The cakes that I've ordered from here are always for the Marine Corps birthday. They specialize in icing designs. I've tried the chocolate cake and the lemon cake. The lemon cake is delicious. The chocolate cake was pretty good if you like chocolate. The design is always great. Any time friends or coworkers retire from the military I get their cake from Takes the Cake. read more

I hired takes the cake for my daughters second birthday party where the theme was baby shark. I provided several photos of an underwater style cake with sand, sea life and shells for inspiration and they went above and beyond my expectations. The decorations on the cake were beautiful and very lifelike and the attention to detail was spot on. I went with a white cake with strawberry filling and it was absolutely delicious! The cake was moist and soft and the strawberry filling was perfect not too sweet and very flavorful. I am extremely happy with my decision to order from their bakery and will continue to do so in the future. My only regret is that I did not take any photos of the cake due to being so busy with my daughters party. Thank you so much takes the cake for a delicious and beautiful cake! read more

My fiancee, now wife, and I ordered our wedding cake here. We begain the process in 2020 before the shut down and everything. We started with a tasting. They were very easy to schedule with. The tasting was great. All the flavors were good and it was hard to choose but we ultimately decided on chocolate cake with mocha butter cream and lemon cake with raspberry and cream filling. We wanted a cake decorated with just butter cream and not fondant and they assured us that they could do that. At the time there was a sample cake in the shop that had something similar to what we wanted and they were able to create a design drawing that was just what we wanted with three tiers and basket weave designs. Then the shut down happened and we had to put our plans on hold. We had already paid our deposit but they said they would keep it on file for when we were ready. So this year we got in touch again and they worked great with us to get our plans rolling again. We firmed up the design amd we were able to give them some silk flowers for them to decorate the cake with. On the wedding day they delivered the cake right on time. And I can't say enough about how much we loved it. This was truly the most beautiful wedding cake I could have ever asked for. They decorated it perfectly. All the piping work was so beautiful and delicate. And of course it was very delicious! Both cake flavors were moist and flavourful. The fillings were also delicious and the proportions were just right. The outer layer of butter cream was tasty too which is why we wanted to go with butter cream over fondant. It was a little sweet so someone who doesn't love super sweet things probably wouldn't want to eat too much of it but it complimented the cake well. All our guests loved it and we even took some home and ate it later that week and it was still delicious. I would recomend them to anyone and I will definitely be going to them for any cake needs in the future. read more

I had ordered 2 cakes from takes the cake. One for my baby shower and the other for my sons 100 day celebration. I was referred by my friend who had her baby shower cake done by them. The Fondant is too sweet but I haven't tasted a fondant that wasn't. The naked cakes are really good and not as sweet as fondant covered ones. Emails responses are reasonable timing, pricing is affordable, cake tasting complimentary. The chocolate cake and strawberry cake are my favorites! Show them a photo of what you want they will try to match it. Any special events I'm hosting and needs a cake I'm definitely ordering it again from them! I don't know where to start with this! I'm so mad and it really ruined my baby shower. Every time I looked at the cake my heart sank. Not 2 hours after I brought the cake home I noticed something on top of the cake. It had bulged up and cracked. The lady said we could keep it out of the fridge2-3 hours before cutting. I've just never seen this and I'm so disappointed because I did pay a lot of money for this cake. The only saving grace was this cake did taste pretty amazing, but that's it! read more

4.5 stars So...I finally ordered a cake from this 35 years in business, Pasadena, CA bakery...I've been looking for an excuse for over 6 months to partake of a cake from this bakery again. Takes the Cake specializes in custom cakes only. They do not have a bakery case for grab and go items. I ordered for a birthday/anniversary get together and it was the perfect excuse to order a 1/4 sheet cake to feed 20-25 people. They kindly let me sample some fillings with white cake, but I did not know they had lemon cake and would have loved to try that as I love lemon. I ordered the white cake with strawberry mousse on half and raspberry mousse and lemon curd on the other half. $60 for a 1/4 sheet. The cake was beautiful, they do a great job of making buttercream look like fondant. Everyone who tasted the cake seemed to like it, some said it was the best cake they have ever tried. I really liked the cake but to be honest it was not AS enjoyable as the first time I tried it but still a very good cake, especially when you want something nicer than a standard grocery store cake. The slice from the round cake I initially tried at a party several months ago seemed more pleasant to eat than a square slice from the 1/4 sheet. The layers of the edge slices on the 1/4 sheet cake also did not seem to stay together as well. They filled the cake a day before my order which surprised me, I know because I was going to change up the filling to add a thin layer of raspberry filling and when I called in they said the cake was already filled, regardless, it still tasted fresh for the most part. I ordered a separate $5 mini cake with the same filling to share with someone who was not able to make it to the party...she loved it! The mini was enough for 4 small servings, a perfect way to do a pre taste. All in all, not a full 5 star review because I was a little disappointed when I found out they use a flour cake mix for some of their cakes versus making it completely from scratch. I was also disappointed that the edge slices of my sheet cake seemed too delicate and the cake was starting to fall apart, almost on the verge of breaking into large chunks, and the layers did not stay together as well on the outer slices. If I were to order again, I would order a round cake versus a sheet cake, the ratio of frosting to cake was better on the round and more consistently even. With all this said, the cake was still very enjoyable but not absolutely perfect. read more

Takes the Cake completely blew our expectations out of the water. I ordered from them for my friends wedding and Shazi was so accommodating. We started with a cake tasting where we chose 4 cakes to try from. We were able to pick them up and take them home to try. We decided on the white cake with hazelnut Bavarian cream and it was such a crowd pleaser. Everyone was asking where we got the cake from and it got more attention than the food itself! I highly highly recommend this bakery for the cakes and great service. Will definitely order from them again! read more

The hostess was very apologetic and was trying to work out a solution which led to the Floor Manager (Karla) getting involved. We were eventually seated at another table, with the option to move should the other table become available. Karla then took the time to apologize for the wait and unfortunate first impression. As we got started with drinks and a pastry for the daughter, the other table opened. The hostess immediately came to move us. It all went smoothly from there. Table service was casual and attentive. I was specifically looking for a refreshing little dessert, and this was perfect. The space felt open, clean, and refreshing when we walked in. I feel so bad because I wanted to remember the young lady's name--I believe it started with a B, maybe Bella? Either way, she made the experience that much more enjoyable. As soon as we walked in, I immediately needed to use the restroom, and she was kind enough to give me the password before we had even ordered. When I came back, she offered us samples, and they were actually nice-sized samples, enough for my boyfriend and me to really experience the different flavors. I got embarrassed asking to try more than two, but she was so kind and patient about it. I'm glad she encouraged us to sample them because we ended up getting the trio-flavor waffle cone. The tasting definitely helped because each ice cream had such a unique flavor that I honestly couldn't choose just one. I would most definitely come back. Great service, great-tasting ice cream, and the perfect little stop when you want something sweet and refreshing!

I ended up choosing the Glou Glou but was a bit too sour for my liking. Although, my friend got the Pandan ice cream which actually ended up being pretty good. Overall, good service and I appreciate that they let you sample a lot of flavors. I'm not a huge fan of their ice cream, but they shine with their huge variety of Asian-inspired flavors.

I am very pleased with this Bakery. Its small, but packs a big punch! I had a bridal shower for my future daughter-in-law, and found this bakery at the last minute. I didn't make an appointment. Just walked in, and upon tasting 4 slices of cake, picked the flavor I like and ordered the cake. I chose the white cake, with Strawberry preserves and cream cheese! Yum! The cake was light, and the filling was yummy. I basically ordered a mini wedding cake, and it came out beautiful! And, very very reasonable! Everyone at the shower loved the cake, and asked where I got it from. I actually ordered more than I needed, and gave the bottom tier to the bride to be. She and my son, are on a strict diet for the wedding, so she took it to work. Needless to say, the people at her work, demolished it. Not a crumb left. I could not be happier with my experience with Takes The Cake and Lynn! We had a dinosaur themed cake made for my son's 2nd birthday. Sadly my son caught a terrible virus a couple days before the party and we were forced to postpone by a week. Lynn was understanding and gave us no hassle about the last minute change, which was so kind of her. The cake we got a week later was perfection! I gave some ideas of what I wanted and she executed it perfectly. Not only was the cake awesome, but it was so yummy! Takes The Cake recently did my husband's groom's cake and it turned out great. Very whimsical. It had an outdoor theme and were able to incorporate the funny cake topper I got at Michael's without a problem. The cake was white with a raspberry filling and was quite tasty. Fresh. I still go to them when I need a specialty cake for a birthday or other special occasion. They can be on the pricey side, but I don't mind that for a special event. read more

Beyond pleased w this cake shop, wow! If I could give more stars I would. We purchased a smash cake for our sons 1st birthday and it was so perfect. The color was exactly what I wanted and we were obsessed w the rustic design. I loved that it wasn't overly sweet and was very light. While our son was demolishing this beautiful cake we got a few bites in- YUMMMMM. I will definitely be back for another cake! read more
