A true hidden gem nestled right in the heart of the healing Altadena community. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and helped orient me around the space -- small tables inside with cozy seating both in the front and back. It has that warm, neighborhood-coffee-shop feel that's getting harder to find. The cashier took the time to walk me through the menu and pastry options, which I really appreciated. I landed on the Lil Sumtin' flat white -- made with an herbal and floral honey blend -- and it was absolutely delightful. Paired it with their gluten-free pound cake, which was surprisingly moist and delicious. No compromises on flavor whatsoever. Bonus points: very dog friendly, street parking available, and a small shared lot with neighboring small businesses that I'm already planning to explore on my next visit. After living nearby for several years I finally checked out Unincorporated on a Saturday afternoon, ordering an iced and regular lattes ($6.50 each). They were tasty and well made. Interior is clean and unassuming, staff friendly and approachable. Prices are a little high but not unreasonable for a local coffee shop experience. Parking in the back with a nice patio behind. Yesterday my best friend and I wanted to support locally. Unincorporated is adorable! The staff are friendly and just a ray of sunshine in the morning. Exactly what I need and what the community needs. I ended getting the Fancy Latte. When I saw sprinkle in the description, I said SIGN ME UP. It was a creamy, velvety treat with just the right amount of sweetness. The sprinkles on the top make it playful and fun, almost too pretty to drink. If you're hunting for the best vanilla syrup in Altadena (or dare I say, East LA--don't fight me on that!), Unincorporated Coffee is a must. I always get their vanilla latte because that syrup is just delicious. It doesn't taste fake--though watch me find out it's out of a bottle--but it's legit. The location is a bit tucked away, so if you're not local, it's a little trip. I actually discovered them after the Eaton Fire, when they became a community hub. If there's one upside from that, it's finding this spot. I love that it's close to the hikes I do near JPL and the Angeles Forest. On my drive home, it's a one-minute detour--a perfect treat. They have a nice outdoor patio I always consider working from someday. The staff is great, and I have to shout out Aaron (I think that's how it's spelled)--he's so friendly that even I, the worst with names, remember him. That says a lot! Now, my one gripe: the price point. I get it--high rent, costs, and so on. But if you're like me, still searching for steady work, you feel the pinch. Coffee prices are wild these days, though, so I understand. Still, upcharges for syrup make me laugh. Vanilla latte should just be standard! That said, mostly glowing review. It was raining and we what the run club come over to the event to celebrate rose bowl half marathon preview and enjoy some pastries to support the Altadena businesses. Parking is limited so definitely walk and find street parking. The lot is small but come early to get an early spot. Place is quaint and has outdoor seatings with canopy in the back and few seats out front but with the rain we were all cramped inside. Coffee I must say is delicious. The Americano was made amazingly. Had to get two cups! I got the cinnamon roll And it was perfect after a nice stroll through the city. Ordering takes time so come and be patient. This place is very special to me, and I'm kicking myself that I haven't written a review until today. When Unincorporated opened (in maybe 2017?), I lived quite literally next door to their cafe. I may have been there on opening day actually! The coffee was great, the sense of community was great, the muffins were great... all of it! In 2019, I moved to Arizona, but I always held this local shop in my heart. Then, in 2025, when the fires erupted in Altadena, I was worried sick for everyone in my former home. Unincorporarted survived the blaze and this past weekend when I was in LA, I made the trip out here -- and of course -- the coffee was great! They assured me they're staying busy, the new clientele they're serving (at the moment) is Army Corps, FEMA, and construction workers. Running a small business is so hard for anyone, but it's particularly hard when you're running it in a community so affected by such loss. The kind of coffee place that knows your name or at least makes you feel like a neighbor. They sell coffee drinks, whole beans, which of course they grind for you. Heck they even ground my Trader Joe's coffee which I mix into their Three Idiots blend. They are increasingly selling bakery items and breakfast burritos. Also Chemex coffee pots and Aeropress filters. Plus branded shirts, hats and cups. But it's the mix of coffee and the warmth of their service that brings me back. Idk, I have mixed feelings about this place. I liked that they were so close to my workplace and liked the idea of supporting a local shop, but there were multiple things that disappointed me that I feel could be better. I visited this shop maybe like 7-8 times over the course of a couple years. I like the pastries here, and the Mrs. Gemedech pourover. Aside from the Mrs. Gemedech pourover, their other pourover offerings have been disappointing. I have also not enjoyed their milk coffee drinks, they taste somewhat burnt to me. From trying their light roasts and talking to baristas, it does seem like their roasts skew darker, which is common but I'm just not a fan of. I've found the non-coffee milk drinks to be inconsistent - sometimes good, sometimes not. The service here is hit-or-miss. I have interacted with a few friendly baristas, a couple more neutral ones, and baristas that look like they'd rather be doing anything else in the world than talking to you. It also kind of sucks when those more neutral and negative baristas become a lot more friendly talking to the next person in line after you. Idk maybe they're regulars or friends, but it is not a great feeling. I think this place is good if you are nearby and want to pick up coffee and a pastry. But as someone who's not in the area anymore, I wish the business luck and hope they improve, but it's unlikely I will visit again. read more

#99 in my Coffeeshop Chronicles. I was in the neighborhood and decided to finally give this place a try. Unincorporated is a hipster third wave coffeeshop with cold brew based iced lattes and espresso based hot lattes. After getting a few suggestions from the employee behind the register, I ordered one of their signature lattes and a seasonal latte. The Lil Sumtin is an 8 ounce hot latte with honey, cardamom, and saffron, while Thee Holiday Special is a coconut and macadamia milk latte with maple syrup and Himalayan salt on top. I liked the holiday latte better than the other lackluster drink, but to be honest I really didn't love either coffee. I also tried one of their pastries which the employee described as gingerbread with custard inside, only it was actually lemon curd instead of custard. I didn't like the lemon curd filling as it overpowered the Gingerbread and was all I could taste, and it really wasn't worth the $6 price tag either. Anyways, I'm glad I finally checked this place off my list, but will I be coming back? Doubtful. read more

I was greeted by Paco, store's plaster statue seagull mascot. Lol. I perused their coffee list and ordered an iced coffee (16oz), which has strong flavor but smooth; not even milk wasn't powerful to counter it. Moreover, they sell merch and swag, coffee/tea bags and brew equipments which was a bit pricey compared to similar coffee shops. I like the atmosphere, good service and nice interior. Staff were affable, competent and professional. This is a good place to study or chill with friends while you sip your coffee/tea drink. Stopped by after an amazing hike to echo mountain. The parking lot was small , but luckily I was able to snag a spot as someone was leaving . The spaces are tiny so if you have a bigger car , you may have to opt for street parking . On a Sunday at 11am , this place was pretty busy , but there were still a few tables available . I ordered something on an old menu and luckily they were nice enough to make it for me . I also grabbed a peach pastry - the name escapes me at the moment , but it was so good . It was sweet, but not overly so . The service was great and all the workers looked like they actually enjoy working there. This spot is a gem and not to be missed ! read more

Update: The mural I mentioned in my previous review is thankfully gone after a year. The shop has completely transformed in the past few months. They have moved the cafe to a different location in the same little plaza, and turned the old 2-store location into something they call "the nest" which is mostly closed to the public. The new space is quite cramped, and the indoor area is generally a significant downgrade from the last space. I'm not sure what "the nest" is being used for, but I'm guessing it's some sort of central HQ for all the new shops they've been opening around LA. At the end of the day, to me, the owners have opted for a worse experience for their Altadena patrons, in exchange for more support for their growing empire. It's kind of the way of the world, I guess. Here's a real hipster moment: for me, a lot of the charm and magic the shop had 5+ years ago is gone. There used to be a weird wooden seagull carving called Paco inexplicably on the bar; now Paco is plastered on cute shirts and mugs. I'm guessing the business is lucrative, but, for whatever it's worth, the chill homey vibe of the original shop is now just a memory. The coffee and coffee drinks are still stellar. The pastries are still hit-and-miss. The service is also hit-and-miss, sometimes grumpy, though longtime barista Aaron is still a complete delight and doing his best to keep spirits high among customers and fellow staff alike. Five star coffee, two star vibe, plus one for Aaron, so I'll call it 3.5 - 4 stars and a real mixed bag of highs and lows. read more

Go to for fresh cup of joe. Drinks: This place has some of my favorite coffee in the Northern LA area. They have a great rotation of drip coffees and their vanilla lattes is always my favorite. Not too sweet with a great punch from the espresso. The roast their own beans in-house so their is a wonderful aroma in the air at all time. Atmosphere: The space is decorated pretty cool. They kind of have a hispanic/Mexican mascot and lots of cool black and white deco on the walls. They also offer a lot of coffee gear to buy. Love their "sexy fresh" sign our front too. Customer Service: Service here is usually fine. Nothing over the top. but probably because of how busy it usually it. The baristas have all made my coffee correctly, the cashier gets me in and out and I'm happy with my experience. Parking: Parking can be a nightmare but the lot expands in the back of the building.
