Today was a putter fitting. I have a LOT of left handed putters. Over 10... I've been playing golf over 65 years. Scott turned my thinking around on putters weighting. Scott shortened, and weighted my Scotty Cameron Newport, and I like it more then I did prior. Likewise we now have a plan to change the weighting, gripping, and length on my putters. Well worth the cost of the putter fitting. Scott is fantastic to work with. Scott has also done excellent work on my driver grips, and the ball is going straight, and long. ADS Golf fitted me several years ago for my driver, irons and hybrids. The studio fitting was excellent with state of the art tracking and name brand golf balls used for the fitting. In other words, no driving range balls that do not accurately represent spin and ball flight. After playing my fitted clubs for three years, I decided to replace one of my hybrids with a 3 iron due to my success with the fitted 4 iron. Scott Cho was terrific in putting together the 3 iron so it would be fully representative of the irons I previously purchased from Scott and Gene. Scott also regripped all my clubs and spotted a repair that needed to be made on one of my wedges. Scott did a fantastic job fitting me for irons. I came in looking to mitigate my big left miss, and after trying many different shafts (weight, flex, ei profile), my big left miss remained due to a swing flaw. He recommended that I continue working on my swing and that my current irons are a good enough fit for me at that time. I was very appreciative that Scott didn't try to sell me on getting new irons/shafts when that would not fix the problem I was looking to solve. Following this initial fitting, I took some lessons at Swingworx Golf, and my swing flaw was remedied. I returned to Scott for another fitting, and the results were fantastic. Dispersion on my 6 iron went down considerably with the new irons. Scott will go through different heads/shafts at different swing weights to get you dialed in. Scott's target is to get the golfer to make center face contact at least 80% of the time, and in my case, this was achieved with a very specific head weight, shaft profile, and swing weight. Once this contact rate is met, Scott goes over the various metrics (ball speed, spin rate, launch angle, etc) Trackman provides to make sure you're in the appropriate window so you can hold greens. If you're looking to get fit for new clubs, I highly recommend to come to ADS Golf and Scott. I got back into golf a couple years ago and decided it was time to get a little more serious. A friend turned me onto ADS and it's been the "awakening" that I've needed. Gene and company have taught me some valuable things about my swing and factor clubs that I was using. The Trackman is a pretty awesome tool but it's worthless unless you have someone who can analyze the data and make solid decisions regarding the right clubs for you. I was fitted for a new driver and my cluster of shots with this particular configuration was pretty amazing. Gene is a true master of his craft. He is the Yoda of club fitting. He has a way of keeping it simple and keeping your brain out of the process. My fitting experience involved hitting a lot of balls trying to find the right shaft weight/club head combo that produced the most consistent/desirable results. He focuses on results and not body measurements - which is what it all comes down to on the course. We ended up determining I need shafts almost twice the weight of my current set. Hitting the ball felt good again! I had a lot of questions and he patiently answered them all. His pricing was very fair and he did't charge me for a lot of our post-fitting Q&A time. He is very responsive over email and is answering a lot of my post fitting follow-up questions to help me along on my journey toward a perfect iron set. You have NEVER had a real golf fitting unless you have gone to ADS. The difference between a regular fitting and ADS is no less than the difference between an Oscar Meyer hotdog and a Kobe beef filet mignon. First off, Gene knows his stuff better than anyone I've ever encountered. This includes places like hotstix and coolclubs. He doesn't just blindly accept the trackman numbers. He knows what they mean and the errors that the trackman makes. ADS doesn't just look at loft, lie, and shaft options. They look at adding weight to different parts of the club to provide each individual with the perfect feel for them. The results are pretty shocking. Gene is also very patient and great to work with. Just like all the other reviews here Gene provides a FIVE STAR service for a cost that is quite comparable to "off the rack" clubs. I went to Gene to get fitted for a hybrid club because mine just wasn't cutting it. I was extremely inconsistent with the club and most of my misses were HARD hooks. With my game, I was looking for a club I could hit around 200 - 220 yards. After only a few swings using the track man, and some measuring of my old club Gene told me that the club I was playing, which was purchased off the rack, was several degrees closed (which was causing the aforementioned hook) and much to light for my swing speed. The rest of the session was spent testing different club heads, club shafts, and shaft weights. The way I was hitting the demo club he made for me I knew I couldn't just walk away with only ONE club. I so got both a 3 and 4 hybrid from Gene. The end result was a heavier shafted club with a neutral club face. After taking the clubs to the range twice and just completing my first round of golf with them, I now feel VERY confident when I am 180 - 225ish yards away from the pin. Whereas before I would either shank my hybrid or just lay up. As the old saying goes - "The proof is in the pudding" - Yesterday I played Steele Canyon golf course and they have a 210 yard par 3. I hit my 3 hybrid within a few feet of the hole for a kick in birdie. This would NEVER have been possible with my old club and likely wouldn't have been possible with any off the rack club. If you're like me and were considering getting fitted for clubs but didn't know if you needed them and/or wasn't sure if it was too expensive, stop reading this review and call Gene! Scott provided excellent service and was able to complete the repair the same day. It looks like they have a great set-up for custom fitting as well. Gene is the man! Tom Wishon himself says Gene is one of the best club builders in North America. I came to Gene to customize an ER2 Evenroll putter that I picked up on eBay. After reviewing my old putter and the new putter Gene also had me take a look at some other options that better suited my swing. Even though I was meticulous in my research for my next putter Gene in one hour session made a better recommendation than weeks of research and trial and error. I talked to a number using Gene's reviews as my benchmark. Well, nobody inspired enough confidence to even try. Not like Gene! I had a fitting and was blown away! Nothing resembling the stereotypical stuff! I got my heads shafted into a set of Nippon shafts I could swing for days and not be sore! The balance needed some adjustments so I went in and he knew exactly what I was looking for by notes he took during the first fitting - heck, I didn't even know!! I'm not a very good golfer to begin with, definitely not on the level that some of the other reviewers seem to be. I've only had one set of clubs in my life, some hand me downs that were bought from Costco. That being said, I've had the bug for a long time and have played way too many rounds for a person with a full-time job. I figured now was a good time to invest in a new set of clubs. I knew that the first thing I had to do was get fitted. ADS Golf provides a golfer w/ a custom club fitting that is head and shoulders above its competition. Superb customer service. Gene and company are true professionals! It's been ten years since I picked up golf and I was on my fifth set of off the rack clubs when I decided to get a club fitting. I've made appointments w/ at least three golf stores in town and then I heard of ADS golf from a co-worker. Contacted Gene, who then gladly booked an appointment for me and two months later, I am one happy customer of ADS Golf. Gene made me a set of custom made Wishon 575 irons and a couple of Gauge Design wedges. Fitting took a couple of hours, plus a couple of follow on appointments to adjust the loft and lie to my satisfaction. The price of ADS Golf custom fitted clubs are competitive w/ major OEMs in the market today. Gene made the time to make sure I'm satisfied and that is the reason why my clubs are so custom fit to my not so good looking swing. There was no additional charge on any of follow on visits. Gene will encourage you to come back if you're feel the clubs need more tweaking, and he will adjust them until you are satisfied w/ the feel and ball flight! I have improved my scoring by at least four strokes. The most satisfying result is I just have to address the ball and swing the golf clubs! for the first time I can pull by 4iron from the bag knowing that I can hit it. Ball dispersion is consistent w/ these clubs that I'm now starting to enjoy working on ball flights. Been playing golf for a few years now, never took it serious until this past year. Dropped a bunch of strokes and decided it might be worth going to a fitter. Let me tell you if you are considering doing this, just go ahead and do it, and most definitely go to Gene over at ADS. Gene is an all around good guy, extraordinarily knowledgable about the fitting process, and has all the shaft, grip, club combos you could need to get set up the best possible way. Amazing Staff and the friendly confines of ADS offer great service and profession club fitting. I was recently fitted by Gene and purchased a Tom Wishon Hybrid and Tom Wishon #4 metal. Both clubs are in the bag and love them. While in the shop recently I tested ADS Golf's new driver available in August. At 44" it feels great and I striped every hit. The Tour Dyanamix is on my Christmas wish list....I love my Taylor Made Burner Super Fast, but after how well I hit that driver, it might just land in the bag. Due to a shoulder injury I had not been able to play golf for over 9 months. Getting back into golf, I was looking for more distance control and a smoother feeling shaft at impact. Gene understood what I was looking for and had me try several different shafts until we found one that felt good and was consistent. With the possible exception of taking lessons, Gene Bonk & Keith McGuire ( ADS Golf) have done more to improve my game than any single thing that I have attempted to do. Having just picked up a newer set of irons, I thought it would be a good idea to have a professional, club fitter simply confirm that they were properly set up for me. And he is currently TEACHING at the Golf Academy. (He didn't happen to mention any these accomplishments. I counted the plaques on the wall). What Gene does quite simply, is listen (what a concept!) to what you believe you would like to accomplish to improve your game and after going through a very through fitting process, offer (not sell) you a variety of possibilities for improvement. You can do as much or as little as you want. There is no pressure. His cost are VERY reasonable and he is very generous with his time. Gene & Keith are well connected to both the large and small companies in the golf industry. And they are aware and have access to the newest golf components and products. After trying a variety of head and shaft combinations, - including my own, I was able to feel the difference between what I had been using and what I could be using. (Specifically, as a result of putting different amount of weight either in the head or the grip, I had a better "sense" of the club head.) Based on where the ball was consistently striking the club face (inside), Gene made the following recommendation: (that I agreed to) (1) Reduce length by 1/2". (2) Weight each club so that they would have the same feeling. I just have to say Thank you! I was doing some research because I was in the market for some new clubs and I was looking at the latest and greatest from all the name brands and I almost bought a set of Mizuno JPX EZs. But something told me to keep looking. I came across ADS golf and Gene Bonk and saw Tom Wishon's testimonial for him, and his website. All the information made so much sense to me. Gene spent 2 hours with me using the state of the are Track Man figuring out what would work best for me and my swing. Based on all the information and the skill of Gene, I had a set of Wishon 771′s built for me. I played with them on Sunday. I usually shoot in the mid 90′s, I shot an 84 on Sunday and that was with a quadruple bogey. I've never been close to that in my life! If a few more putts would have dropped I break 80! Prior to meeting Gene Bonk and Scott at ADS Golf I had been a PING customer for approximately forty years. Actually buying new clubs each time PING introduced a new model. When Ping introduced the K-15 Model, I put a full set in my bag. I was immediately dissatisfied with my performance and could not understand why I was not able to depend on distance, trajectory and disbursement. My handicap index soared upward. I was looking for answers when I was introduced to Gene Bonk of ADS Golf. Gene went through my bag examining each club i.e. loft, shaft frequency and alignment etc. My golf swing was also evaluated. I received a very professional explanation as to why I favored one club while lacking confidence with other clubs. I wanted Gene to fit me for a set of Tom Wishon Golf Clubs. Gene would only agree to build me a #6 Iron. Once I received the #6 Iron I was required to provide performance reports from play and range practice w/ the #6 Iron. Getting my clubs fitted was the best thing I had ever done for my golf game.... Even with numerous lessons from PGA teaching professionals my game wasn't where I wanted it to be at. ADS Golf is without a doubt the single best place to be custom fit for golf clubs in all of Southern California (Think 1950's customer service....they will go above and beyond to meet and exceed your expectations). Using state of the art TRACKMAN (exactly what PGA tour pros use) Gene will gather more information about your golf swing than you ever thought possible, and fit you into exactly what you need to maximize you golf potential and have more fun. Don't be a sheep and buy into all the hype and marketing crap put out there by the big box stores and major equipment brands. You absolutely cannot buy a better golf game just by having the latest and greatest equipment. Walk into any other golf shop and being "fit" for clubs most likely includes hitting balls into a net to determine if you need regular or stiff shafts and/or some random employee having you hit a SINGLE iron off of a lie board and then bending the rest of the clubs in the set to progressively match. They may also take a wrist to floor measurement to get you into the desired club length. To me this type of "fitting" (if you can even call it that) is the equivalent of being fit/measured for a suit/tuxedo by stepping onto a scale. Yes, it will give you some information, but its not really what you need to get the job done the right way. I am a low single digit handicap and take my golf game very serious. I recently had ADS build me custom golf clubs from the ground up (Head, Shaft, Flex, Loft, Lie, Grip, Grip Size, Swing Weight, Clubs MOI Matched, Shafts Spine Aligned) and I spent exactly what it would cost to walk into any other golf shop and buy new clubs off the rack. ADS will TAKE THEIR TIME and make sure they fit you for every aspect of the golf club. For me personally this was over 4-5 different fitting sessions/appointments and Gene only charged me a one-time fitting fee. This place is AWESOME, if you love Golf you got to go. I had a trip planned to San Diego and looked for a place to get my current clubs analyzed, which was fitted by a local club maker. I did a lot of searching and reading for several weeks and when I found ADS golf website and read the reviews it was a place I wanted to try. I sent an email and requested an appointment and received a quick response. When the day finally arrived we drove down from LA, don't relay on the GPS, it will take you on a round about why to get the shop. Gene showed me around the shop, took measurements of my driver, answered any questions that I had and explained what he was doing. Other shops they kind of hide the build and fix area. At ADS I could freely walk around and ask questions. It was great. Gene has away to make you feel at ease. We spent hours hitting a series of balls with the different combinations of shafts, heads, weights. Gene monitored each results through Trackman and also ask for my feed back. Talking over the results with Gene help me realized faults in my swing and setup. I have been able to take these fixes to the course and had great results. I made a second appointment the next day for my irons and again it was a great session, going through the different combinations took few hours. Gene never rushed me or made me feel like we had to hurry, even though we had been spend a few hours. There was no pressure to buy anything.
