This is a such sweet and much needed spot in our Pasadena community. Both Lynn and Shazi are very intentional towards us (my fiancƩ and I came in for a wedding cake deposit). Both women are intentional in giving us all the details and even made sure they understood what we wanted with the filling and design. The attention to details and kindness to customers is much needed in the busy or hustle and bustle of our daily grind. It is. Dry refreshing dealing with people in the service industry that cares about getting your order and the most important day of your life right.
I had my baby shower cake here and had it delivered to the place of my event. I ordered a round cake that would be used for photos and a sheet cake for serving. I forgot to ask for a cake knife so I was scrambling a little when it was time to serve the cake. It was weird that when the cake was delivered the round cake didn't come in a box. It was literally just the cake. Since I am not a new customer here I knew exactly what cake flavor I wanted and I couldn't be any happier. Since I know what flavor o wanted choosing a design and having them execute it was no issue. My cakes turned out wonderful.
We ordered our wedding cake from Takes The Cake -- they absolutely live up to their name! We got an 8" cutting cake and sheet cake to serve to guests. The cake was chocolate on chocolate with fresh strawberries and a light ivory frosting. We also added the meandering vine design and buttercream flowers. Communication was super clear and fast, and we were able to try a few samples and finalize our order on the same day. Everything was magnificent! The cake was so delicious that many of our guests were asking for seconds. Thank you so much Lynn & Shazi!
They did a great job on my wedding cake. We were able to taste samples before we picked our flavors and the cake was perfect! We ordered by emailing them. Cake wasn't cheap but it was much cheaper than what other bakeries quoted us. Our wedding coordinator said this is the only place she'd pick up from as she knows they pack the cakes so well. They also give you a grip for the bottom of the cake not to slide in the car and show you how best to transport and cut to serve. 10/10, ordering all our cakes from here moving forward. Our cake was vanilla with white chocolate mousse and chocolate with chocolate mousse.
I had a very special theme for my 30th birthday. I have been planning this party since I turned 20 and I always knew how I would like my cake to look like . When i picked up my cake I was blown away ! Not only did it look exactly like I wanted it also tasted amazing! ( Got white/vanilla cake with white chocolate filling ) Make sure to order in advance ( I did like 4 months cus I'm crazy ) so that they don't book up . We definitely be back :)
I had a baby in bloom themed baby shower and takes the cake nailed my inspo picture! We ordered lemon raspberry and it was so delicious - very moist cake with the perfect sweetness in the frosting. This is my second time ordering a cake here and I will continue to use takes the cake for all my events. They make it easy and straightforward to order and pick up. Keep up the good baking!
The best to ever do it in Dena!! I love their cakes got a cake for my sister retirement party and it was perfectttttttt!!! OMG so tasty and moist! I have been coming here for years and every occasion for a reason!!! The art work is so bomb and they give you exactly what you want! They never disappoint me!!! If you want a cake that tastes VERY good come here!! You will not regret it! Good service, and reasonable!!
I ordered a Sonic-themed cake for my son's 7th birthday, and it was perfect! This was my first time ordering here, and they nailed the design exactly as I requested. The communication during the ordering process was super easy, and the cake was delivered right on time. Lynn and Shazi were amazing!All the guests, including the kids, couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. My son really loved the cake and said " Wow, This is the best cake ever! Highly recommend! *We provided the Sonic Characters For this cake.
Was recommended this place by a friend who had an amazing experience here in the past so I gave it a try. I called on a Thursday afternoon in hopes to place my order for pick up on Monday but they said they close on Monday's so Sunday is the next available date which actually worked out perfectly! The service was perfect and so easy compared to other cake businesses. All I told Lynn was that I had a cake that I saw on their Yelp in mind and told her everything and she knew what I was talking about. The pricing is fair and understandable. The customization and everything went smooth and everything was ready for me to pick up on Sunday afternoon. When I went for pick up, Lynn was actually the one who helped me out and was so incredibly nice. She also offered me a non-slip placement for my car while transporting the cake! I've never heard of that before!! Overall, I will most definitely recommend this place to others :) **There is a parking lot behind their store which has plenty of parking spaces!

Hands down the most amazing cake spot in Pasadena. Was looking for a new cake spot, saw this place on yelp and the reviews raved about it so I gave them a try and I honestly will never look anywhere else. The cakes I ordered were amazing! The design of the cakes I ordered were exactly what I had shown them in pictures. Very impressed. The taste was amazing. So much goodness in one bite. Everyone loved the cakes. Highly recommend this place. Just know this because they are highly favored..... they might sometimes be booked. Order in-advance and you can't go wrong. read more

I purchased a unicorn cake. I saw the cake on yelp. It's soo cute. I bought a round white cake with lemon mousse filling for my nieces 1st birthday. The guest we're saying how nice the cake looked and then how delicious it tasted I am very picky and I am very happy. Thank you to Lynn at Takes the Cake! I called for a last minute cake order for my husband's birthday and luckily she was available. I wanted something simple and sent a couple pictures. She delivered exactly what was requested and was super easy to work with. The cake was chocolate with raspberry and chocolate cream filling and my guests loved it. You could tell it was a great cake just from the perfect layers inside! Thank you so much, and I'll definitely be ordering from Takes the Cake again soon. read more

Damn it! I thought I left a review for Takes The Cake after they did our wedding cake back in May 2019! Well, this is long overdue... they are simply amazing. Emphasis on simply. The entire process of designing, ordering, paying for and delivery of our wedding cake to our venue was so simple... and EASY! They did EXACTLY what I wanted. My cake was gorgeous. They worked with my budget and gave me exactly what I wanted for a very very VERY good price. We had a 3 tier naked wedding cake with 2 back up sheet cakes... we have 150 person wedding. They also had a cake stand for us to rent! The cake was soooooo delicious and moist. It actually tasted better the day of the wedding than at the tasting which is a plus haha! I am now inquiring about my godsons small birthday cake because I trust them to get the job done right for a decent price. read more

I had my son's first birthday cake here and WOW, I am so pleased with everything! We had a Beatles birthday theme, and wanted a Yellow Submarine design cake. I emailed Shazi a photo of what I wanted, and when I came to pick up the cake, it was even better than I imagined! There was so much attention to detail. It was beautiful. The cake itself was so moist and delicious! Not sickeningly sweet, but sweet enough. The fillings were yummy-- i highly recommend cream cheese. I was pleasantly surprised that the outer layer was frosting instead of fondant-- the latter of which I am personally not a fan of. All my guests were raving about the cake! I had so many friends and family asking me where I had the cake made. This is my new favorite place to buy special occasion cakes! A little pricey, but worth every penny. read more

So glad I ordered a cake from this bakery. The owners were very attentive but, most importantly, the cake, delicious! It was two layers, one chocolate and one vanilla since some of the kids did not each chocolate. It was very moist and tasty and reasonably priced. Guests loved the cake, I will definitely order from them in the future. read more

We were super excited to find a custom cake bakery in Our neighborhood. We sent a pic of a chicken to them & specifically asked to make the Chicken "standing on top", not a flat one on the cake. The communication is quick and easy. However, we are pretty disappointed to see a "flat, printed" chicken on top of the cake when picking up our order. There's no way for us to make any more changes. We just hope that we could get what we really expected. read more

My second time coming here and I was blown away with how beautiful my daughters Baptism cake was made! It was so delicious too with fresh strawberries! I ordered from Takes the Cake for our wedding day. Not only was the cake absolutely beautiful, it truly tasted amazing, and I never enjoy wedding cake! I love that Takes the Cake uses buttercream to frost the cake, instead of fondant. I provided a picture of how I would like my wedding cake to look like, and Shazi made the cake look even more beautiful that I could have imagined. We picked two flavors for our four tier cake, with alternating flavors of each tier. Half the cake was a white cake with strawberry mousse filling, and the other was a lemon cake with raspberry and lemon mousse filling. Takes the cake honestly was the perfect choice as my wedding cake. No other bakery I looked into was better than Takes the Cake in terms of taste, quality, presentation, and price. I love our cake! I had to place a last minute cake order and Shazi was so helpful. She helped me design my cake, brought my vision to life, and was so prompt and helpful in responding to calls and emails. Her team was also so helpful when we picked up the cake. The even helped the cake into my car. I had no idea what the cake would look like when it was done but it looked better than I could have ever imagined and everyone asked me how I made a perfect silhouette of my boyfriend on the cake! My son had a specific request for a Mario Kart birthday cake. After exchanging emails and confirming our design with a phone call the perfect birthday cake was created. My son loved it! It turned out that many cake places are closed due to Covid19 including the one I usually order from. Quickly yelped and found this place. it was a rushed order and no one wanted to take an order. She asked me a few questions about whom I am ordering for. "Let me see what I can do", she said. 4 hours later... I was preserved by a beautiful modern birthday cake!! PERFECT!! What a talent! Honestly, it must have been a bad week for the bakery when they made my cake. I read so many good reviews and was excited to place my order for my daughters birthday. The day we cut the red velvet cake, it was dense and very stale. No one at the party ate the cake and I had to throw it away instead of taking it home. It was pretty upsetting. Other than that the design was amazing but I should have stuck with Cake Sensation when it was still open. read more

Came across Takes the Cake at an open house in Pasadena. By chance I had just gotten engaged so we were looking for a cake. My fiancƩ and I were both really impressed by their cake. We still did a cake tasting at a few places but hands down the best was from here. I wanted a white cake since its a wedding but also something tasty. I had several people come up to me at the wedding to say how great it was and possibly the best wedding cake they have ever had. For my sister's wedding, I scouted every bakery in town. Takes The Cake was by far the best on price and quality. Literally some bakeries were charging double for less cake & service. I don't think the quality could have been any better actually - we showed her our pinterest pictures, and she created a cake absolutely identical to or better than all the reference photos. Great cake, and great service, making sure she had all the details she needed to help us with coordination and delivery. read more

I ordered a customized cake here a week ago and it was perfect. I showed then a few images of Ghibli Studio characters to be placed on the cake and they did such a great job making the characters on edible material, placing the characters on the cake, improvising on the background, etc. The cake turned out to be above and beyond my expectations!! Takes the cake was able to give me the cake I had dreamed of. At first it was a battle with my wife but in the end I prevailed and I couldn't be happier. Our florist added the fresh flowers but the cake is the star. It was so good we actually served cake twice that night. They delivered it right on time with no issues that I am aware and it fit perfectly with the stand we rented from them. I wouldn't change a thing and recommend them for the ease and one thing off your plate with all the wedding planning. It was nice not having to worry at all about the cake, so professional! This bakery went over and above my expectations. Overall they were extremely pleasant to do business with, and very helpful. Although when I first tried to reach out to them via email, I never got a response - But seeing as the bakery's website was a bit dated, I didn't think much of it and called directly instead. I definitely suggest visiting them in person if possible. About a month prior to our party, I ordered a custom fondant sheet cake for my brother's nursing licensure. I opted for a simpler design, as I was advised that they did not do carved cakes. I had no problems with this because they were able to accommodate all the intricate personalization that I requested. When I actually picked up the cake, I was blown away that they were able to almost replicate the original design. I'm super pleased with how the cake turned out and my brother loved it. Not to mention that the cake itself was extremely moist and delicious - I chose a white cake with pineapple filling, which was subtle but still flavorful. Will definitely be back! Their amazing designs and artistry, coupled with wide selection of cake/filling options, dare I say... Takes the cake! read more

My husband and I went to 5 different cake stores to find our wedding cake. We came across Takes The Cake. The store was tiny, but the cake and service was awesome. My husband and I chose Takes the Cake to make our cake for our wedding. We ordered a 3 tier cake and a sheet cake. Everyone at our wedding was raving about the cake. We ordered 2 flavors, lemon cake with a raspberry mousse filling & white cake with espresso mousse filling. The cake was not only beautiful but it tasted so good. The service was amazing. When we came in to do a cake tasting, the staff was so nice. We asked to add an extra cake to our cake tasking, they were so nice and was very accommodating. The staff helped us figure out the best cake to choose from for our wedding size and help us determine the best design. My husband and I were trying to keep our wedding cake design simple and Takes the Cake nailed it. We will definitely be going back to Takes the Cake to order a cake for our next event. read more

This bake shop is legit. We asked them to do some special frosting requests and without hesitation they said of course. And the cake was so moist, red velvet is my dads favorite and perfect for his birthday.
