I called super last minute, maybe two weeks in advance for a cake I needed for my sons birthday party of 50-60 people. I was SHOCKED at how beautiful and fantastic tasting the cake was. They were prompt, and I was able to reveal the most wonderful cake I've seen thus far. Takes the cake blew us all away! I couldn't have asked for anything better. My fiancee, now wife, and I ordered our wedding cake here. We begain the process in 2020 before the shut down and everything. We started with a tasting. They were very easy to schedule with. The tasting was great. All the flavors were good and it was hard to choose but we ultimately decided on chocolate cake with mocha butter cream and lemon cake with raspberry and cream filling. We wanted a cake decorated with just butter cream and not fondant and they assured us that they could do that. At the time there was a sample cake in the shop that had something similar to what we wanted and they were able to create a design drawing that was just what we wanted with three tiers and basket weave designs. Then the shut down happened and we had to put our plans on hold. We had already paid our deposit but they said they would keep it on file for when we were ready. So this year we got in touch again and they worked great with us to get our plans rolling again. We firmed up the design amd we were able to give them some silk flowers for them to decorate the cake with. On the wedding day they delivered the cake right on time. And I can't say enough about how much we loved it. This was truly the most beautiful wedding cake I could have ever asked for. They decorated it perfectly. All the piping work was so beautiful and delicate. And of course it was very delicious! Both cake flavors were moist and flavourful. The fillings were also delicious and the proportions were just right. The outer layer of butter cream was tasty too which is why we wanted to go with butter cream over fondant. It was a little sweet so someone who doesn't love super sweet things probably wouldn't want to eat too much of it but it complimented the cake well. All our guests loved it and we even took some home and ate it later that week and it was still delicious. I would recomend them to anyone and I will definitely be going to them for any cake needs in the future. read more

The cakes that I've ordered from here are always for the Marine Corps birthday. They specialize in icing designs. I've tried the chocolate cake and the lemon cake. The lemon cake is delicious. The chocolate cake was pretty good if you like chocolate. The design is always great. Any time friends or coworkers retire from the military I get their cake from Takes the Cake. read more

I had ordered 2 cakes from takes the cake. One for my baby shower and the other for my sons 100 day celebration. I was referred by my friend who had her baby shower cake done by them. The Fondant is too sweet but I haven't tasted a fondant that wasn't. The naked cakes are really good and not as sweet as fondant covered ones. Emails responses are reasonable timing, pricing is affordable, cake tasting complimentary. The chocolate cake and strawberry cake are my favorites! Show them a photo of what you want they will try to match it. Any special events I'm hosting and needs a cake I'm definitely ordering it again from them! I don't know where to start with this! I'm so mad and it really ruined my baby shower. Every time I looked at the cake my heart sank. Not 2 hours after I brought the cake home I noticed something on top of the cake. It had bulged up and cracked. The lady said we could keep it out of the fridge2-3 hours before cutting. I've just never seen this and I'm so disappointed because I did pay a lot of money for this cake. The only saving grace was this cake did taste pretty amazing, but that's it! read more

This is my first time coming here, I heard amazing things about this place. Everyone who works there is so nice and helpful. I did a cake testing and literally all of the flavors I tried were amazing! Great quality, they were able to use two of my inspiration ideas and it came to life. Everyone at the party loved the design and flavor. There was so no leftovers and people wanted more. For flavors I picked red velvet with cream cheese, and white with strawberry mousse. Takes The Cake was our last bakery on our list for my sister's 70th birthday party. We were given tastings to take home and decide which ones we wanted. I loved that we were not rushed and were able to discuss what we wanted. More impressive was that the staff listened to my sister and they actually designed the cakes and they were perfect. 4.5 stars So...I finally ordered a cake from this 35 years in business, Pasadena, CA bakery...I've been looking for an excuse for over 6 months to partake of a cake from this bakery again. Takes the Cake specializes in custom cakes only. They do not have a bakery case for grab and go items. I ordered for a birthday/anniversary get together and it was the perfect excuse to order a 1/4 sheet cake to feed 20-25 people. They kindly let me sample some fillings with white cake, but I did not know they had lemon cake and would have loved to try that as I love lemon. I ordered the white cake with strawberry mousse on half and raspberry mousse and lemon curd on the other half. $60 for a 1/4 sheet. The cake was beautiful, they do a great job of making buttercream look like fondant. Everyone who tasted the cake seemed to like it, some said it was the best cake they have ever tried. I really liked the cake but to be honest it was not AS enjoyable as the first time I tried it but still a very good cake, especially when you want something nicer than a standard grocery store cake. The slice from the round cake I initially tried at a party several months ago seemed more pleasant to eat than a square slice from the 1/4 sheet. The layers of the edge slices on the 1/4 sheet cake also did not seem to stay together as well. They filled the cake a day before my order which surprised me, I know because I was going to change up the filling to add a thin layer of raspberry filling and when I called in they said the cake was already filled, regardless, it still tasted fresh for the most part. I ordered a separate $5 mini cake with the same filling to share with someone who was not able to make it to the party...she loved it! The mini was enough for 4 small servings, a perfect way to do a pre taste. All in all, not a full 5 star review because I was a little disappointed when I found out they use a flour cake mix for some of their cakes versus making it completely from scratch. I was also disappointed that the edge slices of my sheet cake seemed too delicate and the cake was starting to fall apart, almost on the verge of breaking into large chunks, and the layers did not stay together as well on the outer slices. If I were to order again, I would order a round cake versus a sheet cake, the ratio of frosting to cake was better on the round and more consistently even. With all this said, the cake was still very enjoyable but not absolutely perfect. read more

Takes the Cake completely blew our expectations out of the water. I ordered from them for my friends wedding and Shazi was so accommodating. We started with a cake tasting where we chose 4 cakes to try from. We were able to pick them up and take them home to try. We decided on the white cake with hazelnut Bavarian cream and it was such a crowd pleaser. Everyone was asking where we got the cake from and it got more attention than the food itself! I highly highly recommend this bakery for the cakes and great service. Will definitely order from them again! read more

I'm so happy I contacted Takes The Cake for my son's birthday party. I had emailed them a picture of how I wanted the cake to look. After they responded, I wanted to make a few adjustments to their idea. They quoted me a 10" cake, but I thought an 8" would suffice. I and talked to a wonderful lady on the phone & she took down my order. She couldn't tell me the cost over the phone but guaranteed she'd email me. She did just that & emailed me the price. It's a decent-sized shop with a few tables. Each table had a rose in a vase attached via velcro so you don't have to worry about tipping them over. The shop is also nicely decorated with wall art. It's been a few days since then and we can't stop thinking about coming back. They serve unique Middle-Eastern flavored ice cream. I ordered the Sesame Halva which is their vegan ice cream made of Halva ice cream with sesame & coconut. OMG, I've never tasted anything like this before. I love anything that has a sesame profile. If you like that nutty, sweet, and earthy flavor this one is for you. I could taste the coconut, but it wasn't overpowering. There were also little chunks of halva in there that added a slight bit of sweetness. The texture was similar to cookie dough, but softer. Aside from the taste, I loved the simple presentation of the small rose on top of the scoop. It made it look elegant. As you can tell, I am definitely coming back and highly recommend stopping by.

It's been a day and I can't stop thinking about it. I'm going back to get a bunch of them. They had the spiral chocolate croissant on their IG so I decided to try it. It was incredible. Inside it had a light chocolate custard or pudding. Not sure but it was delicious. I'm kind of a fatty so I wish it had Nutella instead. But it might be too rich. Service is always on point. Other times I've been and they are always kind and helpful. Lots of great spots to sit and eat.

Since I got two scoops in a small cup, I blended them in the cup until it was nice & smooth! What an absolutely delicious combo! Inside | There are large murals on the wall in beautiful pastel colors displaying travel destinations & scenery! Also travel books and travel themed items around! The service today was kind of meh the staff was awkward... feeling more like I stopped him from chatting with the staff from pressed juice But guess what, the ice cream is way too great. No time for awkward lol The seat was nice. The environment was pretty nice for a weekday. Highly recommend the new flavor!

I decided to stop by for breakfast one day to finally try their soufflé pancakes, and i will say they are the star of the show. The bacon and sausage are definitely lower quality pre-made items which i typically don't mind, but they do leave a lot to be desired. I got their oolong tea iced with cheese top; the cheese top is great on its own but i didn't enjoy it with the drink. That was probably my mistake for pairing to two, so i would be mindful of what drinks you add it to.
