I've always loved the food aisle and the men's grooming products aisle at the Santee TJMaxx. In the food aisle they always had plenty of stock of a variety of unique and fun hot sauces, jams, jellies, oils, spices, etc. As of late, however, that has not been the case. The quantity and variety has really been lacking. The men's grooming products section has basically been reduced to a couple of shelves. I first noticed shortly after Christmas and attributed it to just normal after holidays stock depletion. Our last time in was several months later. The hot sauce, etc. had improved a little bit. I was able to find a few things. Still not much had changed in terms of the men's aisle. It was still Mother Hubbard's bare Cupboard. read more

I'm so displeased with my entire experience at this TJ Maxx. I came into the store visibly on cameras with a bag that TJ Maxx sells, but due to it being large and having items in it, which I showed the fitting room worker, I was then followed in line where rather than them asking me to see inside my bag she tried to peek. I then purchased a jacket because I came for a specific attire and as I was leaving, of course I beeped because they didn't take off the sensor. I called and spoke to the manager, telling her that I previously worked retail, but that the entire experience was disgusting. read more

Now you need a rewards card, a TJMaxx credit card and a useless app that still won't allow me to spend my credits. Last night, I was racially profiled by one of the managers in the Store the minute she saw me come up to the register to do a return. She ran and started looking at my receipt and all my items. She said I had a lot of items I might've had seven things to return at most. She was so nasty and rude to me. I have never gotten good treatment in the store because of my race. Unprofessional, disappointing location. From management to cashiers who work there. It's disheartening how unprofessional the Management & Cashiers behaved today with my Daughter. She just came in to do a return of undergarments. They were tried on with other underwear on and did not fit so she came in to return. Receipt in hand. Older Hispanic lady in her 60's was refusing to do the return. So the Manager was called over. So they both begin to talk about my Daughter in Spanish. Right in front of her. We are Hispanic ourselves and speak Spanish. So my Daughter tells them I understand every word you are saying. And they just bugged their eyes out. How unprofessional!!! We will not be bringing our business back to this location. I hope management sees this and trains people how to behave when working customer service. Talking about people in an other language you speak other than English is wrong. Disrespectful and unprofessional. Train your people to do better. read more

I don't mind the selection at TJ Maxx in Santee, but the grumpy sales assistants make it a not so pleasant experience. That's bad enough, but in these circumstances I always think perhaps the SAs are not being treated well by their employers so don't bother leaving reviews, but today when checking out, the SA would not stop trying to get me to start a credit card, telling me about 8 times throughout the transaction that I would save $8. I said no thanks politely each time, but the last time gave her a firm no. After that she refused eye contact and was surly. I came in today to purchase some perfume along with a few other items. I've used this exact perfume for years and am out and was excited when I saw it there. As soon as I got to my car I opened it and noticed the bottle was different. I sprayed it and it was not even close to the same. Mind you, I just spent $64 on it. I walk back in 4 minutes later, explain the situation, and they tell me no. I was pretty upset because i literally just got scammed so I called customer service while still in the parking lot. She called the store and got them to take the perfume back but when I walk in, the managers are behind the counter talking about me and saying that I opened it and switched the perfume out with a fake one in the parking lot. Hate to break it to you Ruby, but your products are FAKE. I am not a thief and I heard what your were saying. You were wrong. Thank you for taking back your dollar tree perfume. Being a fairly "new" home owner, my husband and I didn't have some essentials since we lived so minimal prior to buying a home. Anyway, they got what I need which is great. I always end up going to the kitchen and skin care area because they have great deals on things I need. I have to be honest and up front it stating I don't love TJ Maxx stores, and never have, which obviously influences me ahead of time and my reviews. I tend to stop here only around Christmas time. My husband's grandpa loves to shop here so we generally get a few items that I would like to exchange. Also, I can almost always find gifts for friends here in the home or personal areas. The last time I came here I had no issues finding a cute candy, hot cocoa, mug gift set and wanted to buy them all, they were so cute. I also found a mug set for my parents when they are visiting so they can have their own. I have also been getting some kitchen items here like oven mitts, placemats, hand towels. My biggest issue with why I don't like this store is because it is always messy! I can't stand the clutter and messiness. I truly struggle in it. I also hate when clothes aren't laid out nice and neat, I don't dig through racks, too much work and never worth it. Another big issue is that if you love a dress but it doesn't fit, tough luck because chances are you won't find it in a different size. Overall, this is just an okay place for me. I expected more from this TJ Maxx. I came here because I wanted to look around for more lipsticks. I was looking around and managed to find a Kat Von D lipstick in the color Lolita. It's a pretty color that everyone can wear. There wasn't too much high end but a lot of regular stuff. There were a lot of gift sets on tables near the makeup section. Store wasn't as packed as I thought it was. The line wasn't long like other places on Black Friday. Lots of cute stuff here. My daughter got a My Little Pony book for $4.00 which was on sale. I definitely liked that. I only spent around $11.97 for two items. Not bad but I will come back for more. I definitely liked this location. My daughter needed to use the restroom and it was clean. I went over to return two item's in the original packages, that were given to my wife for her birthday. I had no receipt so I understood I was going to get a gift card, I was wrong the person that gave the gift removed the price like most people do. They said " since the stickers were remove they wouldn't take them back. They didn't even look to see if they were purchase from their store, which they were. I waited in line for 15 minutes and read the return policy board which was a bunch of small print and saw nothing about the sticker needing to be on the product. So stop saying you make returns easy when you don't. Its not nice to lie to your customers. read more

The store itself is okay, but they seriously need to train their cashiers in the art of customer service. I stopped in this afternoon- with my receipt- to return a swimsuit I had purchased 2 DAYS before. There was no one in line ahead of me, so I was happy I would be getting in and out quickly since I had a long list of other stops to make. There was one cashier open, and as I was standing at the front of the line waiting for the cashier to finish up with the customer, I overheard the most ridiculous, long, drawn out conversation I have EVER heard between a cashier and a customer they did not know in my life. The cashier, "Donna", was rambling ON AND ON about her fiance, and this that and the other thing. The customer had already paid and her items were bagged up, but Donna just could not shut up!! You could tell the customer was trying to wind it up and get away, and then Donna (despite seeing there was now a line of people waiting to check out, and I had been standing there WELL OVER 10 min. listening to this nonsense) launches into a whole other conversation about how if the customer had a 'good experience' at the store today, they can enter to win a $500 gift card by doing an online survey. And then Donna tells the customer - repeatedly - that if the customer would PLEASE mention Donna by name, it would really mean a lot to her. I was appalled Donna is making 5 other people wait in a ridiculous line while she tries to sweet talk a customer into mentioning what a 'good experience' she had at the store. The customer finally left, and when I brought my return up to Donna's station, she could tell I was obviously annoyed, and said "Thank you for your patience"". Pffft. I don't like my time being wasted with that BS... I proceeded to get the swimsuit out, and my receipt, and Donna asks me why I am returning it. The swimsuit was absolutely pristine, with all tags attached, the sanitary liner intact, and with my receipt. I told her I did not have time to try it on the other day, and I don't like it. She takes the swimsuit and then disappears for another 15-20 min. I literally was ready to explode. I can not imagine what her issue was, but when she finally comes back, swimsuit in hand, she says "sorry that took so long" and credited my credit card. WHAT took so long?? What on God's Earth was she doing other than further wasting my time? She certainly did not ask me to do an online review of her! But I absolutely will be doing an online review and calling her out by name, just like she wanted, except this review will not be pretty. Note to Management: People like this do not belong as cashiers. Donna *clearly* saw I was waiting in line while she was discussing her fiance with a customer she did not know (because she even asked the woman her name) and then proceeded to talk about how the woman should do an online survey so she gets brownie points while a line of 5 or 6 people was then building up behind me. I get there is a labor shortage. But people like Donna who have ZERO regard for customers time or any customer service skills whatsoever need to be working as stock clerks or dressing room attendants, not as cashiers where they can waste 45 min of a customers time FOR NO REASON. read more

My last visit I came in 20 minutes before closing and was able to easily find what I needed in less than 10 minutes. Check out had about a 3 minute wait, so it wasn't too bad. These are the fanciest fitting rooms I've ever beheld in such a discount establishment. Cream colored swirled wallpaper, new stalls. And, the piece de resistance, lights on either side of the mirror. Why does this matter? you ask (probably only if you're male). Because overhead fitting room lighting is the WORST LIGHTING ever. It casts weird shadows on your face, highlights every bit of fat and wrinkle you ever had and makes new ones. Therefore the bar lighting on the walls alongside the mirrors is a huge improvement, like you're being lit in a fashion magazine instead of at a TJ Maxx. Thus, I found several pairs of shorts that fit; and because this was a day of miracles, the shorts were all in a size smaller than what I normally wear. My husband also found a dress shirt for himself and we strolled out, hand in hand, on a glorious retail high. read more

I love this store and the others but i hate it to because when you spend the TIME TO REALLY LOOK you find some great bargain's, but there's so much stuff and mission valley is bigger then the one by the strip club and rosecranse street . So when you go don't forget to give yourself enough time to get everything you need the other thing is bring your fan so when you ring it up, you can fan yourself before you faint from the amount you spend , just remember its well spent and you REALLY needed everything you took home , even if when you unpack at home you look at and wonder what the heck its for! I bought a quilt here for $50 but when I brought it home it did not match my room decor. When I brought it in to return it with a receipt about a week later, the girl went and talked to her manager and then came back and said the receipt did not match the item. I then spoke with the manager directly and told her this is the only bedding item I have bought in the last month. She continued to argue with me telling me it smelled like I had washed it. I had not washed it. She also kept arguing that the item did not match the receipt. I know for sure that the item did match the receipt and I told her maybe someone in the store made a mistake with the label. Anyway after much back-and-forth she went ahead and did the return but rudely told me she would never do that again for me. What horrible customer service! I shop here all the time and I brought in my unused item with a receipt and was treated horribly. read more

I'm giving 1 star to warn people to be careful and stay alert here (and anywhere) a man appeared from behind the large planters when I walked by. I quickly noticed him and went inside the store keeping an eye on him, he then continued to walk through the store (not shopping) he gave me a bad feeling and I was honestly scared to walk to my car. But, seriously you actually do always end up finding something that you MUST have! This Tj Maxx is located by other awesome stores, BBB, Bath and Body works, Old Navy and 24 hour fitness. It is a huge parking lot, so you always find a spot! Also, it's also cool because the trolley runs through the shopping center area. read more

There's a wide selection of shoes, and clothing... and the employees are nice and helpful. While I do prefer Marshalls (same company) they seem to have a much better selection of clothing brands and home stuff, but this one is nice. The beauty section is big but the clothes section is always sparse with higher end brands. Purses and jewelry is a nice selection. I have been to this TJ Maxx several times and have honestly had good luck. Each time I have walked out with a bag full of stuff. I admit it, mostly shoes. This store location seems to have a better selection that appeals to me than the Mission Valley location. I also like that this store seems less crowded. And more clean and organized. The selection to choose from seems a bit smaller but for me it always seems to work out that a bag of stuff comes home with me. The prices are typical for TJ Maxx. The TJ Maxx in Santee has become one of my favorite bargain shopping destinations. On a good day I'd see some Marc by Marc Jacobs watches (I missed snapping up that pretty rose gold one!), Michael Kors purses, etc. They also carry some brand-name skin care products just like this DDF face wash that I got from there: Department store/Sephora price: $38. TJ Maxx price: $12.99. Sure, there's only one year left before it expires, but I've got no beef with that. At least I think it's still working! Their staff has always been very helpful and friendly, and the store is just plainly and simply quite a pleasurable place to shop. It's not too big, the layout flows, the fitting rooms are lovely, and of course, the quality of the merchandise is almost always tops. And the price is almost always right. read more

TJ Maxx in Santee is the East County version of Loehmann's. Its definitely hit or miss, but a great place to browse when you have the time and patience. It doesn't ALWAYS pay off for me, but when it rains it pours... if you go on the right day you can find some amazing deals. Example: within the same week, I found a pair of Hudson's and a pair of SFAM buried in the clearance rack for $26.00 and $34.00. These are the gems you need to be on the look out for, because they mainly only have Sears/Macy's level designer fashions (And I'm talking Parkway Plaza Macy's not Fashion Valley Macy's! Big difference!). I feel like every time they get really high end items, their merchandisers don't know how to price it out right and it always ends up in that clearance rack for cheap. It happens with clothes every now and then, luxury bedding and throw pillows, and even kitchen appliances that would normally run you a pretty penny. Next time you are near, you should just do a once over and see if you can find a deal of your own! read more

Lots of great clearance finds available after Christmas. I've been on the prowl to find a specific lamp. Unfortunately, my lamp was no where to be found here. I did however find a great stainless steel/ mother of pearl picture frame and La Creuset baking dish in the clearance section of the store, for $7 and $5 respectively. My trip was not in vain. Love these types of stores, but always have to go when I'm in the mood to browse - not looking for something specific. I went in and was excited to see some great products. The accessories/luxuries section had philosophy, h2o, kerastase... all very high end products. It is harder for me to shop in these stores because as with most women I don't have a simple body type. I tried a bunch of stuff on and was excited to find a couple of garments. I've been looking for a pair of cowboy boots (for sh*ts & giggles) and found a pair that not only fit but were mid calf height which is perfect for me. I always see great high end products - dooney purses, high end body care, great clothing labels. The store was going through some kind of repair/renovation when I went in, so the dressing room was hard to find, but I'll be back without a doubt. read more

What an awful experience I had at T.J. Maxx. It started in the Rosecrans store where the gentleman at the register handed me a receipt that was unlegible. So I asked him if you could print me out another receipt that I could actually read, and he offered to send it via email instead. I said that's fine as long as it works the same as a receipt and he said it does. When I ran the transaction I didn't receive an email right away. He said it might take some time give it a few minutes it'll show up. I didn't think anymore of this until A few days later after trying them on and realizing that they didn't fit properly. I went to the store in Santee to return a pair of shorts but I paid with my debit card for $30. Still have the tag on and was essentially brand new. I asked them if I can return this item I just purchased three days ago at the Rosecrans store and they explained all they can do is give me store credit back. So I explained the issue with them that I never received a receipt And that I chose an email instead because they were out of ink but as I looked at my emails I cannot find it anywhere. It seems like a never went through. Not only did Marissa, the manager, deny to help me in anyway whatsoever, But when is far as to accuse me of lying. I explain to her I have the transaction right here on my phone under my bank account that displays a debit transaction of the exact amount the shorts cost took place on the day I'm telling yo but when is far as to accuse me of lying. Maxx but also for Marshall's Old Navy gap and several other stores and I know exactly what those printers are capable of. These issues happen all the time they're not perfect machines. Mistakes constantly happen with them and I am constantly fixing them. So for her to not only call me a liar but then to feed me a lie on top of it, I was so upset I didn't even say a word I just grab my merchandise, requested her name, and walked out of the store. This store gave me terrible customer service all around from beginning to end I'm very disappointed. It's going to be very unfortunate the day I come to fix their printers here and have to speak to Marissa and ask her if she remembers me. It's one thing to neglect a customer but it's a whole diffferent matter to go out of your way to lie just to get a customer out of the store. I understand if it's store policy that they cannot complete a certain transaction no matter what the scenario is, but in the case where it's the employees fault that I don't have the proper paperwork to display to process a return and then flip it on me like it's my fault and I'm the one trying to get over on them, unacceptable. It wasn't a pride thing either, I needed some gas to get home I didn't have my wallet with me and I was depending on getting that cash. Because of Marissa's negligence I had to call a friend up who had to waste their time driving all the way out to Santee to provide me with gas money in order to get home. This should've never happened. I will no longer be doing any business with T.J. Maxx or marshals or home goods and Just so I don't have to run into this manager in the future I am going to cancel my contract I have with them as well installing/fixing their printer/registers. read more

I had an excellent experience here in August 15,2018. A couple weeks prior I had purchased some items that I needed to go to Palm Springs that had broke and needed to be returned. I didn't have everything I need for the items to be returned but Anna Lidia and Lois went above and beyond to make sure that I could return the items. They went as far as to walk around the store to find the identical items to ring up so I could bring them back. To me? This is EXCEPTIONAL customer service. They could've easily said that I couldn't return the items and that I was shit out of luck but they didn't! I went in there with the expectation of not being able to but prayed and hoped that they would be able to figure something out and they did. It's very rare these days for people to care so much about their customers like this so thank you Ana Lidia and Lois I really appreciate it. read more
