I think for North County San Diego, this is a really good resource for Badmition and Tennis. I came here specifically to purchase a new tennis racquet. They had some amazing deals on some last year models which are still good and brand new. They specialize in Yonex racquets. There are only 3 parking spaces in front of the store, but then the store is really tiny so it is appropriate. Also, it is weird because the name of the store on the outside is Seaside Rackets, but on the receipt, it is called San Diego Badmition. I think that was the name of the place before they changed it. I think Seaside sounds better. This place is quite tiny so I think some of the racquets would have to be custom purchased. Also, I do not know how fast they string rackets, but it is obvious that they do it in the store. read more

Best customer service I've ever experienced! I reached out to Seaside about regripping 4 tennis rackets. Seaside came and picked up the rackets from my house within a couple hours and had them delivered back to my house the next day. All of this was coordinated in a few short text messages. I also inquired about buying a kids tennis racket. Seaside brought multiple options to my house and let my wife and I select which one we wanted to purchase for our son. COVID has been difficult for small businesses, but my experience with Seaside Rackets shows that it can also bring out the best in customer service. Great job, Seaside Rackets. Used to be a good place. Mike used to be very helpful. I have always had a very bad opinion about air club (owned by Mike and Sunny). I tend to avoid air club, to avoid confronting Sunny. Recently went to Seaside : Horrible horrible, customer service, Horrible attitude for a business. I drive 25 miles to avoid going to air club which is 5 miles away, and get ill treated. Unfortunately there is no other badminton shop in San Diego. I guess they are happy with catering with online orders and do not care about the physical store. Next alternative is to go to shops in Irvine / LA. read more

If you play tennis in north county, you have to stop here at some point. The owners are very nice and they have everything you need for the sport. I have been coming here for years to restring my rackets, and no one does it better. They are nice enough to loan you a racket in the mean time. Recently I also purchased a tennis shoes from them. Its so great to have all the tennis brands designed to play tennis, at one place. They have the biggest variety of any big store I have seen. I enjoy racquetball a lot, and I try to be competitive. A little difference in string tension or the grip quality could make you win or lose. Hence, I drive 15 miles every few months only to make sure my rackets get properly re-strung and maintained. This badminton store just blows my mind away. If you want a badminton or tennis racket, this is your place. They also sell shoes, shuttles, tennis balls and all types of accessories. They also offer racket stringing in-store. Sunny, one of the owners, is of great assistance if you are pondering what racket to buy. If you tell her what type of style you play, how hard you hit, offensive or defensive and additional information, she will find you a compatible racket for you. I just wished they had Victor rackets. I asked Sunny why they didn't have any, and she says they don't sell it because they believe Victor is of inferior quality as opposed to Yonex, Head, Gosen and Babolat. That's one thing I certainly don't agree with here there... Super frustrating experience. I stopped in one day in early April 2014 looking for some advice on a new racket, as I'm returning to the game after many years away. First of all, the guy in the shop didn't seem to have any interest in helping -- he was impatient with questions and not at all friendly. Nonetheless, against my better judgment, I bought a racket. It needed stringing, so he told me it would be ready the next day. I travel a great deal, so I asked them to send the racket to my office in Seattle. They didn't. After several months (three, to be exact), I called to inquire what ever happened to it. Pretty sure I talked with the same guy on the phone, and he again wasn't particularly interested in helping. After a couple days of research and calling back, he finally told me that "the girl who's supposed to ship it forgot to do that." Hmmm. Well, the guy who was supposed to charge me got that part right, so that was frustrating. You'd think after a screwup like that, they'd have tried to find some way to make amends, such as refunding the shipping charge, shipping it overnight, offering a coupon, or something. Nope. They waited another day and then shipped it UPS ground, so it will arrive nearly four months after I bought it. Maybe for folks who live nearby, or who have an acquaintance with the people in the shop, it's fine. I found them to be disinterested and unhelpful. I would not go back. read more

So I came into this store hoping to pick out a new racket. When I walked in, I noticed that the older guy (owner?) appeared to be the only one in the store...no other customers or employees...and he appeared to be chatting with a friend on the phone. Since I had questions about rackets, I just waited and looked at some of the rackets on the wall for 5-10 minutes. Amazingly, he never even acknowledged my presence and continued his blah blah blah on the phone. Needless to say I walked out the door and drove home to research rackets on the web and ended up getting a better price on Amazon. Brick and mortar stores like this need to realize that the only thing keeping them in business (in an online shopping world) is customer service. read more

Nothing but problems from this store. Purchased $100 racket with junk strings that management said they would replace for free if I bought it. So they did the restring was so loose it lasted one game. I came in to have it restrung again and they put junk back on and strung it way too tight. I will attempt once more. One thing is for sure . . . their horrible customer service appears to be consistent. I've been here a handful of times and although they have a robust selection of product, I walk out disappointed in myself for giving them my business. I wasn't even going to write a review until I saw that others have shared similar experiences. I've walked in one too many times and I will never walk in there again. I recently found another tennis specialty shop in San Marcos that I will be giving all of business to going forward. My son plays Varisty tennis and we have to have his racket restrung costantly, it seems. We like to have it done at Seaside Rackets because they do an excellent job. When it came to buying my son new "tennis" shoes we went back since we noticed the big selection. He got THE coolest pair of tennis ball yellow Asics that were about $24.00 cheaper than what I had seen somewhere else. I could go on and on about the service, incuding having the owner deliver a newly strung racket to me at the Mercury Open while I was volunteering there. Who does that? read more

This tennis shop is not very helpful at all. I came into the store in hopes of purchasing a solinco hyper G 16 string, and it took over ten minutes until Mike even acknowledged my presence. He acted as if I was not even there! I understand that I am a teenager but I am an avid junior tennis player and I did not come to be treated in a condescending manner. When I asked if he sold the string, he simply blew off the comment and said "oh, we don't sell this string. I can only string it for you." His prices are actually overpriced because I purchased some wilson tennis grips for $13 for 6, while the Big 5 in Lomas Santa Fe sold a 12 pack for $20. I would not recommend this store at all, because the service is terrible and Mike is no where near as knowledgeable as he may act. There are plenty other tennis stores in San Diego that have way better service and prices. read more

The personnel at Seaside are highly knowledgeable and made very good recommendations for tennis rackets for my two sons (Prince O3 white). In the two years since, one of my sons is now ranked #31 in SoCal using the rackets we got from Seaside. I've been buying cases of tennis balls and strings from Seaside for a number of years now. I know my sons' coach does also. I once recommended a friend to their store to help choose tennis rackets for her kids and they were very pleased with their demo program, as well as the friendly service they received. Thus, I feed completely comfortable recommending them to everyone. One thing I get from them I've never seen anywhere else are Wimbledon tennis balls. These are great because your balls are easy to identify, retain the bounciness even better than ProPenns. They're a bit heavier than most balls, but they're just fantastic for my practice hopper. They are the offical balls used at Wimbledon, which is kinda cool. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, good prices. I highly recommend. read more

I love this place!!! If you play tennis you need to visit this store. They are the best at racket stringing (and I mean the best.) and this service is rapid and always available. Name the kind of string you need, they have it. Also, I like that they don't mind taking time to answer whatever questions you might have about shoes or types of racket (power, control, etc) The owner was extremely helpful when my son needed to change his racket and he even let him try a wide variety before he finally made his choice. Also, I find prices to be extremely competitive and they always have sales and deals available. Since they moved to Encinitas, it's even easier for me to get there. I have been a customer for more than seven years and have never had a bad experience at SR. The owners, Mike & Sunny, are low-key and friendly. They help you select a perfect racket for your game, allowing you to demo several until you find the right one. They are the polar opposite to high-pressure sales. They don't try to sell you the most expensive racket, just the right racket. They restring my rackets, helping me find the right strings and tension. Very knowledgeable and reliable. I usually get five racquets strung per month. Thought I would try them out. I supplied the string, and paid in advance. The stringer misread the requested tension (51lbs)on the docket as 57. Second mistake, was he actually strung at 58, disregarding my request. Third, he said he restring it, if supplied more string....... No offer a refund...... Business goes elsewhere. read more

This merchant does not stand behind the products he sells. I returned a racket which the manufacturer admitted had defects. Mike Walker, the owner, would take no responsibility for the defects and insisted that satisfaction of the problems rested solely with the manufacturer. In my way of thinking, the profit you make in selling a product, especially if it has known defects, obligates the seller to make the transaction right. Mr Walker is a very arrogant individual who is very difficult to deal with. Deal with him at your own risk. read more
