Dollar Trees really aint what it used to be anymore. This one still had some charm left. Mostly because it wasn't all bare shelves (still a fair amount though) and all the employees didn't look like they absolutely hate themselves for working here (they weren't thrilled, but didn't look miserable), as others do at other locations. Some of the items you'd expect to be in stock, weren't. There werent a ton of items thrown just in any place which I'd have to shoutout the staff who are vigilant and constantly putting things back after people throw them anywhere. I feel like this location is bigger than the others I have visited in the past. Check out line was pretty long but people were happy to wait and chat with one another. Eventually another cashier came along and the line moved SUPERRRR quick! Ended up with a few items and I was happy with the selection and the value I spent for it. read more

Went in to just buy 2 gift bags and tape....it went fine until i was at the register. I didn't realize until it was already paid for. That the cashier lady charged me for a bag fee even though I only use the gift bag to hold all my items in. I told her I don't need a bag. She put the items in the larger gift bag i purchased knowing I didn't need one. Not sure if it was a mistake or something they do where they sneak in a bag fee despite saying no I didn't need a bag. I don't mind giving them $.10 for the bag, but if you're gonna ask, at least listen and do something like that correctly or double check with the customer, I still love the store. I went recently and they had a good selection of products to choose from. They had everything I was looking for when I went and the aisles were for the most part recovered and clean. It's a pretty big store as well so I think they have room for more product than the other dollar trees. The store was pretty quiet when I went so not a lot going on which is nice. The cashier also opened up another register when they noticed the line building up a little so that was great! Overall, I had a good experience and will most likely come back. read more

This location is still an embarrassment to the chain. We've been to and seen other stores that look neat and clean and this one is like a bratty kid's bedroom who refuses to clean up. The one star is for two people: the young man we encountered working in the toy section, which we all can imagine would be difficult to keep neat because of unruly or undisciplined children. However, based on the rest of the store, it appears the parents/adults are more likely to be the culprits of the mess. This young man was busy organizing the action figures, putting them together by genre - Marvel, Paw Patrol, etc. He had a mountain to climb but was doing a great job! And Misti, our cashier, was very pleasant and friendly - props to her too! As for the rest of the store... well, not so much. For example, the headbands, hair accessories, etc. were in piles at the bottom of the display. And the handyman section with tools, etc. had tons of items strewn about that didn't belong in that area. My mom even commented, "Why don't they hire someone to put this stuff back where it belongs?" Umm... yeah... aren't those called employees? She further noted, "Sometimes I think they just don't care." Could that be the real crux of the problem? For me, it makes it hard to want to be in that store. And, honestly, I don't usually go to this location. I only went because my Mom asked. We'll both think twice before going again. read more

Not a bad little 99-cent style store at all. Didn't try to shop right at closing time, and didn't run into any perverts. When you first enter this smallish, but very well-stocked store, look up. Enjoy the dozens of helium-filled balloons which escaped their captivity and now hover like geosynchronous satellites. Many shapes, many colors, but I digress. I almost always find what I'm looking for and usually find more than that. I don't get over to this part of the shopping center often, but when I do, I always pop in to see what's new. I like to come here to feel like I am incredibly wealthy. I am pretty sure in the end I don't use half the stuff I actually buy here, but when the check is already gone within 10 minutes, coming to the dollar store is a moral boost There is always the weird, heavier set cashier guy that is works there. I am not sure if he is just a painfully uber nerd, or a serial killer in the making, but for the most part he is harmless and likes to chat you up sometimes. I like to come here for the holidays, especially Halloween. They normally have a nice array of decorations for people on a budget. The dollar tree has a bit of everything that you need. They do carry some great name brand items so it is always worth looking at. I always come to the dollar tree for super random stuff. I always get picture frames here for simple pictures. Also, this is super random, but Aim whitening toothpaste from here is amazing at cleaning white sneakers. I always used it on my cheerleading sneakers to get the coloring of the track off of them. I also like to come here to fill Adam's stocking every Christmas. How can you go wrong with a place that carries everything for a dollar? I started coming here recently and I love it. Some stores like this are in sketchy areas but Grossmont Center is always right on and I feel safe shopping here. This particular store has a huge party section (anything you need for any kind of celebration) and cleaning section (detergent, winded, comet, brooms, etc). As a (broke) preschool teacher, I have a greater appreciation for families in lower socioeconomic status. I understand what it is like to not be able to buy your children every toy and cool thing that they describe or you know would be a cool learning tool but thanks to financial restrictions you're left to think of something else. With the end of the school year approaching, I found myself in this dilemma and luckily Dollar Tree was the answer. The Dollar Tree is like Shell Silverstein's "The Giving Tree." Oh, teacher references..... Stretching a small budget to accommodate twenty three children who deserve the world is a very difficult task. Upon entering the store I felt a lot better and it took me a while to realize that everything really is "only a dollar." This put me at filling my cart with some outrageous selections. Plastic sand buckets, pool noodles, pencils, stickers, spider man, princess characters, footballs, etc. Dollar Tree has got your back. Keep in mind that the quality of a lot of the items is really "dollar quality" only. And I mean that by their candy selections. Even at my most sugar-high craved of youth I wouldn't have touched half of the stuff on the shelf. Anyways.... Once clearing all the unnecessary bulk out of the cart I settled on some adorable large but perfect for sleeping next to teddy bears with a few bags of Tootsie pops to be attached somehow to the bear with a caring little message. I must have looked like a freak stacking furry animal after another on the checkout conveyor but I think everyone caught on that I did not in fact have twenty three biological children, just temporaries. The total turned out to be about 25 bucks. AWESOME. Hours of bear and candy assembly later, the kids squealed with joy over their two dollar each gifts. This is proof that no little child can tell the difference over something purchased at Toys R Us vs. the Dollar Tree store. It's the love and thoughtfulness behind them. Parents and teachers need to take advantage of this before the children grow far too old and recognize that it's not top notch. Now, upon returning a few bears, yes, twelve kids out of twenty three showed up on the actual day of gift giving. I felt pretty "cheap" taking things back to the dollar store, but as I emphasized before I am a broke preschool teacher and anything helps. Sadly, Dollar Tree did not have my back for this. Store credit only was their curse. So back I was sent into the imported overseas selections to find some items to make up for my poor judgement of attendance numbers on the last day. Swung by Dollar Tree to pick up a few items for a Carnival themed birthday party. Man, this Dollar Tree IS the place to go! This Dollar Tree although is a bit small, but have a lot of hidden gem items in there if you're willing to look and concentrate when you walk down the aisles. You can find anything at Dollar Tree. Toys, coloring books, party items, etc for a good, and affordable price. There's plenty of parking spaces but this Dollar Tree closes at 8:30 pm while the one next to Walmart at Aero Drive, Mission Valley area closes at 9:00 pm. Just FYI. But all Dollar Trees are awesome! Who needs to buy expensive kitchen utensils when you can get them at Dollar Tree or just Napkins, small household items in general. read more

This review is mainly for one of the cashiers named Anne Marie. A few customers in front of me were having a conversation with her and it's so refreshing to see someone have such lively, positive personality at her job. She mentioned that she's only a seasonal employee for now, but I hope they keep her and take care of her at this job so she can continue loving it, because it really shows. I like stuff that's a $1... and everything there is truly a $1. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't purchase certain things there, seeing as for quality sake you get what you pay for. But a toothbrush for my toddler that sticks things places i don't want to know anything about... dollar tree is as good as anywhere. You must go there with a open mind and a few minutes to peel and pry through some things, but Ive never left there without spending at least 15 bucks. But as a mom on a budget... buying a few things here and there saves me some money. I left work 20 minutes early to make it to Dollar Tree before 9pm, the listed closing time, to buy a balloon for my 2 year olds birthday. Had to work all day and had no opportunities to get a helium filled balloon. Dollar Tree is my go to place for balloons. I park right in front at 8:50pm. I see people trying to enter the store through the front entrance but it doesn't open automatically. I then see them walk through the exit to the left which is wide open. I walk up to the entrance and I see that the front door is indeed locked. I look at my phone and is 8:52pm. Im kinda pissed at myself that I missed the closing time but i accept it, giving the the store the benefit of doubt that its 9pm and they are closed. At this point I just said to myself that I'll just look through the windows and see if they have the balloon that I was looking for so I would just go to the store in the morning and buy it. I'm right next to the open exit door outside the store looking at the balloons that are on the wall. i couldn't quite see all the balloon designs they had since they are on the wall facing the store. i take a step into the store and i hear one of the workers announce over the intercom that the store closes in 5 minutes. I said to myself, cool! I can by the balloon and not have to go in the morning. As I step completely into the store, the girl at the register tells me, "we're closed". Now my irritation is aimed at the store because I know now that this store isn't closed yet they have had the front doors locked for at least the past 5 minutes. I tell the girl, your co worker just announced over the intercom that you close in 5 minutes but your front doors are already locked, so which is it? If ithe store is still open, can i come in? She says "yeah i guess!" I look at the balloons but now I'm just too pissed to give this store my business, even if its only for a dollar or two tonight. In my line of work, i spend anywhere between 4 to 6 thousand dollars a year at dollar trees along with over a dozen other business partners who each spend about the same, individually. Two, 1 dollar balloons and closing the store earlier that its supposed to are the reasons I will consider taking business elsewhere for our company. I have worked retail and in the food service industry in the past so i completely understand wanting to go home on a weekend night as soon as possible but locking the front doors early is simply not an option. Work is work and If i didn't like it, it was up to me to not work there. If I am to stay there, I follow business protocol. According to the website and the sign on the door, this store closes at 9:00pm. However, a little earlier than 10 minutes to 9:00, myself and two other random customers were left waving outside the locked door to get the worker's attention. He yelled at us that they were closed. It was so annoying to drive all the way there just to be turned away because somebody wanted to get off work a little earlier. I won't be making that mistake again. read more

I love the Dollar Tree! This is my favorite store. I gave it 3 stars because the restroom needs some serious work and the management is not the best. The store is always clean and well stocked and the checkers are very pleasant and helpful. Management needs to pay attention to the fact that the lines are long and to get someone else to work a register. I have been there several times when the line was halfway down the isle with only one register open and it took several minutes before another register was opened. The restroom is not the cleanest and the first stale has been out of order for a long time. There is never any paper towel to dry your hands with. Would prefer not to have to use but when you have to go you have to go! My favorite thing to purchase are the cards. They are Hallmark!!!! Where can you buy such nice cards for 50 cents or a dollar?! My Mom and I stock up on all kinds of cards and purchase our birthday, anniversary, etc. cards for the year here. It is also a great stocking stuffer store. I will pick things up throughout the year as I see them. This store is by far the best. It has so much room and lots of stuff.
