Dry as a bone, hardly any grass in the fairways and the greens are marginal at best. Bumpy and slow.

Played today. The course is cooked. They say their irrigation system is under repair. Overall the course is in very bad condition, except the greens. Fairways are baked dirt and the tee boxes are barren. There wasn't any notification when I made the reservation else I wouldn't have scheduled a tee time. It will be a long while to get this into playable condition, it needs more than just water. The grass is dead. Even the palm trees look stressed. Disappointing to drive an hour for this. read more

The new rates are way too high for this course. It also should be there for all ranks of the military but with the prices i doubt many can enjoy it except senior enlisted, officers, and ofcourse the civilians who are now allowed to use it. This so called great military golf course went the same direction as MCX/MCCS and many other contractors to rip us off and then call it "serving the troops". this review is not about the golf course, but about access for civilians to play the course! I first moved Oceanside I got civilian access to Play Golf her, love the course and people that worked at the course. My civilian pass expired, and they closed the visitor trailer at the main gate which is the only place you can get a recreation pass. it has been close now for at least 10 months, so anybody who's pass is expired can no longer play this golf course I figure by now they have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in green fees by not having someway civilians can get access, without entering the base with military personnel. please figure it out so we can continue to play this course. read more

The staff has to be the worst, with the exception the the lady working the snack stand. From the pro shop to some creep who was stalking me watching me golf like it was my first time playing a Country Club course, which this course is not. I plan to go back and see if this was a one off, but assuming it's not. You would think the drop in business they have experienced they would treat you like want you to come back. Attractive enough course however the staff courtesy as well as the cart rules for this course made the overall experience less than ideal. From the moment we checked in for our tee time the staff was snippy, acted like we were interrupting their day, and did not fully explain the course rules, even after we stated that it was our first time to the course. We were not told of the most important rule, that the course is a cart path FOR THE ENTIRE COURSE. Suffice it to say, our cart stalled out because we left the cart path. Once we learned this we were able to proceed with our game but it definitely put a damper on the whole thing. (What's the point of paying for a cart if you're walking 95 percent of the course anyway) Throughout our time at the course we encountered different staff members and each had the same flippant attitude. The staff truly has the ability to make or break your experience and they ruined ours. We left as soon as our game was over because we felt less than welcome. read more

First time playing this course last weekend. My tee time was late morning. Let's start with what is good - pace of play was really good and the layout was really nice. Great grass driving range, but be aware there's a sign that says the range is for irons only. My pet peeve was that the green speed varied from hole to hole. Although the greens were nice to the sight - Numerous holes felt like they were not rolled because the balls bounced around to much on its way to the cup. I'm a pretty descent golfer with a single digit handicap, but I had the most 3Putts I've ever experienced in a round of golf, ever. read more

This is a very nice course, but they have completely lost track of the fact that exist to serve the military community. That is why it was built. It used to be terrific benefit. Once they opened it up to the public, everything changed. It is now often crowded and the prices are ridiculous. No one charges $18 for a golf cart. NO ONE! I don't see how this is a benefit for our military community. Next, someone will want to open everything on the base to the public and raise the prices until they are equal to or higher than those services off base. I can play golf at a half dozen local courses for less that the base. So much for my retirement benefits. read more

I loved loved LOVED playing this well manicured golf course for the very 1st time this past Saturday! Our tee time was at 12:45pm and we finished about 5.45pm trailing a party of 4 that pretty much took their sweet time that the party behind us surpassed us and them on the 13 Hole then came back to do the holes we held them up at. I loved how each hole was dedicated to a battle they would memorialize and pay tribute to so it was like doing the stations of the cross, if you're Catholic, you know what I'm talking about. We'd get to the hole and read the hanging plaque honoring the hole so we would remember it and think about its significance. What a novel idea! The course is pretty efficiently plotted which I liked! U just keep going straight with a couple of holes varying with cliffs you would tee off of. I loved those especially I think Hole 4 and Hole 12. Every 4th Hole or so they would have a watering Station with a cooler full of iced water you could refill your water bottle or hydro flask with. They had rags attached to a pole with the ball cleaners at each hole. There is a snack bar near the driving and putting range to purchase drinks and snacks. The restrooms along the course were clean and modernly upgraded. There are lots and lots of squirrels which run rampant at each hole. They like to dig holes so I lost my pink ball to one of their holes at Hole 12... either that or they just took my pink ball and stored it like a nut. I saw a fox running loose around Hole 2 and 3 so be careful. We were warned of coyotes. This is a beautiful course but you do need a military ID or sponsor in able to enjoy it! I really wish I lived closer as the service and Course is in great shape. We even had a dead battery and the bar tender offered her jumper cables for assistance. The drive from Downtown San Diego is about an hour but we will be back soon. read more

Played this course on 1/20/18 after having several friends tell me about it. Great value at $50. Course was pretty well maintained overall, better than any course I've played under this value. Greens were hard, not many divots at all and they were challenging to gauge, as they seemed to change hole to hole. THE WIND was crazy all day. 11-4pm it was ripping through which we heard was normal. Pace of play was great, we finished in 5 hours with very little wait time. Our "lag" came from the twosome we were paired with. A couple things to keep in mind when playing: 1. Fill out the base access form from their website. Apparently they let you in the first time, but after that you must have undergone background check. And they scan your id at gate. 2. Get directions from their website, not google or Apple maps. We were sent the long way and into the wrong gate, which led to 12 miles of driving inside the base at reduced speeds instead of the other gate which was only a few miles from course. 3. Bring a windbreaker, it gets chilly! read more

I removed my original review since the manager contacted me and explained what happened. I'm not satisfied with response since it was a typical restaurant response about their service. Its a wedding and can't get that moment back. My main problem is they allowed someone new to work my wedding and it caused some issues. I would be on time for ceremony if I didn't have to spend time yelling and cussing at coordinator. I apologized later because thats not how I'm suppose to handle situation and I felt bad about it. Apart of me think that she deserved the wrath I gave her. During planning they weren't responsive to calls and emails until the month of wedding. What happened was I was told the list wasn't at the gate the guests were suppose to arrive at. My parents had military ID and had to get some guests including my husband at the gate. Of course I was told they are not responsible for what happened and they did what they suppose to. After yelling at coordinator and I'm sure my parents had some words to say to her, THE LIST MAGICALLY APPEARED. There was issues with the food and my guests should have spoke up during event for them to fix it. I talked to some vendors( I used one of them on base) told me that the golf course if difficult. I hope my compliant is a training opportunity for them. I don't recommend them for weddings. I suggest you take your money somewhere else or you will have some unwanted drama. I'm a nice person and they turned me into a bridezilla. My wedding was still beautiful and had a good time. One day I'll let go of my bad experience. read more

The last time I played here was 20 years ago. The course has aged better than I have! It was in great shape given the current drought hitting Southern California. It is not too long and is somewhat forgiving. Pace of play on a Thursday morning was pretty good at 3 and 1/2 hours. I'll definitely be back. read more

$18 to ride per golfer is ridiculous. They bunch everyone up and if you have a group of hackers in front of you, your round becomes 5+ hours, waiting around at each hole, and the group in back of you hitting on you. Not fun at all. read more

I've played this course quite a lot in the last two or three years. I think they have come a long way making it a first class facility. The greens are coming back very nice after punching and there is always evidence of course improvements. Played this morning at 0 dark 30 (7am) and was finished by 10 am and then to Mulligan's Grill for breakfast. For the price you can't beat the course or the grill. Awesome morning. Great course at a low price! Tee boxes, fairways, and greens in great shape with a steady pace of play. No water hazards on this course, but the bunkers make up for it. Slightly challenging, but definitely worth a visit. Weekends are typically busy, so call ahead for a tee time. Hard to believe this course is open to the public with the pricing and ability to play. Weekend play makes for about a four hour round, with a quick stop at the turn (order from #8). Great for walkers too. read more

Totally awesome course, with a staff that makes everything even more perfect. With customer service being such a "commodity " in our world, it is rare to find people that truly seem to care about and want to make your experience one that you would like to have again. I really liked the option of having a tee box (green) that was just forward of the reds. Made the course really doable even if you are getting out for the first time after an absence or you just don't hit it as long yet. Can't wait to come back and play again! read more

This is a fun course for a great price. It runs up and down a small canyon. It is generally flat but it is designed in a fun and challenging way. There arensome.dog-legs but not too.many like the Oceanside municipal course. I would definitely come back and golf it again. read more

I really like this course. I'm a permanently intermediate golfer, and this course is plenty challenging, with higher slope and rating from the red tees than Encinitas Ranch or Crossings at Carlsbad. There are five sets of tees. There aren't that many places you can lose a ball, but it's long, has some hillsides, one blind shot, a couple of "layered" greens. The pro shop is well stocked, the food at the cafe (burgers, nothing fancy) is good and inexpensive. They also have a nice driving range where you can hit off the turf (distances are well marked with numerous flags) and a putting green. Just make sure that friends who go to play with you also bring their drivers' licenses to get in the gate. Staff is terrific. read more

golf course is in good shape, nice layout, except the wet spots, must be from irrigation pipe leaks, on almost every hole, worst on the back nine. no marshals and we had three slow threesomes ahead of us. nice to have the par 3 nine holes, driving range, pro shop, snack bar, bar is nice except closed all the time. really hard to get on the base nowdays if you don't have a military id, but it can be done. staff is very good, except some guy named Ryan- what a jerk, rude to customers, never smiles, you can tell even his co-workers don't like him; the main reason i won't go back read more
