The food was excellent had Prime Rib cooked just right came with a salad corn on the cob and potato on the side had mozzarella sticks the French onion soup was delicious the fish was excellent as well everything was excellent. We stayed in the motel and ate at the restaurant. The restaurant was very popular with locals and the food was quite decent. No complaints. Nothing unusual or extraordinary, or healthy, on the menu but I was happy with my breakfast burrito. The motel smelled musty, had stains on the bathroom sink and counter, but mostly it was the VERY large spiders in webs around the room. It freaked out my daughter and really put a damper on things. How hard is it to put a dust rag over a broom and sweep the corners of the room? It would take 2 minutes and result in a much better tip! read more

My wife and I have driven past this place but never stopped in. Because we were pressed for time, and French King was on our route, we decided to try it. Me and my grandson ordered the Yankee pot roast, and my wife ordered baked stuffed haddock. Our pot roast was nothing short of amazing! It came with real mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked green beans. My wife's haddock must have been delicious because she ate her entire meal, which is unusual. Our server was so pleasant and friendly, providing much insight into the French King's history. You could tell she was proud of her job, and her employers. We'll be going back soon, as many restaurants have taken pot roast off the menu. I forgot to mention the generous portions, especially with the pot roast. This is a very comfortable restaurant, with a motel attached. Check it out if you're in the area. read more

Passing by and stopped for lunch. Got a burger and a fish sandwich. Cole slaw was a pleasant surprise. Glad we popped in.

We found this motel on accident when our camping reservations fell through and couldn't have been happier! The staff were friendly and accommodating despite the late hours and even allowed us to order drinks at the end of their shift, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome after a long day of traveling. We found the pool was a delightful touch, the pancakes were incredible, and the walking trail behind the motel was a scenic and lovely way to walk off breakfast. What wonderful food! The pancakes are large and sweet with real maple syrup. My FAVORITE fluffy pancakes anywhere. My hiking partner went with the eggs Benedict with a side of large English muffins and home fries extra seasoned extra crispy. It is a very spacious room, and the seats are very comfortable and you feel like you're not crowded at any point in time. The banquet room that is available was not being used, but it would afford a whole separate large area, (with piano?), In the bar area was not being used as well. They are currently not doing dinner, but only breakfast and lunch. One thing I really found interesting, was that they were repurposing coffee mugs and you never know which one you might get. I did enjoy calling my friend Katie for much of breakfast. The cost for breakfast was definitely reasonable, and I would see myself coming here again can you try the stuffed French toast, Or just for the pancakes. They did not have any breakfast specials, and it did not look like they had a lot of gluten-free options. read more

What a nice place to have dinner! You'll know your in New England when you walk in the dining room with it's warm colors, large fire place and big windows. I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon and her husband and can tell that the two of them care about their business and the customers that dine there. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo with broccoli, spinach and mushrooms that came with a side dish. I selected the sauteed mushrooms which were sauteed with lots of garlic and a hint of sherry. It was wonderful, a rich Alfredo sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. My Fiance had the Yankee Pot Roast which he said was excellent. It was three large slices of pot roast and a nice serving of rice pilaf. The prices were very reasonable and they do offer a $12.99 special on Sundays which includes entree, two sides and dessert. I look forward to dining there again soon and highly recommend it. read more

The best thing about this place was our exit! The service was ATROCIOUS! My daughter had a long black hair in her water and we barely got an apology. The food was cold and over cooked. 8 or 9 of my friends and I stopped in to the French King Restaurant late last fall. We were on our way home on the back end of a 400 mile motorcycle run. The lights were on so we pulled in to the parking lot a little tired, cold and very hungry. We all felt a little better as soon as we walked in the door. The main dinning room is warm and inviting. Well lit and very comfortable. The fire place was burning and we were seated immediately..... It wasn't crowded but there were other people eating and enjoying their dinner. The wait staff was right on top things ...Helping with coats, taking drink orders, handing out menus, making suggestions....you couldn't ask for better service. I don't remember a complaint (and we have a few complainers).... The food was out in a timely manner, hot and fresh....salads were on chilled plates, stakes and burgers were cooked to order....beers were cold...what more could you ask for? A great experience.....We're all looking forward to heading back in the spring... read more

Was hiking the New England trail and hit bad weather so decided to get a room for the night. Called and the owner Frank answered we asked if we could get a ride, we were 3 miles away. He said no problem. Picked us up and when we got to the motel the restaurant was closed but he offered to open the bar for us and we had a few drinks with Frank. Awesome guy very easy to talk to, had a great time. Ordered delivery and ate at the bar. Price of the room and drinks were very reasonable. In the morning he gave us a ride back to the trail and even stopped at Dunkin Donuts for us. We offered him money for all the help but he wouldn't accept any, Again a great guy! Stayed for a couple of nights at the motel while we (3 of us) were in the area visiting family. Our room was clean and pleasant, water pressure was good and the hot water was plentiful. Great nights sleep was had by all both nights. We had a delicious and well priced breakfast each morning at the restaurant and I'm pleased to report they also brew a nice strong cup of coffee! Will NEVER go here again. My boyfriends coworker likes to go to breakfast on the weekends. The first time we went we noticed the waitress was 1. Alone on her morning shift which made the process slower and 2. Very clearly high on drugs. We were a little irritated with the slow service and our waitress being on drugs but the food was good. The next time he asked us to go back we went and it was worse. Same waitress still on drugs and service was slower. I had to walk over to the kitchen and ask for our check after a significant time waiting. We didn't go back for a while deciding that we just didn't appreciate the service. Last weekend his coworker asked us to go back again and we reluctantly said yes. This time she was not alone, there was a bus boy that looked like he just got out of prison and another waitress that looked like she was irritated the whole time. Our "regular" waitress took our orders and the food came out. My pancake was not cooked all the way thru and the new waitress had no idea which of the three omelets went to what person (which is normally fine for me- mistakes happen) but it became very frustrating for the now two waitresses at our table. They then brought my boyfriends omelet to a table near us. When they said it wasn't there's the waitress tried to give it back to my boyfriend! It had been sitting at someone else's table! When he said no he wanted a new one they brought it back to the kitchen and closed the kitchen doors (which have never been closed). They brought his "new" omelet out with no toast. When they finally brought the toast out it was cold. Never again will we go back here. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for a few years now....last time service was awful- decided to give it one more chance....WE WILL NEVER GO AGAIN! Food was decent. Had to repeatedly ask for a glass of wine and soda. Owner did not help out the one waitress that was on. Waitress never came to checkup on us. We had to ask to get check. Amazing hospitality. Legit true story. One night I was driving home from western to eastern Mass and the exhaust pipe under my car had detached and was dangling perilously close to the ground. I was debating if I should keep on heading home and hope it didn't fall all the way off or call AAA in the middle of nowhere. I ended up passing the French King, and turned around to book a room for the night. Better to deal with a side of the road breakdown during the day I figured. The owner was incredibly kind. He gave me a discount on the room (because the only ones left at the time were like large suites that I obviously didn't need) AND in the morning got a coat hanger and got under the car himself and somehow wrapped it around the exhaust pipe and part of the underbelly of the car so I could at least know I could make it home without the pipe falling off. We went here for the first time for dinner. I've been by a million times, but just never got around to eating here! The ambiance is older, dated, dark..."ole skool", you young 'uns will probably hate it! The food is the same with a lot on the menu. We had the weekend dinner specials, pot roast and broiled fish.
