After being a loyal JC member for several year things soured very quickly with the COVID experience at Encinitas Ranch. I took my 8 year old avid golfing son for years, but the staff turned nasty after COVID. Every single time attempting to charge us $50 for super twilight 8 year old golf when the JC Junior rate says $15. The starters are overaggressive and nasty. Hackers hitting balls two fairways over without yelling. 'Players' sitting down on the greens while their buddie fishes out pond ball duck hooks. Horrid slow pace of play. What a miserable checkin process in the proshop as well. No one replaces/fixes divots. Very disappointed as this is two minutes from my house and my son really enjoyed it. read more

This is a review of the JC PLAYERS card program and not the course. I have been a JC Players card member for over 22 years and I have bought multiple booklets at around $400 each. I estimate I have spent over $13000 on their purchases. Recently, I have noticed a disturbing trend. The number of benefits, such as range balls, guest fees, is being reduced every year while the price is going up faster than the inflation. I understand that GOLF is very popular and I'm OK paying a bit more for the benefits. However, my most recent purchase, which is the second card I have purchased in the last 8 months only has five range balls included where it used to be 20. Moreover, I was informed that I would not get the five free range balls until 11 months after the purchase of my first booklet. This must be the only business in the world where a frequent buyer is punished rather than rewarded. I simply don't understand this ridiculous policy and believe it is going to detract from the popularity of the card. golf is popular now but it won't stay that way forever so keep your loyal customers and treat them accordingly. I have never been rewarded for my 22 year loyalty and now I am being punished for more frequent purchases. Simply amazing. read more

A friend and I were visiting San Diego for the week and decided to take a half-day golf lesson at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. We had a 2-hour lesson with Jeff Simon in their deseginated area for their golf school separate from the public driving range. Jeff Simon is an excellent instructor and very personable guy. He's super friendly and did a great job of splitting up the lesson for both my friend and I. I would highly recommend Jeff Simon at the JC Golf Schools located at Encinitas Ranch. The lesson included lunch at their grill and a tee time at 2:15pm. Great deal! We will be back for another lesson and play the beautful course. Thank you Jeff! read more

Been playing here since it opened, and I like it, overall. Fun layout, very good services, food and drink, maybe a bit high on the green fees. I understand the comments about the authoritative marshals, had seen it, didn't love it, but sometimes a necessary figure. Perhaps a bit of training for the marshals would have been helpful. We could have used one last week, and in fact called the pro shop telling them we were behind two holes because of slow play by the group in front of us. No marshal ever showed, as promised, and our round took just ove FIVE hours to play . . . On a Monday afternoon no less. I wanted to write to someone at the course to discuss, however I could not find any link on the web site that offered communication with anyone there to voice my concerns, hence this review. My husband and I played on a Saturday afternoon/twilight. The course is very nice and open. It's hard pretty much impossible to lose your ball, which I appreciate and the course is kept in good condition. In addition the views of the ocean are breath taking. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because the woman we checked in with was pretty rude. My husband and I are 20/30 members and she did not charge us for the correct rates. Therefore she charged me $140 and when I asked for clarification regarding the rates, she gave me a refund and charged me for the correct rate but gave no apology. (Even after the fact that she saw that it was noted in her system under my tee time reservation.) Maybe she was having a bad day but nonetheless I did not appreciate her attitude. read more

Played here on a Saturday. Let's start with a positive. Everyone was wearing masks. They are very into cleanliness and definitely make everyone adhere to protocol, inside the pro shop. Staff was robotic and emotionless but they got us checked in. Ok, now let's talk about getting onto the course. I have friends in town enjoying a little get away and this used to be my go to course. That will definitely change after my experience. The starter, to the Marshall to the blonde gal on the beverage cart, nobody was happy. All combative, harassing, and rude. We tried to keep on pace and were spoken to even though there were people in front of us and we waited on every hole. They apparently allow yahoo's to bring in cases and coolers of beers, to get as wrecked as they want. We crossed paths with guys that were hardly able to keep it together. The Marshall didn't say anything to them when we mentioned their state of intoxication. This definitely slows pace and seems irresponsible. The woman on the beverage cart basically told us we didn't have an option but to buy from her and not to stop at the turn, they get enough business.I would have rather dealt with a used car salesman than her. It seems all the people we came in contact with need retraining or a new job. Very uncomfortable. Good luck getting a tee time. We had a later tee time as it's almost impossible to get on on this course, even as a resident. I was told I need to book at midnight to have a fighting chance at a descent time. Are you kidding me? Why wouldn't you offer available tee times at 6am instead of midnight when most people are sleeping?! What has happened to the Integrity of this facility. Current management has completely let this place go in the gutter. I will bring my friends to The Crossings or any other North County course before I come back here. read more

Ever since I joined the JC Club membership, Encinitas Ranch has been my go-to favorite course to play. The course is above average as far as condition. The fairways are wide and if not, the faded shot is somewhat playable still. Greens are fast for the most part but easy to adapt. The staff are all friendly and the course continues to be a challenge everytime. Shot my best round here so ofcourse it's going to be my favorite course in San Diego. The only con I can think of is that there seems always be a few fairways under repair. But no big deal. Green fees are on the high side but joining the JC Club makes it a steal! read more

This used to be the jewel of Encinitas and NOW is the time to turn this place into a park for families and not the Encinitas elite. Greenfee's, nasty tenured staff, no improvements to the course in so long. Why does Encinitas still put up with this? Marshall is the biggest incompetent a$$hole I've ever seen on a golf course. Group in front of us was playing at a moderate pace but we were right on them the whole time. At the turn We stopped to use the restroom, no food no drinks purely in and out and he was on ya about picking up pace. We had a couple newer golfers and a couple experienced but we were moving quickly the entire time and all morning he was on us as well as the group behind us. I haven't played on the course (yet!), but I have taken classes here. I wasn't even particularly interested in golf, but saw an amazing deal they were offering (and I think they still are). It was only $50 for 5 lessons, 3 buckets of balls for practice, and 2 rounds of golf (but in later hours in the day). I couldn't pass it up. The classes were small, instructive, and perfect for beginners. I've gone to 4 lessons so far. 3 of the classes had no more than 5-6 students. The biggest class had maybe 10 people. They also provide clubs so I didn't have to buy anything before deciding whether I'd really enjoy it or not. I've used up my 3 buckets of balls coming to the range to practice with my husband. Overall, been having a great time. Highly recommended! read more

I wanted to take the time and recognize what phenomenal staff the clubhouse has! I was casually looking for golf shoes and had a question about the product. Within those few seconds of having that thought, Cheyenne came and greeted me and asked if I had any questions, which I did. She was extremely helpful and made me feel taken care of without being a pushy sales person! Her upbeat attitude and uplifting spirit really brightened my Friday! Came here for a 10am tee time with a group of friends visiting the area. My first experience there was with the lady at the front desk who was incredibly rude and snarky throughout the whole check in process. Every question was answered with attitude as if I was wasting her time and her communication skills were terrible. It was a bad first impression... Other than that, the course was well maintained and had just the right amount of difficulty for our group. I loved that the carts gave accurate yardage info. Can't say I would ever come back, $100 is fair for the green fee and cart but they need to work on the golfers experience from beginning to end. read more

It's been a long time since we have played here. I am a JC Card holder, and we can't ever get on this course because they allow locals advanced tee times over JC members. The only way to get on is to pay an additional $25 per player for advanced tee times. This used to be a very nice place but it's crap now. The driving range is terrible and the course itself is in very bad shape. Greens are pitted as are the fairways. The traps are hard pan, and they don't even spin them each morning as they should. The weekday round was $72 plus another $25 for advanced tee times. Place that with a nearly 5-hour round and it was a bad experience for all. The Marshall approached us on 17 and stated the Manager would hear us out and possibly return all our money if we quit right then and there. Who are these people. My suggestion is this place gets boycotted until they come back down to earth. RBI and the Crossings are so much better than this course. There are also many other great tracks. Won't be back to this place for a very long time. read more

Absolutely brutal experience. They try to price themselves as a premium course. Meanwhile it is WAYYYYY over booked. There is no marshal moving the pace of play along. For a 12:30 tee we were 37 MINUTES BEHIND PACE BY THE 14TH HOLE and did not get to finish. We skipped two holes to pass the people in front of us and then the cart girl came and told us we weren't allowed to do that and asked us to go back. Unreal how slow. read more

I have played at this course since I was a child, and it was my home course growing up. In the past, I loved the staff and thought that they were incredibly helpful. These last few times I went there, however, painted a different story. I have never been more disappointed with the quality of the staff, as they were rude and WAY overcharged me and my friend. Sorry, this review is coming a little late. I'm a long time golfer at jc resorts and on Sunday Dec 23rd I played golf at E.R. Golf course. Course was in good shape so this review is for the Older Lady working in the pro shop with the Santa hat On that day. Unfortunately she was the one who help check in my group. She was so Rude and full of attitude that I just looked at her and kept my mouth shut do to the fact Christmas was just 2 days away I didn't what to be rude back just because she was rude to us. I want the Older Lady in the pro shop to know that you are 'Not a Golf Pro' so you shouldn't be rude to your clients. Basically Santa Hat lady you a glorified cashier so get over yourself!! I really hope management reads this and it brings up a great coaching moment for her so she can learn how to treat clients with a lot more respect. read more

Fun course but had a lot of issues with the service. The ranger kept telling us to hurry up for no reason when we were on pace for a 4 hour round. How come the ranger is nowhere to be found when it's slow but when you're on pace the guy has an attitude problem? Also Bev cart girl yelled at us for being parked in the middle of cart path on a par 5 and we were in her way? Way to inspire me to buy something from you. I hope I never play here again. Horrible customer service. Received a call prior to getting to my destination and was greeted like "are you coming"? Very unprofessional. I prebooked my tee time for 2 people and was told i must pair with someone. The website did not state that i would be paired with someone or i would have booked for 4 people. Then i reach my destination and some nerd comes out and tells me im not golfing there today. How does a JC club course allow such bad management. I shot over to the crossings about 20 mins down the road also a JC club and they showed true professionalism. And when i told them about encinitas ranch they just laughed like it wasnt the first time. So thanks to the crossings for saving a customer and thank encinitas ranch for never seeing my money again. I have been unable to book a tee time. I called the front desk to ask for advice on how to get a tee time. The man at the desk advised me to go on line at midnight when tee times are released. I pointed out that that time is arbitrary, and it would be better for more golfers to make it earlier, say noon or 6 pm. The response was what customers fear, "We are plenty busy, so why don't you go play somewhere else." How about, "I understand your concern, and will pass it on. There maybe some reason for the policy that I don't know about. I hope you can get a tee time the next time you try, we'd like you to enjoy our course. read more

An ego booster for sure! If you're golf game is in the toilet, go play Encinitas Ranch. I've played some of my best rounds here and it's not because i'm good, it's because the fairways are wide and has very few hazards which makes it nearly impossible to lose a ball. Don't get me wrong, I've lost plenty -- but you'll also find that you'll make up your extra strokes with a birdie here, a birdie there..you get the hint. Most of the holes are straight up and down - greens are boring on the front nine but FUN on the back with the elevation changes. I've played here countless times and I've have recently written off playing on the weekends. The pace of play is super slow so if you're able to get in a round during the week, do it! Otherwise, prepared to be held up a bit. A few years back, we had a family golf tournament here with 8 foursomes and the tournament director was very helpful the entire process. It was painless to organize but if I'm ever crazy enough to organize another family golf tournament, i'll be sure to book at Encinitas Ranch. Oh! If you plan to frequent this course or any other of the JC Players Clubs (Arrowood, Rancho Bernardo Inn, Reidy Creek, Temecula Creek Inn, Twin Oaks or Oaks North) regularly, you should look into purchasing this. I grew up as a junior playing at Encinitas Ranch pretty much every day during summer. The JC Junior Player's card was an absolutely incredible deal. $40 for a year long membership and you could walk any of the JC courses for $15. I really miss those days. If you know a junior who is looking to learn to golf, I highly recommend this program (I am not sure if it still exists). Regarding the course, it is pretty straightforward and easy. The rough is short, the fairways are wide open (the reason I never learned to hit the ball straight), and the greens are pretty flat. The course is generally in OK shape, but it seems like they are aerating the greens all the time (probably just seems that way, but who know). They do not mention this when you are making tee times, so be sure to ask if it is around aerating season if you care. All in all, this course was a great one to learn to golf on. The JC Golf program is a reasonable deal, and worth it if you plan on playing at any of the JC courses. read more

I have been going to this course forever always jc. Will not be going and will recommend others to not go. Things have changed since virus. They are taking advantage of the virus. racked up the price but the course is in horrible condition. Bunkers are filled with weeds some of the greens are half airated some gps in carts work others do not have gps. They need new manager new head pro. I was told that if someone is not playing you can ride as a spectator for a $20 cart fee which is a lot but I paid that fee on may 16th. I went back to the course today may 24th wanted to ride as a spectator and not play. they told me no cart riders spectators aloud unless you are playing. My entire group all drove together all the way there and I couldn't go out on the course even though I was told I could. nobody is on the same page and the head guy Jason needs to be replaced. he is not keeping things there on a good path. Everyone that answers the phone should have the same correct information and that is the problem and thats because of the head there Jason. Will not be going there and will let everybody else know not to go there until things change. I will be contacting cdc to see if they truly have the correct rules and if or not they are properly following them. thumbs down for this place read more

Not a bad track but is overpriced when you compare to The Crossings or Arrowood. I have a JC card and it is still more expensive than both these courses on the weekend! To be honest once my free rounds run out I will play elsewhere for the 78$ JC rate they charge. The fairways should be in much better shape for this price. Also, when punching greens they only punch half. By half I don't mean the front 9 vs the back 9. I mean hole #1 green is punched on the back half of the green, hole # 2 the front half of the green. I think this is a greedy way of getting out of having discounted rates while greens are punched. When your golf rate isn't cheap the golf course shouldn't practice cheap business tactics. read more

I am writing about my positive experience at The JC Golf Encinitas Ranch Clubhouse. We are local residents and have enjoyed countless happy hours and charity events at this beautiful venue. We recently had our faculty holiday party at the clubhouse and everything went off without a hitch thanks to Kim and her incredible staff. They were more than accommodating, organized, and friendly. Even though it was a chilly evening, guests enjoyed the heated patio by the warm fireplace as well as the inside facilities. In fact, it was such a huge hit, that we want to book it for our 2020 holiday party! It is truly a special spot and the staff makes this place feel like home!
