Batard & Cranberry
Marian X.

This place is amazing. I got two sourdough (batard and cranberries) and both tasted great. The bread is dense, chewy in the inside with a nice crisp outer layer. It is fluffy, has irregular holes inside, and a well balanced, tangy flavor. If you prefer more sour flavor then Seed definitely is the right choice. My friend and I went in the early afternoon and all of their pastries were gone already. Definitely need to go in early. The store is not that big, and everything is to-go only (or at least during the time when I was there). They have a parking lot in the back. I wish they could have an another store closer to my place. I would definitely recommend this place to others and go back in the future.

Salmon sandwich

Went here for the first time and loved it ! The salmon sandwich was probably one of the freshest tasting sandwiches I've had in a long time . The salmon/ lox itself was super good and tasted amazing . The cucumber and radish provided a good crunch . Overall great sandwich a bit on the pricier side but the portion is massive which makes it well worth it especially considering the quality.

More items through window

Everything was really good. We enjoyed the beef empanadas and the almond croissant which was flaky and just the right amount of almond flavor. The mixed berry croissant was nice and fruity with the custard baked into the dough. We plan to go back when we are in the area to try other items. When we first arrived, there was only 3 people ahead of us in line but by the time we left, the line had gotten much longer. There is no inside, you walk up and look at the items through the window and order with the lady inside.

Old brioche

I'm not surprised there isn't such a long line here compared to other bakeries. Today, I was given an old brioche. When I came back to ask if it had been baked today, the saleswoman said NO and sent me to the baker to complain. The baker started insisting that I just didn't understand what a properly baked product should be like. Such a shame. If your pastries are from yesterday, you should inform customers about it. I won't be coming back. Maybe it's a small thing, but this ruined my morning. On top of that, I came all the way from Santa Monica just to try this bakery in Pasadena. It's really disappointing.

Salmon sandwich w/o aioli

I came here this past weekend and the goods did not disappoint! Street parking is plentiful and it seems like there's always a wait? But it seems to move pretty quickly. This place has been on my list and always drove past it on a busy evening, but grateful to have tried it! The spread: -veggie quiche: honestly quite the best thing of what was available that day, but VERY dairy heavy, and quite massive -Gouache: amazing, like a cheezy popover? -salmon sandwich w/o the aioli: X dry at all. We thought maybe we would need a spread, but they dont allow replacements -drinks are not on the menu, but they seem to have coffee when they don't run out. We ordered the jamaica lemonade (made from scratch - very tart&sweet) and iced tea. Not sure if they'd be willing to do an arnold palmer of the two, but I kept mixing the drinks. I will definitely be back.

This is a window order service where you can view the available pastries through the window along the side of the building. We ordered six different pastries. I found the apple cider doughnut pastry a little disappointing and lacking in the apple cider tangy flavor, but otherwise everything else was good. There is a decently sized parking lot behind the bakery.

Parking is available. Woohoo! No seating available. You order at the window and get your food at the door a few feet away. Very cool I think. I ordered the cauliflower sandwich. OMG. IT WAS DELICIOUS. I'm not a cauliflower fan but this sandwich converted me. It's huge. But that didn't stop me from devouring it. I also tried the empanadas. They were okay. I will come back for the sandwich.

09/10/24 offerings at around 9:40AM

My husband and I have loved Seed ever since we first tried it this year. Their pastries are delicious, and if you are looking for specific ones, I suggest you arrive earlier on the weekends (probably 9:30 or earlier, or go on a weekday) to have your pick from all their offerings for the day that you can view through the windows. After making your choices, you can order from the worker at the corner window. Every time I have gone, the workers have all been very nice. ***Do note that they don't take cash, so pay by card or tap to pay! They also sell bread loaves, rolls, and prepared food like burritos and sandwiches (there is a menu next to the ordering window and you can see the bread loaves on a shelf from there as well), but I haven't tried them yet. I love the savory croissants, and my husband likes the empanadas and pies. The pastries are delicious as is but taste even better if you bring them home and toast them. It's not the cheapest place to get baked goods from, but I believe they are worth the quality and taste. They have two tables with umbrellas set up around the corner next to the ordering window if you want to stand around to enjoy your order, but it would be nicer if there was seating like a bench or something. I understand why they might not offer seating/indoor dining anymore since the surrounding area is not the safest, so Seed is more of a take and go place. We will definitely be back to try more things in the future!

Bravo Oh La La... à bientôt

First, the good: the cinnamon roll was moist and fluffy all the way through. No dry cinnamon rolls here! The service was also very friendly. The not so good: my first bite, which somehow managed to not have much icing, gave me a clear taste of the dough. It reminded me a lot of canned biscuit dough. I prefer a thicker icing, this one was quite runny and very sweet without any nuance to the flavor. Also, I really wanted to try the peach cobbler cupcakes but they didn't have any cupcakes in stock at all, only a few cake slices. We went around noon, and I hoped they would have plenty of options around that time :/ Unfortunately I've had much better cinnamon rolls elsewhere in LA. It's still tasty because, well, it's a cinnamon roll... but not sure I'll be back unless it's to try the cake or cupcakes.

I was so excited when it finally came, but then I realized that I didn't know where I could get a baguette that would match it in quality. I didn't want to wait until my farmers market day so I did some research. I came across the website for Tartine and, after reading about their bread, I had to try it. Just in case it wasn't as tasty as we hoped it would be, we decided to try the vegetarian quiche as well. We had it delivered so I can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant, but wow! The flavor! I was transported back to the café in Paris we'd go to every morning to start our day. Tartine's baguette smelled so good it made the roof of my mouth tingle. The crust was perfectly crunchy and the bread was so flavorful--tangy, a tiny bit salty (just the right amount to naturally complement the butter). The quiche was lovely: fresh, flavorful, and beautiful. A slice isn't inexpensive; however, it is huge, so it was more like two slices and that made it a good deal. Either way, it was worth every penny. I loved it so much that I am going to try every bread they have. I strongly recommend Tartine. It's divine.
