My friend and I made appointments looking to get a spa pedicure for her and a polish change for me. While we were both very impressed with the decor and massage chairs our service was less than perfect. We both work in the service industry and know what it's like to be pampered and to pamper someone else. While they weren't rude the technicians were rushed by the lady in charge. My friend was really disappointed in her polish job as well as the massage. I literally watched her half-ass massage and the technician make her hold her own feet up during the massage. And her polish was too thin and overlapped all over her cuticles. I waited a good 30 minutes to have my feet worked on (which is not at all an issue as I was very relaxed) but I was surprised they didn't offer to soak my feet while I sat in the chair. I would have ran the water myself. I thought it was weird to have my feet sit in an empty cold tub for over 30 minutes. My polish change was adequate enough until when she was putting on my flip flops she made a huge gash in my big toe and tried to rush me out before I saw it. Once I pointed it out she slapped a blob of more polish on my toe and it was still pretty messed up looking. My polish I had on before her polish job would have looked better than what I left with. While I believe that this is a very sanitary place to go we both could have paid half the price and left with better looking toes anywhere else. This is the best nail salon in town. Not only do they do a great job (one of the best pedicures and dip manicures I've received) the place is so peaceful. I usually walk out relaxed feeling like I went to the spa. The owner, Michelle, does a great job keeping it that way. It's not overly crowded. It's very clean. Her staff is very consistent and very nice. I've been going here for years now, religiously, and won't go anywhere else. Also being able to call and text for an appointment is excellent. read more

I can't speak for the waxing services, but the manicure I got here the other day was one of the best I've ever had. The salon is clean, comfortable, and well-furnished, and everyone on the staff was refreshingly friendly. My manicure included a full massage with warm towels (definitely above and beyond) and at $15 was very comparable to other salons I've been to that weren't nearly as nice. My girlfriend got a pedicure and said it was fantastic - from the massage chair to the full foot/lower leg massage from the technician, she looked extremely relaxed afterward! :) I'm already looking for my next excuse to get a little pamperin' at Hoa. read more

I called to book the backroom for my best friends bridal shower/pedis about a month in advance. My contact was fairly responsive at getting me the information I needed. I can say this was one of the best experiences I've had with getting my nails done at the salon. Typically I don't pamper myself with these things but whatever top coat they use, it definitely is unchippable. My toes looked fresh even 3 months of getting them done! I LOVE this place. Very reasonable prices for really attentive and professional services. I reserved the party room for myself and bridal party the day before my wedding, we I think up to 6 people can have mani/pedi's at one time, with a couch for others and space to put food/drinks/snacks. My mum put on a little brunch for everyone and the staff were great at helping to clear up afterward. I had a broken nail a couple of days before this which was a potential wedding tragedy (a little sarcasm in that comment, but it felt like a big deal at the time!) However, the french manicure they gave me worked like magic to make the nail look the same as the others. I don't know how she did it! Such a great place to go to treat yourself! read more

Great on every level except they don't wash out or sanitize the foot baths between clients. EWE! I witnessed several customers come and go...and zero cleaning of the baths. So buyer beware of any bacteria from the many people who soaked their feet in warm water before you. read more

I knew these gals were good, but my unfortunate experience at "Nice" also on Roosevelt confirms it. I shall never cheat on them again! Hoa is a lovely, classy place. Appointments are respected. The place is super clean, the colors are not some horrid scream-queen green and pink, but gold, wheat and burgundy. The technicians are super accommodating and do not ever rush you in selecting a color. They always help me choose and let me try two or three! They take their time and do their work with focus. They offer long gloves for when using the LED lamps (I do shellac), which is super nice for someone a bit creeped out by the lamps. Enough space between chairs, quiet ambiance.The owner is fantastic and always happy to see folks, whether you are a first-timer, or a regular. I just love Hoa. They are real pro's. I can't rave enough about this place, they are the best nail salon I've ever been too in Seattle. There's no chitter-chatter amongst the worker, they are all super quiet and polite. The presentation of the salon is very clean, inviting and organized. They do the best to fit you in last minute. I recently reserved the backroom for me and 4other friends to get pedis and you can bring your own alcohol here to drink. We made mimosas, got manis & pedis, and just had a wonderful time and the staff did an excellent job. I enjoy my experience at Hoa as their salon is clean and superior to other near by salons, however their prices are higher and the services are not as extensive than their competitor a few blocks down Roosevelt. I have had so-so experiences here twice before, but it's convenient so today I came in at 3pm and made an appointment for 3:45pm and experienced pure disappointment. I got my eyebrows waxed (waaay too thin), my underarms waxed (plenty of hairs left behind, along with some red irritation), and then had to wait another 15 minutes for my manicure. I ended up with a clipped, bloody, potentially infected cuticle and a messy manicure with bubbles in the polish. The owner felt bad when I asked for some neosporin, and took $5 off my manicure price. That was nice, but didn't do anything for my scant eyebrows or hairy armpits. Bottom line, some do a nice job, some don't. I think especially if you come in on a Friday afternoon, they are busy, overworked and rushed and don't take the time to do a quality job. read more

Even though it's a little more expensive than the average mani/pedi salons, it's definitely worth it. if you want great hair, you go to a great hair salon. if you want great nails, you go to the best nail salon. I go to Hoa about every two months to get a pedicure. They do take appointments, but I am rarely turned away as a walk in. The ambiance is clean and classier than many other nail salons. The tools have been through an autoclave, which is a must. The staff is friendly and professional. If there is a side conversation going on between two nail technicians, it is usually very quite, unlike my experience at most other nail salons. They charge just a little bit more than the average, but it is so worth it. I can't think of a reason to go anywhere else. read more

I've been avoiding mani/pedis for a while now... too often I'm disappointed with the outcome for the amount of money I spend. I just paint my toesies myself and ignore my hands. Que a King County Metro bus part that flew off and shattered my windshield. Needless to say, I was feeling like the universe was against me and I decided to bike over to Hoa instead of downing a bottle of wine (or going to any of the cheap, bad-review places on the upper Ave). Just for a manicure... didn't feel like dropping more than $20. The place is clean, open, and inviting. I got an appt less than an hour from when I called and they kindly squeezed me in just before closing. I had a hard time choosing a color, but not because their opi collection is too small... I was just being indecisive and moody after my earlier mishap with the bus. Jane, I believe, took care of me. No pain or bleeding with the cuticle trimmer and she massaged my hands for quite a while - definitely didn't rush through that part. I picked a deep, almost black purple and she applied it perfectly, and cleaned up any of her tiny mistakes. Even my man was impressed with her precision. So glad I didn't have to regret my $15 indulgence... and I'll definitely be going back for a pedicure when I'm feeling low because I know I won't regret that $30 either. read more

I've been to the location in Madison Park which I love. So when I was in Roosevelt, decided to try out this location. The store ambiance was nice and clean. It was rather slow on a Monday afternoon. However I was surprised when I was rushed to pick my polish. Twice in a minute. Seriously lady, I just go here. Tr brow wax was not clean; I had to point out a couple of stray hairs. The pedi was great. The mani was kindergarten level. Why? it was messy and some nails didn't have adequate coverage. I was quite disappointed because for the price I pay, I expected better service. My friends and I recently had a mani/pedi party in their private room. Brought bubbly and scones with devonshire cream. The salon made sure there was enough staff that day to accomodate 9 f us. Loads of fun hanging out with friends drinking prosecco while getting pampered. I highly recommend it! And the best part is there is no room rental fee. She didn't greet me or ask how she could help when I came in, and then ended up basically turning my sister and I away. We immediately left and felt pretty snubbed! Very bad experience!!! This is the first time I have gel nail, so bad! Front desk girl is rude, impatient; the nail technician was in a hurry! They talked in their language a lot regardless my feeling. Told me the price is $45 but in the end it turned to be $75. Why? Cuz you had a French nail + design. Are you freaking kidding me? Design? She randomly put few dots on my nails and each nail has one fake crystal... That's called a design? I will never go there again! Bad service and bad job! I love having my nails done at Hoa Salon! I get a Shellac Mani when needed regularly. However, the lady at the front desk was extremely rude! When I was paying for my services yesterday, the receptionist was on the phone with a client who was booking an appointment; when the receptionist hung up the phone she rolled her eyes and said something rude about the client "...gosh make up your mind...errr..." which makes me wonder what she says about me when I make an appointment. To go into further detail; I came in today to have a touch up and the same receptionist was rude to my technician who was doing my nails and then tried justifying her rudeness to me after she made my technician cry. My technician (anonymous, for privacy issues) was extremely helpful and nice to me; I give her a five star rating and would come back again to see her. The owner Michelle was extremely nice as well and cared deeply about her guest and her positive relationship with them. (This is the first time I have ever blogged about an establishment. The reason I am doing it now is because my heart goes out to my technician and I wish I would have given her a hug before I left. Sometimes a hug is worth a thousand words and can make a world of difference. I hope she has a better rest of the day! and I feel bad the lady at the front counter abuses her power.) Overall, I would recommend this establishment because it is clean, and the ladies who pamper you are friendly, just be cautious of the receptionist. read more

HOA SALON GAVE ME A MASSAGE CHAIR. Yes, they GAVE me one. While getting pedicures, my friend and I talked about how we'd love to have one of their massage chairs. Michelle, who runs the place, overheard us and said she could actually do that - she was getting new chairs in the following week, and the old ones would just be taken away. Unbelievable. We came the next week with a truck and picked up OUR OWN MASSAGE CHAIR. This really happened. So, obviously, I will love Hoa Salon forever, guaranteed - but besides the insanely generous gift, I dig them as a pedicure customer too. I used to be very reluctant to getting pedicures, since I am not a fancy lady. I'd get one every year or two. Now I get them all the time, because of Hoa Salon. The experience is just comfortable the whole way through, the nail polish lasts forever, and it's just a nice healthy thing to do for your feet...whether you are a fancy lady or not. read more

Let me say that I am certainly not the type of girl who gets a manicure weekly, monthly, even yearly. I consider it a splurge and usually get it down about 1x a year, if that. But for some reason I felt like just getting my hands a little extra care today. Hoa is fairly close to my house and they were able to squeeze me in on an already tight Saturday schedule - much appreciate. I went in with a specific design/way that I wanted my nails, however the manicurist didn't speak English too well making my options rather limited. I ended up having the front desk girl finish up my nails and suggested giving me an added sparkle to my nails which I loved. Speed factor was nice here as well! Maybe I haven't been in many nail salons in awhile but I do wish there was a better of communication when i'm wanting something specific from my manicurist. Great experience from start to end. I had a pedicure and french manicure. They are very attentive, bring you tea, and you get to sit in a robotic massage chair while reading your favorite mag (or playing Iphone games..) and get pampered. If you get the mani/pedi, two ladies will work on your nails at once. This is the ultimate princess treatment, people. The whole shibang only set me back $47 w/o tip. Not bad for all the attention and love they give your nails. They offer you a punch card for a free mani once you buy 9, or free pedi once you buy 9. Such a great little salon! A few months ago I was married, and I realized the incredible value of sitting and getting a pedicure in the weeks before the big day. Today, it was my turn to take a bride to be for the much needed relaxation after a day of dress fittings and veil choosing. We were running a little late, so I called the salon, and they happily moved our appointment 15 min later. Upon arrival, we found the salon to be clean, inviting and the owner was exceptionally friendly. Our spa pedicures were very reasonable at $30, and we both went out the door with beautifully done toes and a little less stress than we walked in with. Hi I give the place a 2 star rating have to say I have been a Hoa customer for a few years now. first going to the madison location and recently going to the u-district location. This place has gone down hill I had a pedicure that was short abrupt and my feet were left looking like i painted my toes my self( this is not good) I alerted the owner she attempted to get somebody to correct it but after all that there were many layers of polish on my toes. so much that even 4 hours! later I put my shoes on to run an errand and they smudged. ! I loved the atmosphere but I won't be back. Update!! I recently went to the Ballard location. After talking to the lovely owner of Hoa about my service. She was very accomidating and suggested I come in to get my toes done on the house. I had another pedicure. This was one of the best pedicures I have ever had. I know my pedicurist did not know I was comming in for a redo only the front desk person.. The last one must have just been a bad egg in the bunch. over at the other location. I recently had a pedicure at Hoa. The technician did a great job, and the pedicure didn't start to crack or chip until about a week and a half after I had it done. I was really happy! One thing I like about Hoa is that they use products with fewer toxins - a plus for the women who work there and customers alike. Their customer service was also good. They were able to fit a group of eight of us in and none of us had to wait too long before or after despite us rotating through the stations. The manager was really great about letting us know that if anything chipped to just come back the next day for a touch-up. Two things I will mention that stop me at four stars - the technician didn't trim my nails as other salons have done. Also, despite using a new packet of tools that was opening in front of me, I developed a mild infection in one of my toes a few days later. This may not be the salon's fault, but that is the first time it has happened to me. read more

I have been to a lot of nail salons, but this is the absolute best. I loved how clean everything is and sort of glamerous. I've never had a problem getting in with or without an appointment. The tools used come in individual packets after being sanitized which was a huge plus for me. The work is professionally and quickly done without seeming to be rushed. Because I usually to on my lunch hour, I truly appreciate the neck and shoulder massage which eases some of the stress from my job. Their rates are very reasonable. I thought a salon like this would charge extra for all the pampering they do, but they keep their prices very competitive. This is my salon for as long as I live and/or work in this area. If I have to though, I will find another Hoa Salon nearby. read more
