    Mold inside Armenian Paska
    Anita S.

I bought the Armenian Easter cake (Paska) for $120.00 -- very pricey -- and when we cut into it, we found mold inside. I even took a picture to document it. Very disappointing experience. I don't recommend this place. Save your money and shop elsewhere.

The minute you walk in, your senses awaken to the smell of delicious pastries. One bite of this "hedgehog" did not disappoint. Highly recommend and coming back. They also serve trays with a generous variety of single serve portions

Gata aka Armenian sweet bread. Perfect bite size pieces of soft buttery dough. You can get them with filling or plain.

Stopped in to pick up some of my favorite Armenian pastries. Hands down the Borek and Gata are superb here. We went to 4 other bakeries and did taste tests and will definitely continue to come back to La Joconde especially for those two items. The boreks are LOADED with filling and the gata literally melts in your mouth. It's a cute, very well branded bakery with cakes, a variety of Armenian sweet treats like gata (sweet bread), borek (fluff pastry with fillings), baklava, kourabia (shortbread cookies), handmade chocolates, wedding cakes, cupcakes, fruit tarts, alfajores and lots more. Armen (chef/owner) also does custom orders. Highly recommend stopping in if you haven't already been and checking out this family owned local French/Armenian bakery They also serve bagels, croissants and coffee.

    Raspberry tart

I had such a wonderful experience here. The food is so good and fresh. When I went in, I'm trying to get something as least sugar that I can, I guess he is the owner - really trying to help me to choose the food. I told him I'm on nutrition plan that's why I cannot really eat too much sweet, but I'm super hungry so I have to grab something quick next-door. I can tell he such an genuine and kind person. And of course, the raspberry tart is fantastic ! I will definitely come back when I have a chance.

This is a much nicer inside than the outside type of place!

So yes, just walking looking for some coffee to keep me going for what's going to be a long busy day. Donut shop? Usually fine. But my eye caught this unique sign and said , now we're talking! Spent a good twenty minutes checking out what's inside, a charming French inspired pastry and cake shop. Apparently it's THE place for local Armenian Americans for getting their pastries on. Coffee and pastry is a common cultural thing and if you want a pastry chef owned and operated shop, this is indeed the place. Armand is Chef and owner, polite easy going family man.?Been at it for over twenty years I'm guessing and it shows. Tables outside for sitting so if it's raining don't plan on staying to enjoy a top notch Latte made with professional excellence. Coffee is robust and has an authentic aroma and flavor, been to Italy and France so I'm using my travel experiences to judge the quality. Starbucks is fine, this is better more authentic and slightly less price wise. I'm going to enjoy my spinach feta turnover, give the Auto shop a small box of pastries to get on their hood side, then saving the rest for later. Peach and pair tarts , a bit of this and that. Come see, experience the magic of this little place of French Armenian pastries. Worth the drive if your even an hour away. But come early or call to reserve or order a cake or something you fancy, they sell out by the end of the day. 8am-8pm Monday-Friday, open Sunday as well but close a 7pm. Like all fresh baked goods, bread or pastries I'd recommend mornings if you want the best he has to offer. Will hopefully be back, enjoyed my visit, was like I was back in small French village. If only he spoke French I'd call it a mini vacation, as it was I will say it was a real pleasure doing buisness with you Chef.

Delicious cake! Took this photo after we removed our candles so that's why there are some holes on top.

If you are looking for a birthday cake or just in the mood to eat dessert, Jaconde has some great options. I chose a two layer vanilla cake that had white buttercream and fresh berries in between and on top. I think other reviewers call this the "Charlotte Cake" but there's no little placards by the cakes with info lol Our family really enjoyed this cake. Light, fluffy and not too sweet. Something you could eat any time of day! One suggestion is to not go right when they "open" because they were actually not open when their hours said they would be. I had to visit the bakery a second time that day a few hours later to actually choose and pick up a cake, which was a little annoying but the cake itself we were very happy with.

    Neopolitan cake (different from Napoleons)

Have you ever had to search for a good bday cake a few hours before the party starts? I had a relative to help and all my usual go-to places were out of the flavors that worked for kids or didn't have the type of cake my guests would eat. After reading great reviews about La Joconde Pastry, I drove to a strip mall near car dealerships and stepped into the bakery, which was pleasantly decorated and had many cakes, pastries, cookies, and sweets I could see at a glance. I met Armen, the store owner, who helped me to figure out what I could pick up from the store right away and I ended up getting a strawberry shortcake, where Armen wrote a custom happy birthday message in dark chocolate. Guests including kids were happy with the cake, with some saying they thought it was better than other cakes at their usual bakeries! Taking the size, taste, freshness, and quality of the cake into account, plus the customer service, I think the cake was really reasonably priced at $34. There were also beautiful fruit tarts, four-type-of-desserts trays, and roulette cakes (one with chocolate cake and cherries!) that I'd like to try to bring to other group events. I've gone back to try or buy smaller items to give to others (usually at the end of the day, as I cannot pick up things in the morning). My favorites so far (after a week!) are the apple tart, cookies with fruit jams, and the Neopolitan cake slice. These items are soft and delicious; I especially recommend the Neopolitan which is a concoction of light cream, soft cake, and gently sweet crumbliness. These items are in the photos I uploaded with this review (most of which I gave away for others to try). I've not been someone to go back to a bakery several times in a week, even when I worked near big and popular bakeries in Glendale, Koreatown, other parts of Los Angeles, and the Bay Area, and thinking back, I guess that's because at some point if I taste an off-putting texture or taste in a pastry, it's hard for me to keep up any appetite to go back. I don't write reviews for the worst experiences I have. However, if I did, it would show how La Joconde Pastry is the very good exception rather than the rule when it comes to having baked items that are soft and delicious in very well-executed ways, even near the end of the day when it's harder for bakeries to have their best selections available. Definitely give them a try if you need a cake or other sweets!

How are their cakes? I'm thinking of ordering a custom Birthday cake.

I tried their cakes, those are amazing, very light, and very tasty. They have different types of taste and you can ask for samples. I would defiantly recommend you to order their cakes.
