One of my all time favorite bakeries, and Porto's locations. Always very crowded, but worth it for the food. We sat outside because there was no indoor seating available. It was quite hot and close to the road, but there weren't other options. Very lively ambiance. I usually don't come here to dine in, just order bakery items, but their bakery and fresh food is both equally good. We ordered the ropa vieja plate, a sandwich and matcha latte (the jasmine blue one). The ropa vieja is one of my favorite things to get, the meat is incredibly tender and juicy. I love their rice as well, which pairs well with the meat and beans. I'm not a big fan of the plantains or caramelized banana that comes with it, just because I cant get used to the texture and sweetness. Their sandwiches are top tier, I usually get the Medianoche which is excellent ! The matcha was also pretty good, more milky and not a strong tea flavor. Still a good drink! Recommend Porto's for everyone! For bakery items, our favorite is the cheese rolls and the potato balls. They also have excellent cakes. The famous Porto's. Everywhere you go in Glendale, you see people with Porto's boxes. Of course I had to go there. I found it right down the street with ample parking on the street. Once inside, it is huge with seemingly 2 areas that look similar, although one side says "Bakery". The bakery side is even bigger with more choices. In the middle is where you can order coffee. In the bakery, you can can choose breakfast sandwiches and I ordered a chorizo breakfast sandwich which was very good! We also got their famous potato balls which have meat and cheese inside. The tricky part is that they give you a buzzer and you actually have to go to another part of the store (the other side and toward the back) to pick up your sandwich. I found this place to have beautiful looking pastries which taste very good. It's convenient and the entire place is a machine with very efficient workers that get you in and out. My beautiful, delectable Portos... Where do I even begin. I am a regular at this bakery and I cannot recommend it enough. The pastries are affordable and never lacking in quality. My go tos are the chicken croquette, cheese rolls, and the chocolate chip cookie. The chicken plate and Dulce de Leche latte are also stellar. This is the first place I take friends that are visiting out of state and they love it every time! Service is top notch. Even with a line out the door, you never wait longer than 25 minutes. In the rare instance that there is a mistake with your order, they are quick to make it right and offer a refund. Staff are always efficient and kind. I love Porto's. Their food is consistently excellent at all locations and I appreciate that their prices aren't crazy like most things these days. I came at breakfast time on a Saturday and the line was out the door. Fortunately, the line moves. It was challenging to find a table inside. The breakfast wrap was delicious and I could not get enough of the salsa that came with it. The cappuccino was the perfect accompaniment to the breakfast wrap. It was a little challenging to get a fork. I learned they only have it at the register so be sure to ask for it when you're checking out. Really sad to see the original location not on par with West Covina. West Covina is the more premium experience. They know how to run their business and stand on business. The scones were not the same size as display and I asked for the scone to be swapped. Yes, those scones are my mom's favorite, and the one you picked out was mini. Thankfully, they were able to swap it but with a tinge of attitude. I had to ask for the chocolate BDAY to put on my cake and was met with "you wanted it?".... Do better please! Meter parking outside but we chose to park in the neighborhood and walk over. Very big and plenty of seating inside. They're known for their pastries but also have cakes, drinks and sandwiches. Overall 3.5 stars I had heard amazing things about this bakery so while we lived in LA, we had to try this spot! The parking wasn't too bad, and this spot was crowded! I mean the line was about 40 mins or so, but we were determined. Inside gets loud and busy. We tried a few of their baked goods, the smaller cakes (tiramisu and something with guava), along with their potato balls. The food didn't live up to the hype in my opinion. Perhaps i felt like that becuase the wait wasn't worth it, but i had mixed feelings about the flavor and the taste of everything. The customer service was excellent through, they are thorough and have a great system going to manage crowds. Had the fruit tart which surprisingly survived a 10ish hour drive up to the bay area and it was great! Take it with a grain of salt because it had been siting for so long, but compared to whole foods, the tart is softer and has a bit of a cake texture with much less custard. Okay guava smoothie is the best smoothie I've ever had! Porto's s like a magical food court with multiple places to order, a coffee bar and lots of seating. I tried the potato croquette and was pleasantly surprised by the beef inside since I wanted some protein after my hike, it was a solid croquette. The empanada was okay too, nothing crazy. Same with the dome, everything was good but nothing was amazing like the smoothie. Yes there's a lot of hype and pomp around Portos, but finally took the rare opportunity to try it as I happened to be in the area. The service setup is fairly streamlined - a bakery half and a cafe half, but both effectively offer the same things - food, baked goods, and seating. I waited in a queue for only a few minutes, which was still a bit surprising considering it was late on a Monday evening; seating was basically maxed out as well, again given it was a Monday night. I did a wide breadth of a trial - guava strudel, pineapple empanada, opera cake slice, mango bomb, and of course their signature potato ball. The cakes were quite good; textures were as they should be, flavors were punchy, and portion was good. The potato ball was warm, crisp, and well seasoned throughout. While the flavors and prices were good, nothing was arguably exceptional. Prices were pretty on par for what is offered by other, similar establishments, otherwise I would've given them that last star. Overall, a great bakery, great flavors, great service. Worth the hype? I was pleasantly surprised at how empty this was because usually Porto's is always busy. While this place was still busy it wasn't the bcc racy out the door busy I'm used to. I tried to order online but the website wouldn't work for me so had to order in person and it wasn't bad. Staff is efficient and you can tell they are always ready/know how to keep the line going. We had breakfast here before our drive home and the Jazmine yuzu tea was delicious and so was the chorizo and egg Cubano. My boyfriend got the cold brew horchata and said it was good (although he liked my tea more). The seating outside was nice since it was a nice day and the inside didn't have any seats. This is the Porto's location in Glendale and like the one we visited earlier in the day, it was HUGE! Lots of seating available and they have so many goodies to try.
