Ever since I had Stumptown coffee in Portland, Oregon 7 years ago, I had wished this coffee chain would open a shop near me. My wish came true a couple of years ago, and I finally got a chance to visit this location in Pasadena. The inside is modern with two large tables that can seat four and three small tables for 2. There is also seating outside and a parking lot in the back. I got the iced oatmilk latte and it was delicious. They don't charge extra for non-diary milk which I greatly appreciate! There is free WI-FI. The coffee was good but I do wish they had more food and pastry options: like pistachio croissant or coffee cake, bagels and a few breakfast items. I always appreciate a good coffee shop that also has an excellent selection of iced teas. I came here to work on a hot summer afternoon and was very happy with the hibiscus iced tea and apple pastry. They were refreshing and absolutely delectable. Service was extremely friendly and the vibes were cozy. Tried this place on a weekday afternoon with my teenage daughter. The service was friendly, but could have been more sincere. My daughter ordered a cinnamon roll an hour before closing, but they had already turned off the oven, so she had to take it cold, and it was dry. Stopped in to do some school work and grabbed myself the morning mist tea. I'm on a tea journey and I really enjoyed the bitterness of the white pepper followed by the hint of sweetness from the alfalfa honey. This coffee roaster is probably the best kept secret around Muir High School neighborhood. The parking lot inside is not the biggest, so choose your parking wisely either on the street or inside next to the coffee shop. I ordered their honey and ginger latte and also their coffee. The coffee isn't sour which means their extraction was done right. I also noticed the crema when they served their espressos to other customers. So the baristas are definitely coffee connoisseurs and technicians when pulling their shots. Very courteous staff and they will talk to you if you are just standing there. I stopped by her with a friend after lunch at kismet and I had the special cold brew with vanilla coconut cold foam. She got a cortado. We got lucky and someone left as we waited for our coffee so we found seating inside. The coffee helped me with my energy all day. The coconut cold foam went perfectly and didn't make it too sweet. It was a nice way to wrap things up on our catch up session. Parking can be tough depending on the time of the day but there is street parking. *Coffee Fix Adventures continue* Came to Stumptown off a recommendation of a gf. It's a bit of a drive, so I'm not sure how often I'll come back, but I do think their espresso is good! As I've stated in past reviews, I've learned I prefer espresso over coffee and iced lattes are my preferred choice to beat the summer heat! My winter/colder weather preference is cappuccino :) Ordered the Iced Latte w/ Almond Milk. They do have Whole Earth, which was a bonus for me (1 bag is enough for me). The initial taste of their espresso was strong and I really enjoyed my latte. Hubby ordered their Drip Coffee w/ Skim Milk and was disappointed. It tasted watered down. I preferred my latte over his drink for sure. They've got a few tables inside thru their front (sliding) door, and a little patio area that's dog friendly. Parking is a bit of a doozy. They share a small lot with a place next door, and the exit for the lot goes to an alleyway. We parked on the small street leading out of the alleyway (Wyoming St., I believe). I think parking on the smaller streets nearby and walking over may be best for this location, especially on weekends... Will be back to support Stumptown when we're able to come out this way, since it is a bit far distance-wise...but their espresso/latte merits coming back! read more

I'm surprised at the low rating for this coffee shop. I think coffee enthusiasts are familiar with Stumptown coffee's quality and brand (though now owned by Peet's coffee). Stumbled on this gem after enjoying a Mother's Day breakfast next door - wanted to treat myself to an extra coffee and had a lovely experience here! We tried their Rose Gold Latte and their season Cherry Vanilla Latte and loved them both! The Rose Gold Latte is a heavenly rose and honey concoction that had a perfectly balanced flavor profile between the two and wasn't overly sweet. We tried it hot and it was very smooth and decorative as well. But the Cherry Vanilla Latte (iced) was the clear winner for me - again not too sweet and an excellent amount of cherry and vanilla which complimented each other well. These Oregon-based coffee roasters make their syrups in house and certainly know their blends as well. The coffees were smooth and delicious. Their prices are a tad higher than other spots but the quality is there and I will definitely stop by next time I'm in the area. Service was friendly and efficient - and our lattes were ready pretty quickly! There's plenty of cozy corners to sit in and enjoy your brews - the decor is chic minimalist in primary colors. Very relaxing vibes. They had a large merch wall too. Parking is free street parking and seemed plentiful. On the quest to find the best coffee in SoCal.. I ended up at this gem. I should preface this by saying that I have bought these prepackaged at Whole Foods for eons. I love that they use oatmilk as a standard base. I didn't realize that this was here until someone alerted me to the Coraline collab. Merch is pricey, and they have had more foot traffic from people coming for the Coraline drinks and merch. Read: if you're not a hipster and would rather avoid the unnecessary crowds, coming during the week. There is a small parking lot shared by this shop, an Italian market and HomeState (get the coffee then go buy the tacos and thank me later!) or else you have to press your luck on the street but read the signs. Seasonal drinks are what I like to try, and they are GOOD. There is a slight up charge for getting iced bevies. Seating isn't bad, but if it's busy it'll fill up fast. I like the vibe. The employees are nice and knowledgable. Service is fast and efficient. Wish they would expand and open more of these! read more

Altadena is known for its mom and pop shops where service really matters, so my experiences at this coffee shop have been pretty disappointing. I've been here twice, and both times the service was rude. The first time, I got called out for not closing the door behind me, even though I wasn't the one who left it open. The second time, my friend, who's diabetic, just asked if the chai latte was sweetened and got a really rude response. Honestly, the staff came off kind of entitled, and the whole vibe just felt off. It's a shame because the coffee is actually very good, but the way you're treated here just doesn't make you want to come back. read more

This was my second time visiting Stumptown and sadly both times I left unimpressed. The first time I went was probably a little over a year ago and I got an iced latte. Was not a fan. The most recent time I got a cappuccino with skim milk, it was so unpleasant. It's probably the skim milk that made it not good, but I couldn't taste espresso, it tasted like a watery coffee that I got from 7-Eleven or something. So sad and disappointing, I threw the leftover away because it was not worth finishing. Next time I will stick to whole milk. I will be giving this place another shot because I still have hope. Traveled an hour to go here and try the special Coraline Cold Brew and buy some Coraline merch to make my kids jealous. When we arrived I had to circle the place to figure out parking. Spoiler alert I parked in the wrong lot. The shop was busy and the line was to the sidewalk. Once we were at the counter we were informed that there was no more Coraline Merch. We were bummed but understood and ordered our coffees. I tried the basic iced coffee with vanilla and milk while my date tried the Coraline Cold Brew. They tasted ok but I don't think we even finished half of our $7 drinks. Probably will never return unless they do another special drink, I am a sucker for silly stuff like this. read more

I wish they offered more size options. The cold brew was mediocre as well; a bit more foam would have been nice. Overall, I don't think it's worth going out of your way to visit. Based out of Portland, OR Stumptown earned a reputation for its high-quality coffee. They recently opened a location in East Pasadena, and I finally had the opportunity to check it out. Before you enter the shop, you walk through a charming indoor/outdoor seating area that has fun pics on the wall, vinyl on the shelves, and live plants. It emits a welcoming vibe. Inside has a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Both sections beckon you to stay and enjoy your visit. There is a section with whole beans and other items to purchase, in addition to pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt parfaits, & cold beverages. Tia enthusiastically greeted me and was eager to assist with my order. Since I'm trying to be more adventurous, I decided to go with their signature drink - Raspberry Rose Cortado. I watched as the barista prepared my beverage with care and mindfulness. She handed it to me with a smile. After letting my phone drink first, I finally took a sip. It was bold, balanced, thick, & creamy. The Rose flavor was a pleasant surprise. Lightly floral with hints of raspberry. I liked it more and more with each sip. The syrups are made in house and aren't overly sweet, so the sweetness level was subtle. I savored the last drop and made a mental note of when I would be able to go back for another. The next day I received an e-mail from Stumptown thanking me for my visit and a $2 off code to use towards my next purchase. I first tried the brand years ago at their flagship store in Portland, and fell in love with the quality espresso. Since then, I've frequented the Arts District location quite a bit, though recently I have been less inclined to deal with LA traffic and Arts District parking. Thankfully, Stumptown made the move here to north Pasadena! For my first trip to this new location, I tried the seasonal spiced cookie latte (not my favorite) and a vanilla latte. Both of the drinks use house-made syrups, which I prefer, as you don't get that artificial cloying flavor with house-made alternatives. The vanilla latte was good, but I'm really just waiting for their salted maple latte to make it back onto the seasonal menu, as that was my favorite Stumptown drink for years. Update: Their newest seasonal drink is the Rose Gold latte (rose & honey), and it's pretty delicious. Both the rose and the honey flavors are subtle, so the end result isn't overly floral or sweet. ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. I literally wanted to order everything. Sadly I had to choose only a few. Items we ordered: 1) Signature drink : Raspberry Rose Cortado (strong espresso..as it should be. the raspberry and rose flavor were pleasantly very present) 2) Vanilla Latte with almond milk (not too sweet, not too frothy, just the right amount of sweet..perfection) 3) Blueberry muffin (hit the spot, very moist and flavorful. contained a lot more actual berries than I had expected) The entire aesthetic was right up my alley. Who hurt y'all.... My wife and I went a couple days before before Thanksgiving. We were excited to drop by this location since she went to one in Seattle the week before. We also love the beans we get from the supermarket. Their grinder was busted that morning and all the workers were just giving us major 'tude. Our orders are usually just black coffee.... The front porch area is a REALLY nice foyer type of thing that faces the street. I know they'll get their act together the next time we show up, and I can't wait to update this post. read more
