For our weekend road trip down south, we wanted to try something different besides tandem paragliding and good food. We found Performance Archery and their 1-hour intro lesson for $40 per person. Pretty fair deal. Me, my wife, and both our boys all tried compound bows. It was a tiring but fun afternoon. The next day, me and my wife definitely felt some muscles we do not use often. LOL. Our instructor, Todd, was very helpful and encouraging. He explained what we, as complete newbies, needed to know without making it confusing. Safety, stance, how to hold the bow, how to aim, and how to release. Just enough to get us started and actually enjoy it. He also gave a lot of praise to my youngest son, who showed some real potential. It was his first time ever shooting a bow, and he hit yellow at 10 yards. Beginner's luck? Maybe once. But he kept hitting yellow again and again. Because of that, I asked my youngest, who is 15, if he wanted to continue with archery and see where it goes. He said yes, so we ended up getting him a package that should last him a few years: an Elite Archery Basin RTS, a release, arrows, and a bag. He was super happy. The staff was also very helpful in setting up the bow for him. They adjusted the draw length, draw weight, and peep sight, and made sure it fit him properly. The only sad part is that this place is far from home. I checked Yelp reviews for places closer to us, and honestly, they do not look as encouraging. Overall, this was a really good afternoon. Had such a fun time! Came to Performance Archery for some lessons with my group and our instructor for today was Austin (? not sure if I spelled your name right lol). The session lasted for an hour, but the lesson was very thorough, yet easy to follow along with. I also appreciated the guidance during my first time here because it's so easy to feel intimidated and to not know where to even begin when it comes to activities like archery. I first started gaining interest when I went on a camping trip a while ago, so it's nice knowing that there's a spot nearby where I can practice with rental services (and with good company) on my own time. read more

I have had nothing but bad experiences with Performance Archery. I've paid for multiple setup fees and my bow's are never in tuned correctly or setup to my liking. If they tune my bow and I come back bc it's out of tune they charge me again!!! Recently my Mathews Title needed new limbs on a warranty claim bc of a weak limb. Very important!!!! The shop I'm loyal to, Bow N Arrow shop because they always does fantastic work on my bow. They NEVER overcharge me either!!! If I get a set of strings installed there they will NEVER charge me for tuneups on the life of that string set!!!!!! I brought my bow to my technician. My bow tech gave me a video and showed me why I 100% had a weak limb. The cam lean in My bottom cam was so bad it was rubbing the inside of the left side of my yoke on my new string set! Everyone at the shop was in agreement that this was warranty claim due to a weak limb issue. Since Bow n Arrow is not authorized Mathews dealers, I took my bow to Performance Archery for them to start the warranty claim. They asked if they could touch my bow (no mention of a charge and I'm in there for a warranty claim!) but I agree. They take my bow to the back and all four technicians there agree it is not a Cam lean issue or a weak limb issue and that it is ai ply a top hat issue. They proceeded to flip my top hats, so that there was only 1 mm of clearance from the Yoke cable from the Cam and did not fix the Cam lean at all. Matter of fact the problem was 100% still apparent and they let me leave and made me pay!!!! They looked me straight in my face and told me that Mathews is amazing with doing warranty claims! That all it takes is making the request and that it's easy, and then they did not do the warranty claim for me and gave me excuses and did not fix the problem. And charged me! The next day I took my bow back to my Bow technician at Bow N Arrow Shop showed them what they did and what they charged me for! They said it was completely I appropriate and they told me that the same problem was still an issue and that whatever they did didn't fix anything!! They also tone me I still can't shoot my bow. So then I was told by my Bow technician to call Bret at Willow Creek Archery.. Bret is Is amazing! I told him what I was going on, what I had been through and he immediately agreed that it was a week limb issue over the phone!!!!!! I sent him the video of my Bow on the bow draw board at the Bow N Arrow Shop showing the problem and diagnosing the weak limb issue and stating it was a warranty claim 100%. Unlike Performance Archery, He immediately got a hold of Mathews sent them my information and immediately was approved for a brand new set of limbs! Imagine that!!! The point is, Performance Archery does shawty rushed work on bows that they tune. They misdiagnosed and negate responsibility for obvious warranty claims. I could've derailed my cables and needed another new $200 string set. That's how bad it was. They charged me for a full set up fee and my bow is completely out of tune and I was still left with the same problem. Insult to injury! Bottom line: Go to Bow N Arrow Shop! 100%! The majority of the time if they don't need to charge you, they won't, and if they need to, their bench rates are better than Performance Archery and they do better work. Also, Bret at Willow Creek Archery Is amazing! And Bruce from Bow N Arrow Shop is fantastic and all of their Bow Techs there are phenomenal. Avoid Performance Archery at all costs!!! read more

Had a pleasant experience with an introductory recurve class. I appreciated that it was a small class (3 students) in the evening so plenty of direct instruction. We were able to shoot for most of the hour. Instructor was fun and clear and we made progress quickly. The shop is substantially bigger than I expected with huge selection if you're purchasing. But having an indoor range at a pretty central location is neat. Online scheduling was convenient and straightforward and the price of a class was fair so definitely give it a go if you're even remotely interested. read more

He gave us a lot of variety in shooting practice by using paper targets, balloons, and even a gnome named Stanley! Professional, clean, fun! Easy to find and lots of parking available. Came on a Saturday for a Compound Beginner Archery class 4-5PM. Made my reservation online 4 days in advance and had no issues. Our instructor paid close attention to all the students (about 6 people). We got to shoot targets, stress balls, and balloons. Lots of fun! Would come back. Booked a lesson online to learn about compound bows. It's easy to book on their site. Had a lesson taught by Todd, who went over basic range safety and how to use the equipment properly and safely. He dialed in the Bows for us after each round, and by the end, I was hitting the bullseye with all 4 arrows. Very enjoyable lesson and would recommend this place to anyone thinking about trying Archery. At $40 for an hour lesson (all equipment included), it can't be any easier to try. They also rent equipment for a day, and I think he said lane fee's are only $6 per half hour. I'll definitely be back. read more

Had a lesson with Leo today for my birthday. He was patient, chill, very instructive and helpful and the perfect instructor for my husband and I. We will definitely be back and hopefully with our kids, which he was encouraging of. I would highly recommend this place. They also seemed to have a well stocked store of archery gear as well as potentially a staff to help with your own personal bow upgrades or improvements. I brought my compound bow for service with $100 deluxe tune. Supposed DELUXE tune,..total service charge and equipment $377 and when I brought it home and excited to see how the paper tune would be perfect, it had a horrible right low diagonal tear! so what was the deluxe tune for?! This archery shop is hands down one of the best in the nation (if not globally). I travel from Camarillo to San Diego, and every time the trip is worth it. The team is awesome. It's always great to see Bob and Phaen. I have learned so much from them. They played a huge part in helping me harvest my first hog with a bow by sharing their knowledge and wisdom. Prior to traveling to TAC earlier this year, I drove down there to pick up new arrows and a new release. I appreciate how their team explain the pros and cons of a particular set up and accessories selection. With archery, there's usually a tradeoff. Most recently, Craig helped me get squared away with new strings and building custom arrows. The attention to detail by this shop is excellent. My buddy at the archery club we're a member of was the one who introduced me to this shop. We drove down together in May 2023 to pick up my Hoyt VTM 31 - Keep Hammering Edition, and I haven't looked back since. My next bow will be purchased here as well. A huge part of archery is mental, and having confidence in your equipment goes in long way. This shop is a pro's pro. read more

But for someone buying a whole brand new bow with accessories, and dropping well over $2400 in their establishment, they wouldn't be in such a hurry to rush you out the door. One I selected the bow I wanted to purchase, they hurriedly put on the rest and sight. Not once test shooting it, paper tuning it , or even set up my sight. Me and my friends signed up right away and we had a blast. Our instructor, Leo, was super knowledgeable, encouraging, and helpful. He had great tips for all of us to improve our form and hit the target! Super cool experience and definitely will come back! They also provide rental equipment and charge an hourly rate - I think their lessons are $35 and the hourly rate without the lessons is $20(?) not 100% sure but it should be on their website. Came to have a lighthearted date with my boyfriend and decided to sign up for one of their Compound Bow lessons since we've only ever tried Recurve Bows. You can make an appointment online pretty easily! - PARKING - Located next to Serpentine Cider and Lost Cause Meadery, there are enough parking spots for all businesses in the plaza tract. - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - When you first walk in, it's a storefront to buy bows and other accessories. We were greeted by a staff member who we told we had a class, and he led us to the back of the building where there's a large empty corridor/room where lanes are set up. Not a huge area, so I think there's a scheduling system as to not overcrowd the space. - ARCHERY CLASS - $40 per person for an hour-long class. We had a full class of 6, or 3 groups of 2. One group was about 15 minutes late, so we had to wait for them to get geared up and have their bows set up. Our instructor walked us through the different parts of the bow, proper technique/etiquette, and led us through our first few shots. The instruction/introduction took about another 10-15minutes, so we were left with ~30-40minutes to shoot. We had to take turns though, and also had to wait for the entire room to be cleared to walk down the lanes to retrieve the arrows. I ended up getting 3 rounds, but my boyfriend only got 2. That was the main qualm about this class - you're really at the hands of the other participants in terms of time. - OVERALL - Really fun experience, great introduction to Compound Bows. Might come back another day to shoot down the lanes on our own. read more

This was SUCH a great experience! We went here on a double date with our friends and booked the 1hr beginners lesson. Leo was our teacher and he was so amazing! He walked us through all the safety stuff pretty quickly and then helped us adjust our grip, taught us how to look through the site, etc. as we practiced. They have a couple fun aspects to the lesson like popping balloons and shooting a troll statue which was really cute and fun. The lesson felt like he definitely taught us the basics but we still got to actually shoot for the majority of the time which was really great. Highly highly recommend for a fun date night, bachelorette party, etc. So much fun!! read more

What an amazing experience! I am new to archery and was a little reluctant to actually walk into a store like this. I was helped by Leo who took his time explaining the different types of bows. He also gave me a mini lesson on how to properly hold and shoot a recurve bow. He was patient, understanding, did not man-splain or make me feel stupid for asking basic questions and did not try to up- sell me on anything that I did not need. I plan to return for lessons because I truly am new to archery and want to learn more. I highly recommend this facility. One suggestion would be to get more pink stuff! HA!
