I saw on the menu and in reviews that the pork Ramen gets you one slice of meat, so I wanted to try to double up on protein to make this an even heartier meal on a cold day in November. I added on some chicken as an extra to the meal and it was very much worth it! Even with the extra meat I was able to finish the whole miso pork broth Ramen bowl, and I look forward to getting it next time as well. I loved that the basic green tea that they bring out in a cup with sushi design printed on them was complementary. I was there on a Saturday afternoon around 6 o'clock and the wait time for my food from the time that I ordered was less than 10 minutes, which makes this a great place to stop by after a play or a lecture before heading out of town. read more

The last year I have been eating a lot of ramen/noodles and been eating them in Rhode Island, Boston, Washington DC, California, North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina. Hiro Ramen is on the better end of the scale. They offer some good selections that you can choose to modify according to your taste. The noodles are good, the egg is great. The proportions of corn, to ginger, to sprouts to broth is very good. The service was good, and the price is reasonable. The main reason they are not 4 stars, is that the broth lacked a little luster. I would gladly eat here again - and I hope the chef keeps working on the menu. read more

As sad as it makes me, this restaurant is a shadow of its former self. When I started coming years ago, it was a wonderful experience: rich and well-spiced broth, melt in your mouth pork, and a menu to match. In my latest visit, the tonkatsu broth had barely any porky flavor, the pork was just slabs of mostly lean pork belly, and the whole dish lacked the flavor I feel like it needs. Ate here for the first time. The food was good and we struggled to understand others' reviews saying the food lacked flavor. I'll agree that some of the portions were a bit small on the value for money side, but it was "OK". But..... it was like a morgue. When we arrived we were the only table and it was deathly quiet. I found this place on Yelp while still back home in Las Vegas.was looking forward to driving out from Central Point (where I was visiting) just to try this place. As always I ordered Tonkatsu Ramen- no corn. The broth was lighter then I'm used to but packed with flavor. The noodles are soft and fresh. However it just goes down from there. I ordered extra egg (since it only comes with a 1/2 egg) and extra Chashu (since it only comes with 1 piece). The eggs were hard boiled. Not soft boiled. If you know ramen you know ramen has SOFT boiled eggs not hard. Both places I visted while in Oregon got it wrong. The Chashu was tasty but it didn't melt in yout mouth like Chashu is supposed to. It wasnt tough but something in between. My husband ordered the beef bulgogi. My FiL the teriyaki chicken. Both said the meat was okay but the rice wasn't anything remotely Japanese. They said the rice was more like a Uncle Bens. Disappointment. I did order my 4 year old son a bowl of rice and that seemed more authentic as it was sticky. The Pot of Jasmin Tea was nice and smooth. We came in for an early dinner and had the place to ourselves for a bit, though it filled up quickly towards the end of our meal. I knew I wanted soup and ordered the shoyu pork ramen. The menu is pretty simple but has options for vegetarians and meat loving ramen eaters alike. The portion was a good size and the broth was excellent (though I couldn't really smell because of my congestion). The service here was really great -- there was a family with kids next to our table and the waiter was very patient with them even when one of the kids spilled a full glass of water and the family needed to relocate to a different table. If a bowl of ramen is what you crave, then in Southern Oregon, this is probably the best place to feed it. A lot of fixings are included, with options to customize further, per your heart's content. A variety of broth bases (chicken, pork, veggie) and flavors (miso, shoyu, salt, tonkotsu) are also available. My personal preference is almost always the pork tonkotsu broth which is just really savory and rich compared to the alternatives. They also have other options aside from ramen like rice bowls, bulgogi, etc. So - if you have someone in your party that doesn't want to go the ramen route, just know you have flexibility. Yes - you can get better ramen in the Bay Area, but it's almost 300 miles closer to go here, so that's that. Service has always been super nice, which I appreciate. They can also sling out those ramen bowls pretty darn fast, in our experience. read more

Excellent lunch stop. It's nice in a "tourist town" like Ashland to find a genuinely good restaurant that doesn't feel like it's catering to the theater crowd. It is what it is, which is excellent ramen with great flavors and ingredients. Between us we got the shoyu, tonkotsu, and curry ramen and each was great in is own way. I just had the worst Asian food over ever eaten. It was a take-out meal. We had veggie Ramen, Tonkotsu Ramen. Both of those dishes were just OK at best. We also ordered a Curry Rice Bowl that tasted like it was made with institution beef gravy from a gallon can. I don't want you to think I'm just a picky eater. Out of hundreds of restaurant meals I've only NOT eaten 2 entrees, and this was one of them. I fished the few pieces of chicken out of the gravy, scraped the gravy off, and threw the rest away. Ashland is certainly a town chock full of restaurants and one might question whether more are needed. That said, Hiro Ramen is a welcome addition to the scene. It is a pleasantly appointed spot with delicious ramen. The choices are extensive with three basic broths and several styles of each - shoyu , shio, and miso (with tonkotsu offered for the pork stock). The service is helpful, friendly and quick and the food quite tasty. You should give it a try. read more

Yelpers: you typically don't let us down, but today you did. The service was solid and the food arrived promptly. However, the price for what you got was not in line. Spaghetti noodles is a great description of what we got. The vegetarian broth tasted a little better than water but not much flavor at all. The chicken curry noodles had one piece of fatty chicken in it. With edamame and tip, the bill came to $35. No offense, but we would have preferred the 10 packs of Top Ramen for $10 to what was offered today. We just had ramen in Irvine CA last week which was outstanding -- so it's not like we are anti-ramen. We just learned a lesson to not have Ramen in Ashland Or. read more
