Delicious coffee, delicious pastries, immaculate design & ambiance, and charming baristas. Located on the corner of Green and Mentor is this super cool but unassuming building. The exterior wall with large windows is dotted with minimalist seating. Just a couple small tables and chairs to enjoy your morning latte as passersby greet you. As soon as you enter, the rich dark academia decor instantly sets a calming tone. The baristas are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I ordered an iced honey latte but I was lucky to taste the hot vanilla latte as well and both were nutty, rich, perfectly sweetened and delicious. I fell in love with the place and hope to visit again soon Note: Outside food and drinks not allowed so don't try to bring the previous night's dessert with you. :P

2/11/2026 Stockholm Fog (The perfect of Mocha + Chai flavor blend) They gave me a sample of this as iced drink. Spicy, but very creamy and slightly on the sweeter side. You can taste the chai flavors which is forward in this drink, but due to the creaminess of the milk and the chocolate, it is a harmonious drink. It is slightly more on the sweet side. Cappuccino (2oz double shot of Classic or Modern Espresso + the milk of your preference Served in a 5oz cup) It was good and creamy. Did add a packet of sugar as usual. Light sourness and bitterness of the espresso. The temperature could be hotter, as it would probably get cold much sooner than later. Personally, it wasn't my favorite cappuccino, as I like my drinks a bit more frothier. Customer Service The person taking my order was nice, but at the same time, I can tell she was a bit annoyed at my many questions of their coffee options. However, she got through it with a smile! The barista making the drink was very nice and encouraged me to order a cappuccino with chocolate, as she made one for herself earlier. I was going to, but maybe another time. Space / Ambiance It is a nice modern space, mostly dark furniture and tables and chairs of metal and wood. About 9 tables of 2. All of them were taken by those working on their laptops. There was a bench in the corner towards the wall, which were directly facing the tables right in front of them, which would be an awkward seat to take. Gladly I snagged a table near the front and it was nice and cozy. Parking Free street parking. Not a whole lot of spots close to the coffee shop, but if you do find one, you would never want to leave!

Was this the best coffee I've had in the LA area? No, was it good? Yes! My go to drink is a Flat white with oat milk and this place had it, but unfortunately it lacked the rich velvety smoothness of a delicious ristretto shot. It wasn't super bitter so I was happy about that. The service was great, staff was friendly and super helpful to the customer before me and to me. It's a cute little shop so I will definitely be back to try something else. Of interest, street parking is free but hard to come by.

Came here on a Friday to really enjoy and take in this coffee spot. Didn't disappoint and was able to have a nice and slow morning. I had their macchiato and a cheese danish. Come and visit this place on a quieter part of Pasadena.

The Boy and The Bear in Pasadena is a wonderful spot for great coffee and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Colombian coffee and decor influences with latin music is a welcomed break from the cookie cutter coffee shops. The space is charming and thoughtfully designed, making it the perfect place to catch up with friends, get some work done, or simply enjoy a quiet moment with a really good cup of coffee. 4.8* Coffee 4.8* Service 5* Ambiance The coffee is smooth, rich and clearly made with high quality beans and roasted to perfection. By the time we arrived, they had sold out on all their pastries.... I guess you have to get there earlier in the day to enjoy their very popular sweets. I loved my macchiato as it had a great ratio of espresso and milk. The latte was also good however, next time, I want to try their other specialty brews.

8.50 for this matcha that's pale green and tastes like pure milk
    Carolyn H.

Their matcha lattes are pale green. I was so distraught.. I needed a good matcha today and after paying out $8.50, this is the quality of latte I was handed. I came in because videos on TikTok were showing vibrant matcha lattes at your store. It seems like this is a consistency issue. Why am I paying the same amount as others to get a matcha that has far less matcha powder.. I am beyond disappointed. Please train all baristas to use the same amount and this amount of powder SHOULD NOT be the benchmark... paid almost 9 dollars for a cup of oat milk.

What a great vibe! Plenty of places to work or study, connect with friends or read a book while enjoying a beverage. The location is really beautiful, smells good, and is in a charming location. The coffee was good - I think? I'm new to drinking coffee and wanted a latte or cafe au lait. I'm not a good judge! The people behind the counter were competent, a bit aloof, but that's kind of the vibe.

We made our way through our Coffee Passport! The Boy & The Bear was our favorite spot, and by far! The barista helping us out gave us a run-down on the pastries and provided great recommendations, based on our preferences. I'm in my Americano era and wowee, this one was phenomenal! The ambiance was incredibly relaxing and seemed like a great place to do remote work or take a scenic stop while going along bustling Colorado. Parking: street parking available on greet street, will likely have to walk a block or two, unless you park at a lot nearby

Got a cold brew and by first sip I knew it was going to be a great drink. The lady was very helpful and fast. Seemed like a pretty chill place to sit inside or outside. Had some cool merchandise to buy. I'd go back again.

3.5 Stars Coffee 3/5 Service 5/5 The Boy & The Bear. It's a cute name and the logo is cute too. This coffee roastery was established in 2012. They source their coffee from small farms in Columbia that are dedicated to producing top-quality beans. I've heard great things about TBTB and since it's near my gym I decided to stop in for a pre-workout caffeine fix. The design aesthetic is sleek & modern. The first thing you notice is the stunning mural on the wall, which emits art-deco vibes. There are tables along the wall in case you want to work or just relax in one of the comfy chairs. The lady that took my order was very friendly. I saw that they had a seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte, so I requested it with almond milk. The latte was smooth & creamy. I could taste a hint of the spices but the coffee flavor was non-existent. It was more milk than coffee. I should have asked for an extra shot of espresso. I was also shocked that it was $10! Ay, caramba! Definitely not worth the price. They also offer classes such as Latte Art & Pour Over Brewing Method, which you can sign up for on their website. *Street Parking

Yuzu Matcha. Surprisingly good and smooth matcha. When you want caffeine but nothing milky
    Graciela C.

Had the Yuzu Matcha and it was great. Wow, refreshing and interesting drink. I never thought I could have matcha without any type of milks but this works. The texture is also very smooth as opposed to some grainy matchas. Great high quality drink that was truly refreshing. Very 'sipplable' and didn't feel heavy which is what I was looking for! Must get!!

I always passed this place so I decided to try it. It's cute and spacious inside. I ordered a hot mocha with almond milk. It was good, but not really hot. I then ordered their popular cinnamon roll and it was good. It was not that hot either after they heated it. Service was outstanding the ladies working were very helpful. Easy parking is located in the rear of the coffee shop.

Delicious coffee, relaxing space, and friendly baristas! I recently spent some time in Pasadena and The Boy & The Bear was down the street from my hotel which was so great to have. The shop is really nice with lots of plants and had a chill vibe. I had lattes and sparkling Americanos during my few visits but the sparkling Americano was definitely my favorite because I don't get to have it in Vegas. I'll definitely be back when I visit Pasadena again!

It was really interesting that one of the Americanos was made with Ecuador Los 4 Mundos beans, and the other was made with Colombia El Diviso. When a staff member brought over my hot Vanilla Latte, I asked to make sure it was decaf. He took it back just to double-check for me, and then confirmed that it was indeed decaf. The coffee here is all delicious, and the staff are incredibly friendly, which I really liked. However, the chairs were quite uncomfortable to sit in, and the Vanilla Latte was still pretty sweet even though I ordered it "less sweet." Still, the coffee tastes so good and the staff are so incredibly kind, so it's a really great coffee shop. P.S. A funny thing: They had dog treats in a jar. I immediately thought of my boss's absolutely super, incredibly cute dogs, so I asked for an empty cup and packed some treats to bring to the office for them today. But when I finished my coffee and was heading out, I totally forgot and accidentally threw the cup of treats away along with the empty coffee cups. OMG. (But seriously, all dogs and cats always absolutely love me. Hahaha. When I get to work, my boss's dogs come over wagging their tails and greeting me so excitedly--they are just so, so adorable. And as for cats, there's a stray that I've been feeding every single morning on my way to work for over 4-5 years now. She currently lives at the Buddhist temple I attend. Every day when I go, she follows me around everywhere. She absolutely loves it when I scratch her back with a brush, and when I'm done and try to leave, she taps my foot to tell me to scratch more! It's just so totally cute and lovable. It's a completely white cat, and so incredibly pretty.)

Locals and visitors alike often rave about the quality of the coffee and the care that goes into every cup.
