My friend and I came about an hour before they were closing and thankfully there was plenty of seating! I ordered the salted maple latte with oat milk, but the rose vanilla sounded equally enticing! The customer service was upbeat and friendly. Our drinks were made promptly without sacrificing the quality. I loved how well balanced the drink was and the maple flavor really came through! It also wasn't overly salted and had just the right amount of sweetness. It was rich, indulgent and creamy. It had the perfect amount of caffeine to leave me feeling energized without the jitteriness. My friend ordered a tea and pastry and raved about hers. The seating was pretty comfortable and the ambiance was great. I liked how it wasn't too noisy, so we were able to hear one another easily. The cafe is nice and bright with gorgeous paintings on the wall and motivating quotes written beside them. They have a small shared lot that can be pretty tight to get in and out of, especially when there's large vehicles parked there. Thankfully, since it was the end of the day and most of the other businesses were closed, I was able to get in and out easily, with plenty of spots available! I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area and in need of a tasty caffeinated beverage!

Honestly, it was the kind of drink I could easily make at home. It's nice to have a coffee shop in the area since there aren't many options nearby, but I'll probably keep driving to Pasadena when I want a really good cup of coffee.

I had such a great experience at Modu Cafe today…read more I ordered an iced latte and a matcha latte, and both were excellent. The coffee was smooth, and the matcha had a rich, balanced flavor without being overly sweet. What really stood out to me, though, was the bakery. The pastry display was absolutely beautiful--it felt more like an art exhibition with a subtle Japanese aesthetic than a typical bakery. I tried the Milk Cream Bun and the Miso Cinnamon Roll. The Milk Cream Bun was light and perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness. The Miso Cinnamon Roll completely surprised me. I was curious how miso would work in a cinnamon roll, but it didn't taste noticeably like miso. Instead, it added a subtle savory umami that elevated the sweetness of the cinnamon roll beautifully. It was unlike anything I've had before. This place left such a great impression that I already want to come back and try the rest of the pastries. Highly recommended!

From waiting in line to receiving our drinks, the whole process took a little under 10 minutes. Parking is street parking only, but it's pretty easy. There are plenty of marked spaces nearby, and the streets are wide, so getting in and out of the spots isn't difficult. We ordered a Matcha Latte and Hojicha Latte with cream tops, which cost extra to add and brought each drink to around $8. Visually, they looked really promising, and from what I could see, everything was being hand whisked. Unfortunately, the drinks missed the mark for me. The matcha was smooth and not overly sweet, but it leaned more grassy, while I personally prefer matcha with nuttier notes. That part really just comes down to preference. The hojicha was more disappointing. It was still a little powdery, which was distracting, and I found it quite sweet. I was told it was lightly sweetened with agave, but the sweetness seemed to overpower some of the hojicha flavor. The hojicha itself seemed like it had a good flavor underneath, but everything together just didn't work for me. The cafe has a nice atmosphere and a pretty expansive menu, so it's possible I would've had a different experience with other items. However, considering how busy it was in the middle of a weekday, I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a reliable work or study spot. The staff was fine, but nothing particularly stood out about the service either. Overall, I've had much better matcha and hojicha elsewhere, especially at this price point. Modu Cafe unfortunately wasn't for me, and I'm not sure I'd come back specifically to give it another try.

Kumquat lives off of York Blvd - a street with many families, creatives, and small businesses live. The environment is always wholesome. Their staff are always friendly, and as an experienced barista myself, I can see that their team are also very talented, well trained and very good at quality control. Their espresso is so balanced and sits perfectly center on your palette. Their matcha and hojicha is rich and velvety and seemingly a higher grade product. They work with many roasters, and sell a lot of their beans on their shelves. They also sell a lot of coffee and tea tools. I love everything about coming to Kumquat. Don't skip on their other locations (Loquat and newfound Quat). I'll forever stan this business

There wasn't a line, but all the tables outside were full. The shop was well appointed, but the inside seating bar area was roped off. Staff was friendly, and accommodated my request for the Tennessee, not too sweet. It had a nice subtle caramel flavor. It's an iced latte sweetened with Sorghum syrup (like molasses) and smoke salt. I think it was $6.25 They do not accept cash! And it's tip when you order... Which I did, but isn't the price factoring in the making of the item? I've become confused ‍ over what is tip worthy when it's just placing it on the counter for me to pick up. My friend ordered the Affogato as she was in the mood for ice cream! Fun part of being an adult is having ice cream for brunch but labeling it coffee! I am curious about the $34 coffee beans, I don't know if they do regular brews featuring the fancy coffee, I would definitely want to try before I buy. We strolled over to the little park on the corner and had a chat in the shade. Something that just wasn't an option in the Old HLP !

The problem with this place falls on most of the staff. I don't think I've ever walked away from completing a transaction without feeling put off. Genuinely it feels like you're an inconvenience for wanting to support this business, based on the short almost annoyed responses you get from asking questions or saying you need a moment to look at the menu. I came during a major heat wave in LA. Not a good idea but I was very eager to come & see & I didn't want to wait. Explored the pretty large nursery of various plants first. Prices were reasonable, plants were healthy, the shopping experience was fun & different. I claimed some plants in my head to go back to purchase after coffee. Went inside the very well air conditioned cafe. it was animated inside, inviting, and smelled good As coffee always does. It was small but did have some seating ( I believe 2 tall tables with tall chairs to go with). So excited to find that as part of their plant nursery there is a very large greenhouse w/ several table & chair setups. Large ceiling fans as well. More plants to view &/or purchase. That's where I settled down to drink my coffee! (Was very surprised to see many others however out in the high heat looking comfortable and unbothered!) There's table & chair seating throughout. Coffee was good! They had a good selection. I got an Americano. They have alternative milks as well. Next time I will ask for my coffee extra hot. After coffee, went to make the purchase of the plants I picked. Was thinking I'd need to go back into the cafe to pay but what a surprise! By accident, I found even more...a cute little store full of fun and interesting plant related goodies! planters, books, clothing, and all kind of things. Many things can be given to another plant lover as a gift. The very friendly cashier was present to assist if needed and ring up my planties. We had a great conversation and I got great advice on how to take care of the plants I purchased. What an enjoyable experience everything was. Will definitely be back.

There was a hot guy there too. Not an employee, just a guy hanging out getting coffee. I drank my coffee at one of their tables outside in the yard area thing they have. There were a bunch of plants and stuff out there too, it was cool. I thought it would be cute if I hid behind a plant and acted like I was spying on the cute guy, so I got up to do that and as soon as I did someone took my seat. Actually it was several people who took my seat and the whole table I was sitting at. They were like "ooh that table is open, let's sit there!" but I wanted to save my seat because I was just going to hide behind a plant to joke spy on the stud to try and flirt with him. Anyway, I was so mad I was glaring at the people who stole my table, then when I looked back at the hunk he was gone! I guess he left while I was glaring at the table thieves. The coffee was great and the place is cool. I will definitely go back there next time I'm in the neighborhood to get waxed.

Another big bonus of this place is they are also dog friendly! They have a large back patio of artificial grass. I was nervous she might pee on it, but she did not.
