This place is the new hotness- they've got probably the best pour over coffee I've ever had and you can feel the passion and care of the people that operate this popup from the moment you walk up. Highly recommend this spot for anyone interested in specialty coffee and a pleasant atmosphere.

Element Coffee Roasters specializes in a modern approach to pour-over brewing, and the owner's passion for coffee is evident in every detail. The team is highly knowledgeable about coffee beans and has recently begun roasting in-house, guaranteeing outstanding freshness. Their selection ranges from expertly crafted daily brews to specialty offerings and even award-winning competition coffees. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the welcoming atmosphere makes every visit a pleasure. I am excited to try the beans I purchased.

Such a cool coffee shop find in Pasadena! This place is tucked away on the corner of a one-way…read morestreet, so parking can be a little tricky. The space is huge and open with so much attention to detail throughout. It has a really inviting vibe whether you're meeting up with friends, catching up over coffee, or looking for a spot to get some work done. I got the vanilla iced latte and loved that they make their vanilla syrup in-house. You can really taste the difference, it wasn't overly sweet and had a really nice flavor. They also have alternative milk options, which is always a plus. Definitely a great Pasadena coffee spot with a beautiful space, good coffee, with chill vibes.

From the…read moreoutside, it's a pretty non-descript corner shop on Green St. and Mentor Ave., with a plain gray exterior that doesn't immediately stand out. Once you step inside, though, the space feels completely different--bright, airy, modern, and open, with a clean minimalist design. Seating is very limited, but the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with light music playing softly in the background. We were greeted with smiles and friendly hellos as soon as we walked in, and the employee who took our order was both knowledgeable and welcoming, happily answering questions about the coffee offerings. One thing we really appreciated was that they paired each coffee with a small sample of the dried ground beans so you could smell the aroma before taking your first sip. It was a fun and unique touch that enhanced the tasting experience. My husband's Emerald Series La Roca Sidra iced pour-over had a sweet, red wine-like aroma, while my Emerald Series Chiroso Imperial iced pour-over offered deep floral notes of jasmine and rich caramel. For food, my husband ordered the avocado mushroom open-faced toast, and I got the avocado mushroom smoked trout open-faced toast topped with cucumber, pickled red onions, and dill. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The coffees were especially memorable and showcased the care that goes into their roasting and brewing process. The only downside for us was the price. While the quality of both the food and coffee was excellent, we felt the portions were on the smaller side for what was charged. Overall, The Boy & The Bear offers delicious specialty coffee, thoughtfully prepared food, friendly service, and a chill atmosphere. If you're looking for a unique coffee experience and appreciate the nuances of specialty beans, it's definitely worth checking out.

She was genuinely engaged in talking about coffee, understood the beans she was serving, and was able to answer questions without hesitation. That's becoming harder to find these days, and it definitely added to the overall experience. The cortado itself was well executed. The temperature was right where it should be, allowing the flavors to come through immediately without having to wait for the drink to cool down. I was able to clearly taste the notes in the coffee, and the balance between the espresso and milk was excellent. The body held together nicely throughout the drink and never felt thin or watered down. My only critique would be that the crema and microfoam leaned a little more matte and foamy than glossy. It wasn't enough to take away from the drink, but a slightly silkier, shinier texture would have elevated it even further. That said, this was an Ethiopian natural, which can be a bit trickier to dial in and pair with milk while still preserving the character of the coffee, so it's a fairly minor criticism. Overall, a very good cortado from a shop that clearly cares about coffee. Good execution, proper temperature, clear flavor separation, and knowledgeable staff always make for a better coffee experience.

From the moment I…read morewalked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and helped orient me around the space -- small tables inside with cozy seating both in the front and back. It has that warm, neighborhood-coffee-shop feel that's getting harder to find. The cashier took the time to walk me through the menu and pastry options, which I really appreciated. I landed on the Lil Sumtin' flat white -- made with an herbal and floral honey blend -- and it was absolutely delightful. Paired it with their gluten-free pound cake, which was surprisingly moist and delicious. No compromises on flavor whatsoever. Bonus points: very dog friendly, street parking available, and a small shared lot with neighboring small businesses that I'm already planning to explore on my next visit. Altadena still has such a special energy that proves its motto Altadena Strong and Unincorporated fits right into it. Highly recommend stopping in!

I ordered a cortado, and it was an excellent example of a well-executed milk drink. The texture was silky with a rich, velvety body that stayed consistent throughout the cup. The milk was steamed very well, producing smooth, glossy microfoam that complemented the espresso without masking its character. If I had one technical observation, the microfoam was just a touch thicker than what you'd typically expect in a competition-style cortado, but it never crossed into being foamy. It was still a very enjoyable thickness that gave the drink a satisfying mouthfeel while maintaining great integration with the espresso. The temperature was spot on and made the drink enjoyable from the first sip. Visually, the cortado was just as impressive. The latte art was clean and centered, the surface had a beautiful sheen, and the milk texture was free of distracting bubbles or excessive foam. The body also held together nicely throughout the drink instead of separating early, which is always something I pay attention to. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the café itself is spacious with a clean, comfortable atmosphere that makes you want to stay and enjoy your coffee. Between the quality of the cortado, the attention to detail, and the hospitality, Yihui Coffee is absolutely a place I'll be returning to whenever I'm back in the area.
