If speed is the thing you're going for then this is the place to go. I had a manicure, pedicure, and brow wax in under 30 minutes. It felt a little like a drive-through. You wouldn't expect that kind of experience considering their space is so spa like and nice. The staff were nice. I was reminded of a Seinfeld episode though when Elaine thinks the ladies are saying bad things about her in Vietnamese. In between weird glances and laughs. Whatevs. My manicurist forgot to put on the top coat at the end, and I couldn't find her when I was getting ready to leave. It lasted 4 days. The water I soaked my hands in was cold. I really wanted to like this place, but I don't think I want to give it another chance. ***Update: I'm adding a star to the review. While I may have not had a stellar first experience. Being a good tipper sure pays off at Hoa Salon. I had a great gel manicure with Lily, and booked a pedicure for the following weekend. When I came to my appointment (late - I'm so ashamed), Lily was very happy to see me. She noticed my fingernails weren't as shiny as her standards required and offered a complimentary touch up. $42 for a mani/pedi and SO TOTALLY WORTH IT. They spend a good amount of time doing what they need to do to get your fingers and toes in tip top shape. Very little chit chat (I don't know about you, but I do enough talking during the day, I don't like to talk when I'm trying to be pampered). Super great ambiance. They clearly understand the affect that a little decor can have. It's not overbearing, no, it's soft and serene and oasis-y. Quite conducive for relaxation. I'd recommend making an appointment, they can fill up pretty quickly. I've never had to wait if I have an appointment. Tea is offered! I love tea! I've been visiting Hoa Salon -- and Michelle -- for at least a decade. In fact, Hoa was the first place I went after having each of my two babies because it's such a special "self care" place for me. I started going there because I lived in the neighborhood but I quickly grew to appreciate the skills of Michelle's amazing, longtime technicians, the fact that they have allllllll the best colors (and Michelle knows them by heart and can find you any color you want) and that it's clean and lovely and everything you could possibly want when you're doing a little self care. I am particularly impressed with Michelle's ability to navigate the last couple years during the pandemic -- she's kept her staff working and she's committed to keeping her customers and her employees safe. I had a really stupid day at work (me stupid, not anybody else - one of those days when you're both exhausted and overcaffeinated and can't seem to get anything right) and have a wedding I'm in this weekend, and I had to - somehow! - find time to get my nails done and my eyebrows waxed before noon tomorrow. Hoa Salon is right by where I work, so I decided to give it a try. It's more expensive than the places I usually go, but a few extra dollars was worth it to me for the extra convenience. I was having one of those days where you just feel horrible the whole time, like you are bad and stupid and should just go sit in a hole with a bucket over your head and save everyone the trouble of having to deal with you, and if I hadn't needed to get this done for the wedding I probably would have just gone home and sulked. BUT IT IS SUPER NICE. I hate having my nails done and I really enjoyed myself. Everyone I spoke to was extremely friendly and the lady who waxed my eyebrows was super gentle and sweet. Usually when I have to get a manicure it's an in-and-out, try not to take up too much space kind of situation, but this was just... really nice. I've never really understood people when they talk about getting pampered, but here I really felt taken care of. I feel kind of stupid about it but it made me feel a lot better. I was pretty happy with my girlie mani/pedi experience here. I had never been to Hoa before, but based on the Yelp reviews and the website I decided to have a little faith. I'm pretty sure I called about 5 times constantly changing the number of women in our party who were getting mani/pedis or just pedis. Every time they were totally sweet and I never had to give the name of each person or give a credit card number to guarantee the spots, which I appreciated. We were brought back to a more private room that had 6 or 7 pedi chairs set up and we basically just took turns getting our nails done. The pedis are nothing extraordinary, I could have done with more rubbing, but I was impressed when the girl who was doing my feet pulled out what looked like a hard-core cheese grater and used it on my feet. My mani was nice, I got a complimentary parrafin dip because I was the bride. I thought my nails looked really nice afterward, and the best part was that my nails didn't chip for DAYS! I'm usually the person who's nails chip within 6 hours of getting a manicure, I don't know how they do it, but I got my nails done on Friday and on Monday morning they still looked great. I agree with Cara that $42 seems a bit high for a basic mani/pedi, but honestly I thought the service was professional, my hands and feet looked great and I loved that they had the private room for all the girls to chat. This is my new go-to salon. I called in and got a same day appointment for the soak-off gel nails (shellac??) It's taken me forever to find a regular nail salon. This place is it! Here's the quick and dirty: They have really reasonable prices. My nails look amazing! kept for 3 weeks. Very clean. Great service. They have a mani/pedi stamp card--customer loyalty. It's generally easy to get an appointment. Great attention to detail. They give you a massage! So after I wrote my review the owner sent me a message to apologize and that I should go back for a fix so after work I rushed over for just that. I was a bit hesitant - I didn't know how the staff would treat me but it took some explaining as to why I was back before I was ushered to a chair and prepared for the worst. In some salons I get treated a bit rudely, that I should have noticed it before I left but sometimes I just don't notice things right away. Anyway, the girl who fixed my nails, Kim, was very sweet the whole time and chatted with me the whole time (maybe because she could tell I felt embarrassed/bad about being back, maybe because she's a chit-chatter). Not once did she make me feel bad about getting my nails corrected and made sure I was happy with the end result, which I was. This is a place where you feel like you are being a little pampered, but not paying the prices you would at a fancy spa. However, I didn't experience the service or relaxation I would have felt at a fancy spa. Conclusion: you get what you pay for. I called for a same day appointment. When I got there they were ready to take me right away. The waiting area is very welcoming (even though I didn't sit there) and everything was really clean. I got a mani/pedi and they did them at the same time. The two women were professional and nice, although they did not offer me tea or anything to drink, maybe because my hands were not available? I felt that for $42 it was a little bit of a rushed experience. I have gone to other places that take more time and do a more thorough job, especially with the pedicure. After an extensive time waiting in the chair for everything to dry, I went to pay and saw that only an hour had passed since I walked in the door. When you factor in choosing a color, taking off shoes, and drying time, the mani/pedi itself took only about 40 minutes. For cleanliness, friendliness, and atmosphere I give 4 stars. Also, I got a whole 5 days of totally perfect nails before I got a chip. For me that is amazing. On Day 5 I got a tiny chip, which is not very noticeable at all. I went to Hoa for a post-Christmas girls day with my mother and sister. The owner was extremely welcoming and immediately offered us hot tea and neck warmers. We were then taken to the back room. Overall, it was a great experience and we are all very satisfied. The owner does a great job making everyone feel welcome and our appointments were honored promptly. We forgot to pick out colors, so she even hand selected a few for us to pick from (above and beyond service). My only 'complaint' would be that our pedicures seemed to be a bit rushed. From the time we sat down in our massages chairs to the time they painted the last nail on our toes...it was about 25 minutes (I'm used to about 40 minutes and my other favorite nail establishments). It just felt a bit in and out, and they only scrubbed my feet for about 10-15 seconds each. I don't even remember her cutting my cuticles (that's how fast it was). I don't expect a full fledged spa experience, but it would have been nice for them to take a bit more time. That might be the only reason I wouldn't rush back...and if you prefer a quicker experience then this would be a great place. Nonetheless, the entire salon was spotless, clean and modern. My toe nail polish hasn't chipped (it's been a week), and my gel nails still look beautiful. All in all...I would recommend this salon and I'll be back next time I'm in town visiting! read more

Just tried this place for the first time based on good word of mouth. I got the manicure/spa pedicure combo. It was a bit odd to have one woman doing my hands while the other was doing my feet, but efficient. It is very clean. They have a great selection of OPI polish or you can bring your own color. The owner was so friendly and helpful. They even bring you water or tea. For $42 for both services, I doubt I'll go back to Spa Scotta with their wacky $55 pedicure only any time soon. I go to Hoa fairly regularly with friends and like their pedicures. However, one time I thought I would try their waxing services. They totally botched my eyebrows. The Hoa waxer girl was really nice and apologetic. But in the end I went to a wedding with crooked and overly thin brows. And the owner is fanatical about cleanliness. The service is great and the prices, the same as Madison, are very good. When I'm feeling stressed this is the place I go. The massage chairs are amazing, the music sets the right tone, and as the ladies do their thing on my feet and hands all becomes right in the world again. I absolutely LOVE this place. It was my first time there and I could not find a single thing wrong during my visit. There is a really good clean environment in this place and the decoration is very tasteful. First of all, I was a walk-in. I was being helped in less than 5 minutes (please note that this was on a Friday morning, around 11am)! I was looking for a manicure so I did not get to try the spa chairs, but they look soooooo nice. Next time, I will get a mani-pedi :) The manager was very nice and helpful. The manicurist who did my nails was very attentive (always asking if I needed something or if I was enjoying myself) efficient and skilled. The tools she used were wrapped in a sterilized package (you know they were clean). They give you a hot shoulder+neck "scarf" that feels so good and while your nails are drying they give you a massage. I felt I was getting so much for my money. This is one and only place to go to get my nails done, period. Oh, and one more thing... if you go in there for a pedi please know that they clean their tubs after each use. Pros: lovely, elegant atmosphere, clean, friendly staff, great massage chair. Cons: the spa pedicure clocked in at 25 minutes for $38. At my normal salon, the deluxe spa pedi for $35 includes paraffin, a sugar scrub and a much longer leg massage, totaling 50 to 60 minutes. Honestly, I get a spa pedicure to relax and this was much too short. You can add an a la carte scrub for $12 and and extra ten minutes of massage for $10, which would have made the pedi a whopping $60. At the end of the pedicure, I mentioned that it was only 25 minutes and the owner first confirmed that yes, spa pedicures are usually 25 to 30 minutes. Then, after I paid and tipped, she said that spa pedicures should be 45 minutes long and that she hoped I didn't give the pedicurist a tip. I frankly thought this was unprofessional and puts the customer in an awkward position. It's up to the owner of a business to make it right for the customer if they didn't get the service they should have and then manage their employees themselves after the customer has left. It's also up to the owner to have protocols in place like timers to ensure that workers are not rushing. It's not up to me to punish an employee, who probably doesn't make much, by forgoing their tip. I won't be back. read more

I have been on a search for a new neighborhood nail salon that doesn't break the bank. I think I may have found it in Hoa. The woman at the desk was warm and friendly. She even came over an helped me pick out a color and offered water or tea. Then right at my appointment time I was taken over to Tina for a wonderful pedicure. She did a great job and spent some extra time undoing the bad shaping and ingrown nail from another salon gave me. I usually don't do manicures while in the pedi chair because they end up looking meh and I'm unhappy with the result. For some reason, I broke that rule (I must have been blissed out by Tina's awesome foot and calf massage) and I let a woman whose name I can't remember do a chair mani -- and that's where Hoa loses a star. While the shaping is perfect, the cuticles are uneven and polish is sloppy. Thank goodness it's a light color and not all that noticeable, but I'll definitely have to redo it myself. Here's the best part of Hoa. Even though it was packed on Saturday afternoon, it didn't feel rushed. It was quiet and relaxing, and incredibly clean. While the prices are incredibly reasonable, the ambiance and experience is high-end salon/spa quality. I'll definitely be back. read more

Large groups, take note. I love the Hoa Salons, but felt the need to write this review based on a recent experience I had when getting nails done with a wedding party. I made a reservation for 10 manis and pedis weeks in advance for my close friend, who was the bride, and the rest of her bridal party, all flying in from out of town. I reserved spots for all, assuming we could update day-of as needed (I've done this in the past at other salons, and it was never an issue). When asked specifics on the number of shellacs needed, I was told it was okay if I did not know until day of, so I assumed this would be the case for all nails, shellac or not. When we arrived that morning, I was told that because not everyone in our group was getting manis and pedis, I would be charged a $10 (manicure) and $15 (pedicure) charge for each person not receiving services. This ended up costing me an extra $150. I went ahead and paid it as I didn't want to create a fuss, but I was pretty turned off by the fact that this policy had not been communicated to me. All in all, good service, but beware if you are booking for large groups. Hoa should communicate this policy on their website and when clients call. read more

So, I was thrilled to find a salon that offered a shellac manicure at a decent price (only $35, including french), which they told me included take off. The salon is beautiful and clean, and all of their tools are sterilized after each use. I also purchased a pedicure also. When my pedi and shellac mani was done, they looked picture perfect; I could not have been happier. Then, the very next day, one of my shellac nails chipped. 3 days into my shellac, and all of my nails looked like it had been over a month since they had been done. Shellac is guaranteed perfect for 14 days, and within 72 hours, my hands looked like I hadn't been to a salon in months, minus the color on them. Heck, minus one toenail being just slightly uneven (barely noticeable), they still look better than my shellac manicure, and it was regular polish. I won't lie; I did post my displeasure on their facebook page and they offered to have me come in and redo my nails. Unfortunately, I don't have the time, and with the hurried job I received before, am very skeptical to have them redone there. I have even researched how to take shellac off at home so I don't have to go back. Time to look for a new salon, when I get the time to go. read more

Today was supposed to be a lovely and relaxing spa day for a few girlfriends and myself. I made an appointment the day before for a french shellac manicure, spa pedicure, & eyebrow waxing. The lady I spoke with was very sweet and I was looking forward to our little spa day. Unfortunately, it was not what I expected. We arrived 15 minutes early and no one greeted us. The ladies looked at us and turned back to their clients. We sat ourselves down in the waiting area and we were then greeted by the owner I believe. She was very nice so not being greeted when we walked in wasn't a big deal. While we were waiting to start on our mani/pedis, I was taken to have my eyebrows waxed first. The lady was nice but other than the initial hello, she never spoke another word to me until she said, "I'm done." Thankfully my eyebrows turned out nicely. Shortly after I had my eyebrows waxed we were seated in the private pedicure room area. While we had ladies working on our pedicures, we also had ladies doing our manicures at the same time. I appreciated the efficiency considering we felt pampered. Like the lady who waxed my eyebrows, the ladies who were working on us didn't talk much. Not saying they needed to say much... but friendly conversation would have been appreciated. Now here is where it gets worse. I've never gotten a shellac manicure before, but I was told shellac manicures last for two weeks without chipping so we decided to try it. One of the girlfriends I was with is getting married next week and I was hoping my mani/pedi would last until then. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure if that's going to be the case. My two girlfriends mani/pedis turned out great, mines are a different story. The first lady who did my french shellac manicure did it while I was getting my pedicure done. I noticed she put the white nail polish on quite thick.. but I figured that was normal. I was wrong. My nails were bubbly, uneven, thick, & poorly cleaned. I didn't say anything about it at first because I hate complaining, but one of my girlfriends insisted I say something, so I did. The owner was very apologetic and offered to have my nails redone and I agreed. I'm very forgiving so it wasn't a problem for me. A new lady ended up doing my nails and they turned out nicely and I was happy with the end result. By the time I got home my nails were already chipping and you can tell that parts of my nails aren't covered in the shellac coating that they are supposed to be covered in. Needless to say, I'm quite disappointed in my nails. I'll probably go to a different salon to have my nails redone before the wedding. I don't believe I would recommend this place to a friend nor would I return. Ok. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I went to this salon bc of the 100+ reviews and thought it'd be some fabulous experience. I've had some amazing pedicures and manicures in my experiences with various spas and salons and I honestly would say this was "Meh..." 1. Appts only? It didn't say that on the site. The receptionist/looked like owner just told me we only take appts. After questioning whether or not I could be squeezed in and prepared to go elsewhere up the street, she kept looking back and said, "Ok pick a colour." Wow. Great customer service. Especially since I told her I was a first time customer! 2. The girls don't talk. This could be a great thing to help you relax during the services. But I honestly think they don't talk because they don't speak English! A few things I asked they didn't reply to and just smiled. Oh dear. 3. The pedicure was lukewarm. The scrub and "massage" if you want to call it that was basically an application of the products and some light rapping of the fists onto your calves and toes. 2 here 2 there. It was as if she was about to faint and had no energy. A massage should feel like a massage. Was so looking forward to this part especially and was very disappointed. Again since point 2, I couldn't really stipulate my desires. 3. Shellac mani. Never had one before. "Get out! Get in! 2 times!" That's about it...re: the lamp and curing the shellac under it. She was trying to say my colour was too pink and suggested in very confusing broken English going a different colour. She brought me 5 other tones that was skin tone to sparkly pink. Huh? I said no I'd like the one I chose. Ok. She did it. It came out streaky. I said I want "smooth..." Multiple times she told me bc pink. Huh? Anyways she ended up putting 3 coats to achieve a smoother application. I think it was just poorly done. The job was not detailed, again the massage was an old lady touching me, and there was shellac all in between my nails and around cuticles. Not impressed. And both services took an hour?? Yes it's cheap but you get what you pay for. The only good things I can say about this place is they have nice hot towels that they put one of onto your feet after the pitiful massage. That felt nice. And the actual polish application of the pedi wasn't too bad. Just not great. She didn't cap my nails. A sign of a good pedi/mani. Although the salon appeared clean, I questioned the sterilization process of the tools bc I saw my attendant take the ones used into the back briefly then come out with tools in a bag and put it right back into the sterilizer?! This is where everyone draws a packet from to use on new clients?? How do they know the next packet has been sterilized yet?? Hm. Felt I tipped too much out of habit and feeling badly for the girls. The receptionist was very friendly and also offered me magazines and a hot neck wrap. Once in the chair, I was helped by two girls. One who was very careful with the ingrown I had on my toenail. I have been getting my nails done at Hoa since they opened one year ago. I think Hoa Salon is the nicest and most reasonably priced nail salon I have been to in North Seattle. No stinky chemicals, excellent service, calming and pleasant space. You shouldn't miss trying this place! I recommend making an appt. - they've become quite popular in the last year. read more
