This is the best eggs Benedict I have had in years. The hollandaise sauce was rich and smooth and absolutely delicious. They also gave me a choice of potatoes or salad, I took the potatoes because: breakfast potatoes! They were perfectly crispy and creamy. They also delivered a little pot of their house sauce, which was made of cilantro and mint, and a bunch of other things. I tend to avoid cilantro and mint foods. In the past, I have described eating cilantro as biting down on a piece of tinfoil, a sensation that says "run for your life!" overtime my reaction to cilantro has mellowed, and I don't really understand why. But? I ate every bit of that house sauce. I'm so glad I tried it, and tried it with the eggs, Benedict, because it added a perfect level acidity to cut through that richness, and really elevated the dish. They initially said it would be a 45 minute wait, but it actually turned out to be less than 10 minutes. We were greeted by a very lovely, smiling and upbeat young lady who took us to our table for 2, which was wick followed by our equally lovely waitress. The food was excellent and the syrup of course was perfect. We enjoyed seeing the young families and couples all sharing large family style tables and enjoying the moment. Quick tip: get there around 10AM after the rush and you should get a table pretty quickly! The ride up to the farm is fun and provides an excuse to drive into the hills that you may not venture into otherwise. If you haven't done it before, please go and treat yourself and your family, if like me you haven't been back in quite sometime, GO because I regret missing past years of treating ourselves to this experience. We ended up finding both at Baked. When we walked in, we saw a few big bakery cases filled with pastries, muffins, and all sorts of baked goods. A little further into the space, we saw a reception stand for their full service, sit-down restaurant. We just wanted a beverage and a bakery treat, so that meant we couldn't sit in the restaurant, but luckily, we grabbed the only table in front of the bakery cases. It was quite a chore narrowing down our order from their many drinks and baked goods, but eventually we decided on a Cold Vanilla Blueberry Latte ($6), a Hot Banana Bread Latte ($5), a Macaroon ($3.75), and an Orange Cranberry Scone ($4). The cold latte and scone were mine and I enjoyed both a lot. The latte had great blueberry flavor and the scone was fantastic. We shared the baked treats, and the macaroon was great too, with plenty of chocolate chips, and a freshly made gooey consistency. We both noted how fresh everything was. Not being able to sample the food that was on the menu was a leap of faith on our part, but our confidence in Wheelhouse was rewarded by their incredible food and expert coordination. The Food: We chose Wheelhouse because of their commitment to local food, but for the benefit of everyone else reading our review I'll describe how delicious it was. Bottom line - they won rave reviews from our foodie friends as well as our meat- and- potatoes family. In our experience, wedding catering usually means sad, bland vegetables and dry meat. Not only was their beef juicy and full of flavor, but all of the vegetables tasted so fresh and the flavors of each one came through. Neither of us really like cauliflower, but we LOVED the cauliflower dish they made. For our meat dishes, it was this excellence in produce that really gave an added dimension to the dishes (in addition to cooking the meat just right). AND when they had to bring in an outside vendor (like the pies that we wanted for dessert) they really chose the best around. Organization/ Logistics: They were by far the most organized vendor at our wedding, despite feeling the most small-scale and personable. Our wedding was very bespoke/ a la carte/ choose your own adventure, and they followed us effortlessly through all of the details, weird requests, and special considerations of our wedding. They never came to us with setbacks or complications. They were really good about checking in, and structured our interactions in the months leading up to the wedding so that we were all on the same page with the many, many details to keep track of. Day-of Logistics: They were so unobtrusive and friendly, despite unpleasant surprises from other vendors. When our rental company failed to deliver some items and put others in odd places, they helped pick up the pieces. When our venue went back on its word as to where they could put their cooking tent they rolled with it. When we decided day-of to hold our photoshoot where they needed to work they were so good about working through it. Personal touches: It's no coincidence that they gave us exactly what we wanted in terms of food. They paid close attention when we told them our preferences were and were genuinely attuned to our likes and dislikes. During the planning process I mentioned how I always go back for seconds at wedding buffets. Based on this aside, they gave me a HUGE platter of food, which we both found to be so touching, special, and funny. Tipping: Their guideline to us was that if we were pleased with the job they did we should tip 10-20%. Not totally unheard of but worth mentioning since different caterers do it differently.
