When I first moved to San Diego I had a roommate who loved GTM and went about once a month. She showed me her deals and talked about it constantly. Since then, I have been meaning to go but Santee, Chula Vista and the former Lemon grove area stores were just too far from north county. I'm just not down that far very often. Recently, I had a drs appointment not too far away so I looked to see how close it was. It was early in the day so traffic wasn't a factor. It was only 10 mnutes away. Today would finally be the day! I pulled up and got a parking spot right out front. I walked in without a cart figuring I would only get a few things which was a blessing and curse. I would have bought more with the cart but what I grabbed was cumbersome to carry. They had a tv screen when you walked in advertising their sales. The old roommate had mentioned sales and coupons so I knew to look. They have a little bit of everything, close outs from Claire's, makeup and skin products, clothing, shoes, tons of food, condiments, beverages, eggs and milk (for super cheap), dishes, cleaning products, kids stuff such as toys and clothes, electronics, pets stuff, greeting cards, furniture, you name it they likely have it. Some stuff is still a bit pricey but other items are ridiculously great deals. I wandered all the aisles and got a lot of things I needed. The lines to check out were bit long but moved relatively quickly. They have a Tuesday senior discount which may explain why it was so crowded. The staff was helpful. This place is like a garage sale for stores like Sam's Club, Costco, and maybe Sprouts? I don't know where everything comes from. You can buy single pieces of underwear incase you shat yourself. Ilike to get cans of probiotic sodas, sparkling waters, and toilet paper rolls. I buy work pants here if I can find my size, which is short and chunky. It's a work in progress. Recently I got a king size quilt comforter but it is still in the original packaging three months later. If you are not part of their coupon club you shouldn't buy anything here unless you are. The downside is you will get text messages every week from them. Although, I kind of look forward to them since I have no friends. read more

GTM has several locations but last year the lemon grove location was closed which was a bummer as it was probably their larger store and you know what that means!!! Large store more variety of items. That came to an end but I'm happy that they still have the Santee and National City locations running strong. Ok so if you ever want to find things that you never see at the regular stores or wondered what stores do to things that are still good items but didn't sale very well... well let me tell you it more than likely made it here. The items are still good, it was just people either don't know about the products, didn't want to pay the marked prices at those stores, or maybe it was taking up too much room with the quantity... whatever the reason it made it GTM Im grateful!!! It allows consumers to get them at marked down prices. They have everything from clothing, furniture, electronics, household supplies, personal supplies, auto supplies, and food/snack items and so much more. I came here to buy some luggage but they were limited this visit. The staff however were very friendly and I had very welcoming visit. The store was well organized, atmosphere was lite up brightly, and clean. I didn't find the luggage I needed but I walked out with so many healthy drinks and snacks that I thought were amazingly priced. If you come make sure you ask to sign up for their discounts by giving them your phone number. They always have coupons in the app or associated with your phone number to get extra discounts off. Rude employee in the dressing room area. My mom was having an emergency and needed me to stand in front of the bathroom door because there are NO locks on the door. I was carrying a pair of $9 jeans just feet away from the dressing room. I was not inside the bathroom, but outside the door checking on my elderly mother. The employee lady yelled, " did you not see our big sign on the wall? No merchandise beyond this point!" She huffed and puffed like a 2 year old. I calmly explained I was not in the bathroom, I was feet from the sign checking on my mother and making sure nobody walked in on her because there were no locks on the door. She rolled her eyes at me. I put back the jeans and will take my business elsewhere. The store was filthy. There was expired merchandise on the shelves. I am in the customer service business. If I ever spoke to a customer like she spoke to me, I would be written up or fired. read more

So many of the food items ate expired, many well past the expiration dates. While this is okay for some items, many are spoiled. GTM should do away with theIr greedy nature and simply throw many things away. Unethical business practices abound here. read more

Jose M. was extremely rude & unhelpful. I was making a return, so I put the item with its receipt on the glass counter. As I was looking at items inside the glass counter, I looked back at my receipt and item to find the receipt missing. I told him I placed the receipt on top of the counter with the item I am returning and he completely denied seeing the receipt. There was no one around, and he was the only employee at the counter. I checked everywhere and went around the store several times and there was absolutely nothing. It was a slow day with the store almost empty so it would've been very easy to find the receipt if he didn't take it. I believe he took the receipt and hid it so he doesn't have to go through the process of making a return. Extremely deceitful and unprofessional. He ended up going on break as I was looking for my receipt. Which was also extremely rude and showed that he was hiding something or avoiding the return. I've never encountered an employee this rude. I am 100% sure if they were to go over the camera footage that day, they would see him taking my receipt. read more

Downgrade again (2022 update). There are four reasons why GTM isn't worth it anymore. As a long time shopper of GTM I've experienced the gold rush of epic deals. But now it's just a place that sells unwanted and returned goods at a slight discount. You have to work coupons to get good deals here. And even then it's still not amazing discounts. I did find a few interesting hot sauces on my last visit and found a $60 wall decor for $20 (15 after coupon) but it wasn't enough to justify coming here on a regular basis expecially with gas prices being so high. - The good deals have long since evaporated, expecially when it comes to Costco stuff. Only 20% off normal Costco prices plus they're mostly returned items that are missing their boxes etc etc. - Men's clothing has been reduced to three racks of moslty oddball sizes.. - High percentage of their food items are expired. If you can't find an expiration date don't buy it. Note that sometimes they put the price sticker over the expiration date. - Lack of inventory management and idiotic POS system that requires cashiers to scroll through your entire receipt to manually find items and discount them one at a time. That's a basic efficiency failure that causes long lines. TIP: Employees often hide the best stuff in the store behind things until they're ready to buy it for themselves. I found one such "honey hole" on my last trip. read more

I have been going to GTM Santee for years. In recent years customer service has become something different. 1. Make sure the item you are purchasing has a tag. 2. Do not believe if the cashier says, it is ok. We will price similar item. If you decide to return the item, (for whatever reason) they will not refund you your money easily. The young lady at the customer service counter will not believe anything you present to her. The undeserving negative treatment you will get is beyond. She will ask you to speak to a manager who has unpredictable schedule so you can call or come to the store until you give up. 3. I heard about this store selling Costco branded returns. I checked in and although they had merchandise it wasn't much in regard to anything I was looking for. I am always surprised at how many of my friends have never been to this store. It is an AMAZING place to shop for anyone who loves a good deal on everyday products, or those who love a good ole fashioned treasure hunt. You can walk in needing nothing, but will probably walk out with something, whether it be a $0.79 car air freshener, or a LAZBOY dog sofa (lol). For those new to the store, all the items they sell are priced at least 15% below the retail price (from my own personal experiences shopping there) & with coupons stacked on top, you can easily buy something here for 50% or more off retail. ITEMS THEY CARRY: To give you a general idea, I have seen a lot of items that were previously sold at Sprouts, Costco, Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens. Many are open box/repackaged /returned products so buy with caution, though there is return policy. -1 aisle of dog/pet items including lots of bags of kibble -A large area of assorted furniture, including rugs, lighting fixtures, bar stools, sofas, coffee tables, and sometimes even ping pong tables/shuffle board tables/game tables -Kitchen appliances including Panasonic microwaves, air fryers, grills, etc. -Home fixtures including Kohler kitchen faucet/sinks, toilets, lights, etc. -A wall of auto supplies including air fresheners, windshield wipers, etc. -Office supplies, beauty & skin care products, toys, food & drinks -VERY LARGE selection of women's & men's clothing including shoes, handbags & suitcases -Seasonal decor items, very likely from the previous year. Right now, they're clearing out their Christmas inventory & everything is 75% off. Individual rolls of gift wrap are $0.25! It's practically free. PRO TIPS: -Show them the coupon from the GTM website on your phone (no need to print it out) at checkout. Some cashiers will just automatically scan the coupon at the register & apply it without you even showing them. The coupons normally apply to regular-priced items. -Sign up for their free rewards program to collect points to earn more coupons. This is one of my favorite locations, okay who am I kidding I love all the GTM locations. I feel like each location I am guaranteed to find specific items I am looking for specifically. This one use to be bigger than the lemon grove location but now it is about the same or a little smaller than lemon grove. The clothing section seems much better for women and men. I use to find Calvin Klein undies for munchkin here and puma shoes etc. Lately it hasn't been as packed as the other locations which has been nice when shopping. Getting paper supplies, garbage bags is always cheaper especially when they do their 20%-30% off coupons when compared to Costco. Staff is always nice and typically efficient at the register when marking all the dealios they do for items on sale as it is the cashier responsibility. read more

Used to like coming to this store occasionally, if you have time and patience to look around. But lately there are no bargains to be found! Costco returns are priced pretty much the same as they are at Costco!! Why would I buy here when the items are already customer returns with open boxes/possibly parts missing/ damaged, etc. when I can buy at Costco for the same price and have no problem returning if needed? The majority of the other merchandise here seems to be low quality items, and not at any great discount. I have had much better luck finding clothes, pots and pans and even patio furniture of a higher quality and at lower prices at Marshalls and TJ Maxx, and don't have to contend with the uncomfortably hot store, crowded aisles and slow checkout lanes. The other issue I have had lately concerns the phone app... I am 110% positive I had numerous 30% off and 20% off coupons saved up in my account/phone app due to years of purchases and 'saving' those earned coupons to use on a big ticket item. A month ago when I was checking out, I decided to go ahead and start using the discounts I had earned on smaller ticket items, such as bedding. I asked the cashier to use 2 of my 20% off coupons on 2 items of bedding, and he told me I did not have any 20% or 30% coupons available on my account. I was beyond shocked, and speechless. EVERY single time I had been checking out at GTM in the year prior, I was always told I had MULTIPLE 20% off and 30% off coupons, and was asked if I wanted to use any. I always declined, thinking I would save them for a future furniture purchase. So when I decide to finally start using them, they are no longer there. Completely disappeared, have no coupons linked to my account at all. Go figure. I even asked the cashier if they expire or what could have happened to them since I am more than positive I had multiple discounts on my account waiting to be used, and was just met with a shrug. My first time here, it's about 40 minutes from my house & I had been wanting to check it out. A friend bought some things for their super cute apartment & was excited to explore a new store . It's like Ross/Big Lots & Dollar store had a baby & this is the store. Kind of hard to explain, you will have to experience it yourself & make up your own mind. Aloe water, infomercial gadgets, and paternity tests. Oh my! If you've shopped at places like HomeGoods, Marshalls, Ross, or TJ Maxx, then GTM is basically 5 the Costco version (minus the membership card) of everything under one roof, with their Kirkland brand making an occasional appearance among the other discounted goods and merchandise. Not everything is a great value, but you might find something if you pay attention. I usually go with lowered shopper expectations because I have no idea where some of the unfamiliar random sundries, clothing, or electronics stuff comes from. Not everything on sale are overstock, seasonal, or close outs from any Costco store I've visited. It's rare, but I've gotten lucky with sneakers and threads that are decent and actually fit. As luck would have it, I found a $15 fleece lined softshell jacket for a work trip to Colorado. Just in time, because I left summery SoCal for seasonally early snow showers in October and frosty 30 degree temps. I'm so glad I didn't have to pay full retail for a new winter jacket since I am accustomed to mild 60s-70s winters with mostly sunny skies (LOL sorry, not sorry). There are some rare gems to be discovered, so a visit to GTM can be kinda like a treasure hunt. Remember to review their online coupons or use your Fivestars Rewards at the checkout line. During a weekend at Santee lakes we had some time to kill. It was blazing hot outside and kids needed a break from the sun. We played cards inside the AC cabin but then needed to get out (and it was still too hot).... I decided I wanted to go to GTM...it had been a while. kids groaned and moaned but once we got in they ended up having so much fun! I got a bunch of cans of sparkling water (we ran out at the cabin)... my daughter loaded up of room decor and costumes for our pup. my son was wowed by some black water that he had wanted before (he said it was $4 at Vons but $1.50 here). yup...it was some good family fun! you never know what fun things you will find here! read more

This is such a great store, and always has been! You never know what you are going to find there, so you have to go in with an open mind and be ready to bargain hunt! I have never once had an issue here and I have been shopping here regularly for about 15 years! The coupons are great, and the Santee location is the best one! Even though some products are past their expiration date, that little date does not mean the food is no longer any good....common sense. Oh man.. this place is something else. I've never heard of GTM and my friend told me about it so we decided to go. Okay.. So I knew this is a discounted type of store, but damn - its a DISCOUNT store. It was fairly crowded when I came here and it was fairly messy. Found some good deals on some novelty snacks but that's about it. It's like a grocery outlet but wayyyyyy messy. I love me some discounted stuff but this was definitely disappointed. Lastly I literally wood in line for 20iah minutes.. the cashiers have to type the prices manually (no scanners) so this took way longer. read more

I was looking for a couch and found an amazing electric loveseat for $600...which also I was able to use my 30% discount !!! Purchased and we where picking it up the next day...When we went through to the pick up line we noticed the the loveseat had a battery and GILBERT and CHRIS made sure to plug it in and try it out even before it was out of the back room...We'll we turned to our truck and noticed it was to small and we notice the loveseat was little bit heavier then we prepared for...GILBERT OFFERED to load it in his truck...mind you they do not deliver....He was absolutely amazing and so helpful! Honestly, this location isn't worth one star. It's better than that. But I am rating them this low because it's probably the only way they'll pay attention. YOU NEED SOME A/C IN YOUR STORE! I was drenched in sweat shopping there. This isn't some secret either... Management is quite aware this is an issue for the customers and workers alike. This comes up in their company meetings. And you can see other customers sweating - it's not just me although I probably am affected by the heat more. Take a cue, it's too damn hot! On a separate note, the dressing room attendant restricted to me to items I had not tried on yet even though I was below the maximum number of items allowed in the room. She said she would hold them for me since I already tried them on and I was going to buy them. Instead they were restocked by another associate who didn't know she was holding them. Wish they'd just leave me alone and let me take them inside with me instead of being a pain in the ***. Like I said, I didn't exceed the number of items I was allowed to take in the room anyway. The line situation is always a mess. I tried to hop to faster lines. I eventually ended up behind three customers. The first guy was originally BEHIND me in line. So you're probably best just staying put in case they open a new line and call you first. It never fails that the customer ahead of you has something isn't going to ring up, is missing a price ticket, someone's gift card doesn't scan, and so on. You can't predict how fast it's going to go but you can definitely count on "fast" not being part of that process. I am normally not that impatient in line. But when it's a thousand degrees inside I get a little cranky. Overall, the last two trips have been a bad shopping experience outside of the low prices for items that I paid. It's a hot mess with heavy emphasis on HOT. At least the prices are low. I found out today that I have spent over $500 total since shopping there since the very beginning. I am shocked. We took our kids from another State to GTM. They were amazed at the selection of so many items. We all ended up getting a few things. However, there was one checker that moved incredibly slow. She seemed unaware of the line and we divided up and went to other lines and we were all out before the lady in front of us . My husband even went to a checker in the electronic dept and took care of him in 30secs The slow checker was on the north end near the door. The young man at the South end was faster. I realize they don't make anymore money working fast but it would be so much better for the customers, especially with small children to feel that their time is valuable too. read more

Overpriced and messy This place is messy, a bit smelly and a lot overpriced. I wouldn't say everything is, but if you don't know price points, you may end up paying more than the actual store. Yes, some are practically 75% off, but then you also come across packages that are opened and taped back as their inventory or they're about to expire or is past their "best by" (which isn't technically expired), but not as fresh. I just can't justify shopping here when you're probably better off going to dollarstore or wait for an item to go on sale at a regular grocery. Value can be great which is why I'm giving 2 stars but their return policy is awful. Purchased a few utility racks. Didn't have a truck for transport and didn't pick them up in the window of time, which is my fault. Instead of the money going back to your card since I never received any items and they resold my purchase, you have to go in for the return. Which is fine, I went in and spoke to the service counter. What is irritating is they will tell you, we need to verify you didn't take the items and we need 5-7 days to verify. Still wasn't enough to be upsetting. Get the call, okay we have verified. You can come for your money back. I forget and don't come back for almost 2 weeks. I go back a 3 rd time, sorry no manager. We don't know what your talking about. You need a a manger present. Still not upset. Go back today, for a 4th time. Called the day before we will have a manager present tomorrow. Go in have the picture of the receipt on my phone. Show the service counter lady. You need a store manager for the refund. WHAT!? Okay we'll I called and the lady said a manager would be here. We only have key holders the store manager isn't her till tomorrow after 12:30. I can't help you. Now I'm pissed. I have wasted my time and gas 3 trips to get a refund and will have to go back again in person to get my $150 back. It's is absurd what they can do to not give you a refund, sounds borderline illegal. It's like they want to make it as hard as possible so you forget and they keep your money. read more
