Spontaneously dropped by Magpies while walking around the area. How I would describe it in a quick sentence is: it was good for the moment, satiated a craving during a heatwave, not something I'd think about beyond that day. They have a large handful of soft serve options and toppings you can add for an extra charge. I like that some of the toppings are whole and chunks ie. the brownie bites. The soft serve itself isn't too sweet which is a win in my book. The staff was okay and helped our way through ordering since it was a first time.
Many flavors always delicious- but I insist the strawberry is the best! ;) I usually get a waffle cone. They are open later than the nearby frozen yogurt place which is how I and my friends first darkened their doorstep.
Pretty good ice cream pies - vegan or not! Went for an after dinner dessert. Grabbed a few pies - they were pretty good, not too sweet, definitely couldn't finish them all ... probably 1 pie per 2 people sort of vibes. I think I could have done with less of the whip cream stuff in the pies. If I'm feeling for another ice cream pie sometime, I'll def consider them!
Just popped in for some vegan sweet treats and we are not disappointed!! They have vegan allergen friendly options too! The employee who helped us this evening was very kind. They have small bench outside to sit and enjoy your soft serve! Heads up they don't take cash (most places don't) but I noticed it on their door and figured it was worth mentioning!
the service is amazing and super friendly! wish i got the name of the guy working wednesday night. he was sweet and very bubbly/helpful. flavors are noticeably vegan unlike awan, and a bit pricier. much sweeter as well, but the flavors are fun and more classic if thats what you're into!

As part of our mini vacay, we decided to spend time with our Baby Girl and since we had eaten dinner, she planned for us to grab dessert somewhere. Prior to us meeting up with her, I requested that the place she takes us to has to have ice cream. She took us to Magpies Softserve and besides satisfying my request for ice cream, Magpies also serves delicious softserve pies. The softserve desserts here are en fuego and customer service was friendly and positive, but space to lounge is minimal and the two softserve sample per person is untenable. Magpies is located in Silver Lake Los Angeles specifically on the road that leads to Griffith Park Observatory. If you finished a workout at the Observatory, driving down to Magpies would be a great reward especially if it's a warm Los Angeles day. The shop is located on the corner of Griffith Park and Hyperion specifically within Merrill Plaza. Other tenants in the plaza are Meze, Jersey Mike's, and Postalworks. There's a private parking lot with tight spaces and I got nervous thinking a car was going to hit me as they were backing up. Magpies is a small softserve shop with no seating inside except for a standup slate of wood to eat on. There are two outdoor benches you can sit on and eat your desserts. It's bright inside the store; there's an Andy Warhol inspired art piece showing a variety of softserve pie slices; a large piece of artwork hangs on one of the walls with the business name in neon and softserve ice cream cones depicted in what looks like graffiti; and the register counter and workspace island have a colorful mosaic design. The gentleman behind the counter and who I believe was his female manager had a positive disposition and provided friendly customer service. When I perused their menu, I knew that I was going to order their softserve, but there were 8 flavors and I couldn't tell from the name of the flavor whether I wanted to order it. I asked the gentleman if I could taste several of their flavors. I asked to taste date shake, corn almond, malted milk shake, and sweet cream. After I tried my third flavor, the gentleman politely said that they only allow two samples per customer. I honestly don't feel that's a smart business restriction because customers can't tell from what's listed on their menu what a flavor tastes like. I was slightly taken aback when he mentioned this restriction to me, but he allowed me to sample more flavors stating that he didn't tell me ahead of time about this restriction. I've been to Salt and Straw, Baskin Robbins, and other ice cream shops and not once did they tell me there was a limit to the samples I requested. After my samples, I decided on a regular cup that comes with two flavors and I selected corn almond and sweet cream with toasted almonds as a topping for an additional charge. The corn almond tasted like Frosted Flakes and the sweet cream combined well together. They were both creamy, luscious, and the toasted almonds added texture to what was already a delightful dessert. I thought both flavors were really tasty. For the health conscious, some of the softserve flavors are vegan and gluten free. My daughter has not steered us wrong with her restaurant choices and tonight was no exception. Her choice of Magpies Softserve for dessert was a Mag-nificent selection and I'd love to try their nutter butter softserve pie the next time we visit.
I love the Vietnamese coffee pie, especially the cream on top and the caramel. I also liked the mango sticky rice pie but the texture wasn't as creamy since it's vegan, still a delicious flavor tho (more lime than mango)
Great vegan ice cream! The corn almond was so intriguing and I would get that again. I got the original pie which is delicious but it takes about 15-20 minutes to really thaw enough to eat which is frustrating but that's just the ice cream and I get that they have to keep it frozen! There's not anywhere to sit inside, it's very small, but they placed benches outside which are nice. This place was so popular. People were coming steadily even at 10 pm and eating in their cars in the parking lot when the benches were full. Worth the drive to LA.

We went with the Original Fried Pie, which was frozen, so we waited around 10 minutes for it to thaw. It turned out to be a little too sweet for us, but still enjoyable! Note: there is no seating inside, just a standing table area, but there are two benches outside.
Food was very good especially the pistachio flavor pie. Definitely should listen and let it thaw though. A little pricy for a slice ($12-ish?) but yknow now it's kind of normal these days alas alas oh my poor wallet. Also thank you to the man who let us sample things and was patient at night time. very good service. Also has a small parking lot so yay. Ambiance is nice but no indoor seating. I like the decor. Late night sweet treat shout out my boi (my sibling) wow the sorrows that permeate our souls know no end. We walked around the parking lot to let our pie thaw and it was good, did not fix all my problems but at least I ate pie. Also shoutout my coworker who recommended this place even though they told me about my zodiac sign and hurt my feelings (apparently Aries moons are dramatic and that's the most hurtful thing ever how will I ever recover) I'm joking bye g

We stopped to get some gas and saw across the street, Magpies Softserve :) So my girlfriend and I came by and were hooked! We brought the other girls we were meeting up with and they too loved the softserves. We love their: - Brown Sugar Vanilla - Miso Caramel (more on the caramel side, barely taste the miso) - Orange Creamsicle - Malt Chocolate - Corn Almond (faint almond taste) And of course, you have to get the delicious toppings of Butterscotch Rice Krispies and the Honeycomb. We have been back a couple of times and always hits every time. The Staff is always excellent and kind. Magpies changes some of their flavors every week. Thank you Magpies Softerve!

This place is always so busy but for good reason. The soft serve is creative and I always walk away super satisfied. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about their menu. Place is cute with an Instagram worthy wall to take photos of your ice cream. read more
Always yummy. They have great vegan options and I'm not even vegan but it tastes ssoooo good. I really like the chocolate flavor and butterscotch krispies. It is on the pricier side but they do have rewards with occasional coupons. They have a parking lot but it fills up quick. There's meter options too but may need to walk/cross street. read more

Magpies Soft Serve is a solid spot for dessert. I went on a Saturday night, and there was no wait, which was a nice surprise. I tried the Oreo pie and the hot chocolate pie, both were great and completely vegan. Honestly, I couldn't even tell they were vegan, which says a lot about how well they're made. The pies were rich and flavorful without being too heavy, and the textures were on point. I've been underwhelmed by other dessert spots in LA before, but this place really hit the mark. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something sweet, especially if you want vegan options that don't compromise on taste. read more
It was dessert o'clock for my wife and I when one of us (her) really wanted some soft serve ice cream. We turned to the yelp machine and Magpies soft serve was at the top of the list! We headed to this location which I must say, has such an awful parking lot but so does so many other things in this city. After struggling to find a spot, we finally got lucky and headed into this small ice cream parlor. The menu here isn't massive, but offers a decent size soft serve selection as well as a big selection of pies. I'm a simple man, so i stuck with a soft serve cone with two flavours, those being the malted milk chocolate and the cookie butter. The whole experience was super quick and before you know it, we were seated at a bunch outside eating some ice cream. Both flavours tasted good, although I honestly couldn't really tell the difference between the two of them which I started. The ice cream itself was tasty, the cone was good, and I finished my cone with a smile on my face (before also finishing my wife's corn almond ice cream which was solid, but not a flavour for me). Overall, Magpies Softserve scratched that soft serve itch that seems harder and harder to scratch these days. The location wasn't the best with the parking, but that's LA for you. Best ice cream in the city? Nah, but it might be the best soft serve around. read more

Stopped in before a show. We both got minis , I got a chocolate malt/ sweet cream swirl. I didn't taste any malt but that's okay. My husband ordered the pog/coconut swirl and ended up throwing it away due to it being not great at all. While the flavors were good, I think the prices were a little steep. Our minis were 6.50 and very mini. It was a $1 to add sprinkles, yikes. It's a clearly popular place with people going in and out while we sat outside and ate. Parking was easy on a Wednesday night but it's small parking lot so the weekends are probably pretty tough. read more

I ordered one of the soft serve of the day options in a cup. I picked the Thai tea & coconut sticky rice swirl. The flavors are vegan and gluten free- love that they have labels on their menu. Great Thai tea flavor and the coconut sticky rice tastes on point just in soft serve form. Service was fast there was one person in front of me in line. read more

I treated myself to a slice of the cookies and cream pie, and it was absolutely perfect. The texture, the flavor, the layers..everything was spot on. The cream was smooth and light, the chocolate cookie pieces added the perfect crunch, and the whole thing tasted freshly made. You can tell care goes into the desserts here. The portion was generous. This was my birthday treat to myself, and I couldn't have picked a better place. Thank you for making my day a little sweeter. I'll definitely be coming back! read more
My husband surprised me with Magpies Softserve one evening, and I can't believe I've never tried this place before. The original fried magpies softserve is so good. There's these big honeycomb bits and they're so good! It has some sort of fried cereal crunchy on top too that adds more of that texture. We also tried the cookies and cream magpie, and that was so good too. I can kinda tell the softserve part of the pie is vegan, but the whipped cream, chocolate and everything else is very convincingly dairy, and it's so good. These pies also have an extremely satisfyingly thick cookie crust. I would pick this place as my choice of dessert over and over again! read more
This gem serves great ice cream! It may be called soft serve and may be served from machines but it is excellent tasting ice cream. The elicits are clean, fresh and offer something to everyone even if you have dietary restrictions. The store is clean, welcoming and free samples can be beat. Maybe I was the only one who didn't know the squiggly line next to the flavors meant they can be swirled together....duh; still learning! We opted to share 2 flavors, that weren't swirlable we got malted milk chocolate and let lime. Chocolate was perfect and key lime was creamy and tart. I loved that even in 80 degrees or ice cream didn't melt into a puddle; therefore making the experience great! We weren't forced to eat faster because of the temperature!! I recommend this shop! OMG the pies are the best thing here! The soft serve is pretty good too, but by far it's all about the pies for me! Very charming inside, but no seating area, so keep that in mind. The pies are more frozen and ice cream like so they're perfect for taking on the go and enjoying later too. read more
These pie slices are a fun and unique dessert! Personally, the Original Fried Software was too frozen where it wasn't instantly enjoyable and broke our fork- we had to let it sit for awhile before consuming. The Turtle Softserve was delicious and perhaps for better with each bite! I'd certainly get the Turtle again! read more
The best soft serve ice cream in the world!! I am so in love with Magpies. It's the only ice cream I've been having for past few years now. The flavors are superb, the perfect soft texture, not overly sweet, spot hitting delicious goodness...that will keep you up at night wishing -I wish Magpies was open right now. :"-(. My absolute all time fav flavor is a combo of - "Malted milk chocolate" and "sweet cream." I like them side by side, With the toasted almonds. So it's a combo of sweet chocolate, ice cold cream, and crunch crunch crunch. Bite, after bite. Get ready to smack your partners hand, when they try to dip into your ice cream. "Mine only! Get your own!" You will not want to share. Highlights- -Unique flavors -Check menu for seasonal flavors -Ice cream options -side by side or swirled. -They are famous for their magpies (ice cream pies). My bro -loves them. He has to have his fix whenever he's in town. I haven't tried them yet. Yes the service has always been friendly. Yes they do samples. Yes they're vegan friendly. Yes they have a little IG friendly wall. Ok now can we talk about how ridiculously accurate the flavors are?! I've seen places try to pass off normal chocolate for things like chocolate fudge brownie or flourless chocolate cake, but Magpies delivers on their flavor promises. Also, you can see what flavors they have before you drive over just by checking their website. No more wondering if Key Lime is back on the menu, boys! They also make ice cream pies and serve single slices which, as a lifetime ice cream cake on my birthday kind of a guy, is something I appreciate. read more
