I'm a new golf girl, and I enjoy going to Oceanside Golf Course because it has all the space and services I need to be better at golf. They have a grass range - which gives a more authentic feeling of what the course would be like versus the mat. They keep the grass cut well and the area is very clean. As far as service, I have no complaints - everyone there is very nice and responsive to my questions. I enjoy visiting the pro shop and restaurant too. I've had a absolutely horrible time at this establishment, this was my first time golfing and I was learning on how to play and I was trying my best not only were we confronted by "regulars" rushing us. They will throw you out. Not a place to start playing golf. There was an old worker that confronted us cause one of there buddy's from behind us that were rushing us and being rude. At some point in the 80s, this place got stuck and no one has pulled it out. Extremely dated golf shop and grill. The course conditions are about a 3 out of 10. Staff is only slightly better. Hell, there is a tip jar at check in. I've never seen that at a check-in for a golf course. That's like tipping the cashier at a theater for giving me the ticket. Absurd. Getting better as of late but those tee boxes are at a 45-degree angle. Be nice if they would let all the dirt and bad areas go back to their natural habitat like when it was designed. It would look and play 1000 times better and take far less maintenance. read more

Not sure who was working today in the pro shop, didn't say his name, but his customer service was 0 out of 5 stars. I called to book a tee time over the phone, nothing crazy, and his immediate response with an annoyed tone was "book it online" and hung up. I've played here numerous times and was part of the Saturday league, normally the guys in the pro shop are super chill but not this guy. Nevertheless, the course is generally in decent condition, pro shop/bar area is ok. Good rates nowadays compared to other courses. To the guy who answered the phone, if you're reading this, please remember you work at a golf course and in the pro shop. I took my teen son golfing here during a vacation. We weren't planning on golfing on our trip, so we didn't bring our clubs, but the day was beautiful, so we decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, it was a day after a big rain, so the water hazards grew in size ten-fold and there were spongy and muddy spots all over the fairways. This was a day where hitting it in the fairway was crucial, or balls would be lost in the casual water. The positives: friendly staff, exceptionally receptive and fast greens, low green fees for juniors, nice driving range, full-length course was long and challenging from the tips where shot placement was crucial given many doglegs The not-so-goods: -The course has only one rental set for us lefties, and it wasn't good (found out later the rentals are donations). For $20, both the irons and the woods had mixed brands of clubs, with combinations of steel and graphite and very slippery grips. The putter was something you might see on a cruise ship putting course. My son's set had clubs with super fat grips that he had trouble controlling. I think that if that course managers went to a garage sale and bought a couple of more uniform and modern sets for $50 or so, that would go a long way to improving the experience for visitors. - The cost for pull carts was $7, so we just carried. - I will give a pass on the conditions considering the prior rains. Going into the round, I wasn't expecting to score well with this mix of clubs and conditions, but rather enjoy the sunny weather coming from a place where we've had snow on the ground for 9 months of the year. That said, I hit the ball pretty straight and still shot in the low-mid 80's from the tips, with no lost balls (can't say the same for the kid). We will probably play this again if we bring our own clubs, because that would bring the price point down. read more

This is without question the worst golf course I have ever had the unfortunate opportunity to play. They don't have grass fairways, they have gravel. When I got to the first hole, I hit my 2nd shot over the green. Before I could find my ball to chip on, a worker pulled a large blue hose up on the green to apparently start watering it. I never got a chance to putt because the worker was oblivious to what he had done. It went downhill from there as the fairways were almost not existent as I stated early. If it wasn't gravel it was wood chips or dead/dying grass. Disgraceful. I wouldn't even give it one star if this app would allow you to post without one. read more

I was there waiting to tee off when i heard a man yelling at one of the golfers for not checking in fifteen minutes prior to his tee time. The man kept yelling that he was the general manager and that he would refund the person's money if he didnt comply. The "General Manager" was very rude, disrespectful and very UNPROFESSIONAL to the golfer. If he treated patrons the way, i feel sorry for the staff. Amazing fun track. Great greens that roll true and are typically fast. Only 2 holes have houses, and one is a par 3. Hot dogs are epic. Cart girls are alway out. They did a great job w the water drought issue in CA as they put gravel or wood chips in spots that don't need grass. If you completely miss the fairway you may end up in it, but just stay in or close to the fairway eh? Very challenging. Dog legs and trees. Pregamed it here before my best friends bachelor party with a group of 13. Bartender makes a damn good Bloody Mary. Decent price to play, we split up into 4 groups to play the 18 holes and finished in about 4-5 hours. Nothing too special about the range, putting area was nice. As for the 18, greens were in good condition, a few fairways had dirt areas so you gotta make sure to get a good tee off to clear it. Golf carts had a USB outlet so you're able to charge your phone if you'd like. I played like crap (got too wasted) but it was still the funnest round I've played because of the great vibes playing with all the boys. read more

We have played here three times since moving, and it seems to be a great course to walk. The fairways are in great shape (so green from all the rain), and the greens are well-maintained. Place is OK, good golfing and nice people. Has a big enough driving range to accommodate everyone. The Oceanside Municipal Golf Course is a very tight, tree-lined layout. Streams and marshes come into play on 14 holes. Nothing to brag about, but come here to play at least once a year. read more

One of The best golf experiences I've had in So Cal. I locked my keys in my car and they pushed back my tee time to allow my friends and I to still get the full 18 hole experience. First off I need to say this: these pictures of people claiming that dirt ground is fairway, is not true. That is DG (or dirt ground) inbetween the fairway and tee boxes. If you don't hit a decent shot off the tee, then yes you may be shooting your next shot from the DG. So hit your drives well! I personally had no issues at all keeping my shots away from the DG. For the money, this course was in excellent condition. $40 on a Sunday for a course like this is a total steal. I played on a Monday and it was $33 plus $25 I believe for the cart. For me, it was well worth it. I'm from Temecula and decided to try this place out due to it being 20 degrees cooler in Oceanside than where I was from. The greens were green, the fairways were green, and overall for the money this course was absolutely amazing. For a golfer like myself, this is a 5 star rating, solely because of the low price. Major bang for your buck in my opinion. However if you're a bit newer to golf, you may not be able to always get past the DG on the shots from the tee box, and you may not agree with my 5 star rating, and that's fine. I was actually stuck between a 4 star and 5 star because of the $25 cart fee. That is pretty high for me. But at the end of the day, I think it was well worth it. It cost about half the price that a course like Temecula creek does, which is also a nice course. But twice as nice? I wouldn't say so. This is the perfect inexpensive course to come to on what would normally be a hot day further East. You get the ocean breeze out here which is a massive plus for me when it's hot out. So 5 stars from me. And I will be recommending this course to everyone else. read more

OK, so there is DG (dirt) in several places between holes and off the fairway/rough, that is difficult to play off of, so you're rewarded for avoiding the DG! Greens are always GREAT, usually very fast, always true! Interesting holes, some challenging approach shots over water hazards. Great views from the course, especially the top of the hill on #12. The best value for Golf in San Diego area, I"m a senior non-Oceanside resident, and play for $29 on weekdays! ALSO, the BEST hot dogs on a golf course in San Diego, nice grill marks, and a bargain at $4.50! I played here the first time 3 years ago during an "away" tournament for Torrey Pines Men's Club, and it's been one of my "go to" courses ever since, probably played 20 times each year! read more

Well..been playing Oside for a couple of years. Part of the Saturday Club..great group if you haven't joined. The course is in great shape, greens are true and the fairways...well, hit a good shot and you won't be disappointed. Remember if you stay center, nothing is better. I won't call Oside a second choice, always my go to on Friday's; Saturday and Sunday's. MAGA off Duty Marshall On 2/7/2019, the Staff in the office gave me a key to the cart within minutes and they arranged for me to played golf with 3 other singles (Kate, Pete, & Henricke). The course had retained water from all the rain recently but the fairways seemed to be fine? On the first Tee, at 12:30pm, the men stated that we received no special instructions about driving on the course; Kate did say, she was told that it was cart path only! It was at this point that I & the men rationalized that someone should have informed US! On the second hole, I drove out into the fairway after a beautiful drive & the course was solid & it appeared that the sandy top had absorbed the rain. Then on the 3rd hole par nobody drove out there...the 4th hole we drove out there with no problem making sure that we weren't slipping & sliding! On the 4th hole is where I found a brown leather cover for a golf club, so I picked it up with plans of turning it in to the club house or the person in from of US. Then on the 6th hole the men are driving on the fairway waiting to hit our balls, when this man yelling at US, " did anyone find a cover?" I yelled back, jokingly, I have one for 5.00 dollars, the man offered no smile or thank you, instead he raised his voice very loud, pointing his finger, saying "it's cart path ONLY ALL DAY" I apologized and said, I was unaware...the Marshall vehemently said, there's signs in the office... Pete & Henricke also apologized, stating that nobody told US...NOTE: Kate was on the cart path...the man that claimed he was a Marshall walked out to my cart in the fairway as I was returning in his cover and I handed it to him. That man would not look in my eyes & he offered no thank you's...So much for being a good guy. This small older gray hair man then YELLED, declaring that he Works at the golf course, so stay off the fairways & if I didn't he would send someone out here and they would TAKE THE CART KEY FROM ME OR US... I drove over to the cart path and asked him, "why was he threatening (meaning us), but really it felt more like he was threatening me (the Black man), bc as he sat in his cart he explained by YELLING "IM NOT THREATENING YOU, IM JUST TELLING YOU SO U KNOW" I could hear, Kate, Pete, & Henricke saying, "that's threatening" it was stated again that we did not know! The man then looked at Kate, who was on the cart path & said, "well I know I TOLD HER! So he yelled at Kate, who drove down the Orange County & she had done nothing wrong? Kate in fact said, I'm on the cart path! And she's not responsible for us. I decided to avoid any further discussion with this person that could be described as a (well you know)...I could not get over how rude this Marshall was & no one in the group said that we would not comply! NOTE: I'm no stranger to crazy white men, but I did realize that if I had respond to this man by confronting him, I would ruined the round for Henricke from Amsterdam, or Kate from Orange County, and Pete, not sure where he's from but they were good Folks. I especially do not want to be responsible for fighting with a loud mouth rude Marshall besides if I hurt him I would not finish my round, & my freedom might come into question. All of this could have been avoided...& was... On a happy note: I noticed that my group knew that the off duty Marshall directed his hatred mainly towards me, the Black Guy, but they made sure I did not hold my head down or raged with anger, in fact Kate & the fellas all made sure to putt out on the last hole as we said our cheerful goodbyes! Still can't believe that Marshall saying, I'll send someone to take the cart key! I really did wonder how that would have played out...jail perhaps...Not necessary! This is definitely my favorite golf course in Oceanside. The prices for the tee times are fair, especially for twilight golf. The course is always clean and well maintained. The layout is moderately challenging, great for most skill levels. The 19th hole has a good selection of drinks and food, however it closes early. The pro-shop has all the golf essentials with a good variety. One of my favorite features at this location is the driving range, not for its esthetics, but for the simple fact that they have real grass to practice on, instead of turf mats. Heard they had done a lot of work to this course over the last 12 months and was convinced it was worth trying out. Booked a threesome for Sunday 8 a.m. through GolfNow for $48 a person, which came with a cart and range balls. The driving range mats are a little worn, but the practice putting green was great. The course was fairly empty for an early Sunday morning. Our tee time was for 8 a.m. but they told us the course was open and we were free to tee off whenever we were ready. It was definitely a change of pace to have no group ahead or behind of you, which made for a fun round for me and my buddies. We played the round in 4 hours. Overall, the course is great for a municipal course. The tee boxes and fairways were in good condition, but the greens were surprisingly immaculate. Actually, the greens were on the same level as Grand Del Mar, which is a $250 round for non members course. The rough wasn't luscious, thick grass, but more of spotty unkempt grass. For us +18 handicappers out there, the course was fun because it wasn't too challenging. Having played some of the tougher courses in the county the last few weeks, it was a welcomed break to play a course where all you have to do is make straight forward shots to shoot a good round. There were only, I'd say, 2 holes where you scratched your head wondering what the course designer was thinking. And as I already mentioned, the greens were awesome. Overall, a good place for a round if you're wanting to venture away from your home courses. This course is what you'd get if you mixed Chula Vista municipal with Twin Oaks.
