I really enjoy going to Highlight Coffee in Glendale. Stopped by their location in Altadena because I had never been and found myself in the area. I personally prefer Glendale. Service is a bit friendlier there. This location felt cold and bare. Although, I must admit that if the indoor seating was available, I could easily find myself studying here next to the window nook. Would definitely recommend their speciality lattes. We are hooked on the butterscotch and orange vanilla ~ delicious! read more

The best decaf mocha with almond milk, EVER!! I came here after the gym to get a coffee and oh my goodness what a surprise! They really understand the coffee and flavor. The chocolate they use for the mocha is fabulous! I am a coffee snob and this place is 10 stars! Definitely a must try. And the place is clean and bright and cheery!! read more

I found out about this coffee shop last year while looking for a home in the area. We ended up getting a place a bit further away in North Pasadena but end up coming back this way for the best coffee! There's not too many reasonably priced good coffee shops in the area and they are the best one in my opinion. In addition, they let us paint a community mural for Pasadena & Altadena (since they are located on the border) on their side wall. Thank you for your support of local artists and we hope that you can open up your doors once again for sit down service when this pandemic is over. Amazing people, great coffee in an up & coming neighborhood. Who can not enjoy the foothill views of the mountains with a cup of coffee? Look forward to being a regular in the area! read more

Wish I discovered this place pre-quarantine because it looks like it would be a peaceful place to get some work done or meet up with a friend. The coffee is great and the portions sizes are large. My favorites here are their iced latte and iced latte with oat milk. You order at the window at the front and they will bring your drink to the window when it is finished. It was a safe, minimal contact experience. Parking can be a little bit of a challenge as there is a small lot but the spaces are reserved. Best to find street parking. Looking forwarding to coming back for my next caffeine fix! read more

Visited on a Tues around 11am. Parking is limited but was able to find a spot around the block. Ordered a chai and a pastry and was able to secure a spot to sit. Pastry was good and unfortunately the chai was very watered down. Staff were friendly. The music was a bit on the louder end and at some point got louder and the room got colder. My colleague and I felt like we were transported to a rave in the artic . Will return to try a different beverage before deciding if this will become a regular spot. Pros outweighed the cons. read more

It was raining this morning, so I was craving some warm, specialty coffee. I saw the wonderful Yelp reviews of Highlight and decided to give it a try, and I've got to say, their coffee certainly lives up to their 5-star reviews. We ordered the Butterscotch Latte, the Orange Vanilla Latte (with almond milk -- no extra charge!), and a Cappuccino. The Butterscotch Latte tastes exactly as it sounds; I'm not the biggest fan of butterscotch/caramel, but the flavor was aromatic and not too overpowering. The Orange Vanilla latte had a silky, smooth texture. At first sip, my mom -- a Cappuccino aficionado-- loved the Cappuccino. The service was very friendly, the restaurant's outer appearance was cute, and I appreciated the safety precautions taken for Covid. The menu is minimalistic, yet it has a great selection. I'll be back to try out the other drinks! read more

After a morning hike, no better place to stop by for an iced coffee and pastry. The leather couch is soft and cozy, the cafe is spacious and open. The art display is cool. All baristas are kind and not pretentious, you can ask them any question about the coffee. And above all the coffee it's really good, as in the beans and where they source from. read more

I came here while I was waiting to have a light lunch with my friends at Prrrys a few feet down the street from here. What caught my attention was this mint green building. Due to COVID, dining in is definitely not an option but looking inside, the place is so brightly lit it would make for a cute coffee date spot! The worker who took my order was incredibly friendly. I forgot my card but they still accepted cash, and luckily I didn't have any big bills to break. I was excited to try this coffee spot and did so a few months ago. The first experience was underwhelming. I thought, "well, maybe its because there was a "few people" rush that that may have been the reason for the lack of GREAT customer service. Sure, the question "what can i get for you?" was the guys way of usung basic customer service skills I guess what i was wanting and maybe i set myself up for disappointment setting that expectation was more of an experience ive received at places like Chula coffee, Rosebud coffee Manana coffee to name a few . so i said..ok ill give it a 2nd chance. My partner seemed to have enjoyed the espresso shot the first go round. Fast forward to today. Parking: absolutely terrible! (they had 3 open spaces that were blocked by cones. Circles around several times and finally just parked in the red zone Not greeted upon entry like the first time and there was zero rush at 10am. Sure, the menu is impressive but boy the latte was lackluster and absolutely disappointing. Customer service is lacking of big joyful personality...but rather stale and unimpressive. So I cheated on my local coffee shop today ... :/. I've been eyeing this shop for a long time. We had a rare few hours by ourselves so my husband and I had a coffee date. I ordered an oatmilk latte with orange syrup and a cookie. It was pretty good hot and the orange was slight and not overpowering. I wanted to try something new, this was a new taste for me. At this time, 3/21, you can't even walk in the shop. The prices were about normal range and they had a steady flow of repeat customers, a good sign that the coffee is good. Highlight Coffee is one of my three favorite coffee shops in the Altadena/Northeast Pasadena area. The other two are Lavender & Honey and Amara Kitchen (which, for being mainly a food spot, makes a surprisingly great latte). I am a coffee shop junkie and I have tried out so many in the area. Highlight is one of the best. I judge coffee shops on three criteria: (1) Coffee quality: is this better than the (very good) shots of espresso and lattes that I can make at home? The baristas at Highlight Coffee clearly take a lot of care to make amazing drinks. I keep wanting to branch out to their hot drinks, but I can't stop ordering the pineapple-lime espresso tonic, which is unusual, perfectly balanced, and refreshing. I'm obsessed with it. (2) Service: I see the same two or three employees every time I go. They are so patient with me and my four-year-old son and smile kindly at him when he orders his child-sized hot chocolate. My son has spilled his drink more than once, and they have been so understanding and even offered to remake his drink. (3) Food quality: Sugarbloom pastries. The best coffee-shop pastry selection I've ever experienced. The ambiance is also nice - a mix of people doing work and people hanging out and chatting. read more

Listen. The pineapple-lime espresso tonic was a revelation. Those flavors. Yum. I can't wait for summer now that I'll have that refreshing drink to look forward to. But don't need to wait for summer to go back for more. Stumbled across that rec by some loyal customers encouraging support of this establishment with the other spot opening down the street soon and am so grateful. CoffeeEdpeditions #1 Quaint coffee shop in Altadena located off of Lincoln ave. First of all I just want to preface by saying I am big on customer service. A lot of the coffee shops I have recently been to are my firsts. Highlight coffee was no different. Simple shop but wonderful se five. Cashier and barista were both friendly. Happy to offer their recomendaría a being that it was my first time there. The Freddo espresso is sooo good. Coffee was smooth and creamy. The espresso was not burnt or bitter at all. Definitely such a hit at this shop. Will definitely be happy to go back and try something new. read more

Dropped by during COVID hours, which means no indoor seating but the outdoors building is already eye candy. Super dope minty green establishment which is easy to spot. Inside it appears all white, a very clean minimalistic style which I dig. It was early morning so I opted for their drip. I am one of those people that judges coffee shops by their drips and/or espresso. "Why?" You might ask? Well drip coffee gives you the truest, most strip down embodiment of the coffee beans that are being used. I am picky.. I know...but that's how I judge my coffee by. Staff: Friendly, helpful, happy. ++ Coffee: silky, smooth yet semi bold , aromatic, and easy to drink without a bitter or sharp after taste. Loved it! Good drip coffee does not need any sweetener or milk added... its delicious as is and Highlight got it down. Ps: they use different beans for their espresso based drinks, than for their drip. +++ Extra points: menu mentioned that there was no up-charge for alternative milks( almond or oat)... love that, appreciate that, and support that! ++ I'll be back when In the neighborhood! read more

Came here for a little coffee date with my wife. This was my first time coming here. And I am so glad I did. My wife got a butterscotch latte, and I got a pineapple-lime espresso tonic. The drink my wife had was very good. Had the right amount of sweet to it. My drink is for anyone feeling adventurous. All the flavors in the drink meld so well together, not one thing over power the other. A perfect balance. They had a beautiful display of partries. So i will definitely come back for a pastry next time. read more

I don't normally review coffee shops, but this place seriously impressed. Highlight of Highlight coffee was the Latte. I thought all lattes were the same, but somehow this latte stood above all other lattes I've had in my lifetime. At 82 years old I have had a lot of lattes. Even better they don't charge extra for oat or almond milk. I don't understand why the norm is to charge extra for substitute milk. I appreciate you Highlight coffee for setting the trend. This new spot is a new fav. I been to the Highlight in Glendale and I'm so happy now that they opened one in my hood. The coffee is so good, if you a coffee snob like me, you won't be disappointed. They have a variety of drinks - the basic coffee drinks and a few specialty drinks as well. I got an espresso tonic with pomegranate syrup and it also had a lemon peel and it was bombbb. Never had that drink anywhere and loved it. There is plenty of seating and there is even a couch if you wanna chill with a friend. Street parking is the only option but it ain't too bad. read more

Coffee here is great! I can't remember where they source their beans, but it was of high quality. I would definitely come back here for good coffee in the future. Their indoor area and bathrooms are closed off to the public, so it's really more of a grab and go spot. Parking is also limited. read more

I came in on a Sunday morning and it was easy to find parking in their small lot. I ordered a macchiato with almond milk. The barista was very adamant about making my drink just the way I like it even after I said, "it's really fine!" Very sweet of him to keep making it until the foam was just right. Thank you, barista with the Habibi necklace! There are only 2 tables, 1 couch, and 2 small areas with a barstool. The seating was not comfortable for me, but that's just personal preference. They have free WiFi which is great! The coffee they make is strong, so brace yourself! I would recommend highlight coffee for your next artisanal morning cuppa joe. read more

Awesome. Great coffee in the neighborhood. Highlight coffee serving up Pasadena & Altadena Still in their soft opening phase the place is nice cool and spacious. A great pit stop in the neighborhood I consider a coffee desert. Not anymore. Frank and the crew can serve up a great cup of coffee! I had a "cafe au lait". But my usual is a cortado or a breve cap. Plenty of parking on the street. Come in sit on the couch and enjoy a cup or two. read more

Quality you can taste from the first sip! Ordered the iced latte with almond milk and a splash of butterscotch syrup and it was perfection. The syrup is not overpowering and adds the perfect amount of sweetness I desire in my coffee. The employees were so sweet and friendly as well. Apparently they make their own syrups in house with real ingredients, vanilla beans in the bottles and all! read more

Great coffee shop! The prices are reasonable and they don't charge for almond/oat milks! They are dog-friendly, which is a huge plus. The pastries are also always delicious, and they always have a few vegan and gluten-free options. This is a perfect place to work or hang out, everyone is super friendly. The chai is delicious and cardamom-forward. Some notes: I would recommend asking for your drink extra hot because they often come out barely warm. Absolutely LOVE this place. I have been a fan of highlight since Glendale and I'm so glad it's in pasadena now! There's free 90 minute parking behind the structure. However, the room capacity of 4 people does make for a longer line than most other coffee shops. The interior is very classy, tastefully decorated and the baristas are very friendly! All their specialty espresso drinks are double shots. Their top sellers are their Toasty (a milk tea latte), Vienna Latte, and Matcha Latte. Almond and oat milk substitutions are free of charge! I opted for their matcha (iced & sweetened, with oat milk) this time for the lower caffeine amount, and for the price point ($7.25) I think this was an average drink. The drink is a little gritty and not too sweet (which I prefer), but for better quality matcha at the same price point, I would go elsewhere. Looking forward to coming back and trying their other drinks!

I was able to find parking nearby luckily and that was probably the hardest part. However, it was also really hot that day so I came prepared with a big hat because I saw the line wrap around the building. I was able to catch it when I was at a lull and the line moved pretty quick. A couple of other items that looked really good that I need to try. I know there is some seasonal items that sell out really quick to keep an eye out of. The chocolate croissant was great and I'll have to wait to try some of their other items next time which I also hear is amazing. The dining area isn't the biggest popular places. It's probably not the easiest to find a spot to sit and enjoy unless you time it correctly.

The coffee tasted like regular coffee I would get at a convenience store and nothing special. The Iced Coffee Rose ($7.45) was cold brew with a rose cream top. I requested it with light rose oat milk and light sugar. However, it still seemed too sweet. The rose cream top didn't taste floral at all. The coffee was nothing special so I definitely won't recommend. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with my drinks and I felt like the drinks were overpriced so I won't recommend or return unfortunately.

Great background music plays throughout the main area of the room. There are many customers that come in to pick up their order that they have placed over the phone. The staff here is always busy cleaning, preparing coffee, or helping customers. Depending upon the time that you are there you may have to wait for other customers to complete their order. I love that they have a selection of tables, and counter space. I've never had a long wait to find a place to sit. They also have a few tables located outside with umbrellas. Depending upon the time of day parking can be a problem. There is off street parking along Allen and other side streets. I highly recommend this Pasadena Gem!
