Went to Gianni Fig's for the first time on 4/10/2026 in our continued search for new Italian restaurants. The restaurant resides in an older, well kept building in the small downtown area of the rural Town of South Deerfield. The interior of the restaurant is small, but welcoming, with an L-shaped bar for approximately (12) persons which accommodates food service, and table seating for approximately 50-60. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Friday, and by 6pm it was full; reservations are highly recommended. With regards to the food, everything was absolutely amazing! We started with the Fried Calamari (appetizer), which is my 'go to' as I both love it, and feel it is a perfect test of a kitchen's abilities, as it is a simple appetizer, but can be easily cooked poorly; this calamari was perfectly cooked (not chewy), and both lightly battered and flavored for a momentus start to our food experience. We also started with the Roasted Mushrooms (appetizer), and while I did not sample, the other members of my party thoroughly enjoyed. For the main course, I ordered the Chicken Cordon Blue (house specialty), which incorporated prosciutto and a unique creamy parmigiano sage rose sauce. The execution of the chicken preparation along with the sauce showcased the talent in the kitchen, reminding me that Gianni Figs is a chef owned restaurant. The other members of the table enjoyed Pasta Carbonara (traditional pasta), Grill to Table Scallops and Chicken Cacciatori (ribeye, chicken, & veal), all which I was informed were amazing! One minor critique as I pretend to be a legitimate food reviewer, is a consideration for the interior ambiance of the right side of the restaurant. If the right side were to more closely resemble the left side, with the addition of some wood, decor and softer lighting, it would create a warmer atmosphere for patrons. Additionally, a door or some type of partition to the kitchen entrance would also elevate the setting for those sitting adjacent to. Lastly, while I understand things will never go back to pre-2020, and the world is an altered place, with altered standards, I will note that multiple tables included patrons wearing ball caps and hooded/printed weatshirts while eating. NO stars for these people. I went to this place about two weeks before we moved here with the real estate agent who I worked with. We both had fettuccine. Later that evening, I was running to the bathroom repeatedly, and had severe stomach and intestinal pain. Around 3 a.m. I finally had passed all the poison out of my body. In the morning the agent called me to see if I was okay and she had a similar experience, and had passed blood. I can think of nothing nice to say for this place. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I had heard wonderful things about this restaurant and was really excited to try it. I drove a half hour and used GPS to find it and went to the link that said menu, made choices for my family's dinner, pressed the button to call the restaurant and ordered my food. We were all really excited to try a new place but unfortunately when I arrived and went to pay for my take out, it went from being $53 to being $82. I asked about the difference and was told to walk to the back to talk to the owner who, in an indescribably rude way yelled that he wasn't in control of his pricing and that I could either pay the higher price or not eat there. I explained that the link to the menu goes to yelp, which also goes to all of the pictures of his food, descriptions, prices. The link also goes to these reviews and provides a hyperlink to the restaurant's number which i clicked on to call and order. The owner yelled in my face, insisting none of that was his fault and that he has no control over either Google or yelp, and that yelp can list his prices at any price they want. (Insane) He had absolutely no interest in the fact that he was misrepresenting his pricing or that I was really excited about eating at his restaurant. None whatsoever. He didn't explain things at all or offer to meet me halfway on price or anything. At this point he could be dishing out gold, and I would never darken that doorway again. Not because of whatever mistake was made in the pricing, but because of his loud, rude behavior and immediate need to do battle with a person who was simply asking for an explanation. I'd like to be able to give 3.5 because it wasn't a 3 and not quite a 4/5 stars. Overall we were pleasantly surprised by a place with a "teriyaki cream sauce" on pasta with veggies. I had read the owner is from Italy so I wanted to try it. Our young waiter apologized from the get-go that he might be delayed because he was "working take out". We thought we're sunk. BUT the chardonnay was creamy & lovely - nice pour. And out waiter was very attentive, checking in after our dishes came. I only have a picture of our local mushroom appetizer - we were so hungry we didn't get any more. Hubs had crazy Gorgonzola - yum! I had Aglio E Olio and it was ok. Just tried it here for the first time. I think it will be our new regular place! The ambience was warm and cozy and decorated for Christmas. Our waitress was good and checked on us multiple times. It's a small place so reservations are helpful. The food was very good and I haven't seen portions like that in years. We started with the Gorgonzola bread fondue. Wow! The fondue was amazing. They definitely didn't provide enough bread compared to the bowl of fondue and for the price but it was so delicious. A must order!!! I had shrimp scampi with huge shrimp. It was delicious. My husband had the bolognese and he said it was delicious! He also had a yummy espresso martini. Prices were very reasonable. We can't wait to go again! read more

This little place was absolutely amazing. The service was great, the portions are large, the drinks were amazing! The food, WOW. I had the chicken cordon blue and it was so delicious. It's small and fills up fast, don't forget to set a reservation! There were people waiting outside 20 minutes before they opened! Definitely coming back one day! (We drove two hours for this!) it was a great spot for a birthday dinner! They were also VERY accommodating of my service dog. Gave him a bowl of water and were very sweet to him. read more

Hard review to write because although the food is fantastic, their take out process is awful. Sometimes we don't like go eat in there because it's small and very noisy, but they make take out difficult. Last night we were told 545 and our food wasn't ready until 630. Another lady said she waited over an hour. You have to stand at a podium in the middle of the place and they don't even offer pay ahead. We thought it was because of Covid, but it's been 4 years and no improvement. BUT we keep going back because the food is outstanding! read more

We had reservations at Gianni Fig's and it was better than expected. We ordered Burrata and Fried Eggplant to start, and I ordered the Spicy Gorgonzola, replaced sausage with vegetables and fettuccini with penne. Family ordered Crazy Gorgonzola + Ribeye with vegetable side. I ordered a "Second Wind" at the end and it was fantastic. I didn't catch the waitresses name, but they could do better at filling the water glasses and checking in. We spent about 2 hours here and had to ask for water. This is a lovely restaurant. The menu can appeal to all tastes. It is classic Italian food. The server was amiable and responsive to all our needs. The restaurant is popular. There were a lot of people there, but it was possible to carry on a conversation without yelling. read more

We went with another couple last night for New Years Eve for dinner. We had a horrible experience. The waitress took our order then disappeared. We couldn't order another drink if we wanted. She forgot my husband's soup. Never brought it. Forgot the bread we were told was coming. Never came. Brought me the wrong meal. I ordered chicken piccatta and was served chicken florentine, but couldn't find the waitress so sat looking at it for 20 minutes until another staff member noted. The food quality has significantly declined. The sauce on the pasta and fried mozzarella was like a can of tomato paste was opened and diluted and poured on. The icing on the cake was that when the waitress finally returned and I stated my meal was wrong I had not touched it, instead of apologizing and offering anything she argued with me. Gianni Fig is a find. Nestled in booming downtown South Deerfield, Gianni who is the chef and actually from Italy, makes great food at amazingly reasonable prices. The atmosphere is small and cozy. What a delightful and absolutely delicious restaurant with outstanding service! New to the area and hungry for dinner after a long day of traveling my family lucked into a table at Gianni Fig's Ristorante on a busy Sunday evening. We had read the Yelp reviews and all of our dinners were even better than expected. The portions are very generous and could easily be shared between two people depending on your appetite or the appetizer's shared beforehand. The environment is very family friendly and our waitress was charming, gracious and very knowledgeable of the full menu offerings and helped me narrow my entree choice to the homemade gnocchi with bolognese and pesto sauce and burrata. Others enjoyed the chicken cordon bleu and the seafood pasta. Everyone had a yummy dinner and some of us leftovers for lunch the next day. Traveling from NY and this place was above and beyond perfect italian food. So genuinely homemade and fresh, giant portions. Absolutely wonderful flavors and so many options I couldve had everything! Overall we had a good experience. The atmosphere and service were great. We tried the fried mozzarella for an appetizer. For mains we got homemade gnocchi (9/10) and the crazy Gorgonzola (7/10). The chicken and Italian sausage in the Gorgonzola weren't that great, over cooked and chewy. That was the only disappointing part but the overall flavors were great. We were very disappointed with our dinner. The salad on my Veal Milanese had a horrible sour taste. My husband's pasta special with cream sauce, scallops and shrimp was saturated with sauce. The tomato sauce was bland to the point of being tasteless. I make a better marinara sauce. In addition, the Chardonnay was horrible. First, what a quaint little center of town. Then once inside the atmosphere is low lit and tables are well spaced for an intimate dinner and/or comfortable spacing. Server was attentive but not intrusive. Food and wine were top notch. I had the scallop risotto and my husband had the lamb and penne. Both were excellent, prices were reasonable. Stopped in here last Saturday night on the way back from the Mohawk trail. I am not exaggerating when I tell you the food was out of this world! We shared a lasagna and a scallop Alfredo. I love Gianni Fig's. It is one of a few higher end restaurants that is worth the money in Franklin County. The food is consistently very good. We were there 2 nights ago. We had a great bartender. I was surprised that the restaurant had reverted to paper napkins, very small paper napkins. I feel for the price you pay at Gianni Figs, patrons deserve a cloth napkin. Cloth napkins have been used before and have been part of the classiness expected at this restaurant. For some this may not be a big deal. For me if could be a deal breaker. When we asked the bartender about this, she responded with "Covid". However, we did not get plastic wear to eat with. We had silverware that needed to be washed. I do not see the difference. If this does not matter to you, then Gianni Fig's is the place to go. read more

Very poor service. Came here for a birthday get together with family from out of state. We had a reservation for 7:00 pm. We weren't even seated until 7:30. The place was so tiny that we had to wait outside. And we watched as other groups our size were given tables despite our reservation. While waiting for a table, one member of our group put in a request with the hostess to bring out a surprise birthday cannoli. The hostess said sure and that she would tell our waitress. It was clear the waitress was never told. And to make matters worse, the table previously seated before us got a birthday cannoli. Sad. On top of all this, our waitress was subpar. We had to individually ask for every single water refill. She would ignore other empty cups if not specifically asked. Also, the meal took forever to get through because of the slow/lacking service. My daughter and son-in-law treat me to Italian every summer when I visit them from Oregon. They took me to Gianni Fig's on a Thursday evening for dinner and drinks and I was very happy with my choice of chicken Milanese. Yum! I love this restaurant over all the other Italian restaurants they've taken me to. I highly recommend you check this place out. It's small but cozy dinning room was filled with soft live music. We tried for the first time and we're so hopeful! The service was impersonal and the staff, with the exception of their busser seemed stressed. The salad was the best part of the meal, simple fresh greens and veggies with homemade Italian dressing. My husband and I got scampi and carbonara. Scampi was a B+, shrimp cooked perfectly, lemony sauce and capers and artichokes. The carbonara was not great, D. The pancetta was not crispy, and the sauce was basic w spaghetti, no peas and lacked flavor. Wine selection for an Italian restaurant should be better, with only a few options for wine by the glass (red and white). On their website says "robust selection".
