When I am in the area, I enjoy stopping here. They have a delicious matcha latte, baked goods and tasty sandwiches. I usually get the same items, and they are always great. Stopped here just to see what it was like. Vibes and staff are nice, cute cafe with an option to eat in or outside. Saw they have sourdough bread on the shelf for sale, was happy to see this since the sourdough bread vendor sold out at the Farmers Market. But was a bit disappointed, didn't taste as fresh as I expected especially for $14. They also had the date blacked out when it was baked...unsure why?? Might still come back though and try the food and pastries next time when I'm in the area. read more

I popped into Geo's Cafe in La Cañada after running an errand next door and decided to try a couple of their desserts. This was just an initial visit, so I kept it light with a lemon bar and a mini pistachio cannoli. The lemon bar was bright, citrusy, and super fresh. I couldn't quite figure out if the filling leaned more custard or gelatin, but the flavor was solid. I spoke with someone who worked there named Shant, who was really friendly and eager to share that the lemon bars are made from scratch. That kind of care definitely shows in the freshness, and it helped me understand the slightly higher price point. The crust was baked well but had a bit of a bitter, flour aftertaste that didn't fully land for me, though. The mini pistachio cannoli was the highlight. I actually prefer smaller bites like this over full-sized versions. The shell was crisp, the filling was smooth, and the chopped pistachios added a perfect bit of crunch and nuttiness. For under 3 bucks, it was easily worth it. They also offer sandwiches, breads, and other items I didn't get to try yet, but the space had a good vibe and the staff was welcoming. I definitely plan to come back and try more from the menu. read more

This new location is SO much nicer than the previous one! I had my doubts at first since I'm not a local, but I thought the foot traffic of the old location would be better. Wrong! The new location is right on the main strip, has much brighter seating. Our kids crushed their crepes. Coffee was good to carry me for the long drive home. read more

Love the new location! Stopped by here to grab some coffee and pastries. Shant and the team were very kind and friendly in taking our order. We ordered lattes, pastries and grabbed a table outside. As we waited we admired the decor. Not long after everything came out. The coffee was so delicious and the muffins was very soft and not too sweet. One of my favorite bakeries! We got 2 lattes, pistachio cannoli, tiramisu, and turkey breast sandwich. Everything was really good! I'm personally not a cannoli fan, but it was amazing. Tiramisu was on the sweeter side for me but I would still get it again. Weirdly enough I really liked the sandwich. Didn't think something so simple would make me so happy but the bread was the right amount of crunchiness and softness. Salad was good, didn't know what dressing it was but tied the entire dish together. Lattes were large and so good! I would definitely come back and order the same! I'm excited to have a new Gio's in La Canada. Their original location is in Montrose on Ocean View. I'm trying to eat a bit healthier, so it took all my willpower not to order pastries and sandwiches. The first time I visited for their soft opening I ordered a tuna salad and matcha latte and they were both great. My friend and I went today, March 1, 2024 and I ordered a ham and cheese panini with salad and that was delicious. My friend ordered the breakfast veggie baguette and she loved that. Just love their sandwiches. They come with a green leaf salad with a semi spicy dressing. Egg and cheese croissant sandwich is my to go for breakfast. You can add avocado to it too. Wow! I stopped by to try Gio's in La Canada and they surpassed my expectations. A few friends told me to try this bakery and I was not disappointed. Their Coffee is delicious and the sandwiches were amazing. The bread was so fresh. The pastries I tried were heavenly. But I must mention the customer service and specifically on a server that stood out. Nicole was so sweet and helpful. She gave excellent recommendations and was delightful. Bottom Line: Very cute, average and yet somehow still very expensive Being a parent is exhausting and it's tricky to even get away for an afternoon sometimes. Usually for my birthday I try and get away a do something for myself and this year I decided to take a day off of work and go for a motorcycle ride. Up at 4am and bundled up as it was freezing, I left Santa Barbara headed for Angeles Crest as it had been years since I had the chance to see those beautiful mountains. As I was leaving the 118, a nice hot cup of tea and a pasty were calling me. If my poor memory served, there were a few restaurants and bakeries on the strip in La Canada. I spotted Gio's and pulled into the parking lot. The staff were friendly and professional. The place is beautifully laid out and looks very nice inside. The croissants looked good! but tiny! Especially for $5. I asked for one of those and a black tea. I waited patiently behind another customer as he added things to a few different coffees. There is a very small area for this - enough for just one person. There's no honey or agave available, just packets of sweetener.... like a gas station. There was a nice spot outside, so I grabbed a chair and sat down to enjoy a cuppa. The tea was just black tea - nothing out of the ordinary. The croissant came out and I have to say, I was super underwhelmed. For a $5 croissant you would expect it to be at least average sized, but it was small. For $5 you would hope that it would be the most delicious thing you've ever tasted! I can get behind quality not quantity - I didn't want a flat of Croissants from Costco after all. This is just a birthday treat. Unfortunately the Croissant was dry/crispy (burned?) and really just not very good - mostly air. Expensive air, like that Perriair stuff from Spaceballs. It was not warm or buttery, it was just a mess. The total bill including tip was $10 or $12 I believe - for hot water and a small piece of bread without chocolate or any filling. This was a huge bummer. Getting away for even an afternoon for me only happens a few times per year and I was hoping this would be a nice birthday treat and it was like going to a gas station, just twice as much money as I wanted to spend. read more

Love this new location! It's bright and spacious and it has easy parking! Gio's salads, sandwiches and desserts are all sooooo good! They have a delicious pistachio cream Cannoli that is an absolutely treat! The staff is always super nice too. It's the perfect lunch spot in my opinion. There's nothing short of good that you can purchase from here. I've been to both locations, the one in Montrose as well, and I'm always amazed at how delicious and fresh everything is. Of course, I ate and drank whatever I ordered before taking a picture because I couldn't help it. I tried the strawberry danish and it was one of the best I've ever had. Every bite was properly balanced -- from the strawberries-- to the cheese, to the crunch. I ordered their iced vanilla latte, which comes so close to Alfred's world famous vanilla latte, for basically half the price. Although I did not get pictures of what I actually ordered and frankly, inhaled, I did get a photo of the aesthetically pleasing options you can pick from the next time you're there! read more

If you'd like a flaky, buttery, freshly baked croissant , I'd suggest going to the French bakery inside Gelsons. The staff are very friendly here, but after three visits, I'm afraid the sub par croissants don't warrant another visit. The location in montrose is worth the five stars based solely on the tiramisu and coffee read more

I ordered a decaf Americano my first time here the other day. It was excellent once I fixed it up with sugar and creamer. The chocolate pasty I got with it was kind of dry and stale tasting and I discarded it after two bites. But because of the great coffee I brought my husband here this morning to try their breakfast sandwiches. Ugggh. My baguette was of such poor quality I removed the inside egg portion. The egg portion was barely warm and had a cold slice of unmelted cheese. The baguette had been buttered with unsalted (cooking) butter and was kind of chunky and unmelted due to the cold-ish innards of the egg portion. I forced myself to eat the cold egg and cheese because otherwise I'd have nothing for breakfast. I had a thimble of fruit for an up charge. It was fresh and good. My husband got the croissant egg sandwich. He's more tolerant of food served not hot. He is not interested in a repeat visit either. My hot mocha was okay but was really too hot chocolate-like versus coffee-like. Staff is nice. I'd only come here for basic coffee though. read more

Tried Gio's for the first time cuz wanted to meet a friend in that area for breakfast, and we both enjoyed ourselves very much. The coffees were rich and beautifully made, and the breakfast sandwiches were fresh and delicious. The ambiance is very relaxing, the service is friendly, and I love that they open so early. I went back several more mornings in a row to try their other coffee offerings, always served in ample mugs. After waiting nearly 40 minutes, our food finally arrived -- and I was honestly shocked by the portion size and the poor quality of the avocado toast (I'll attach the photo). After politely speaking to the waiter and waiting for assistance, no one came back. I eventually had to go inside myself and speak directly to the owner. Instead of resolving the issue properly, she simply said they couldn't remake it and offered "extra avocado" instead. After waiting another 5 minutes, she told me to go sit outside and they would bring it out. They brought very tiny avocado slices. What should have been a beautiful Mother's Day experience was completely ruined. In the end, my husband had to go inside and request a refund. We are beyond disappointed and will never return. Customers deserve kindness, respect, and proper service -- and sadly this place no longer offers any of that. Avoid this place if you value good service and being treated with respect.

Margo, the personable proprietor, channels tge inspiration of her mother who ran her own teahouse back in Russia. Margo has run this little teahouse almost entirely on her own for 20 years. The menu has a large variation of teas, including my favorite butterscotch--a rich buttery tea with notes of vanilla. Each tea is served in vintage porcelain cups. Our delicate tea sandwiches along with our honey served in a unique sparkling glass container were perfection. I also loved that the portions were very generous. I was joined by my friend Roxy, who was dressed so beautifully and is always so sweet and considerate and wonderful company, which made the entire afternoon a wonderful memorable experience.
