The location and staff were all great. The flavor of the food was on point but the pizza was not cooked properly. Took a peek into their kitchen and they have a very small commercial pizza oven The amount of pizzas they were serving on a Sunday evening was never going to be properly cooked with such a small underpowered oven. I notice the same issue at many New England pizza places. If they invested in a proper oven that can reach and hold the required temps to make pizza they would be much better but sadly Hillside fails to hit the mark. read more

This place is on our pandemic shortlist for takeout. Since we never eat in restaurants anymore that means I get to eat Hillside once a week, right? I'm able to eat gluten again but still regularly order their GF crust, particularly for Eatcha Greens, because it is crispy and chewy and delightful. Hillside Pizza is our go-to place for really good pizza in the Brattleboro area. Sadly, it is about 12 miles south, in the building that used to be Streeter's general store in Bernardston. But if you happen to be in or near Bernardston, I highly recommend the pizza. They have an excellent selection of toppings, the ingredients are organic, the crusts are excellent, and they are not stingy with their toppings. They have several different sauce options, but we usually just get the regular tomato sauce, which is really yummy. Today we had a 16" pie with Kalamata olives, broccoli and tomatoes on a whole wheat crust (an option for $1 extra). It really hit the spot. Amazing pizza! Try their uncooked take-away option and cook your pie at home!! Such a great idea! Wraps are equally as delicious, although I wish they would expand they're options - occasionally they will have a great off-menu option, so be sure to look!! Some locations also have panini's which are AMAZING...I wish they all made them :( They also do a lot of good for the community, they're nonprofit and all about giving back and supporting local farms. Passing through town on our way up to Vermont, we came to Hillside on a whim slightly before closing. Rather than be deterred by the group of hungry and loud college students entering the shop right at the end of the day, the good people of Hillside welcomed us in from the cold and cooked up some exceedingly delicious pizza. Wonderful texture and taste, a variety of options (including gluten free!), and piping hot! Despite the intimate and cozy vibe of the restaurant, which isn't quite sit-down, the hostess came to check in on us multiple times. As we left and Hillside closed up shop, she even gave us a full large pizza plus a few extra slices (pictured) for free! Couldn't ask for a more pleasant experience. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. This was single handedly the worst pizza I have ever eaten and that includes gas station pizza. I got a normal pizza with cheese and mushrooms. My boyfriend got some nasty wrap stuffed with chemically tasting spinach and bland cold turkey, not cooked evenly. Absolutely flavorless and so hard to choke down. My pizza was so poorly put together that all the cheese fell off and I was left with a piece of soggy cardboard basically. It was horrible. Also expensive. Only plus side was the staff was nice. Steve and I met some friends at Hillside Pizza in Bernardston to fill up before an evening at Hitchcock Brewing (just down the road). We were pleasantly surprised to walk into a cute, inviting, warm room accented by a pellet stove insert in the fireplace. We were immediately greeted by very friendly staff. We took a booth and took a look at the beers on tap (obviously our priority...). There were only about 6 beers, but it was a good selection. Each of us found exactly what we wanted. Steve and I ordered a large pizza, and my request for extra sauce was happily received (that's not always the case). Our friends also ordered a large pizza. We were all planning our late night leftover snacks. We also ordered a large order of garlic knots to share. The pizza was great, we all loved it. The garlic knots seemed a little under cooked and could have used more garlic, but they were all devoured in no time, and there was plenty of dipping sauce. The service was top notch. Bottom line: Great pizza, good beer selection, fantastic staff/service, very nice and cozy room. We'll definitely be going again. read more

You do have the option to choose a specialty sauce or another crust like whole wheat or gluten free. A friendly and excellent Pizza House just off of I-91. I believe this to be the final exit of Massachusetts if your heading north bound. The pizza was an excellent thin crust cheese/sauce with sliced turkey sausage & spinach. So tasty and a large was more than enough for 3 people!!! This is becoming a regular stop on our weekly treks home from VT. Easy on/off I-91 and the friendly staff can provide paper plates and napkins making a road warrior dinner in the car with two kids somewhat civilized. Pizza is tasty and not greasy, cold and hot wraps also very good. Dining room is casual and quaint if you have time to stay and eat. Great vegetarian menus choices too. read more

stopped by here on our way from Vermont. Pizza was great, not the best we've had since we're from NJ / NYC area. But pretty good for out here and better than the ski area we were staying . Lots of options for toppings and not greasy. You could tell a lot of care went into the food. We also had the garden salad with chick peas, carrots and red cabbage with ginger miso dressing. Love how they also offered healthier options for drinks: cold green tea and lightly sweetened sparking water. A surprising find considering we were just driving by on rt 91.
