Love this course! It's always well-maintained, and I really appreciate that they're dog-friendly. The staff is super nice, and there's a pro shop on site too. You can even order through their app, and they'll deliver right to you on the course, such a great touch! There are plenty of trash cans and restrooms around, which makes a big difference. The staff was great and even brought my dog an extra treat when I ordered a beer on the course, which they delivered quickly. I'm a beginner golfer and when my brother, who's an avid golfer, comes to visit. We prefer to play executive par 3 golf courses. Emerald Isle is close to home & is my favorite course. It has some fun, challenging-enough-for-more-experienced golfers holes but playable for beginners (especially when using the white tees). Getting a tee time, especially during the week, is pretty easy when booked in-advanced online. Plus when booked online, you can play 18 holes for $20 (Nov 2023), add $10 if you want a cart - very affordable. I was a member at El Camino CC for 12 years buy a serious motorcycle accident, stopped my golfing, I began playing EIGC for about 10 years ago, first at the driving range (NO Driving range at El Camino) then as I got stronger, I began playing the course. I LOVE playing here. The course is challenging enough though short. I do use my 3h/4h/3w on one hole each. I still play regulation courses, but at my age, slow play being a constant issue, I don't do it very often. EIGC made golf FUN again for me. I used to be a 12-15hdcp I go out a play 2 balls when possible, by myself and I live 5 minutes away. Staff is friendly and helpful, what more could you want. read more

I never give five stars, but this time it's justified. Is the course in the greatest condition? No. It's a perfectly playable exec style course. This is about a much needed change in the culture of golf courses. Not surprisingly, this business has what all great businesses have: great people. You won't find Khakis here. At all. Is the guy behind the counter helping you wearing sunglasses indoors? Yep. Are they also, as a group, the most helpful, down to earth golf operators I've come across in 40 years of playing? Yes, they are. They put a focus on friendliness, good food, and no judgement. My 13 year old had played two other places, but once she came here, this was her spot and she doesn't want to play anywhere else. While I understand the Country Club culture needs to exist for a certain element of golfers, I really believe most clubs could take a page or two from the staff at Emerald Isle. Well done. read more

Had a tee time for 3 people at 1:20pm. At 1:15pm, we drive up to the tee box to warm up and take few practice swings and there was at least 6 carts in front of us. We ended end up not teeing off until 2pm - 40 minutes after our tee time!! Seems like they have a lot of walk-ins and they don't monitor tee times. It's a fun course to play if you have all day to kill and aren't bothered by the quality of the greens. read more

The staff was super nice, nature is beautiful around it, for the price you're paying it's a nice spot. As far as for the overall experience, not so hot. The pictures make it look amazing and from a few yards away it looks really good but you're practically teeing off from green concrete. It's a very shallow green on top of nonstop sand so it's more challenging to get under the ball while also not cringe from the feel you get with the irons when hitting the ground. I personally love morning golf but this course is set up where the first 9 holes are all facing the sun rising. Also, they crew were watering the grass right ahead of me (at 7:30 am) so I ended up hopping 2 holes to get ahead of the sludgy green and puddles. read more

Love coming here to hit balls on the grass range. You can also bring your dog which is super cool. The bar and grill is good with good drink selections and the chicken sandwich is so good! Natalie the instructor is legit and has helped my game with private lessons. I've also attended the young adult clinic and learned a lot plus made great friends. The events here are also super fun like rookies and rosé which is for beginners who want to socialize and drink wine! They have wine dinners, glow ball and a Xmas event with real snow! Rounds are shorter here and affordable since it's a par 3. Highly recommend! read more

This is one of my favorite courses in the OC. Why? They're DOG FRIENDLY. This course is a shorter than your typical executive courses at par 59 with majority par 3s and very few par 4s. Though, just because it's a shorter course does not make it any easier. The holes are very narrow and challenging, if you can't hit straight, make sure you yell fore before hitting. As well, many holes require you to hit uphill over water hazards, making this even more challenging than it is already. Moreover, the greens are very deceptive steep slopes. You may get on the green from the tee box; however, be careful of your putts: 1 slight miss and you can find yourself walking down the steep hills to the rough for a chip shot. While this course is challenging, the greens are fairly well maintained, better than some regular courses in the OC. Additionally, they allow you to have dogs on the course! I have brought my dog here 3 times and they've always been super friendly to us. The kitchen opens at 6:30am for those who like early tee times. Make sure to grab a bite before you tee off! They also deliver orders on the course which is a major plus. Overall, the quality of the course, the services offered, and the pet-friendly option makes this course a 5/5! I will be returning for sure! (...provided I improve my swings lol) read more

Just played this course today. Very nice practice course. Price is kinda low. $20 for 18. i think the cart was $10 , maybe $7. I think they should raise the green fees and cart fees so they can replace their aging carts. I had to get a push on the hill for #18 and the cart couldn't finish the hole. All in all though, I had a good time. You can order food and beverages anywhere on the course and they bring it out to you. There's a menu on hole #9? I didn't take advantage of it but clearly a nice offer. I live in Sacramento and there's only a couple that have this option. I was kind of put off by the pro shop guy. Didn't get his name. When I brought up the cart issue of brakes not working and not having enough juice to run the course, he barely acknowledged it. I had to say it 3xs before he said, yeah, they're getting old. meh! read more

If you bring your pet here be careful for what they eat of the ground. My dog ate something and started to vomit and was having problems standing up on their own. We took her to the ER and it turns out she got poisoned and ate someone's weed. Golfing wise it's a fun course but I wouldn't bring my pet here. read more

Great little hole in the wall place that's cheap to play and also a bit of a challenge to play. It's an executive type course so it's short and tight. If you don't hit your ball straight it may be difficult and frustrating on some holes. It's super cheap to play, but you also get what you pay for. It's not the nicest and could use more or better maintenance, but that cost money which increases the price to play so all in all, it's a great place to play for the price. Just like anything else in life, a lot of experiences are based off perception. if you go here knowing what you're going to get, your perception will be right on par (sorry for the golf punn, was not planning that). Great place for beginners or just for a place to work on your short game improvement. Grass and greens are not the greatest, but again for the price it's a decent place to play. I come here a couple times a month and will most likely continue to do so as there is always room for improvement in your golf game and places like this are the best to do that. **So I posted this and then read a couple other reviews and felt I needed to update this a bit.** Others have mentioned about it being slow and backing up which I have seen and experienced here. Again this brings me back to my earlier statement on perception. This course is super cheap to play at which attracts?????....Ding, ding, ding, beginner player's who are not willing to pay big bucks for a round of golf where they are going to do horrible and get treated like crap by other groups. If beginner players who don't hit well and will likely slow you down bother you, do yourself a favor and pony up the $$ and go to a more expensive course to play. Just like anywhere else, if you find yourself getting held up by a player or group, find a hole where you can play ahead of them. Most people are pretty cool and will work with you. read more

There are pros and cons to this little Par 3 executive, but the cons outweigh the pros. +Nice staff +Nice little clubhouse. They probably have nice food, but we didn't try since we played during COVID lockdown. +Greens were smooth and soft (perhaps a bit too slow and water logged, but that's better than the alternative of having dried out greens). -Play is VERY SLOW. The people who play here, and I mean many groups I saw, were awful, awful hackers. They hit multiple balls in the water and trees, hit unlimited mulligans, and spend an eternity looking for their ball. Its OK if you're a noob golfer... but for heavens sake, if you hit one in the water, drop on the other side and take a +1 penalty... don't hit an additional 3 in the water while groups behind you wait. -No one is on the course or at the first tee to make sure people tee off on time. It was a confusing mess at the first tee. Of course there's no roaming staff to keep pace. Even groups of 5 were playing on the course. There are probably people who walk on without paying. It would be nice if the staff cared about this kind of thing. - Its VERY EASY to get struck by a ball. The tees and greens are jammed close together. Even walking to the first tee or practicing on the green, you'll have people hitting right at you as they try to hit the 18th green. We walked off after taking 1.5 hours to play 4 holes. It wasn't worth it to stay. There are much better run executive courses around SD county. I'd recommend Oaks North or the Welk Resort. Even the 9-hole side course at Balboa Park. read more

Awesome golf corse!! Me and my wife came down from LA for the day and stopped to play a round. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We called before we came down to book a tee time, and Henry helped us over the phone. He was great, answered all my questions and assured us we'd have a great time. He was 100% correct. I booked a tee time on a Saturday late afternoon. They said they're wide open after 4p on the weekends. They have a pro shop with lots of options and a small cafe with burritos and burgers plus beers . The tee boxes and greens were in good shape. I lost a lot of balls on hole 3 and I hole it was 15. It wasn't my day, but it wasn't the courses fault. This will be my north county executive course spot from now on. read more

I have been playing this course for a few years. Accuracy is a must as fairways are narrow. Greens are very challenging and good for keeping your putting on target. The driving range and putting green are excellent for that extra practice. Evening events are fun and local talent is featured.
