Yes, the cupcakes are as consistently yummy and moist as they are prettily decorated. Yes, the interior of the shop is clean, bright, and bursting with color. Yes, there are drinks, and savory food, and other tempting things in and behind the bakery cases. What I witnessed this morning between the shop workers and the customers gave me something to meditate on. I overheard the people in the shop talking to each other about what ultimately resulted in an act of kindness for another customer. What transpired happened over the course of a couple of minutes, but it was done so simply and quietly as to not draw much fanfare. It seems like these small acts of generosity happen regularly, and it's simply reassuring to see the goodness in people that we may not have normally noticed. First off, beautiful ambiance to sit down in and friendly staff. Hadn't been here for about 3yrs. so I was shocked with the price changes in cupcakes. I remember the mini cupcakes were a dollar less each. I was bummed out to see that the Fleur de Sel no longer contains himalayan pink salt but regular salt dyed pink. I think what sealed the deal was that it wasn't moist or that is wasn't rich in anyway. Seems like Betty Crocker in my opinion. I have been a Dots customer for years and maybe this review is long overdue . I love everything about this small business , from the customer services and their above and beyond care mentality. The cupcakes are always a huge hit at all my events , parties and gatherings. Whether I choose to go with a large or mini cupcake selection the sugar is never overpowering on either size and they use just the right about of frosting. The frosting might I say is fluffy/ buttery and not dense blob of sugar sitting on top. Now let's talk about the design... if you order from DoorDash, they make sure to put a little bit of every flavor, in every box, with every decor that you can possibly think of , which is a delight when the little ones open the box and see the cutest little cupcake staring back at them. I've been a long standing customer since they were at the original location on arroyo going back since when my kids were babies and now they're college graduates. We would go weekly and no one could compare to these delicious moist fresh decent size cupcakes. For the last five years I've been going back thinking maybe the bakery is having a bad day or Covid was crazy because the cupcakes became dry, hard inside and the top of the cupcake. Come yesterday I was they're a year ago because the cupcakes were horrible dry not moist, the passion fruit cupcake had changed from using delicious real whip cream moist with a good amount of passion fruit filling and soft and so moist to dry, barely any filling and the whip cream had been changed for awhile. It was hard and not the same tasting delicious whip cream made from scratch that they use to use in arroyo and fair oaks. We went Saturday to pick up a dozen we got six passion fruit, two red velvets, chocolate, fleur, an a few others and first off the passion fruit were so hard and disgusting it was terrible. The whip cream was hard and tasted low grade and they look like they have shrunk and the rest of the cupcakes were hard once again a terrible. We spent $49.00 and it was a waste of money and the cupcakes are sitting on my table because they were lousy and everyone don't want them after the first dry bite. On top of that I think it might have been the owner because I've seen her before and she looked aggravated and was so rude. I don't know if they're expanded to much and they don't make the lm everyday or what they're doing but these cup asked were worth every penny before and now they're not worth even a dollar even if they use Madagascar vanilla which is always the reasoning why they have to raise prices. I don't usually post lengthy reviews unless the experience is extremely good or bad. But this is bad. My family fell in love with dots family meals. They r good in quality and in taste and feeds a family of 4 and I have been ordering the family meals once a week and this week I ordered TWICE. They take pre orders and pre payment for their family meals. I pre ordered this Wednesday and picked it up and everything was great. I also pre ordered 4 DAYS BEFOREHAND to pick up this Friday and they confirmed my ordered. My family and I really liked their food and this Friday they had a family meals with steak, pasta and cookies that we really really wanted to try. I told my kids about dots and their meals since this Monday. They liked this Wednesday's so we were so excited about the Friday family meals and we were so looking forward to it and everyday this week I was prepping my family and saying oh they have steak and pasta and cookies! So I drove the family to the Santa Anita mall and had a great time and told them on the way home we will pick up dinner at dots and they were so excited. We arrived at dots and I went inside to pick up my order and they TOLD ME THEY DIDNT HAVE ANY??? I'm like what do you mean, I pre ordered 4 days ago. I don't get it. The owner lady said someone came in to pick up the last one? Huh?? I preordered and confirmed the order for pick up and they gave the last one to some other person? How does this happen?? All she did was apologize and didn't even make me feel any better or remedy the situation. I told my family about this dinner 4 days ago and prepped them and they were so happy but I walked out of dots with nothing! Being sorry doesn't feed my family. What does pre ordering and pre paying do when they don't even honor it ?? She said they made the exact amount of preorders. Obviously not! Someone messed up bad and gave my food away or didn't make enough food. I don't even know what happened. I felt so bad. I had to walk to the car empty handed and my family kept asking me what happened and I had to tell them they didn't have our food and we had to go somewhere else for dinner. They were so disappointed to the point of almost crying and I felt so bad and felt helpless. This whole experience was horrible. I regret counting on dots to deliver. I was a loyal customer but not anymore. I was going to order for next week for Christmas Eve. They are doing a prime rib family meal for $175. Expensive but was gonna order at least 3 for a family party but not anymore. I don't want to show up empty handed and can't trust that I would even get my food I preordered. I rather go to an establishment that actually puts customers first and knows what they are doing. If they mess up, take the blame and at least make me or my family feel better but I walked out of there feeling ill to my stomach. To see your kids faces so sad is just heartbreaking. read more

I've never stepped in their shop before but I often receive these cupcakes as gifts or have them at other people's birthday parties. The cupcakes are beautifully decorated and although the minis are small in size, the frosting can still be a little much if you're not too keen on sweets. Decent cupcakes - a good treat if you're in Old Pasadena. There is a large lot on the corner of Green and Fair Oaks with 90 minute free parking which is just a block away from Dot's. Street parking is impossible. The shop is small but cute. I purchased a raspberry lemon cupcake and a chocobutter (chocolate and butterscotch). They were nicely boxed and I took them to enjoy a few hours later. Both cupcakes had cake that was in-between moist and dry. The raspberry lemon was definitely more lemony. The frosting tasted like lemon and there was a big dollop of lemon goo in the cake and a smaller one of raspberry. I thought the lemon was quite vibrant. I love lemon so enjoyed this one but you'd probably be disappointed if you were after a lot of raspberry taste. The chocobutter had a rich chocolate flavor in both frosting and cake. I didn't detect any butterscotch which made me wonder if she gave me the wrong cupcake...or maybe that's just the way it is. I did like it though. It was open and it wasn't that far from me in beautiful city of Pasadena right off of the Fair Oaks from 210 freeway. They had the most beautiful regular and mini sized cupcakes ever. Sparkly, delicious and beautiful cupcakes that came in so many different flavors.
