I love ramen, especially tonkotsu. This was the blandest I've ever had. My daughter and I were both very surprised.

I gave this review two stars because you do get a good portion size that will definitely fill you up and have enough for seconds should you choose to save the food. I really wanted my pork tonkotsu bowl to be super delicious but it just wasn't enough. The noodles were cooked just right but the broth did not have any spice or other flavoring. The tonkotsu bowl was well below the bowl I had just one week earlier at Torraku Ramen in San Franciso. The Hiro broth was very clear, water-like with few, if any, spices. Torraku overflowed with flavor with different seasoning mixing together for a full-flavored experience. My wife tried a chicken broth and she was equally unimpressed by the plain flavors. She is a tougher sell having lived in NYC. Our children received teriyaki chicken which was pounded thin. So, it looked like the chicken covered the plate of rice although it was very minimal chicken when you saw its paper-thin width. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Hiro and we will not be returning. read more

Very good ramen and very good service! I was pleasantly surprised by this little place. The restaurant isn't very big but it's plenty comfortable and the staff was warm and inviting. I had the pork tonkotsu ramen and it was so good that I took a chicken shoyu ramen with extra chicken home for my hubby. My pork bone broth was excellent, nice and rich. The husband really enjoyed his chicken ramen. We'll be back to this place for sure! read more

Don't be such a ramen snob that you refuse to eat ramen outside of big cities or Japan. If you're a fan of ramen and you find yourself in Ashland, you'll eat here. I ordered the vegetarian ramen and it hit the spot in my belly reserved for ramen. Not too salty but still savory, filled with many veggies. Just what I needed for a rainy chilly Ashland day. The takoyaki is the best I've tasted for being from a small city, highly recommend. The fried chicken popper things are a little too deep fried for me but if you're into that texture you would probably enjoy it. read more

Stopped by Hiro Ramen on our way to Shasta from Portland. I got the Japanese curry and my boyfriend got one of the ramens. Both dishes were absolutely amazing. The vegetable curry was so tasty and had the perfect consistency. The ramen broth was well flavored, not too salty, and the ramen noddles were soft. The portion of the curry was also huge! I only ate about half the meal and packed the rest home. The workers were attentive and kind. I accidentally left my backpack and the server came running out with it in hand. I wasn't expecting too much from this college town ramen joint but I was surprised. I opted for the shoyu broth and it was excellent. His combination of taré to broth was spot on. On a 'scouting' day, friends & I saw this place coming in, but no name was attached... today I was lucky to find parking directly across the street- we didn't have any good ramen place (like prime example in Eugene), so I got really excited when I saw the new sign! The ambience is bright & open, with simplistic decor. The staff are quiet, like the restaurant, but know what they're doing & what you do hear- every so often- is Japanese. The menu is simple, but I take that to mean they do a small amount very well, so I'm optimistic. I got an order of takoyaki (octopus pancake balls) & their pork shoyu (soy sauce) base. The takoyaki was surprising- a light crunch on the outside, yet soft- almost creamy- on the inside & nice chunks of octopus throughout. The ramen was exactly what I needed- a nice array of vegetables, the pork was well seasoned, the noodles were tender & toothsome, the broth was flavorful, & the portion was definitely filling! Overall the meal, with tax & tip, came to $17.50- I'd certainly would recommend stopping in, be it by yourself or with a small group & well worth it! read more

It costs 11 dollar for a bowl of pork ramen and it only comes with one very small slice of pork. It's 1.25 to per each additional vegetable. Wildly overpriced for what you get- an unsalted bowl of mediocre broth with noodles. Basically the only ramen option in town which must be the only reason it's still in business. This is no where near the best ramen I have ever had, but for our tiny town it is solid and consistent and even though it can be a spendy meal if you add any additions, that's unfortunately the norm for a tourist town like ashland. I do wish they wouldn't nickel and dime the customers so much for every single add on, but hey it's not my business to manage. I always get the tonkatsu broth with pork and occasionally add on their Kim chi which is always great and sometimes the crunchy onion bits which are yummy and they better be for 1.25 for a tablespoon or two. My son wanted ramen for dinner after a long day of hiking. Of course he got his parents started craving ramen as well and the closest ramen restaurant was about an hour away from our location when my son asked for ramen. My husband complied with his request and drove us to Hiro Ramen. We were starving by the time we arrived at the restaurant. Even though this is a small restaurant, we were able to get a table right away without any wait. We ordered 3 bowls of ramen, an order of tako yaki, and a side of extra pork. I thought the food was very tasty and the portion was big enough to satisfy my appetite. The tako yaki was very good as well. I also like that the noodle was very chewy.
