    Kimchi Spam Musubi Croissant
    Sarah C.

11/3/2024 4 1/2 Stars First heard about Sugarbloom via Yelp's Café Kitsuné reviews. Sugarbloom's Kimchi Spam Musubi Croissant and White Miso Kouign-Amann were their popular pastries to try. Read these items sell out quick at Café Kitsuné, so I've decided to buy directly. Sugarbloom also a supplier to many other coffee shops around the LA area. They also sell bake-at-home pastries too. ** Order needs to be placed TWO-DAYS IN ADVANCE! Pickup at the Glassell Park location or request delivery; available 7 days a week. Delivery costs $20 or more depending on your location. When you go to their website, their front page says, "Treat yourself to LA's best croissants. Delivery by our own drivers or pickup in Glassell Park available seven days a week." Delivery and pickup in Glassell will be highlighted as links to click on. You'll be directed to another page for details and bakery address. Also, they will send you a confirmation email with pickup details as well. Tried Sugarbloom over the weekend. KIMCHI SPAM MUSUBI CROISSANT Light crunchy layer of croissant. A thin slice of spam with kimchi and thinly cut nori flakes sprinkled on top of the croissant. Everything looked delish, well at least from the pictures. I cut the croissant in half and reheated it in the toaster oven. Inspite of the spam been sliced on the thinner side, it was still not heated through after being in the toaster oven for 6 mins. So basically it's eating cold spam with hot croissant. Sadly, the spam and kimchi together was salty on salty. There should have been a little bit of sweetness somewhere. An added layer of sweetness was needed to bring an overall harmonious flavor. Maybe like sauteéd onions or caramelized onions with the kimchi might even taste better and bring that sweet / savory balanced flavor. Overall, this croissant was a huge disappointment. I would not recommend. WHITE MISO KOUIGN-AMANN Highly recommend reheating in the toaster oven. I cut it in half and toasted it until it was hot to the touch and brown sugar was melted completely. The melty caramelized brown sugar with the salty miso and buttery crispy layers was delicious! Recommend! PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Reheat in toaster oven. Yes, burnt my tongue eating it as the chocolate was ooozing out of the crispy buttery croissant, but this is the only way to eat it! I love that they've added a good amount of dark chocolate inside too! VEGAN SESAME PRETZEL CROISSANT This is what you get when a pretzel and croissant get married. You can taste a bit of the pretzel flavor. It had a clean flavor. Best eaten reheated in the toaster oven. I ate it plain, but I can imagine this croissant having many possibilities. Eaten with jam and butter or compound butter or even enjoyed as a croissant sandwich. Maybe even with nutella too! This was delicious and I would definitely recommend! This was such an underrated croissant! My personal favorite! HAM AND CHEESE CROISSANT Reheated in toaster oven as always! Full slice of thinly sliced black forest ham rolled up inside the buttery croissant. There was swiss cheese and parmesan cheese which I can taste. Mozzarella cheese, provolone cheese, romano cheese, asiago cheese too and a generous amount of cracked black pepper on top. I really enjoyed this! I love cornichons, but it was an unnecessary addition. PICKUP Pickup was on Saturday. Parking is difficult. No street parking available, so had to quickly double-park. As long as you park your car close to the pick-up door, there's no issue to picking up. Rung the doorbell and door was answered less than a minute. My order was already prepared and given immediately. It is a small bakery located side by side on a street, two small red doors with a small sign of Sugarbloom Bakery painted in white. You will miss it if you drive fast, so when on Verdugo, please slow down and look for two red doors. If you do miss the pickup hours, then you must pickup the next day.

What a delectable selection of pastries! It was all well worth the wait. Just truly splendid. The white miso kouign-amann is even more delightful than I expected. I'm speechless

Plain croissant, chocolate almond croissant, miso cookie

Sugar bloom has some of the best croissants I've ever had. My go to chocolate almond croissant is car artisan chocolate in Pasadena but usually by the time I get there they're sold out most of the time so I've been on the looking for another place to get my croissant fix and I can safely say I've found it. You have to order two days in advance and pickup before 3pm but it's worth it for sure. Everything I got was good and I plan on trying the rest of their offerings over the next few weeks. The lady at the door was also super friendly. The store was easy to find but parking was kind of hard to find when I went at 1pm.

    Take and Bake Croissants!

What? How have I not reviewed this place? This is my gold standard for croissants and I'm still mad that Blue Bottle stopped carrying them. Luckily, they're still carried by places like Highlight Coffee and a couple local places in Culver City. You can find a list of carriers on their website and it is absolutely worth patronizing one of the listed coffee shops to try their pastries. That being said, all their pastries are solid... even their vegan stuff. I don't know what goes into or how it tastes so good but it makes me question my apprehension towards vegan food. Now the absolute best thing about Sugarbloom is that they offer take and bake croissants. You can order their ready made croissants OR a pack of frozens on their website and pick a day to pickup. If you love their croissants, think about how amazing they are fresh out of the oven. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can compare to waking up to a warm croissant. You can order ahead and pickup a frozen 6 pack at their headquarters and it makes me regret not living on the eastside. Parking: Free Street Parking, but limited. You text them when you're in front of the door and ready to pickup your order and they bring it out.

    Bake-at-home plain and chocolate croissants

I love SugarBloom Bakery!!! My wife and I love the bake-at-home plain croissants and chocolate croissants. It is the best combo, waking up to fresh croissants every morning would be the best way to start your day!!! Did I mention I love SugarBloom Bakery, some favorites mine are: Sesame Pretzel Croissant (vegan), White Miso Kouign-Amann, Spam & Kimchi Croissant, Miso Butterscotch and Triple Threat Chocolate chunk cookies, of course the plain/chocolate/ham and cheese croissants. Some items I want to try is the chocolate hazelnut croissant, vegan everything croissant. Anything else I should try?

Ordered some pastries after a friend recommended this place. I've never had a fresh cinnamon bun and my only reference was Cinnabon at the mall. The cinnamon roll from Sugarbloom was FANTASTIC and exactly what I expected. The pretzel croissant was perfect as well - it tasted like a pretzel on the outside and was perfectly flaky on the inside. Can't wait to try more of their pastries one day!

    Almond Croissant
    Marcus L.

Sugarbloom Bakery is the real deal. Literally everything I've tried is excellent. Everything is high quality - each piece looks great and tastes great. THE GOODS Almond Croissant - the croissant is perfectly flakey and the taste is just right Ham and cheese - perfectly flakey as well, just the right amount of ham and cheese Kouign-amann - crispy, chewey. Possibly the best I've had Pain au chocolat - just the right amount of chocolate. Same excellent pastry as the others Berry danish - this Danish pastry is a little different than the other items I tried. The danish had a thicker bite but was still soft and flakey. The pastry still remained crispy even with all of those toppings. Just really good. SERVICE It's covid season so what you need to do so order online (2 days in advance). When it's time to pick up, just text them and they will bring your order out. Wear your mask, pick up your food and you're set. I believe they also offer delivery. Details on the website. PARKING Street parking (free/limited)

In order of what I liked Cinnamon roll Kimchi spam musubi croissant Strawberry almond croissant White miso kouign-amann Maple pecan morning bun All were very good but the cinnamon roll and kimchi spam croissant really surprised me. Typically don't really like cinnamon rolls but this one really redefined what a good one should be. The spam kimchi thing tasted just like you would imagine but with a butter croissant. Strawberry almond was delicious as well I only got a couple of bites, my son ate most of it. The Kouign Aman was good but I didn't like the hard bottom but the tasted great. The maple pecan was my least favorite but still would be happy if I didn't have the others to compare to and just ordered it at a coffee shop.

Our friends got us a box of treats as a gift. I'm vegan so they were searching for some vegan treats. They got the vegan options that were available, the strawberry shortcake doughnut, brownie cookies, pretzel croissant, curry puff and the Black Forest hand pie. They were all really delicious! My favorite was the cookie! Probably one of the BEST cookies I've ever had (compared to cookies even before I was vegan), chewy and not too sweet . The croissant was nice and flaky, we even froze them because we couldn't eat them all right away and a few days later we just took it out to defrost and ate it without even putting it in the oven (it was still flaky and crispy!) there's only a few tried and true vegan bakeries out there I love and will always support, but an establishment that will give us vegans some top-notch, thoughtful pastry options is something I can support! I hope to see more vegan options in the future, maybe vegan cakes?! 10/10, will recommend to my vegan friends.

    2022.05.19 Twist - blueberry lemon
    Lis K.

Must pre-order days in advance so plan accordingly! So after seeing Sugarbloom's baked goods in various cafes, I needed to go to the SOURCE. First the level of high key communication confirmation and detail is one of the best I've experienced in the client service realm. The pastries are amazing and dare I say even better than the cafes since you can't get much fresher straight from the Sugarbloom ovens. They have a days in advance pre order pickup system that works fantastically for me. I parked on the curb (then even kindly give a heads up regarding some uneven tree root sidewalk action) texted the number provided in the detailed email, and had my items within 2 minutes. Excellent system Sugarbloom and excellent baked goods!! I'm more of a savory palette and the pastries are buttery and flaky delights. I did try the following non savory: Blueberry lemon twist - solid flavor performance on both lemon and blueberry as well as a lovely subtle herby accent In the pastry, rosemary? Blueberry cheesecake morning bun, def more of a flaky sugary delight than traditional "bun" and filled with a fantastic light blueberry cheesecake mix. Will update later as I try others!

Ask the Community - Sugarbloom Bakery

Is it really still "pre-order" with a 2 day advanced order? We can't drive up to pick up anything morning of?

    Yup

I see that your orders require two days notice. do you have anything for sale by walk in?

Everything we produce is baked to order... so at the moment, no. We are, however, looking into offering walk-in purchases soon.

Do they have any vegan baked goods?

Yes! At the moment our vegan items are a chickpea curry puff, savory galette, and chocolate brownie cookie. (We are also working on a vegan croissant but it's not quite ready for prime time.) You can find our current and up-to-date vegan offerings… Read more

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. My total was $15.25 and I paid cash, but I was given $4.75 in change. When I said it should be $5, she seemed confused and asked what I meant. I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. Clearly the quality and portions are going downhill. I wasn't even planning on writing this review. I was going to stay quiet, but the chocopie really ticked me off. I'm not going to pay for food that skims on ingredients and shortchanges customers by charging more for less, so this will be my last visit.

And I know that vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting is pretty easy to make, but sometimes I'd rather just buy baked goods than make them for myself, especially when I'm driving past what I thought was a popular (and presumably good) bake shop. I expected a high-quality cupcake. The cupcakes looked cute, but they were as dry as the Sahara. They should have been labeled as white cupcakes as I didn't detect any vanilla in them. I suspect that the "buttercream" was made with milk and margarine and powdered sugar.....so much powdered sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was dry too. And a true bettercream doesn't even use powdered sugar. So not only were the cupcakes terrible, they were not even what they purported to be. This is like calling a cut of meat a filet mignon and serving a hamburger. Von's, Ralphs and Albertson's make better cupcakes than this for a fraction of othe price.

That alone says a lot about a place. They were running low on several desserts we had our hearts set on, but we knew this before hand. They made things all fresh so if it sells out. It sells out. Instead the lovely people here offered us substitutes and made sure we still had a wonderful experience. We ended up with the crème brûlée (Tahitian vanilla custard with fresh berries and a mint leaf), the affogato (vanilla gelato, house brewed espresso, vanilla whipped cream, served with an espresso macaron), and chocolate gelato! Everything was divine! Love every bit of it! Bottega Louie WeHo is the kind of place that makes a special occasion feel even more special. We'll definitely be back -- hopefully a little earlier next time so we can get our first picks from the dessert case!

I found out that apparently they replaced the opera cake with the tiramisu! I need to taste the tiramisu and the chocolate soufflé there next time. My birthday is coming up so I think I'll have one dessert everyday here My bf is def so bummed about the opera cake though, hopefully they'll put it back on the menu soon! Every single time we pick it up from bottega Louie it's so nice. There was just one time on doordash we had a bad experience. I also really like talking with the staff here- they're always so sweet and it's also in such a nice area. I haven't tried the DTLA location yet though.

My friend and I finally decided on the pepperoni pizza, the Brussel sprouts, and the Belgian waffle. The pizza was so delicious; it was evidently fresh, made with fresh mozzarella and tomato. The crust was perfectly cooked and crunchy! We were very impressed with the Brussel sprouts. They came mixed with candied walnuts, which was definitely my favorite part about this whole meal. We ate the Belgian waffle last. I thought it would have been too dense or soggy by the end of our meal. It ended up being completely perfect. The only thing I wish was that we had more of that wonderful vanilla whipped cream and fresh seasonal berries. I brought my bff here as a graduation gift. We left with full stomachs and very happy. I loved the decor and elegance of the restaurant. We will return to try the pastries next!!

Brussel Sprouts was perfectly roasted and the walnuts gave it a crunchy texture. Lobster Hash - I was surprised it was a real lobster tail. The dish was very delicious. Smoked Salmon Egg Benedict- the egg was perfectly poached and once you break the runny yolk on the egg muffin it was so yummy. Napoleon cake was very crispy layered with very smooth cream. I also got macarons to go and thought it was reasonable in price 6 pieces for $20 and you get a really pretty box. I really liked the Dubai Chocolate flavor.
