Every club in my bag, from driver to putter, was Callaway. Then, when the USGA limited the size of driver heads to 460cc, I decided to buy a new driver. I went to my local PGA Tour Superstores and demoed a bunch of them. I tried them out on simulators and recorded my stats (e.g. ball spin, club head speed, distance, launch angle, and of course, accuracy). I also checked the clubs out and took them with me to the range. I had multiple demo sessions between two PGA Tour Superstore locations and the range. This was a big investment decision for me, especially since these drivers cost hundreds of dollars each. Brands I tested included Adams, Callaway, Cleveland, Cobra, TaylorMade, and Titleist. After extensive testing, the driver that came out on top for me and my swing was the TaylorMade Burner. I still use the driver to this day with relatively consistent results. I've been very happy with it. It's got a stock regular flex Fujikura graphite shaft and I've had the grip replaced with the tried and true Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip (it's on all my clubs but the putter). Other TaylorMade products I've regularly used include golf balls and golf gloves. I really liked playing the TaylorMade TP Reds before they stopped making them. They felt great. Recently, I've been going through boxes of TaylorMade Dad-isms golf balls. They're more of a gift than a "serious" competition ball. My dad found them on sale/clearance at his local sports store/golf shop. At my skill level, they work just as well as, if not better than, the old TP Reds I used to play. As for gloves, I currently have a small collection of TaylorMade Tour Preferred and Stratus gloves that will last me for years. Again, my dad found many on sale/clearance, this time, at the Golf Galaxy (IIRC) on Hilton Head Island. The gloves feel great. They fit well, are smooth and comfortable, and help give me a good grip on every single one of my clubs. I prefer the Tour Preferred gloves because each one comes with a roughly quarter-size magnetic ball marker on top of the velcro flap; not one of those tiny snap-in button ball markers. Dustin Johnson supposedly wore the same glove (either the Tour Preferred or Stratus, I'm not sure). At the time of writing this review, TaylorMade has a star-studded lineup of PGA Tour players that it sponsors including Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Matthew Wolff, Rickie Fowler, and Rory McIlroy. Currently, TaylorMade's most expensive product is the SIM Driver with an MSRP of $549.99. "SIM" stands for Speed in Motion, a "reshaped" driver with a "speed-injected" "Twist Face," among many other features that have been marketed and hyped up. Twist Face has always sounded gimmicky to me, but admittedly, I haven't tried out the relatively new technology yet. Regardless, TaylorMade is one of the pillar golf brands of today and in my experience, they produce solid clubs and accessories. I recommend their products to casual golfers.

Scott shortened, and weighted my Scotty Cameron Newport, and I like it more then I did prior. Likewise we now have a plan to change the weighting, gripping, and length on my putters. Well worth the cost of the putter fitting. Scott is fantastic to work with. Scott has also done excellent work on my driver grips, and the ball is going straight, and long. My Callaway Golf Big Bertha irons have stood the test of time. I'm pretty sure I have the 1994…read moremodel due to the font and placement of the numbers on the soles of the clubs. The 1996 model has the numbers engraved in the middle of the sole while the 1994 model has them engraved at the toe. However, what confuses me is the coloring of the numbers on the faces of the clubs. Mine are painted red, but I've seen models with the face numbers painted in black and white. I'll be impressed if anyone can definitively shed light on that nuance. I received the clubs brand new in middle school as a gift from my dad. I proceeded to play on the middle school golf team and have been an avid golfer since. The clubs were purchased from Oak Hollow Golf Course in my hometown of High Point, North Carolina. They were a big deal when I got them. At the time, they were one of the hottest, if not *the* hottest, clubs on the market. The irons have served me well for 25+ years, which is crazy when you think about it. I have a 4-iron through pitching wedge. Over the last 25+ years, I've had some close calls permanently losing some of these clubs. Like most golfers, they tended to be my short game irons, but I once left my 4-iron on a par-3 tee box at TPC Sugarloaf and didn't realize it until after the round. I drove back in the dark and found my 4-iron still sitting on the tee box. I left my PW somewhere on the course at Legacy Golf Links in Smyrna and luckily, someone turned it in. Those were my two biggest "lost club" scares and I was very relieved to recover my clubs in both instances. The irons are "fat" and forgiving. They continue to perform well to this day without any work done to the original shafts (graphite, regular flex) or club heads (except for the occasional brush at the driving range or wipe-off with a towel). Of course, I've changed the grips multiple times and have only played Golf Pride Tour Velvets. They're the best. On September 23, 2018, I hit my first-ever (and so far only) hole-in-one on the 10th hole at Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course in Buford, Georgia using my 8-iron. It was a contest hole, captured on video, and I won $2,500. Not bad for what was a 24-year-old club at the time. https://bit.ly/2V3n9T6 The irons, which include a lob wedge (that had to be purchased separately from the 4-to-PW set), have been constants in my bag since middle school. Other constants have been my fairway woods, same vintage: Big Bertha War Bird Fairway Woods 3, 5, and 7. The 7-wood was branded the "Heavenwood" by Callaway and even the headcover says it. I still have and use all the regular headcovers (great quality; more on that below). My mom got a ladies set of Callaway (again, same vintage) and her fairway woods even included a 9-wood, branded as the "Divine Nine." My dad has the Original Big Bertha Fairway Woods as well, the generation that came out before the War Bird models. The fairway woods have been good to me. They've come up clutch in many situations. At a club tournament I competed in in middle school, on a par-3, I hit my first shot into the water. The hole was a forced carry over a pond. I dropped in the rough in front of the pond and hit my 5-wood off the deck. The ball landed on the green and I two-putted for double bogey. I routinely use my 3-wood for my second shot on most par-5s. Unfortunately, the results for my 3-wood have become more inconsistent over the years. I tend to pull it more and more with my bad over-the-top swing, but when I nail it right, the results are great. Take for example, this awesome smack on the par-5 18th hole at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta: https://bit.ly/2SfJpHu. As far as the headcovers go, the Big Bertha War Bird Fairway Woods have soft, plush, velvety-feeling black or dark blue headcovers. I don't remember the original color because my headcovers have been faded/discolored by the sun over the last 25+ years. They now look like a dark bluish-purple. The quality of the materials is excellent as these headcovers have been in use for 25+ years with countless puttings-on and pullings-off. Compare that to my TaylorMade Burner driver headcover from 2007 which started crumbling and disintegrating less than 10 years in. The Callaway headcovers are still going strong. So yes, I do have a TaylorMade driver, but in the past, I used a Great Big Bertha Driver and The Biggest Big Bertha Driver. Driver technology was the golf club technology that changed the most since the 90s, so that's why I upgraded. However, the Great and Biggest Big Bertha Drivers performed well at the time. As for putters, for the longest time, I used a Big Bertha Blade putter. It matched the rest of the set nicely. It was heavy and long. In hindsight, I much prefer the old-school PING Anser and my current Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball putters (Odyssey is owned by Callaway). Side note: I love the metal targets at each distance, much better than flags. Things I learned: feel vs real. (my head moves back more than I thought, left arm position at impact etc) While the new student assessment isn't really a traditional golf "lesson", there's still a ton of things i learned watching the replays and will take that info back with me to practice. Ideally after this, you would then schedule your next "traditional" golf lessons to improve on the issues discussed. If I still lived in SD, I absolutely would come back for more lessons.
