This place is 10/10! The service is top notch- so friendly and attentive. I came for my birthday with my mom and my boyfriend, they were able to split our French dip 3 ways which was awesome! We also had the macadamia sushi roll- and it was one of the best rolls I've ever had! We also got the roasted chicken and it was so tender. Definitely on the pricier side but definitely worth it. Every dish I've had here has been spectacular. The reservations fill up fast! I had made a reservation weeks prior and the best we could get was 8:30, which worked out well but definitely on the later side. We showed up around 815 and they were able to seat us, and were so friendly. You can make reservations on their website - and they text to confirm, super easy!! This restaurant does everything right? Decor service food, consistent, beautiful very good job.

Staple restaurant. Consistency at its finest. I could eat here 7 days a week and be the happiest camper. To be straightforward, I'd eat at Hillstone (or Houston's) over any of the big steakhouses in town. What do they do best (because they do everything exceptionally well)? French Dip, Ribs, Burger and Crispy Chicken. The French dip is out of this world which is my go to, and I get it "dirty dip" style which the bartender taught me - rare meat, grilled onions, jack cheese and extra toasted bun. Thank me after you try it this way! The burger is spectacular and I suggest adding crispy bacon and avocado to change it up. The crispy chicken sandwich puts Chik Fil A to shame, it is truly incredible. The ribs are fall off the bone, the spinach dip is tasty - really you can't go wrong. The sushi here is not my favorite for some reason, but the sides are all great. And you'll spend a fraction of what the steakhouses will run you. It's probably a good thing I don't live in Phoenix- I would eat lunch and dinner here every single day. *Business casual plus One of my most favorite nice dinners out! We really enjoy their sushi, especially for lunch- it's somewhat upscale and unique; our favorite is the shrimp macadamia. Get the artichoke appetizer- they offer a limited amount every day (we were lucky enough to get the last one on this past visit). The Hawaiian steak is AMAZING- pairs well with Frog's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon. The dessert we almost always get is the hot fudge sundae (simple, delicious, and reasonably priced). From check in for our table to dessert- service is typically outstanding, however our last visit we did feel a bit rushed throughout the meal; we were asked at least 3 times if we were ready to order entrees- before we even received our first appetizer but had ordered 2.... we ordered a bottle of wine, 4 courses, and espresso so I didn't love that our server put the bill on the table along with our dessert. But the service was still really good- Hillstone is by far one of the busiest restaurants we frequent. Can't wait for the next visit- I really want to try the ribs. read more

What a disappointing experience at a classic Phoenix establishment. A very unprofessional ending to a nice happy hour with friends. We were there for drinks and food. One of our guests was cut off by the manager with no explanation, in a manner that was overtly loud in front of other patrons. A little too strict and perhaps choosey on the "dress code." My dad had just arrived to town and we were hungry so I took him to this restaurant. He was wearing a tank top and I honestly thought nothing of it because Hillstone isn't THAT fancy. We sat down, I ordered a club soda and he ordered an old fashioned. Immediately the manager approached us and told us the tank top was against policy in which I repeatedly apologized because I honestly didn't think it would be that big of a deal leading to embarrassment on my dads part. I really like Hillstone, the ambiance was very chill/relaxing. The food was good, I had a taste for some type of seafood so I got the salmon salad and I must've really wanted some seafood because the salmon was delicious. The service was good as well. Quite disappointing on our Sunday night visit. I have enjoyed lunches since their opening, but, Sunday dinner did not measure up. Our party of four was seated timely, and, we were greeted promptly by our waitperson. After a few minutes we ordered appetizers, which were delicious. We told our server we were celebrating a Birthday, as we placed our dinner orders. They arrived in a timely amount of time. The crab cakes were flavorless and really greasy, not at all browned on the outside. The Grilled Chicken Salad was so overdressed it was swimming in dressing. Houston's is way better, their sister restaurant. The fillet was medium-rare to rare, when it was ordered medium. The French dip was perfection. At the end of the dinner, two wanted de-calf, when we were told they do not serve de-calf. Buy a Keric machine. When she presented the check, there was not even a cupcake or acknowledgment of the birthday we were celebrating, when I saw a waitperson go by earlier with one with a lit candle. It does have a dress code, is fairly priced for the experience and consistent quality, and at times can be really busy, so be prepared and make reservations unless you are willing to wait. Now that we have the ground rules down and expectations, this is a great place to have a meal. The service is top notch, friendly and professional wait staff. The meals here are always consistently well prepared and seasoned, portion sizes are good and the food is certainly higher quality. Pescatarian here so I can vouch for the tuna and salmon salad being great! Cook on the salmon is always great! The restaurant is always clean and the experience is quite nice. Open kitchen that you can clearly see while walking through the restaurant is a nice touch. read more

The server was nice and the wait wasn't too bad. I just feel it missed the mark some. The entry was confusing and I noticed a few people trying to see where to enter. The inside was also kind of warm as if the air wasn't on all the way. The food was ok my husband enjoyed the ribs but my French dip sandwich was just ok. My friends and I are well-resourced and able to dine anywhere in the Biltmore area we wish. We have long enjoyed Hillstone, but no longer. NO reservations for more than 4, GOODLUCK getting on the waitlist for more than 4 and EVERYONE had BETTER be on property. NO THANK YOU! Seasons 52 is way more quiet and welcoming. The Collins has an amazing menu. The Capitol Grille is more expensive, but their service is amazing and WITHOUT attitude. Clearly Hillstone is in a position to be obnoxious. We are regulars, always treated well, and usually have an exquisite experience. Three of us (parents with teen son) nicely dressed came in for Father's Day today and first off, our server was kinda wild. She was friendly enough and was knowledgeable enough but she talked loudly like a server would at a five and dine. Not mellow or classy as the all usually are. She left us wanting quite often. Walked by without checking in several times. Missing for long periods of time. We even had to call her over to order our entrees. This was the first time we had ever been left without checking in or offering anything. As always, we ordered a lot! Sushi, margarita, tea, beer, trout, newish appetizer bok choy, rosemary focaccia, chicken sandwich, and more. Everything came to the table out of order - the rosemary focaccia being one of the last dishes missing any peppers at all. Evening tasted good, as usual. The problem today was that the chicken sandwich was pounded very, very THIN and we have never experienced that before. It's usually a nice thick breast, fried to perfection. It was tasty and fried nicely, but oh, so, thin! That was very disappointing. I read here that about 3 mo. ago it happened to someone else too. So I thought I'd speak up here. At some point a random male server hurriedly slapped down our bok choy side on top of menus in the middle of the table with it a word. Hummmm? Also, the nice little house salad no longer comes with warm beets or walnuts. We found that out the last time we were there however hoping that they were just out of them that day. I'm not sure why they changed it. That's one of the things that made the nice little house salad so wonderful. I hope they consider bringing it back. It seems like Hillsstone may have hired a lot of new people to make sure that they had enough servers to cover full restaurant, maybe for Father's Day but didn't have enough time to properly train them all. Hostess seemed frazzled too. Well, it seems like things were off today - lately? And that chicken sandwich was such a disappointment. On Sunday after service I took six adults and one child to have lunch here. I was told they do not seat more then six to a table. I understood that and offered to sit at separate tables. I was then told that they do not separate parties. They refused to accommodate us in any way. I have been a patron of Hillstone since it's sister restaurant "Houston's" closed across the street. I am a Christian, a Pastor and a African American. I have never been treated in this manner. It was very clearly racial bias and I will never return and will urge others not to as well. Their handshaken margaritas are what I think of when I have memories of Hillstone. Recommended by a friend. I am so glad they introduced us to this fabulous place because we have returned many, many times over. We've enjoyed many dishes but, the desserts stand out the most to me. A chocolate Sundae elegantly presented with hot fudge served in a beautiful sauce boat to drizzle over your vanilla ice cream. The key lime pie is a sweet and tart delicacy. My ultimate favorite to have is the smoked salmon served warm full of flavor and probably the best I've tasted. Hillstone is a must to try while in the Arcadia area of Phoenix. read more

Born & raised Phoenician here and this is worth the hype and always has been. Favorite restaurant of all time, it never lets me down, I never leave hungry or disappointed, and I am always pleased with my food and experience. It's dark inside so if that bothers you, sit outside. Their margaritas, spinach and artichoke dip, French dip sandwich, French fries, Thai noodle salad, kale salad, tuna tartare are fabulous- every single time. And the sushi UGHHH THE SUSHI- the Thai tuna roll, coconut shrimp roll and spicy tuna roll are truly to die for and I'd consider myself a sushi snob! This spot is always a good time. Depending on time of day it can be tricky to get a seat at the bar but they do have a special wait list if needed. The dining room area is dimly lit and has earthy tones to provide a soothing experience. This visit (I've had many here) was for lunch w a good friend of mine (his first time). We didn't wait too long to get a seat at the bar. We ordered a few drinks, which were refreshing and tasty. We started with two of my favs an order of the Osaka style pressed sushi and the spicy tuna roll. They both lived up to their excellent reputation which was great because I raved about them to my buddy. For lunch plates we got the Ding's crispy chicken sandwich and the hamburger both with fries. The hamburger was cooked perfectly to order (medium) and the chicken was very good as well. We rounded off lunch with another order of cocktails. The hostess was very polite (I originally inquired about a table) and the service in the bar was superior. I love the rotisserie chicken though... it's just so delicious and that kale panzanelle is so good too. This restaurant is super close to my house and I had heard good things about it so I finally went to try it out. I went around lunch time and it wasn't super busy so I walked right in with no wait time or issue. I started with the Deviled eggs and I was hoping for savory but they were definitely a sweeter flavor profile. I didn't love it because I am a way more savory person but they weren't bad at all. I then ordered the famous French dip and I got the nice little house salad on the side. I thought the salad would be small but it was actually quite a bit larger than I expected and it was good! I am a salad person and liked it a lot. The French dip was good as well, I got horseradish on the side. I like the French roll that it comes on and the horseradish was the perfect kick. My waitress was also attentive and was there to refill my water which I was going through rapidly. I guess I was a little dehydrated that day lol. I did feel like she could've had a little bit more enthusiasm though, especially when it came to answering my questions. She seemed as though she wasn't super interested in answering anything I asked about. Everything about our visit here was on point. We got there on a busy Friday night and was told there'd be about a 30 minute wait for a table but we were free to sit on the patio and order a drink. The patio is the perfect place to lounge while you wait. And I was surprised with how quick and friendly the service was! Better yet, our wait wasn't even close to 30 minutes and a manager came to grab our drinks and take us to our table. They even transferred our appetizer (spinach dip - they're known for it) right to our table. From there, even more fantastic service from our waiter! He gave us a few of his favorite items, so we decided to go with the prime rib dip sandwich, with a side of the cashew salad and loaded baked potato. Everything was amazing!!! Hands down one of the best prime rib sandwiches I have ever had. And both sides were fantastic as well!!!
