I used to be a vegan for 12 years. Yes, I told everyone . Seriously though, one of the issues with being vegan and a foodie is that preparing haute cuisine dishes that are vegan is painstakingly time consuming. Try making seitan at home from gluten "flour" to see what I mean. This place though nails it. This is basically a high end restaurant that happens to be vegan. Full bar, wine selection, the works. In my opinion this is the best restaurant in Brattleboro. Menu items that stand out in no particular order: - Arancini cakes. These were heavenly. They are nicely crisped up at the bottom giving them a bit of a smoky flavor - Seitan salad: fully loaded salad with nice mix of flavors. Can be a bit on the spicy side for some people. - Swedish meatballs: my kids loved these. Come with perfectly crispy Brussels sprouts and herbed rice. 10/10 - Chicken riggies: this was also perfect for kids. The sauce for the rigatoni is very well put together. Basically this place is all hits on my list. Will be sure to stop here next time we are on a ski trip. read more

We went over to Brattleboro for dinner at this lovely Vegan restaurant. You do need to get a reservation. We were seated right away in their outside patio. It had a great vibe. For the food, we tried out a many dishes to share. My favorite was the chili. For what it's worth, the dishes we had with the vegan meat had the same taste, except for the salad. I was happy to find this spot during a New England road trip! Overall I thought a lot of the food in the region was mediocre but the couple vegan/veg spots I found made up for it! My friends, the daughter, and I had dinner here when I visited and not gonna lie, I was pretty stoked based on the name alone - Vegan AF. Surely it would be everything I dreamed of and more, right?!? The adults all ordered adult beverages and I cannot quite remember what I opted for, but it was a respectful tasty drink that facilitated a nice buzz. In terms of food - I selected the Jamaican jerk tofu bowl and the mac and sheese (I usually feel compelled to order vegan mac whenever it's served somewhere). Despite the place being rather small and cozy, and thus not exactly a bunch of diners, our food took awhile to arrive. No biggie, as we weren't in a rush, but thought I should mention in case that in case anyone is and is considering dining here. So the mac and sheese was okay, kind of bland for my tastes, but nothing that couldn't easily be doctored up. The Jamaican jerk tofu bowl was top notch! I appreciated that the tofu was well seasoned and pan fried to firm slightly crispy perfection! The rice, greens, and sweet potato (or carrots, I can't remember) were nice accompaniments to the tofu. I enjoyed trying varying combinations of the items because I'm just fancy like that! Service was friendly and attentive, no complaints there! So as you can probably guess, I wouldn't hesitate to return here should I ever visit my friends again. read more

This would be a 5-star place if they can get their act together re service. The servers the night we were there couldn't have been friendlier, but they really couldn't handle the crowd. Service was very slow; in fact, so slow that I had asked for hot sauce and she brought it out after I had finished eating! Set that aside - the food we had was amazing and the chefs/cooks were working really hard in a relatively small space to feed an almost full house. I had the street corn tamale bowl, which was absolutely fantastic! My husband had the squash and spinach dish which he felt the same about. Excellent place to eat, I'd say even if you're not vegetarian. The veg dishes are THAT good. Watching other dishes come out, and the wafting aromas, I know there were other things I definitely want to try. Because of how slowly things were coming out, we took our dessert to go (we had concert tickets for 8:00, had gotten to the restaurant around 5:30 and needed to leave around 7:15). We would suggest coming on a night when there's time to hang, enjoy not only the food but also the music and the overall vibe of the place. And there's a cool covered patio out on the side of the building which is where we sat. Everyone was obviously into friends and food and a relaxing evening! Vegan AF is easily the best restaurant in Brattleboro. We have been several times, and each time, I try something new. I'm not even a vegan and I just want to keep going back for more. On our last visit I had the Green Mountain Goddess and my husband had the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Wedge Salad. The Green Mountain Goddess had the most delicious broth and the vegetables were spectacular. Precious trips we have had tacos, stuffed peppers, mushroom polenta, and BBQ. I am a vegan traveler, and admittedly thought this overgrown railroad car with a goofy name would be a typical cafe with mediocre "feat" sandwiches. I was blown away by everything -- food, decor, and service. This should not just be a lucky stop on one's travel through Brattleboro; it is worthy of an hour-plus detour. Do yourself the favor. Wow. We were passing through Brattleboro late on a Friday evening -- hungry! We appreciate vegan fare, and stopped in. We weren't sure what to order because there were multiple good items marked gluten-free so we had the server surprise us! First we had sesame rice cakes which were seriously so crazy good. They didn't need much but the dipping sauce was a great add on. The Mexican chorizo Buddha bowl and the mezze polenta came next. The Buddha bowl was very good though the mezze polenta was out of this world hearty / wholesome and I could imagine myself eating it in cold weather. To celebrate, we also had a sundae -- also gluten-free. The entire thing was so delicious yet it was the service -- the nicest server name Linds and others made us feel right at home. If this was near our actual home, we'd be regulars! Until they open up closer to NYC, we'll have to come back for a visit! Oh and the tables with chalk and the overall set-up was super cute! And don't even get me started on the owners--they are literal angels, so friendly and full of main character energy every time I walk in. As a gluten-free vegan baddie with tons of queer besties, I feel so seen here. It's one of the only spots in Brattleboro where I can actually eat and feel like I belong. This place was so cute. You walk into the bar area and there's seating in the back. It's a comfortable space and the TABLES HAVE BLACKBOARD PAINT AND THEY GIVE YOU CHALK TO PLAY WITH which was amazing. So we got some tic tac toe and hangman in but we didn't have too long to wait bc the service was so prompt. We decided we needed to get the walnut paté the cilantro ginger gyoza and buffalo cauliflower wings with vegan blue cheese. All really delicious and vivid flavors in. The paté was so unique and came with pickled onions which I love. We also got a jambalaya to share which was the perfect spiciness. I can't believe this is the only all vegan joint in VT, but it is and it's amazing! First, the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable about what foods/drinks to pair together. Second, the food...incredibly tasty, the meatloaf had a nice kick to it and the Mexican bowl was just as good. Ooooh yes. Lovely room (we do miss Three Stones, which used to be in this space, but then again, Vegan AF is excellent). Service is caring and friendly. The tables double as chalkboards and they provide chalk; when we arrived the server had inscribed "welcome" on our table and we felt that. Food? Yes please. Although Vegan, meat and animal product eaters should be plenty comfortable, as there are many dishes that provide the texture, chew, and flavor of the meatish experience. Yet not in any way objectionable for those that want "vegan to be vegan" -- there were lovely choices of salads and other items. I tried a Korean styled dish which was just wonderful -- so much that I wished there was more of it! My partner had a few choices. Everything was lovely, delicious, and fresh. Prices are not super low, but this place is more "gourmet vegan" so they were at end of meal reasonable enough. Also recommend the mocktails here -- they're innovative and yummy. And for drinkers, there are beer and agave wine options. Have at it! You can be vegan and come out satisfied and happy all round. Great place. We're coming back. read more

Amazed AF. I cannot believe how good this place was. At first glance, we noticed that the menu was pricey, but the name and the creativity of dishes had us hooked. The best way to describe the outer appearance is a little kooky. Doesn't 'look' like a cauldron of vegan sorcery. But once we opened the door, the swoosh of aroma coming out of the kitchen made our jaws drop and drool. I wish we could have stayed. Tried placing an order over the phone and was told it would be ready in 25-30 minutes. This already being a tight-on-timing trip and going out of our way to support a vegan business, we arrived and was told that the order wasn't even placed (?!) and could enter it at that time. Claims the call cut out even after she confirmed the order over the phone so she didn't enter the order nor did she call back getting clarification. Work on your service and follow through and maybe you'll gain the respect of prospective customers. I'm not typically one to bash businesses, especially vegan ones, but this experience leaves a bad mark. read more

My husband & I drove from New Hampshire to get here, and it was well worth the trip. Excellent food beautifully prepared, superfriendly service, intriguing space, and ALL VEGAN!! Vegan AF is a new vegan restaurant that just opened in Brattleboro. My wife and I were anxiously awaiting their opening after hearing earlier this summer Brattleboro would finally have a plant based restaurant. Well, we went for dinner this weekend and I have to say it was a great experience. We chose to sit on the deck for our meal. The ambiance outside was great. You would never know that the deck sits close to a major intersection. Grape vines and screening give a really great peaceful feel to the space. As for the food, it was really great! We split an order of poutine and an order of jambalaya. Both had ample portions, reasonable pricing, and amazing flavor. I wouldn't have changed a thing. They also had creative drink choices and a good selection of beer and wine. The hubs and I went here for date night tonight. It was our first time eating here and it was AMAZING. It's such a sweet little space, the service was great, and the food was so so good. The dining room inside and out is cute AF. There's throw pillows on the benches ffs. You can draw with chalk on the table. The entire staff is friendly AF. The food is tasty AF. We felt welcomed AF when we came in about 15 minutes until closing. The initial greeting instantly made us feel ok about it. When pulled up to the address, it was dark out and I was like is this place even open? But we got out of the car and opened the door anyway. It's a pretty small place with a little bar up front, but the dining room had a nice ambiance. There were a few open tables that needed clearing as it was pretty late in the evening. But our server helped us out, and it turns out she was the only person working the room! She did so with grace and without getting frustrated. The food was very good although they got my husband's order wrong the first time. We had to wait for them to make the correct dish. Very impressed with the ambiance (though small), service, and especially the quality of the food. I'm always amazed when a kitchen the size of pickup truck can manage to make such great dishes. I went to this pretty new vegan restaurant in Brattleboro last night for the first time, but it will absolutely not be my last. It's small and just being discovered, because otherwise I don't think we could have gotten in. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Our table had the walnut pate for a starter ...so good, and then we had the pasta y fagioli and the thai inspired tofu bowl with rice noodles and peanut sauce for our mains. Really delicious. I thought my tofu bowl could have used a little lime, or maybe a little more lime, but otherwise it was wonderful. I'm very happy to have such an excellent new restaurant in town. The service was garbage there were only 4 couples at the time, we waited 2 hours to get appetizers. I'm sorry, you're not making fries and cauliflower wings from scratch. Then when I called over the waitress to show her the wings were cold, they made another batch 4 min later. No one else's food came out after that. Food tasted good but nothing spectacular.
