I love Dollar Tree and this one has so much parking and is always stocked with so many goodies. I normally come here to get snacks, they have such a great selection of chocolates, chips, sours etc and you don't feel horrible buying so many because it's all so affordable. Whenever we are travelling I make a goodie bag for the flight attendants using treats from here and it's a hit, plus you can get movie theatre size candies without movie theatre costs. Everyone here is super friendly, the cashiers are always so nice and fast and efficient which can be a lot considering how busy this store can get. With everything going up I'm glad you can come here and spoil yourself a little! read more

DOLLAR TREE @ UNIVERSITY AVE Parking is available right in front. This area is not the safest, there is a lot of litter and trash everywhere. This dollar tree is very dirty and has a quite odd smell walking in. Honestly, they do have a good selection of items, I only came here for some birthday decor. I don't know why this store isn't rated higher Except for the fact that this area like all poorer areas, has people who are struggling and probably aren't that happy. And don't write reviews. I'm struggling too but after coming out of a year without transportation that was legal on the road, I'm HAPPY to be again venturing out and to other locations of small chain stores that I like. Dollar Tree and Grocery Outlet both are decent, well stocked stores once you leave the strip mall on Second Street in El Cajon. In my younger years I used to manage and do merchandising in retail stores. And I still find myself straightening up a shelf or two as I shop. In this store too but at least this store has someone who makes sure there is a good stock of inventory. I'm always happy to shop here. Update: I just read a few other reviews for this location. Yes, only one checkout open but that is literally the case at most stores these days. They call backup when the line gets too long; clear the line down to a reasonable length and then the backup person goes back to checking in stock or something. Complaining about a single cashier today just seems petty. Even if I order stuff online I have to wait at least two days for it to arrive. A few minutes in line is no big deal. read more

Not only because they are fully stocked most of the time, but because a young lady named by the name Christy is so nice and always helps everyone with everything. Returned trip: Friday 8/29/20 Auosha is the name of this employee. She was checkout cashier and we observed her multiple times eating a Snickers and licking her fingers in between transactions. She ate it under her mask which is fine if this was her break but it's really unsanitary and unprofessional for her to lick her fingers while processing sales. Disgusting. I have come to this location several times. The store is neat and clean with great bargains. They seem to carry a little of everything from food items to office supply things. Right now they have a nice selection of Valentine's Day items: balloons, cards, gift bags, candies and other fun things. Never Again! I was only in the are because I had to stop over here. I had a migraine and couldn't hold off driving back to La Jolla so I stopped in to get Ibuprofen and something to drink today around 12 PM. Let me just say the lady at the counter. Total B. This location can be pretty hit or miss. They offer the same items as other Dollar Tree stores so the only real thing to rate them on is service and cleanliness. Service, well depending on the day and time you come you could either end up with no line (like I did my last visit) or have a 20 minute wait. Even though they have multiple check out lanes they only ever open one lane and you don't tend to see many employees. The employees have never been rude or anything but they are not very friendly. They are there to do their job and leave. Cleanliness is usually pretty decent. The store is kind of dingy feeling, it could definitely do with some updates but the shelves are generally organized so it's not hard to find anything. Also, if you bring your own bag because you don't want to pay for a bag, expect to bag your items yourself. They do not bag your items. read more

The closest 99 cent store to home but not the best for sure. Limited selection and usually very crowded so I know to avoid the place at certain times. The lines move pretty fast here though. They do have a decent spread of special occasion cards to choose from. Plenty of kitchen utensils too. Cheap cleaning supplies as well. The medicine area has Tylenol and Advil copy pain relievers, and basic stuff like band aids, cold medicine, and even a pepto bismol copy. Not too bad for $1. The store at this location says on Google that it closes at 10 PM and when you're in front of the door it also says the store closes at 10 PM as well. I showed up at 9:23pm and the front door was locked. I knocked on the door and asked if they were still open and they told me no they were closed. I explained that their sign says they are open till 10. the manager told me that they close early because it takes her about 20 minutes to count and balance out the money in the back. She then told me she would let me in only if I hurried up. Even though I was grateful for her to let me in I was pissed that I felt rushed. After leaving the store at about 930 I got into my car and within 3 minutes I saw a total of 5 people trying to figure out why the store wasn't open. This review is mainly for the service I received. Dollar Trees all have similar products and I find that their layout is similar as well. I came in here today to find something that I had purchased here a long time ago. They didn't have what I was looking for, but I did find some little lunch bags that were perfect for my workplace. We have been looking to order insulated lunch bags for our staff and they had the kind we wanted. Unfortunately, they did not have enough. I spoke to Clyde who was friendly and very helpful. He was polite and took me to the aisle where some additional lunch bags were. Although there weren't any more of the kind I wanted out on the floor, he told me to check back tomorrow because they would be getting in a new shipment. He also offered to go in the back to check, but he said chances were slim since they've had them for awhile. I was really surprised by this level of service. At bigger stores like Target/Walmart, I often find myself running around hunting down an employee to help me out. Clyde was fantastic. He answered all my questions, was knowledgeable, and had a smile on his face. If only all employees I ran into could be like him! Fantastic service, and the store was well-organized. I will probably be coming back here again just because of that. Bargain buys: -Helium balloons -Poster boards for school proj -Candy & other junk food -Holiday decorations -Partay! decorations -Household items (tupperware/glass cups/etc.) -Faux flowers for your honey boo boo. This is a horrible store. I come here multiple times a week and there is always a ridiculous long line where everyone pays with a card making the process extra slow and ONLY 1 employee working. I spent 15 to 30 minutes in line here every time absurd. HIRE MORE PEOPLE!!!!!!! I had a pretty disturbing interaction with a Dollar Tree associate today. I was treated very disrespectfully by sales associate 'F-----e' earlier today at store number 3821. When I let him know I didn't appreciate his tactlessness, he argued with me and continued to act unprofessionally in front of a line of customers. Frankie needs to be retrained or sent to work in the storeroom far away from customers until he understands how to interact professionally. I went to this Dollar Tree location again to use coupons for Hefty Slider bags. The cashier (Claudia) had a hissy fit over the coupons, and was a real b***ch about taking them. She complained that she had to void out the transaction, because she had to ring the items up in two transactions, and I was supposed to tell her that. I have never been to a dollar tree so I decided to check out a few in one day and this was my favorite!! I loved this place, they had so many things if you were looking to throw a party, from luau themed items to even wedding stuff. It was pretty amazing. I got a bunch of cute candles and decorations for my room. I also bought a lot of cleaning supplies and stuff for my bathroom. I seriously do not know why I go anywhere else for certain things. The staff was super nice and the whole store was very CLEAN and tidy. They even had a few workers that were just cleaning and organizing which I loved. The items are good and as always well priced(not much over a dollar here). the staff is friendly but not always highly knowledgeable about everything in the swtore but they try their best and I respect that. As an event planner, I visit these stores often...very often!! Much to my surprise, I was there this evening listening to an entire phone conversation one of their employees was having while on the floor working. Initially I thought it was a customer, as she was cursing and carrying on but my curiosity got the best of me and as I rounded the aisle, I was shocked to see her shirt with the store logo. It didn't phase her that she was in the kids aisle with kids in it and cursing like she was at home by herself!! Pathetic! This dollar tree is one of my gems! I love this store it's tucked away in the old Rolando shopping center. The customer service is outstanding! don't expect to get greeted at the door though. You can find almost anything from decor to cleaning products! The manager is the nicest most down to earth person I ever met. And all of the cashiers are really nice. I been to other dollar tree stores and this is by far the best one. The parking plentiful and its not a war zone like at the dollar tree on Murphy Canyon Road. I have found so many cool things in the store such as shampoo, body wash, dog clothing, dog toys, stainless steel water bottle and file organizers! I happen to like Dollar Tree, not so much for the lack of quality stuff or that most of its made in China, but for the values. Dollar Trees I think are better than most 99 cents stores and you can find alot of useful and fun stuff there. This particular location isnt my favorite. The are its in is quite shady and not maintained well, but theres always parking, the place keeps things organized well and theres lots of good staples (like effective cleaning supplies, party supplies, holiday decor, jugs of water, and even tons of name brands made in the US). So we shop here often to get things that are seasonal as well as basic stuff. I wouldnt attempt to get food from here, its a risk that no one should make, but everything thats not perishable is pretty much. The quality is better than the value for sure than 99 or 98 cents stores for the virtually the same price. I've had items from here that have lasted through a few seasons for what we use them for so its not half bad. As far as reviewing discount stores such as these comparatively to other similar establishments, and considering automatically they are on the lowest rung of the retail ladder (much like fast food joints are in the restaurant industry), this chain store deserves a higher rating that its same level competitors. But this location is not the best Dollar Tree Ive been too. There are far better Dollar Trees than this location. Customer service here is average where as other stores I've experienced above average. Other stores are also larger allowing more room for more things and more variety of things. Parking and maintenance at other locations is far better as well. Because of its location and smaller size it loses two stars. We will keep coming back here as its our closest Dollar Tree, and know the place has potential to improve so if it does I will be amending this review. read more

I really hate to leave a review like this but this store is the worst. There's a lady there... I actually think she's the manager though I am not totally sure, think her name is Claudia, hopefully I am not mixing up her name tag with someone else. but she's there every time I've been there around opening time. She is just awful!!! I work in retail so I know what it's like, but this lady is unbearable with her rude shit don't stink attitude. I have not had any issue with the store or my purchases so this is not a biased review. I just cant stand to be in there and hear her treat both employees and customers like crap while I'm shopping. I have come into this store 4x total, all 4 times I left irritated with this chick. Thought maybe it was just a bad day and would give it another try. Nope, its consistent. Today I heard her go over the intercom and humiliate a mom in the store with her kids. I immediately left my basket of stuff and walked out. Will never be back.
