Encinitas Ranch Golf Course off of Leucadia offers a fun coastal track with expansive fairway views. Generous off the tee with wide fairways as well as large landing greens. A couple of interesting uphill holes sure to test any golfer at any level. Managed by JC Golf, the course was a great condition considering how many golfers go through it a given day. The wife and I brought dad here because this is a course where you come to feel good about your game. It may be fairly big, but it is wide open. The course is still pretty green in spite of some hot streaks. STAFF are friendly and kind. As expected, I was inconsistent given the lack of regular play but had some very good moments. Dad was on fire with the newer condition TaylorMade loaner clubs. I have never seen him hit like that. The course is in good shape overall. It is so popular here it is rarely very affordable. As a result, we will be twilight or out of sight. The jumbo choc chip cookies are pretty legit too. We went peace out after 9 as dad had enough and I was playing on a sore rotator cuff, so it worked out for both of us. read more

I happened to be in Encinitas and had 6 hours to kill and decided to golf at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. I was hoping to hit balls at the range and then get lucky as a walk-on single before 9am. Lo and behold it worked out to perfection. The range facilities were great. The hitting mats had a little fluff so it didn't feel like I was hitting on a flat hard mat. Obviously grass is the ideal but these mats worked out great. The attendant (I forgot his name) in the pro shop was very helpful and made sure to try to get me out before 9. So I got out on time and the course was in great shape. Bunkers were perfectly raked and the greens were blazing fast. It helped that my game inexplicably came together (that's golf!) and contributed to my positive experience at this course. The pace of play was perfect. All around I had a great experience at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course and will definitely be back! read more

First time playing this beautiful San Diego course! Was fortunate to get the first tee time of the day at 6:45 am. Keep in mind you'll still have a group in front of you. We had a foursome of employees in front of us but they were so fast we did not even notice them. Fairways are wide and forgiving with not too many places to hit out of bounds or into a hazard. Many golfers rave about shooting a PR at this course. $76 plus $16 for a cart with the JC rate was solid. Greens were in pretty good condition and on the faster side the front nine then slowed down on the back 9. Got a birdie on hole 13 so was stoked about that! Some of the 'service' including in the Ranch Grill has been OVERLY familiar ( mature female staff member who allegedly has a boyfriend ...yet acts overly familiar with older male guests ...you know who you are) . It's a shame watching this go downhill year after year. Bad spots everywhere along with real rough conditions around all greens. Put this together with waiting on every hole to play and it's just not worth the time anymore. They just won't manage their groups pace of play. They know golf is popular and they'll fill their spots each day so they just don't give a crp. It's a money game with this management group and zero pride in ownership because they don't really own anything. read more

Poor booking experience! Had to pre purchase 4some, even if you are a single and then "sell" the remaining tee times plus service fees for booking/selling. Poor faq regarding selling your tee times. Difficult to cancel and rebook- this means you would have to purchase 8-tee times. It cost over $100 in fees and we haven't been able to secure a future tee times. So frustrating!! read more

This was my first time to play this golf course... The locals call it "Easy Ranch Golf Course" It is actually a lot easier than most it's pretty wide open the space not a lot of trees nothing to get into your way and there's really only two areas of concern to lose your ball... it's a little bit difficult as it goes back-and-forth to try to find when is your next hole. We played at 5 o'clock and finished at about 730 I would recommend always bring a sweater or jacket, as the breeze from the ocean is so nice but it does get very chilly when the sun goes down.... They closed the main restroom inside. when we finished so we had to go all the way around to the back of the building do use the outside bathroom. read more

I am updating my review: I previously have had a difficult time with tee times and bookings, but I recieved a call helping explain the situation a little bit more. I have previously asked for assistance at the front desk, but calling JC or Encinitas Ranch assistance line should be able to assist more with any outlying issues. This review will now reflect how the quality of golf is at the course. It is a very forgiving course, making it one of my favorites. In north San Diego up in Encinitas this course is on the easier side with wide open fairways that let you stay in bounds if you miss hit your drive but the greens can actually be a hit tough in an enjoyable way. Course was in great shape and they've got a great driving range as well as putting greens. Hardest thing on this course is to get a good tee time because they have kept pricing reasonable even though their competitors in Orange County and San Diego doubled their pricing in the pandemic, which was a pleasant surprise. For a foursome, carts, 2 pairs of Travis Matthew shorts, it was still all under $400. Great value and price for such a nice course. My experience at this course is limited to group lessons with Scott Newman. The first series focused on the full swing, where we practiced in a private, all grass area on the opposite side of the driving range. The second series was all about the short game with a nice putting green setup surrounded by some areas for chipping. Scott has a great approach to teaching that is a perfect blend of nonchalant, technical, and fun. He can make it super simple for newbies like me, or he can get into precise techniques with those who have been playing a while. He also has standalone group or private lessons if you don't want to commit to a series. Essentially, anything you want to work on, he can help you! Just moved here from Northern California. After a couple of weeks unpacking I was itching to hit some balls (golf). Encinitas Ranch Golf Course was closest to the house so I grabbed a couple of clubs and headed out. Parked the car and went straight to the driving range. Grabbed a basket and placed it under the golf ball dispenser. What? Can't pay cash or card at the machine? I turn around and head to the pro shop scratching my head and feeling this is a flashback from the 90's. Way behind the times. $12 for a large bucket of golf balls was another head scratcher. Back to the ball machine now. Im off to the range with my large bucket. Grabbed the first station that I came to and dumped the bucket of golf balls. Looking at these golf balls I was at a loss for words. Half the balls were decent and the other half were junk. Balls (golf) need dimples to fly straight. Maybe they are unaware of this. I guess when Encinitas Ranch Golf Course needs new golf balls they look at it as just needing more. I don't think I have ever been to a driving range that didn't pull the old lot of balls (golf) out of play before introducing the new lot. This makes absolutely no sense. The course was great! Just golfed today 9/5/24. We had a horrible experience with the marshal. He approached us 5 times about pace of play. He threatened that he may make us skip a hole. The group behind us never came close to catching us and they never had to wait to hit. We only saw them on the tee box 3 times while moving to the next hole.We ended up catching the group in front of us on hole 15 and had to wait. He was only concerned about the time , not the actual groups playing and where they were on the course. We felt rushed for no reason at all. I will never go back unless the course address the horrible rude behavior. We play a lot of golf and have never been approached on pace of play. We always play ready golf. I you want to have a good time definitely do not go here. read more

This review is solely for the driving range. It is absolutely terrible. You can not use tees. I just don't get why they don't correct such a simple fix. The mats are like hitting off hard dry dirt and they have wood under them so no tees can push through. They don't even have rubber tee options. I'll be happy to delete this review when they make such a simple fix happen. UPDATE: moved from 1 star to 3. They ditched the mats. They still don't have yard markers but moving in the right direction. read more

Course is actually a fun one and in pretty good shape. The head golf professional is about as unprofessional as it gets though. I booked my tee time online for 2:51pm for $34 +15 for a cart for 9/7/21. After unsuccessfully trying to get us to sign up for a JC membership, he told us the round would be $82 to ride. I informed him the website said $49 to ride at the time and he said for residents or members only and $82 was what we would need to pay to play today. We all reluctantly paid as my confirmation email didn't have the quoted rate. When I decided to go back on the website and find a matching tee time and present it to Jason he then decided to honor the $49 rate we were quoted but was very hesitant in and unapologetic in doing so. Please work on getting a more professional "head professional"!!! read more

Nice course, but the operations needs some work. First, I go to the clubhouse, order food, and then pay for my round and cart. The attendee behind the counter says I can grab my cart and go get my clubs and head to the range, but can't park near the food/bar area which simply wasn't factual. Then I go to retrieve the cart and the guy working tee times tells me I can only grab my cart 10 min prior to tee time which unfortunately was their policy as confirmed later at the clubhouse? So to hit balls on the range and warm up, just know you can't use a cart for any of the prep. Lastly, the Guy you report to for tee-off just simply couldn't grasp the concept that I arrived by myself and kept trying to tell me I didn't pay for my cart after placing me with three other players. Simply not the best experience. However, now I know what to expect! read more

Encinitas Ranch is a fairly well maintained course with wide open fairways, fast greens and spectacular views! This place is wide open and the ocean views are awesome from several of the holes as this place is nestled amidst the hills in Encinitas. I would classify the course as being rather easy as there aren't many difficult holes nor many hazards and the fairways are generous. Overall, this place is a great place to play and it won't break the bank in the process. Encinitas Ranch is a beautiful golf course. It is always maintained very well. It is a fun layout, and wide open - so those of us that tend to spray it around the entire course, can do so without getting into too much trouble. The fairways are lush, and the greens are quick. The pace of play can be a little slow because it is always so crowded. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars, is the difficulty in getting tee times. We are JC members (and have been for over a decade). We are able to book a tee time 8 days in advance. Unfortunately, being able to book 8 days in advance does not help to get a tee time because the course allows Encinitas residents to book times 9 days in advance. It is virtually impossible to get a tee time (for non encinitas residents) between the times of 7:30 and 2 pm during the week. It would be really nice if the course would at least hold some of the tee times available for jc members to have a shot to play this course once in a while. As far as all of the negative reviews for the people in the pro shop. I have never had any problems with anybody in there. They aren't always the friendliest people in the world, but we have never been disrespected or treated badly while at Encinitas Ranch. Great course, it would just be nice to be able to get on it more often. read more

Want an awful place to try to relax and get in a round of golf. They're up your arse when you're blocked by people in front of you and then yell at you for it. I've never been to a place run by the rudest, incompetent people in my life. Used to love coming here as part of JC, especially on the range but forget about it now. The course is nice,open fairways make it forgiving. Three star rating as it toook five hours to play Saturday afternoon, June 14. We had two holes of pleasant golf and caught the foursome ahead of us on number three. Waited every hole after that and it really slowed on the back nine. Hard to tell if Marshall's we're not ddoing their job or if they overbooked. Either way don't play here on weekend afternoons unless your ready to suffer a very slow round. update 7/15 Course looked great today and we played an Afternoon round in 4:20. Also, being told I should "Be happy to play here" by the pro shop cashier after questioning the price really sets an example of the elitism here. This club thinks they're the best course in socal. This overrated, average course never has times available for the public. We used to play here every week because it was so close but as of a year ago (well before COVID) they started acting like u had to be a pga pro to even consider getting a tee time. It is harder to get a time here than any other other course in SoCal including maderas, TP, and aviara. For the driving range: The grass is not maintained at all. There are holes absolutely everywhere and they do not have anyone cleaning this. You can't stand to hit a ball without standing on multiple broken tees, or lopsided from standing on divets. There is no grass that you are aiming for, it is hard dirt that makes your ball roll farther than would ever happen on a course. It's really unfortunate because it is a big space that could be fun. Putting grounds: They just installed a new mini putting course that is rad! It has some cool angles for the ball to fall, and hills in a small area. They also have their old putting grass that is large, and also not very well maintained. It has a few divets, and isn't anything special, relatively flat. The Course: Not a crazy hard course, but it is fun, and if you go at the right time of the year the grass is beautiful. I appreciate the varying difficulties on the holes, it makes you use all your clubs to play smart! read more
