This is a such sweet and much needed spot in our Pasadena community. Both Lynn and Shazi are very intentional towards us (my fiancé and I came in for a wedding cake deposit). Both women are intentional in giving us all the details and even made sure they understood what we wanted with the filling and design. The attention to details and kindness to customers is much needed in the busy or hustle and bustle of our daily grind. It is. We were celebrating our CU's 90th Annual Meeting and needed another cake to serve. Yelp brought me to this place and we decided to go cake tasting. This is just a storefront where people usually place the order and pick it up. We ordered a 1/4 sheet lemon cake with raspberry mousse. It was really good. Everyone loved it. I had my baby shower cake here and had it delivered to the place of my event. I ordered a round cake that would be used for photos and a sheet cake for serving. I forgot to ask for a cake knife so I was scrambling a little when it was time to serve the cake. It was weird that when the cake was delivered the round cake didn't come in a box. It was literally just the cake. Since I am not a new customer here I knew exactly what cake flavor I wanted and I couldn't be any happier. We ordered our wedding cake from Takes The Cake -- they absolutely live up to their name! We got an 8" cutting cake and sheet cake to serve to guests. The cake was chocolate on chocolate with fresh strawberries and a light ivory frosting. We also added the meandering vine design and buttercream flowers. Communication was super clear and fast, and we were able to try a few samples and finalize our order on the same day. Everything was magnificent! Ordered sheet cake for our wedding, white cake with mixed berry filling and carrot cake. Let me say that my husband and I loved both of them because they were so delicious, flavorful, moist, and just the right amount of sweet. Our guests finished the carrot cake and I was able to take home and eat the left over mixed berry cake myself and I can't wait to have more for other events. They did a great job on my wedding cake. We were able to taste samples before we picked our flavors and the cake was perfect! We ordered by emailing them. Cake wasn't cheap but it was much cheaper than what other bakeries quoted us. Our wedding coordinator said this is the only place she'd pick up from as she knows they pack the cakes so well. They also give you a grip for the bottom of the cake not to slide in the car and show you how best to transport and cut to serve. 10/10, ordering all our cakes from here moving forward. Was recommended this place by a friend who had an amazing experience here in the past so I gave it a try. I called on a Thursday afternoon in hopes to place my order for pick up on Monday but they said they close on Monday's so Sunday is the next available date which actually worked out perfectly! The service was perfect and so easy compared to other cake businesses. All I told Lynn was that I had a cake that I saw on their Yelp in mind and told her everything and she knew what I was talking about. The pricing is fair and understandable. The customization and everything went smooth and everything was ready for me to pick up on Sunday afternoon. When I went for pick up, Lynn was actually the one who helped me out and was so incredibly nice. She also offered me a non-slip placement for my car while transporting the cake! I've never heard of that before!! Overall, I will most definitely recommend this place to others :) **There is a parking lot behind their store which has plenty of parking spaces! read more

The let me do a sample box and let me choose 4 different cakes to do a sample box on Valentine's Day. A super cute idea that came to life thanks to "Takes the Cake". The cake was a lot drier than I thought but the flavors are great and really come through. If you're in need of a cake for a picnic or just want something simple with friends, I would recommend this place. Comments: the staff was super friendly and helpful. Made the process easier. I had a seemingly unsuspecting piece of cake at a kids birthday party and I have to say it was an 11/10. Seriously , everyone asked me where it was from and said the same thing. It's old school, delicious and reliable. I ordered vanilla frosting in white with pink cake and the Bavarian crème center. Out of all the bakeries we have contacted, they are the truly one who was very responsive, gave us clear flavor options and fair pricing. We ordered one round layer chocolate cake. It was very moist and not too sweet. The size was able to serve 10 people. The designed mug on the cake was cute and was nicely decorated. The staff was so nice and even gave us a rubber mat so the cake will not move during the car ride. We will definitely order custom cake from them again in the future. read more

I ordered a custom cake from them and it was so good. Everyone at my party loved the cake. It was a birthday cake on the outside and a sex reveal of my baby on the inside. I wanted a blue velvet cake but caveat is that their velvet mix already has red coloring. What was so great was that Shazi really tried to make it work for me. I thought i was asking for too much but she made work and did an experimental blue velvet cake with the ingredients they did have. The outside of the cake was just like the sample picture i found. I asked for no writing on the cake because i was going to make my own topper. They made some fondant leaves that match the cake theme tho and it was the perfect touch to the topper. The picture isn't that great because i didnt take a picture of the official set up but at least it shows what it looks like! read more

The product is consistent and perfect every time. Portions are pretty big. Even the single serve can be shared between 2 people. Please look up the menu before arriving. Usually to order you walk in all the way to the kiosk and order from there. If the line is long there's also a QR code on the right side as you enter so you can order from your phone as well. The only thing that's been a consistent issue is there's nowhere to sit. Seating is available inside and there's even a few tables outside but this place is so popular that all the seats are always taken. Be prepared to take your desserts to go. You can walk up to the pick up area and ask for lids.

I couldn't see myself studying or staying too long, which may be for the best since parking is tricky and street parking has a 2 hour limit. An okay experience, but I don't see myself coming back.

We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation. It was still busy, but there were not as many people waiting. The hostess was so warm and welcoming. She let us know that the customers at our designated table were almost done and that they will have it ready in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, those customers decided to linger much longer. Thirty minutes later, they were still hanging around. We fully understood that this was not by any fault of the restaurant. We continued to wait patiently. The hostess was very apologetic and was trying to work out a solution which led to the Floor Manager (Karla) getting involved. We were eventually seated at another table, with the option to move should the other table become available. Karla then took the time to apologize for the wait and unfortunate first impression. As we got started with drinks and a pastry for the daughter, the other table opened. The hostess immediately came to move us. It all went smoothly from there. Table service was casual and attentive. We started with the Chocolate Almond Croissant and the Baguette & Bordier Butter. The daughter tried the Iced Matcha Latte. For our entrées -- Shakshuka, Patty Melt and Brioche Eggs Benedict (with salmon). I was eager to try the Potato Gravlax, but it was sold out. :( Everything was so, so delicious! Fresh and flavorful. Lovely presentations. Very good portions. As we were finishing, Karla came to our table again to express her gratitude for our patience and understanding. She gave me her business card with an offer to contact her directly should we need another reservation. On our way out, I stopped to compliment the sweet young hostess for a job well done. I am very pleased with this Bakery. Its small, but packs a big punch! I had a bridal shower for my future daughter-in-law, and found this bakery at the last minute. I didn't make an appointment. Just walked in, and upon tasting 4 slices of cake, picked the flavor I like and ordered the cake. I chose the white cake, with Strawberry preserves and cream cheese! Yum! The cake was light, and the filling was yummy. I basically ordered a mini wedding cake, and it came out beautiful! And, very very reasonable! Everyone at the shower loved the cake, and asked where I got it from. I actually ordered more than I needed, and gave the bottom tier to the bride to be. She and my son, are on a strict diet for the wedding, so she took it to work. Needless to say, the people at her work, demolished it. Not a crumb left. I could not be happier with my experience with Takes The Cake and Lynn! We had a dinosaur themed cake made for my son's 2nd birthday. Sadly my son caught a terrible virus a couple days before the party and we were forced to postpone by a week. Lynn was understanding and gave us no hassle about the last minute change, which was so kind of her. The cake we got a week later was perfection! Takes The Cake recently did my husband's groom's cake and it turned out great. Very whimsical. It had an outdoor theme and were able to incorporate the funny cake topper I got at Michael's without a problem. The cake was white with a raspberry filling and was quite tasty. Fresh. I still go to them when I need a specialty cake for a birthday or other special occasion. They can be on the pricey side, but I don't mind that for a special event. read more

Beyond pleased w this cake shop, wow! If I could give more stars I would. We purchased a smash cake for our sons 1st birthday and it was so perfect. The color was exactly what I wanted and we were obsessed w the rustic design. I loved that it wasn't overly sweet and was very light.
