, I was anxiously awaiting its arrival, so faster would have been better, but it was delivered pretty quickly and in perfect condition. I've only ridden the board once, and it was a great experience that I hope will continue. This was my first longboard purchase, made for the purpose of catching more waves at San Onofre with some pals that tend to ride longboards. My 7'6" funboard wasn't cutting it. I love the styling of their boards, and the price is phenomenal. It took me over a year to pull the trigger on a longboard, primarily because it seemed like I'd be spending over $1000 on a board, and I wasn't all that sure I wanted to invest that kind of money in a longboard. So glad I found Degree33. At their price point, it was worth the risk, and so far the risk has paid off with a board that's fun to ride. These guys want to get you on one of their boards, and they want you to love it. Can't wait to get back in the water. I'm sure I'll be on to a Poacher sooner rather than later. These guys are great! They love surfing and are willing to spend time explaining the nuances of each board. I've been surfing for 20 years and this shop is definitely one of the most helpful shops. Very friendly, and willing to help everyone from the beginner to the experienced surfer. Competitive prices! Pretty tough to find a better deal! The shaper has been around for awhile. I was initially drawn to Degree 33 because Of his experience working for Takayama. I have a 6'6" Poacher, and it's fun! A great board to use as step down from a longboard and just good board for San Diego! They also repair the boards for you there! All in all, I would definitely buy another board from them.
