Our 5-year old really enjoys this camp. We signed him up for ski week and he had tons of fun during a very rainy week. Coach Brooks is amazing! We get funded through San Diego Regional Center and she was really great in accommodating our request and even offered an additional week of Spring Break camp because our school district had a different timeline than the other coastal schools. Coach Brooks and Coach Zora introduced our kid to lots of fun activities such as building forts, tide pooling, building and flying kites, hiking the slot at Annie's Canyon, and even encountering rattlesnakes. This was such a great outdoor activity for our kid in a safe and supportive environment. Being an only child, his exposure to interacting with multi-aged kids has been a tremendous experience. My son just attended two weeks of the tide pool camp and LOVED it!!! He was eager to go to camp everyday and came home with a big smile. I originally signed him up for one week and then added the second one because he had so much fun. He loved exploring the tide pools and playing in the ocean. My 4 year old daughter went for Memorial Day camp and loved it. She said it was her favorite camp ever (we've tried quite a few). Run by two young women, well organized, and so much fun for the kiddos - some of the favorites were holding beetles, face painting, and making tie dye shirts. We even got pictures and a recap over email which was a nice personal touch and gave us curious parents more insight into the day's activities. We will definitely be back this summer! read more

My daughter has gone to a couple different sessions of these camps and they have been some of her favorites. The leaders seem really engaged and knowledgeable about the outdoors. They all actually seem to have a big heart for being outside which I am grateful for because it gives that contagious love of nature to this next generation. The activities they chose are all really fun and many of them unique or adapted to fit the week's theme. For example they made fairy houses outside out of natural materials and the staff had to have gotten there early the next day to be sure the fairies left them notes. So sweet and means so much to the littles. Another week they did a fun Tide-pooling scavenger hunt and made these cool nature journals in a way that kids could easily reproduce themselves instead of just buying the journals prepaid. Lots of little touches like that have set this company apart for me. Also appreciated was the customer service and ability to take feedback that I experienced with this company, speaks to the integrity of the staff which is invaluable. Good leadership, staff that really care about kids as well as being stewards of nature. I'm excited to have found them and looking forward to more camps with them in the future. read more

My two boys (ages 7 and 4) spent one week of winter break with Brooks at Coastal Kiddos. They absolutely loved it, and my kids are tough critics! They preferred this over Poway science camp and Camp Cahito. They came home dirty and excited every day and were happy to go back the next day without any complaint. My 7 year old daughter loved this camp. There are multiple locations and we attended the one based at the Nature Center at Tecolote Canyon. The group was small (about 6 kids to 1 or 2 counselors) and the entire day was spent outdoors exploring and learning about the plants and animals around them. I can't recommend this summer camp highly enough! All the staff are kind, upbeat, well-educated in their field (our counselor Amy was a bio major with a masters in environmental education) and highly professional -- I had no worries about the safety of my child during the day while I had to work. I'm finally getting around to this review. My kids attended a summer camp at Coastal Kiddos this past summer and had a great experience. We were on the West Coast for several weeks and needed something for them while we worked. At first, I was concerned that the camp might be too unstructured as they are used to more structured (e.g., from 9-10 you do x, from 10-11, you do y, etc.) camps back east, but we trusted the process, and they absolutely loved it. They came home excited to tell us what they did, full of adventures and new friends, and they grew so much in confidence by the ocean in just the week's time. It was clear that they really benefitted from being at a place that really follows the kids' interests and sees where the day takes them. I'm so glad I found it and highly recommend. read more

My son hasn't been this excited about a summer camp ever! He has the pleasure of having Kiera as his nature guide counselor and I can't emphasize enough how amazing she is with the kiddos! She is kind, always smiling and laughing, patient, and a great listener (which can be difficult at when you're listening to young kids tell stories all day long, every day ;-) The other kids in my son's small group are sweet, too (as are the parents). It seems like the perfect little summertime community where all are welcome. Both Brooks (Founder and Head Teacher) and Kiera (Lead Counselor) are professional and experienced in helping kids learn whilst having fun at the same time. Our 6yo had a fantastic time in his "Interconnectedness of Food" camp! He learned a ton about where food comes from, hiked, played games, and was happily tired after every day of spending time outdoors. Camp groups were small and manageable (6:1 student:counselor ratio). One of the best parts of this camp was getting an email at the end of the week, describing daily activities.
