I had heard about this place... but never been. Finally took a browse. I'm still not sure how I would categorize it. A market full of random stuff. I wouldn't say it has essentials, but some things I observed.. A section of home goods Lots of mugs Snacks More snacks Random mini snacks Lots of pillows Some chairs I walked out with: a mug, 2 coffee syrups, and a bag of chips. It's been a long time since I've been in a World Market store. With that being said, I was like a kid in a candy store!! It's a cool international store. They offer furniture, home decor, candles, cards, holiday decorations, liquor, kitchen supplies, to a huge selection of food items!! The store was beautifully designed and organized. I'm not a shopper by any stretch, in fact, I'm a grab it and go guy. Minimal time in the store usually, but not here. I actually like to browse for a few and never see it all, but enjoy every minute of it! This is unheard of from me. It is the one store that will not make me bored or anxious to get in line. I'm usually the one rushing my wife or telling her that I'll be getting a beer or be walking the mall. I really don't buy too much here, but they do have an eclectic beer selection and candy's and snacks unseen around here. The furniture and home furnishings are pretty unique and cool, different styles than you would find locally. Again, from all over the globe. Customer service has been stellar every time honestly. May 9, 2026 I had a very disappointing experience today at the World Market location, and as someone responsible for facilities purchasing for a major local company, I believe this is important feedback for both corporate leadership and store ownership. I stopped in this morning to purchase an additional Mother's Day gift for my mother. I selected a candle priced at approximately $16.50 and proceeded to checkout with a $100 bill. The cashier informed me she could not complete the sale because she did not have enough change in her register. I politely suggested that perhaps another register could assist with the transaction, since the change required would have been roughly $81.71. The cashier appeared unwilling to ask for assistance, so I requested a manager. The manager then informed me that unless I spent at least $50 in the store, they would not break the bill or complete the transaction. I was honestly shocked by this response. It was approximately 11:30 a.m., the store had been open since 9:00 a.m., and the location was busy with customers. It is difficult to believe the store lacked the ability to complete a standard retail transaction involving a $100 bill. What should have been a simple purchase turned into an unnecessarily frustrating and dismissive experience. I left the store feeling rejected as a customer and extremely disappointed by the level of service and lack of problem-solving demonstrated by both the cashier and management. Most importantly, this interaction cost the store far more than a $16 candle sale. I was actively considering World Market Grossmont Center for future large-scale purchasing related to my professional role in facilities management. After today's experience, I will not be spending my personal or professional dollars with this company moving forward. I go in to look around and see what they have just to be followed around. security came out and an associate told them i look suspicious. just because i have neck tatts don't make anyone a bad person. my clothes are clean so obviously i don't look homeless. When I couldn't find a particular flavor of Torani syrup the floor clerk cheerfully agreed to check in the back. When he couldn't find it, he called the manager who also took considerable time looking on the different displays and then apologized. Great customer service! 5 star except for their website indicating bottles that had walked off. I'll call next time and not rely on the inventory program. I asked a clerk working near fragrances and I asked if store carried a light hair or body spray I bought there in May 2025 I received and a rude unprofessional response of "A hair-body perfume I never heard of that, and I have been working here for six years. Besides we are closing out in that area." Normally a professional answer would be: "There are a few fragrances; but I don't remember that kind of product and honestly, I am sorry, we are closing out fragrances, so the choices are few." Had an okay, mixed experience at this World Market location in La Mesa...As always, the variety and selection of goods from around the world was outstanding. The store itself was fairly well laid out and organized as well. Things faltered a bit upon checkout. There was only one cashier, who was providing great service to a customer. However, this resulted in a rather long queue. Backup was eventually called but we were waiting for quite some time. The cashier was very friendly. Not sure if this is the norm or if we came at a bad time. World Market is still a cool place though, worth checking out when in the area. read more

I'm beginning to wonder if Yelp doesn't remove reviews after some time because when I first joined Yelp I was reviewing a I every place I went so it's hard to imagine I wouldn't have reviewed this place. However I didn't see a review from me so I will write a new one. I've been shopping here for years. I was recently out of town for about 6 years and this was one of the first places I headed for when I came back. They always have such unique items even if they are high priced. I bought some lavender tea, some bag clips in the style that I like, some glitter gel, some lavender spice and a cute tote with mushrooms on it. I will enjoy and use all of them. I've never had the opportunity to shop at World Market until Christmas time, I came in to pick up a container of fortune cookies and this location had it in stock. Super easy to find the cookies and they were still really crunchy, for the price it was well worth it! This store is super organized and really aesthetically pleasing plus their team members are so kind. I ended up getting some additional things including amaretti cookies, ornaments for our home and ornaments to trade for an ornament exchange. Sometimes you're in search for something unique and interesting to add to your home decor. Where TJ Maxx goes more farmhouse, World Market is more eclectic. It used to be cost plus with an understanding of lower prices. But not anymore. Prices are fairly standard and I wouldn't consider this a spot for deals. Waited in line for over 10 minutes the store was not busy at all, but the cashier Joanne or Joann seemed to not want to help me she continued talking with her customer for several minutes even offering helping her take her stuff to the car which was kind of crazy because she didn't have any furniture items or anything that needed assistance also asking her about an online ordering service and guiding her to another part of the store meanwhile it seemed like the customer wanted to get out of there. Finally someone else came to help me checkout. It was the weirdest experience ever, a simple "I'll be right with you" would have sufficed or a sense of urgency in helping someone buy two small items... left a sour taste in my mouth after that and wondering if it was due to my skin color. read more

I love coming here, and I'm always amused by the items they have. From furniture, decorations to wines and food. We came here to pick a housewarming gift for a friend. We decided to make them a wine and cheese basket. We were able to find everything we needed in one spot Grabbed the basket, cheese board, cheese knifes, crackers, cheese, meats, spreads and a bottle of wine in a matter of minutes my favorite part is that a lot of their items you can't find anywhere else. I always have to put a time limit for myself when I'm at these kinds of stores because otherwise I would stay at these places for the whole day lol. A bunch of international knick knacks, kitchenware, snacks, drinks, furniture, etc. So many different things to see!! World Market stores are like Target stores on steroids when it comes to seeing really cute "I want it but I don't need it" stuff haha. Definitely a nice place to get some uniquely designed gifts. I docked a star for this location because there isn't much cohesiveness with the aisles; there are main aisles and then there are sub-aisles randomly placed and it's kinda easy to get lost lol I eventually somehow ended up being back to right where I entered the store haha. read more

Loved it!! I always loved shopping in the world market. There were one in downtown...but they closed that down. It's like a big part loss in my book for downtown. So I totally loved it to find one in Grossmont Parkway Mall! Just loved the international feel in it each time I gone into the store. It's like getting things that I like from the countries I have visited in the past or planned on in my futures Or able to decorated my home with different beautiful furnitures. We have been attempting to use an e-gift card since Christmas, with little success. In March, 2 store employees, including a manager, tried to help me use it in store. Recently, I tried again with an online purchase. This past weekend my BF and I headed over to Grossmont Center again to see if the third time was the charm. Love, love, love this store! I was just there this week looking around for some throw rugs. One of the employees was able to recommend the right style and color based on the description I gave her about the type of furniture in our dining area. I also needed a few kitchen gadgets that I found were of good quality and made in Germany. The selection of packaged foods is wonderful too, although their beer and wine selection isn't so great. But everything else in the store is pretty much one of a kind or imported. It's the best shopping experience you'll find in the Grossmont Center Mall. It's big and easy to start buying once you wander around! read more

Workers here are so rude. I bought my one year old daughter a pig stuff toy and when we went to check out and saw the bottom was dirty. I asked if I could switch it out and they said no. I went to another World Market location to find the chair I had always wanted, but they were out of inventory. They called La Mesa which still had one left to put a hold for me (I know it was another person, not Rachael. Thank you to that employee too). Rachael helped me complete the transaction when I came to the store. And she told me there's a sale going on, so I got a small discount too. The most challenging part is how to get this chair home. I come here usually to check out their wines. Sometimes they have good sales and I like their unique collection or hard to find wines, even Bevmo does not carry sometimes. Anyways, I was looking for some Malbec, which fortunately they had a good selection to choose from. The Antigal Uno was over priced I felt, unless you bought 12 bottles or more, but the Belasco Llama Malbec was reasonable under the member price for $12. I picked one bottle for the weekend. They also carry of local and out of the area craft beers and some impressive chocolates from everywhere. There were a few chocolates that I have never heard of, whichis one of the benefits of coming to a place like this. I always find something new. The young lady at the register was totally cool. She greeted me nicely on the way in and provided relevant small talk at the register. By the the way, that bottle of Malbec I bought, was velvety and smooth. read more

i am a fan of Cost Plus World Market...this location is meh...the stuff is all the same great stuff but the customer service...not so much. Not gonna give them a bad star rating over one employee...but what i said needs to be heard. I ordered a pillow online (yes one pillow and it was only available at this store)...my usual first choice is La Jolla, second choice is near 4S ranch area...this was a bit of a drive for me. I arrive with all my paperwork in hand...I walk up to the counter that has a sign indicating that it is where i go for online order pickup.. the guy ignores me...I wait and wait and wait...(like 5 minutes)...I finally say excuse me (while showing him the order pickup form)...i need to pick up an online order. He points to the LONG line (like really long...like 50 people long) and tells me to stand in line. I let him know that my item is paid for and i just need to pick it up (in fact it was right next to him with my name attached to it on a paper) I tried to let him know and he turned his back to me. there was really no way to politely grab his attention at all. Then he walked away... Finally another guy was lingering around the area...i quickly said hello and informed him that i needed to pick up my online order and it was right behind the counter...with this guy it wasn't a problem at all...he happily handed my pillow to me... that first guy needed to get put in check...but i left...had to get out. not likely i will come back read more

Went shopping on 11/16/22, around 1:00pm. There was an employee stocking inventory on the back shelf of the store. I was in an adjacent aisle, when I heard this employee coughing her lungs out. I peek around the corner and saw her a foot away from the items, coughing all over everything that she was stocking and not even attempting to cover her mouth! Ew! We make brief eye-contact, then I went back to shopping, thinking that perhaps it was just a one-time thing.....nope, there she was, coughing and hacking all over everything again. I talked to an employee about it. She was as concerned as I was and offered to have me talk to a manager about what I witnessed. I told her that I just wanted someone to tell that employee that she needs to cover her mouth when she coughs, but the employee insisted I speak with her manager. Boy, what a mistake that was... the manager came out, I tell her about what I saw and the first thing she said was, " just so you know, we're all heath screened before we start work". Uhhh, ok.... So it's okay to cough droplets out of your mouth, onto items that we're potentially going to buy, just because some person (likely not in the healthcare industry) screens you and says you're cleared to work...!?!?
