Tutti perfecti! Butternut squash ravioli was out of this world. Probably the best I've ever had, including in Italy. The sauce was so creamy and rich with the perfect hint of sage. I could have taken a quart of it home! The ravioli itself was perfectly cooked, generously stuffed with filling, and the taste of the butternut squash really came thru cleanly. The portion & the quality felt well worth the price, which is rare these days. An utter joy. Every bite was heaven. This will be a dish that I think about often. Mushroom risotto was delicious! Super soft mushrooms, great flavor, nicely cooked. I normally don't enjoy much rooms because they can get...squeaky. These were a generous amount, silky and smooth, and imparted a lot of great mushroom flavor to the rice. Another dish I'd order again anytime! We've also had both the lasagna and the gnocchi (w panna) and enjoyed them. The gnocchi in particular were so well made, just the perfect texture, pillow soft and a generous portion. You get a choice of sauces so I'd come back and try these with another sauce in the future just to see how that is. The panna was a lovely cream sauce with a light shallot flavor. I enjoyed it more and more as I ate and the sauce thickened. It was delivered pipping hot, so you have time to let the sauce set before digging in. Arugula & raddichio salad was SO fresh, delicious light dressing, excellent cheese. They kindly split this on two plates for us to share. Ever subsequent time we have ordered a salad they automatically do us this kindness. Very thoughtful. We have also tried the spinach and pear salad special of the day, which was delightfully tender spinach, tasty pears and an aged cheese in a wonderfully fresh dressing. I love their salad specials! We also had the special of the day appetizer which was buratta, prosciutto e melone. Delightful! The melon was crunchy & sweet, the prosciutto was great, and the buratta was so creamy. Service was excellent. Everyone who works here is very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. They always have amazing specials, so be sure to ask about those. We have ended up ordering some of those every time we have been here. One of my favorite Italian places in all of LA. The quality is consistent, the menu is varied, the specials are actually special, and the covered outdoor patio area is great in all seasons. We will be back many times, I am sure. read more

GREAT FOOD & SERVICE ==================== My husband, son and I went to Cafe Sole for dinner on Thursday, December 18, 2025. We sat on the patio which was a little chilly, so bring a jacket if you decide to sit outside. A family with two young children also decided to dine on the patio and the two young kids screamed or cried the whole time. The parents should have just taken their food to go, but they just sat there and let their kids scream the whole time. My husband and I stayed calm, but my son was ready to snap lol. We would have never stayed in a restaurant while our child was screaming when he was little. Holy cow. Anyway, beyond the nerve wracking screaming we really loved everything we ordered. Every year for the last four years, my son and I have made the trek from OC to the Enchanted Forest of Lights at Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge. I avoid doing anything on the west side at all costs, but there are a few things he loves--and this is one of them. We always try to grab dinner nearby, and every year I've tried a new place... and every year it's fallen short. Until now. I asked DD ahead of time what kind of food she was craving, and she said Italian. As luck would have it, I found Café Solé, where they make their pastas in-house--and it's the closest thing I've found to SF's amazing Frascati. In my younger years I always ordered lasagna--before Old Spaghetti Factory ruined that for me 20 years ago with a truly awful one. Since then I've gravitated toward spaghetti vongole, and Café Solé does it really well. My son is a gnocchi kid, so he ordered his with pesto and absolutely loved it. DD got what might be the best lasagna I've ever tasted: light, balanced, and beautifully plated with just the right amount of sauce and meat. My other half ordered the penne Guilia in a pink sauce with arugula. I debated getting it myself, but I'm glad I stuck with the vongole--the penne wasn't as light in texture as their other pastas, at least for my taste. So this year, we added a new tradition on top of our existing one. And I kind of love that. read more

This was a nice little Italian restaurant! Nestled in the sleepy part of Los Angeles at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains is Cafe Sole Trattoria Italiana. First of all, they have one of the tastiest house bread that I've ever tasted. They're practically addicting. That's when you know you're off to a good start! Add some olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette and you'll be telling the waiter to keep them coming! Luckily, the rest of what we had was delicious. To my delight, for the Antipasti (appetizer) they have one my surprising finds in Rome, the Prosciutto e Melone - Cantaloupe melon and Prosciutto di Parma. The combination of cantaloupe wrapped with prosciutto ham and paired with soft cheese is as tantalizing as it is unique, and if you haven't had this Italian delight, you must try it. For our main course, my friend ordered the Spaghetti Puttanesca, and although I'm not a fan of anchovies, it is a pretty good dish with Kalamata olives, extra virgin Olive Oil, garlic, capers, and arrabbiata sauce. For myself, I ordered the Pappardelle Sole, a wide flat pasta with Italian Sausage, extra virgin Olive Oil, garlic, artichoke, and tomato sauce. It's a delicious, savory, and yet not really heavy pasta. It is nicely balanced, with no particular ingredient overpowering the others. There is a lot of other dishes that we want to try out here, so we'll definitely have to make a return visit, hopefully with some room for dessert, too. read more

I love the vibe of this place. The service is so warm, relaxed, and yet very professional. Great menu that feels authentic. I've brought my 4 year old daughter here for an early dinner a couple of times and they're so sweet to her and offered crayons. Our server remembered us from the first time we had visited a month or two prior to our 2nd visit- that was an impressive touch. Pizzas, caprese, fish, and spaghetti were delicious. After completing our tax preparation, we decided to come to Cafe Sole for a late lunch/early dinner. At 2:45, the place was empty but we knew we'd be happy with an our meal. The only waiter at that hour was pleasant and helpful. I ordered Chianti and melon with prosciutto. The appetizer was delish and satisfying. My wife ordered the chicken Marsala with pasta and I ordered the spaghetti al faro with olive oil and garlic instead of the tomato sauce. Both dishes were plated beautifully and my dish was excellent. My dish was simple spaghetti in olive oil and sliced garlic with sautéed calamari and shrimp and steamed clams. It was fantastic!!! We talked to Alexandra, the owner, about the restaurant and realized we've been dining here off and on for over ten years. We ordered desserts, my wife had the flourless chocolate cake and I had the Panna Cotta with coffee. The desserts are made by Alexandra and her husband. Both were equally delicious. As we get older, we come to appreciate the simple things in life. Now we realize that this little gem of an Italian restaurant is less than a mile from our home and is one of the best places for fine Italian cuisine locally. Kid approved!!! Absolutely loved our recent visit to Cafe Sole! We've drove past here every time we go to Descanso Gardens and decided to have dinner here a week ago. So glad we did. The place was packed but luckily I made a reservation and we were seated relatively on tine. The put paper over the white table clothes which was perfect as they gave my son crayons to draw while we waited for food. We ordered the burrata w/ bell peppers, the arugula salad with calamari, prosciutto pizza, spaghetti vongole, spaghetti al pomodoro, panna cotta and tiramisu. Everything was great. The calamari was so tender, the spaghetti al pomodoro was fresh and my son loved the burrata and pizza. The service was wonderful and the restaurant was very clean and bustling. It reminded me of some of the neighborhood Italian restaurants in Germany. It also reminded my husband of those restaurants as well and he is so happy to find a new local / "neighborhood" Italian spot. We will definitely go back again soon. read more

Sat us immediately and we ordered all our favorites! Started with bread with oil and balsamic vinegar. We got Brushetta which had fresh garlic in it! Soo good! Then got insalata mista, a wonderful salad. We then split a margarita pizza with pepperoni in half of it. My friend got beef carpaccio and it was excellent. Lastly we got fettacini bolognese and it also was delightfully delicious! The Owner and her son are wonderful and know me from coming many times. Right by the UA regal theater in la canada. Terrible terrible place. I went yesterday where I was not treated well presumably because I didn't order much food. I ordered a full pizza for myself and a 6 year old and we didn't even finish it. They didn't start us with bread even though I see everyone else being seated getting a basket. I see the waiters helping other customers put their leftover food in a carry out container but not me. They even took away ALL OF OUR PLATES even though we both had food in our hands. Terrible service and mediocre food. Take your business elsewhere. read more

We LOVE the food and service (Miguel) at Cafe Sole. We have been going for several years. Yesterday I took a friend to share the experience and it was delightful. The owner, Salvatore, is a magical chef who takes pride in his creations -- the bread (OMG), the appetizers, everything. But yesterday I took a chance and veered away from my usual pasta favorite (Capellini de Angelo) to try one of the specials -- Linguine, Mushrooms, Sausage, chopped tomatoes -- and it was fabulous. I hope they put it on the menu or offer it as a special often! My friend got the chicken panini and it was beautiful and she raved about it. It was also huge so she will get a second meal out of it. Also purchased my husband's favorite (penne arrabbiata) to take home so that he could enjoy. The setting is easy, offering covered outdoor as well as indoor. The way that Salvatore circulates to make sure all is well adds to the feeling of "home" and friendship. I forgot to tell him that my friend was born in Vicenza! Next time. But if you are anywhere near you must stop by and enjoy the food and the atmosphere. read more

My husband surprised me with date night here. They were packed and we didn't have a reservation but the servers made sure they still sat us in the first seat available. They were extremely nice and down to earth. We felt really comfortable. First time here before a night at Descanso Gardens and it was a great yelp find! I called for a reservation and they were accommodating from that first chat. The service was helpful and kind and perfectly attentive. The food came out hot and fresh and honestly, it was all delicious. There were only clean plates at our table . We sat outside on their patio, they have the best heaters in town, btw. I'm looking forward to another reason to be nearby so I can try some more dishes. read more

I read on a local group a comment that said this restaurant has pasta that is most similar and authentic to ITALY. Maybe this was the start of the downfall. Honestly this place is AVERAGE. For the price point, I will make the drive to Pasadena to get pasta from Union. For the price point, just make pasta at home- get a jar of Carbone sauce and Rummo pasta and it's basically the same thing. Located off the Glendale freeway, unsuspecting family owned Italian joint. There's a movie theater in the same location, so dinner and movie kinda vibe. This place has AMAZING BREAD. WOW. The bread alone is worth checking this place out. The hostess was telling me her husband bakes all the bread fresh daily and go thru about 40 loaves everyday. All of their desserts are also made in-house. I got the tiramisu (even tho I'm not a tiramisu person). Really good. The best compliment "not too sweet." Also got the caprese salad, which was a legit salad, not just tomatoes and mozzarella by itself. Not thinking the caprese was a full on salad, I also got the insalata calamrata as well. Definitely did not get to finish the calamari salad. But the caprese was super refreshing. The paparedelle came with sausage and artichokes. Lots of parking. read more

Hidden gem! Have been looking for a good, homey Italian restaurant that has a few keys dishes that I love including carpaccio di Manzo which is hard to find and even harder to find where it's well made. Cafe Sole delivered. The food and service were excellent. I'm Italian and I have high standards for Italian restaurants and this spot has definitely now become a place my family and I will be returning to time and time again. Girls night out brought us to this fabulous restaurant... The evening was delightful so we sat outside on the lovely patio. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and asked him a few questions about what to order. He certainly guided us in choosing the perfect dishes.. They started with freshly baked warm bread with the most devine olive oil with Rosemary and butter. Soon thereafter our fresh salads arrived lightly dressed. Our entrées, arrived and they were hot and delicious. We had a couple glasses of wine... We thoroughly enjoyed every bite of our food, the atmosphere and the entire evening.
