I bought my long sleeve tee right around Christmas and last week I saw a whole bunch of threads coming out of the bottom of the tee. Rented a pair of foam boards and wetsuits from progression this morning and got out for about 25…read moreminutes until my girlfriend took a weird fall and dislocated her kneecap. We had to take a truck on the beach to moonshine because she was unable to make the walk to exit Leucadia beach. This was problematic for us because we didn't know how we were gonna be able to return the boards and wetsuits. I called the guy working at the store to work this out and he said it would be no issue at all for me to leave the boards and wetsuits at the top of the stairs and they would take care of the pickup. This was an absolute godsend. They went totally out of their way to help us out when we needed it, and they were very sympathetic and said they hoped that she was ok and they were sorry about what happened. On top of this they didn't charge us anything for the day. And on top of THAT they had the best prices out of all the stores we checked for rentals, very affordable and simple. I just have to say the service at this establishment is absolutely exemplary and the gentleman working the store that day should be commended. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to buy or rent surfing equipment in Encinitas!

She welcomed me in, immediately asked how she could help, and guided me through different wetsuit options that would meet my needs. She went beyond simply answering my questions, she walked me through how to properly care for the wetsuit, shared her own experience, and we ended up talking about surfing in general. Learning a new sport can be intimidating, especially when you walk into a store knowing you have a lot to learn and not wanting to feel embarrassed by what you don't know. Madeline made me feel completely at home. She made me feel excited to learn and, most importantly, like all of my questions were valid and not silly. She was so encouraging and genuinely made the experience fun. I had walked into several other surf shops on the street where no one greeted me or offered to help. To be fair, it can be intimidating to make the first move especially as a newer surfer when there is such a tight nit surfing community but Madeline was so great. Nikki, one of the co-founders, can be seen around the hotel at times checking in on things, socializing with guests, giving recommendations, and making sure everything is running smoothly. He is easy to get in touch with and makes the check in process simple. Surfhouse comes equipped with everything you could need during your stay including bikes, surfing equipment, and even surf lessons! You can book multiple different types of experiences through Surfhouse depending on what your interests are. They are dog friendly and require a small extra fee for bringing your pet which is so worth it. You can bike or walk to the beaches from here and it is close to several shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. There is a train nearby that can be loud when passing through, but that is something you will hear no matter where you are in this town and is not specific to this hotel. The hotel has cute common areas on the ends where you can hang out and chill on the patio. There is even an outdoor shower downstairs where you can rinse off after a day on the beach. There are only 8 rooms total, so you still feel like it is a relatively private place to stay without tons of loud neighbors or overcrowded lodging. The rooms themselves are clean, neat, and have beautiful decor. The rooms have several different setups, so you can book them depending on who is in your party and what bed arrangement you would like (twins, bunk beds, queen). There are several parking spots right in front of the hotel. The Surfhouse management seem to have thought of everything--I highly recommend coming here for a unique local experience when visiting Encinitas or any nearby towns!

I concur with Julie's review, Longboard Grotto has a great selection of sun dresses. I bought a Toes on the Noes sun dress there that I got much use out of (the stitching eventually wore out).
