I finally got to try SusieCakes this weekend and I'm happy to report it was worth the wait! I was in Pasadena so I went to this location but it's nice to know that have multiple locations around the city. The Pasadena location was nice and spacious and very clean and cute. They have a nice large parking space in the back as well. I went on a Sunday around 6:30 pm so it was pretty empty, which was nice. I think the bigger crowds are earlier in the day. They close at 7 pm so I just made it. Luckily they still had a few cupcakes left and plenty of the cakes left. I decided to get a slice of their old fashioned chocolate cake, and 4 cupcakes to go. I got a red velvet, a chocolate, a vanilla, and a mocha cupcake. Everything was delicious but I have to say that the old fashioned chocolate cake slice was my favorite. They give you a ginormous piece too which is nice when you have that craving. All the cakes were very moist and the buttercream was sweet but not crazy sweet which I really appreciated. For those who don't know, SusieCakes offers a free cake slice on your birthday if you make a purchase via their app. I went to get a slice for my wife's upcoming birthday, but the staff explained I needed to make a purchase earlier in the year to redeem the offer. While I was a bit disappointed, I understood. The staff immediately offered a free cupcake, which was incredibly kind and hospitable. I ordered a slice of Chocolate Marble Cake, which was decent, though a little inconsistent - some parts were moist, others dry. My wife loved her strawberry cupcake because it wasn't too sweet. I thought it was okay; I prefer other flavors. I'll definitely try the rich chocolate cake and another flavored cupcake, like coconut, next time. While there's no indoor seating, they kindly suggested we could sit outside at Randy's and Five Guys, as they share the same outdoor space. Stopped by here on a Friday morning. I've had SusieCakes a few times at other locations where someone else brought cupcakes as part of a celebration. I got a mini red velvet and a regular mocha. The mini red velvet had an almost crispy top and wasn't super moist. I still found it pleasant since it's so small and wasn't expecting it to live up to what a full sized cupcake is like. The cream cheese frosting was perfect. The full sized one was moist and the buttercream frosting was also amazing, but I found it a little overwhelming especially when paired with the white chocolate sprinkles on top. Not a huge deal since you can always wipe some of it off, but it did overpower the cupcake a little. Overall solid cupcakes! read more

I don't come here nearly often enough which is probably a good thing cause I'd gain so much weight. Cakes are classic. You can get slices or cupcakes. They even have cookies. I got several different flavors on this occasion to try. My fav was the lemon. It had a nice tart flavor. I could have done without the sugar sprinkles cause it was sweet enough with just the frosting. Candy cane chocolate was seasonal. Peppermint and chocolate flavored which probably sounded better than it tasted. It was ok but not special enough. Carrot cake had slivers of zucchini I think. It was good and my son's favorite. I got this birthday cake and served five hours later after sitting At room temperature. Honestly have nothing positive to say about the cake except the appearance. The cake was dry and just had the texture that it had been sitting for several days in a refrigerator. I could be wrong but I would not get another one of their products. Hugely disappointing and to add that at 63 dollars this comes up short of cakes which cost significantly less. They have many cakes on display which you could buy by the slice or buy whole cake and they're ready to go. They had a variety of cupcakes as well as holiday themed sugar, cookies that are iced. We got two slices of cake the carrot cake, which was unbelievable and the chocolate chip banana cake that was out of this world. I'm not a sweets person, but I ended up eating the whole slice. The items were made as requested and ready for pick up on time. You pre-pay on the website, so it's easy. Their items are fresh and delicious. I stopped by Susie's Cakes on a Saturday to pick up a birthday cake for my partner. I grabbed one of the small ready-made cakes from the display case, thinking it would be a safe and easy option. The employee told me that if I planned to serve it the next day, I should take it out about four hours beforehand, which I did. I really wanted to impress my guests and felt like I was going all out by getting a cake from here. When we finally cut into it, it was extremely dry. It was honestly embarrassing to serve, especially since everyone was looking forward to trying it. Don't believe the hype! Go to Porto's instead. We were so excited to have our cake from Susiecakes. After talking with customer service and going into the store to taste the vanilla/coconut cupcake, we decided to place our order for an: Custom Cake 9° Vanilla cake Coconut In Vanilla White Out 6 Layer / Add White Vintage Deco Fast forward to our pickup date. We had to pick the cake up over 2 hours later than initially planned because of the bakery calling around 9:15 to say they needed more time for the cake to cool because they had to remake it that morning due to it being lopsided (pickup was scheduled for 10). They said after 12 would be best in order to ensure the cake had time to cool again. I believe in the remake, that something happened that compromised the quality we know of Susiecakes we've eaten in the past. This was also an inconvenience as we had to delay our departure to our wedding in order to pick up the cake late. Then, we went to slice our cake at our wedding and could not get the knife through the cake! It was SO DENSE. I checked to ensure it was not frozen. It had been sitting out on our cake plate for at least 5 hours (they instructed at least 4 hours from fridge). I personally checked the slice to see if there were frozen components and it was not frozen, just dense. Our photographer had to ask us to try cutting the cake a second time because our faces were all distorted because we couldn't get the knife through the bottom half! How awful for our wedding!!! We were disappointed to learn our guests could not eat the cake, as it did not taste good. I tasted it myself and the texture was off and was extremely dense. I also spoke to my mother in law and mother, who shared that the cake tasted like plain vanilla, and not like the vanilla coconut cake we had ordered. My mom actually thought that we had changed the flavor. They also said it was so dense. The next day, I reached out to customer service to share my experience. They asked me to send photos of cake slices to verify what happened to the cake and then asked me to reach out to my photographer in order to get a refund. Unfortunately, I was not able to track down any photos of cake slices after asking family and friends. Then customer service gave us the run around and initially offered a $50 credit, which is not satisfactory for a horrible wedding cake that was inedible. I then asked for a refund. At no point did customer service empathize with the experience and even shared that they had called to location to which they reported that I was ok picking the cake up late. What was I going to say? No? It was my wedding day and I wanted to ensure the cake was done correctly. Customer service insisted that they needed a photo of a cake slices, to which I had none because the bride is not pausing the wedding to take photos of a messed up cake. Andrea from customer service was extremely rude and said she didn't have authority to issue a refund. After saying I would leave my review, I told her I would wait to speak to a manager since she insisted she could not authorize a full refund, and then offered a $175 credit. What would I do with a credit when this is for my wedding? I then said I would like to escalate the call and would wait for a call from a supervisor. After I hung up, miraculously Andrea processed the refund. All in all, don't order a special occasion cake from Susiecakes. I regretfully went this route and should have stuck with Porto's who would have never been so rude! And taste so bad! BRIDES BEWARE! read more

When I was able to order, I ended up purchasing: Susie's Nutty (Peanut butter cookie), $7.95- This cookie is pretty big and it comes with 2 peanut butter cookies with a nice generous peanut butter frosting in the middle. The cookie sandwich was moist, even when consumed the next day. It was pretty filling and honestly probably a good size to share with another (but I didn't, lol). Coconut Cupcake, $4.99- My husband opted to have a cupcake and shared this with our little girl dog. I didn't have any but he enjoyed it (and so did our little girl). Gingerbread Man, $4.75- I wish the icing on the eye did not smear. But the cookie itself was just fine. It was thin but moist and had a nice chew to it. I thought the flavor of the ginger was also there but not too strong. Gingerbread Woman, $4.75- I wished the face was decorated a little bit neater but the cookie was also good.
