Shopping in San Diego, California... I was early for dinner, so I had some time to walk across the parking lot to visit Five Below. I learned about this chain (that we don't have in Hawaii) from Yelpers in Los Angeles. The merchandise (costing five dollars and less, in general) is geared towards the younger generation because they have cute merchandise (like stickers and bag charms), candy, books for adolescents, and items for dorm rooms. I saw many Hello Kitty things... and Snoopy... and Stitch! It was so challenging to resist! First time entering this store in Mira Mesa. It's like shopping at Daiso. You'd pick up and purchase items you might not necessarily on your shopping list. It's perfect if you need little toys or candy or items for a kid's birthday party or a grab bag or if you have time to browse on a Sunday morning. Five Below is very much like your local dollar store. The store has a wide selection of items, but a lot of them are low-quality, cheaply made items. Having said that, you can occasionally find great deals here. I had been wanting a Disney Funko Pop advent calendar and everywhere I checked wanted $50 plus for the set. I found it here for $25. So it's worth checking out often, you never know what you might find. The store is normally well kept and clean. My only issue with this location is the integrity of the staff. Every time I go to checkout and I am paying using my debit card, there is a Customer Service survey that pops up on the credit card terminal. Every time, the employee turns the terminal to themselves, answers the question with the top rating, and then turns it back over to me to finish my purchase. I just find this to be very disappointing that they have taken away my option to leave a true and honest rating. read more

I wasn't too impressed with Five Below. The selection just wasn't as appealing as I thought. However, this is a good option for people who live too far from a Daiso. But I do recommend Five Below over nearby Dollar Tree because the store looks more organized and cleaner. I found the candy to be overpriced. There are some casual clothing that looked like pretty nice material for such a low price. In summary, I felt the things sold at Five Below were not as cutesy as Daiso, but still better quality and selection than the Dollar Tree. read more

I love the honest pricing here! When was the last time .99 city actually sold anything for .99 cents? Everything here is five bucks and under (verified). If you're looking for fun thing for kids then Five Below is THE place to go..I came during their summer season and this place was full of beach and pool toys. All priced $5 or less. During my first visit to Five Below I found the store to be refreshing; wide aisles, well-organized and brightly lit. After difficult quick trip to another store sifting through things that are about $1, I was able to pickup everything else I needed here to fill the Easter "baskets" for the kids in my life for $5 and under: sidewalk chalk in assorted colors, bubble wands, stickers, multiple variations of slime, a voice-changing toy megaphone and even single serve Rice Crispy Treats. They have baskets that can be carried or dragged along behind you like a wagon. By the end of my visit I was dragging my cart full of stuff towards the registers! I hated shopping before the pandemic and I hate it even more now with all the safety precautions. So I can appreciate the convenience of this store to help me get things done with fewer trips. I'm sure to be back when I need more stuff...just hopefully not too soon. read more

You get Five Below! Open for the last couple of months, I went there a couple of weeks ago to see what the hubbub was about. Five Below is mostly geared towards high-school and college students; everything in the store is about $5 or less (hence the name Five Below). It's not a dollar store, but more like a millennial and younger styled place. Lots of makeup and affordable fashion options for the preteens and college-aged ladies, a healthy smartphone-accessory aisle (a ten-foot Apple lightning cable? Yes, please!), and various snacks and drinks to keep everyone functioning... these are some of the various items Five Below carries. While I ended up walking out with a couple of bags of Welch's Fruit Snacks and dried figs for my desk, I was chagrined to see that instant ramen wasn't sold here; one would think that as Five Below is marketed for the younger folks in high school and college, they'd carry it! The store itself has that brand-new gloss to it, and the interior ambiance made me feel like I was in a Forever 21 or Hot Topic (minus the risque elements). The store itself is big and there's lots to look at. Toys, coloring books, novels, house decor and even electronics. Everything is typically under ten dollars. It is hard to walk out empty-handed however, it's usually just a single cashier which can hold things up on the frontend; I went in for return, I waited 17 minutes for a manager. When the manager came up, I was told I could only do an exchange since I didn't have the original receipt. She mentioned that this was her being nice because the other manager wouldn't typically help me without a receipt, period. I asked if it was possible to put on a giftcard, because honestly, I wanted to leave after waiting for so long. She then said "well come back with time and find me." I didn't want to deal with an extra attitude a different day so I look the L and went back in. I had no idea that Five Below even opened in San Diego! I was in the plaza when I noticed this new store! I've only been to a Five Below location once before in the L.A. area. Five Below is just as the name suggests, everything is $5 or below. They even carry Spalding basketballs for $5! The cool items that they had were sports items for cheap! They had a Lakers backpack and Chargers backpack for $5, too bad those aren't my teams LOL. My favorite thing they have here are their screen tees! I picked up one just for fun. I also got a resistance band which I was happy about because mine got ruined not too long ago. The one thing I didn't like was their dried mango. It's a rather large pouch but the mango was super hard, like a doggy biscuit. The package said it was supposed to be "soft & juicy" lol I'd pass on that one next time. Do NOT go to this store! Horrible attitude by the lady at the front of the store while I was checking out at 10:30she was so mean she ruined my whole day! If you don't like wheee you work then quit! Don't bother asking them a question either they'll tell you that the item is in the back of the store to oh it's in the front of the store! They both looked miserable to work there! I absolutely love Five Below. Everything is $5.00 and below. I first saw the location in Los Angeles. So glad that they have one here. I ended up buying a Wet and Wild highlighter. It was $5.00! I couldn't resist. I do like the Wet and Wild brand on certain things. I also bought some stuff for my daughter. She really enjoyed this store as much as I did. They carry snacks, candy, sodas, makeup, electronics, shirts to random stuff. There's enough room to walk around. I like how everything was organized and labeled. Plenty to choose from. You can pick random last minute items here. Such a cool store. Plenty of parking up front. They take credit cards here. A definite plus. I didn't purchase a bag because it's 10 cents for a bag. I heard all the hype about this store and had to check it out for myself. It is literally a love child between a 3 way with dollar tree, 99 cent store and Walmart. It's very colorful and bright inside. I like the signage it makes it easy to spot sections easily. I was hoping for more selection of gift wrapping paper but they only had two rolls. But they made up for that with really cute party decor and gift bags. Huge selection of greeting cards. The candy section is gigantic and you get a 2lb bag of candy for $5! Then it continues with electronics cells phone cases, Bluetooth speakers, chargers, etc it goes on. They also had a makeup and beauty section. A small section for clothes and t shirts. This store is crazy it has a bit of everything! Then the snack and food section. You can buy bags of chips or other snack items. I walked out with an adult spring themed coloring book with 2 packs of colored pencils for $6! It's my new way to de-stress. Overall thoughts, items are not quality obviously but if you don't care then the deals are great on some items. I don't feel everything was a bargain but most of it is. I wandered in here while I was at Target, Sprouts, and Michael's...I was seriously not expecting to pick up so many items!!! Location: Off Mira Mesa Blvd. across from Target (if you don't know where that is, I'm sorry). Next door to Michael's and BevMo. And a stones throw from Sprouts and Bed Bath and Beyond. It's basically the Bermuda Triangle for most moms I know. What is this place? I had no idea what this place was. Five below what? I thought maybe they sold ice cream. Yeah, I'm an idiot. It's a $5 and below store! Amazing! So, I went in once I saw bins of basketballs and play yard balls outside with $5 sign. This ended up being a crazy trip. I bought my little guy 3 different balls for Christmas for $15. They have a bunch of amazing board and card games, perfect for road trips and stocking stuffers. I got a fake little plant for my bookshelf. Looking for some small hand weights to workout? They have them there!!!! It's a random little spot full of really cool stuff for under $5. We came in while we were waiting for our table at KBBQ in the same shopping center and didn't expect to find so many things! They have a great selection of toys, candies, junk food, and clothing. Well Date of Visit: January 21 , 2020 and I was Cruising the Mira Mesa Mall which was getting redone and I Saw this store Five Below and was wondering what it's all about. So I walk right in and there were two workers working. So I took a tour of this store and look around. Now what I notice was that it is very similar to Dollar Tree and the 99 Cents Store . Carry pretty much the same things but Five Below has a little more higher end toys and collectibles. Such as Star Wars figures and DC Figures plus Hot Wheels to . Also they carry exercise equipment and things you might need for exercise. Plus lots of Candy here also . Another thing I notice was they have quite a selection of Greeting Cards to . Plus this store was fairly clean also . It's your typical Style Dollar Tree Store but everything is below 5 Dollars . Now as for Parking no Problem !! Lots of Space and it is located right next to the Sprouts Grocery Store in the Mira Mesa Mall . Overall A Pretty Darn cool store and I shall return and shop agaIn !!! read more

I had never heard of this particular chain of stores until this example popped up in Mira Mesa. I had no clue what to expect as to the type of store it would be and my initial guess was that it was going to be a grocery store that specialized in frozen food! "Five below" sounded cool temperature wise in any case, and it was a warmer summer day that brought us to here. Yeah, it's not a grocery store specializing in frozen foods. Although with the explosion of grocery stores in Mira Mesa I still contend my guess was a reasonable one. It's a discount store. Below 5 dollars. Along the lines of 99 Cents only, Dollar Tree and the Japanese entry Daiso. Though, compared to those, there were less along the lines of food, groceries and housewares, and more about knickknacks and electronics. I'm not a huge fan of these stores in particular seeing how most of the time, I prefer an item that is built to last and am willing to pay more for it. Still, they are aiming for a certain demographic and I can't fault them for that. The store is neat, stocked and certainly there was a lot of variety to see and consider. A mental note has been made for one more place to check for small, affordable items. read more

Clean store, nice selection, no cashiers. Workers but zero cashiers, it is completely self checkout. Having toddlers and ringing out your own items is not convenient or ideal. It's extremely uncomfortable when a couple workers are just standing there chatting away and another worker just standing there staring at you while you are completely stressed trying to juggle everything. read more

Came here for the first time to look for decoration for my cubicle at my new job. My sister and I were greeted upon entering, which was nice. We walked around and found some pretty cute stuff for a good price. As we made our way to check out, 2 young ladies were at the cashier. One of them was helping another customer so I was ready to be helped by the other young lady. She stared at me and said to her coworker, "I'm going to take my lunch break". I was quite appalled by this because she clearly saw me but chose to avoid her responsibilities to the customers. I had to wait for the one cashier who was working hard to tame the line. Today I shopped at this Mira Mesa location store# 1321. Upon checkout the cashier was trying to multitask by ringing me up and answering the phone at same time. Cashier handed me my receipt and plastic bags with all my items and was on my way only to realize later that 2 of the items I bought was never even given to me. As I was frustrated and inconveniently returning back to the store I was thinking how many times this cashier probably did this to other customers or how frequent this must happen ? Spoke to the manager "SAMARI" who gave me the items and was NOT apologetic for my inconvenience or their cashiers forgetfulness. read more

My kids and I love Five Below but Every time I buy from this store an item that I paid for is not inside the plastic bag.

I went to five below on October 11. First time at the store. I walk in and I was amazed at how much stuff the store had, I then notice that there is carts I try to take one out and it got stuck, then the guy at the register took my drink without saying anything handed me my drink and pushed the cart in and yelled at me saying "stop and go away". That was a little harsh. He pushed the cart in and something fell and he had the audacity to blame me and say "she broke it" I was starting to get annoyed with his customer service. Me and my cousin then start roaming around to see what stuff they have and on the way out the door got a little jammed and she looked at me and the guy yelled at my cousin saying "it says push like come on". In my opinion that is the worst customer service I have ever had not even the dollar store or 99 have that type of service. I was expecting good service like don't get me wrong the store is amazing just the employee was to harsh on me and my cousin.The attitude and sass was too much never going there again read more
