My friend brought me baguettes, croissants, English muffins, pastries, marble cake, banana nut bread, etc. She had brought me another box of goodies last week & I didn't know which location it was from so I wrote a review on Montrose location. Since she brought me another box but I forgot to sk which location - & don't want to bother her with asking that - so decided to write a review on La Canada location. My friend's husband said their baguettes are his favorite so I'm excited to try them. The marble cake looks like it will go well with coffee. The pastries are flaky & sweet without being overly sweet. They bake fresh daily so evertyhing was soft to touch & you can smell the freshness of their breads. It's as nice a location as the Montrose Gio. The food is the same quality and consistency which I appreciate. My favorite thing is the cannoli and a close second is the tiramisu. I actually prefer this location over the Montrose because the parking situation is better. read more

Stopped here just to see what it was like. Vibes and staff are nice, cute cafe with an option to eat in or outside. Saw they have sourdough bread on the shelf for sale, was happy to see this since the sourdough bread vendor sold out at the Farmers Market. But was a bit disappointed, didn't taste as fresh as I expected especially for $14. They also had the date blacked out when it was baked...unsure why?? One of my favorite bakeries! We got 2 lattes, pistachio cannoli, tiramisu, and turkey breast sandwich. Everything was really good! I'm personally not a cannoli fan, but it was amazing. Tiramisu was on the sweeter side for me but I would still get it again. Weirdly enough I really liked the sandwich. Didn't think something so simple would make me so happy but the bread was the right amount of crunchiness and softness. Salad was good, didn't know what dressing it was but tied the entire dish together. Lattes were large and so good! I would definitely come back and order the same! The manager was also super welcoming and sweet. There is plenty of seating indoors and out, perfect for warmer weather to come. Parking is also very easy. read more

I'm excited to have a new Gio's in La Canada. Their original location is in Montrose on Ocean View. I'm trying to eat a bit healthier, so it took all my willpower not to order pastries and sandwiches. The first time I visited for their soft opening I ordered a tuna salad and matcha latte and they were both great. My friend and I went today, March 1, 2024 and I ordered a ham and cheese panini with salad and that was delicious. My friend ordered the breakfast veggie baguette and she loved that. I popped into Geo's Cafe in La Cañada after running an errand next door and decided to try a couple of their desserts. This was just an initial visit, so I kept it light with a lemon bar and a mini pistachio cannoli. The lemon bar was bright, citrusy, and super fresh. I couldn't quite figure out if the filling leaned more custard or gelatin, but the flavor was solid. I spoke with someone who worked there named Shant, who was really friendly and eager to share that the lemon bars are made from scratch. That kind of care definitely shows in the freshness, and it helped me understand the slightly higher price point. The crust was baked well but had a bit of a bitter, flour aftertaste that didn't fully land for me, though. The mini pistachio cannoli was the highlight. I actually prefer smaller bites like this over full-sized versions. The shell was crisp, the filling was smooth, and the chopped pistachios added a perfect bit of crunch and nuttiness. For under 3 bucks, it was easily worth it. They also offer sandwiches, breads, and other items I didn't get to try yet, but the space had a good vibe and the staff was welcoming. I definitely plan to come back and try more from the menu. read more

Just love their sandwiches. They come with a green leaf salad with a semi spicy dressing. Egg and cheese croissant sandwich is my to go for breakfast. You can add avocado to it too. Bottom Line: Very cute, average and yet somehow still very expensive Being a parent is exhausting and it's tricky to even get away for an afternoon sometimes. Usually for my birthday I try and get away a do something for myself and this year I decided to take a day off of work and go for a motorcycle ride. Up at 4am and bundled up as it was freezing, I left Santa Barbara headed for Angeles Crest as it had been years since I had the chance to see those beautiful mountains. As I was leaving the 118, a nice hot cup of tea and a pasty were calling me. If my poor memory served, there were a few restaurants and bakeries on the strip in La Canada. I spotted Gio's and pulled into the parking lot. The staff were friendly and professional. The place is beautifully laid out and looks very nice inside. The croissants looked good! but tiny! Especially for $5. I asked for one of those and a black tea. I waited patiently behind another customer as he added things to a few different coffees. There is a very small area for this - enough for just one person. There's no honey or agave available, just packets of sweetener.... like a gas station. There was a nice spot outside, so I grabbed a chair and sat down to enjoy a cuppa. The tea was just black tea - nothing out of the ordinary. The croissant came out and I have to say, I was super underwhelmed. For a $5 croissant you would expect it to be at least average sized, but it was small. For $5 you would hope that it would be the most delicious thing you've ever tasted! I can get behind quality not quantity - I didn't want a flat of Croissants from Costco after all. This is just a birthday treat. Unfortunately the Croissant was dry/crispy (burned?) and really just not very good - mostly air. Expensive air, like that Perriair stuff from Spaceballs. It was not warm or buttery, it was just a mess. The total bill including tip was $10 or $12 I believe - for hot water and a small piece of bread without chocolate or any filling. This was a huge bummer. Getting away for even an afternoon for me only happens a few times per year and I was hoping this would be a nice birthday treat and it was like going to a gas station, just twice as much money as I wanted to spend. read more

There's nothing short of good that you can purchase from here. I've been to both locations, the one in Montrose as well, and I'm always amazed at how delicious and fresh everything is. Of course, I ate and drank whatever I ordered before taking a picture because I couldn't help it. I tried the strawberry danish and it was one of the best I've ever had. Every bite was properly balanced -- from the strawberries-- to the cheese, to the crunch. I ordered their iced vanilla latte, which comes so close to Alfred's world famous vanilla latte, for basically half the price. Although I did not get pictures of what I actually ordered and frankly, inhaled, I did get a photo of the aesthetically pleasing options you can pick from the next time you're there! read more
