Okay, when you willingly make the drive from Fullerton to Burbank for an almond croissant, that should tell you everything you need to know. My son found Altadena Bakery during one of his random college-area adventures while seeing it on social media and told me we HAD to go. I figured, sure, it's a bakery. How serious could this be? Apparently very serious. First of all, walking in and seeing that pastry case is dangerous. Everything is absolutely beautiful, the fruit-shaped desserts almost look too perfect to eat. Almost. We grabbed several because obviously self-control had already left the building. But the almond croissant? THAT is the reason for the drive for me. Flaky, buttery, perfectly crisp on the outside, soft inside, and filled with just the right amount of almond. No dry, sad croissant nonsense happening here. It was worth every mile from Fullerton to Burbank. Everything we tried was delicious, fresh, and almost ridiculously pretty. My kid definitely gets credit for finding this one. A couple of my friends joined me, so we decided to order a variety of things to share. We start with the desserts! Extremely disappointing experience, both in terms of the food and the customer service. We spent over $70 on multiple pizzas, including a specialty Nutella pizza, and every single one was extremely overbaked. The Nutella pizza was especially bad--it was so hard and crunchy that it was basically inedible. Everyone who tried it took one bite and couldn't eat any more. Half of our pepperoni pizza was literally black from being so badly burned. I called the bakery afterward to let them know about the poor quality of the food, particularly because a significant portion of our order was simply inedible. The employee I spoke with gave me the manager's number and specifically told me to send my complaint to the manager. I did exactly that and never received so much as an acknowledgment or response. Mistakes happen, and I would have been much more understanding if someone had simply responded and attempted to make the situation right. Instead, after spending more than $70 on burnt food, we were completely ignored. I'm incredibly disappointed by both the quality of the food and the lack of customer service. Based on our experience, they clearly did not care whether we received food that was actually edible or whether our complaint was addressed afterward. Alright, I'll be the first to say it. The viral mousse desserts were not that great. The mango had purée in it and it was so little. It was an overwhelming amount of mousse in each one. I thought there was suppose to be a wafer or little cake piece to help balance the mousse. However, I was really disappointed in the lack of flavor. But the peach was probably the top one out do the mango and raspberry I also purchased. We walked in and they were super busy on a Sunday morning. Customers everywhere and there is no sitting space. Maybe 2 high top tables but it was suffocating in there. The service was okay. I believe they didn't speak much English except for the cashier and it was a struggle but we made it through. I went here today, and I was really surprised how large this place was. It wasn't busy at all and the service was outstanding. The mushroom one was delicious for the fruit dessert but it was $15. I can see why because the stem was really hard and it had really good texture throughout. I seriously, wanna go back and try all the flavors. They are also beautiful. I visited this location again recently. This is the closest bakery to where I live so I usually go there to pick up pastries. They have really good pastries and they taste good. Unfortunately, most of the items don't have prices so it gets confusing. I had to ask the employees several times for the price of the items. For service, some employees are nice and friendly. My family and I flew in early to Burbank airport. It was too early to check into our hotel so we decided to stop in for a quick bite to eat and try one of their viral, fruit mousse pastries. I have bought couple of Pistachio crossiants in the past, they are so loaded with delicious pistachio cream and the croissant is soft. Yesterday, I added a Mango mousse (fruit shaped). I've been to Altadena bakery a handful of times over the years. It's not in my normal path of travel and I don't usually remember to go by if I'm in the area but I saw a tik tok showing an updated interior and incredible looking fruit creations so we stopped by. They had a nice selection, mostly Armenian and French pastries. We tried a fruit tart and a sweet bread, both of which were very good. The star of the show is the fruits. They are made with chocolate shaped into the fruit they are filled with and painted bright colors. They have cream and a fruit filling and are really unique! I'll be back to try other flavors. The decor and experience feels upscale and the prices match, however the bakery is a little cramped and a little eclectic for the prices they are charging. I'd give it 4.5 stars. Parking in the neighborhood is easy. This place is BUSY! But, it's not line out the door busy. They're just always people coming in and going out - like non stop. You grab a ticket at the counter and then pay at the register. It goes by pretty quickly. There's only 3 high tops inside, but there's some seating outside. I did order the mushroom, peach, and mango. The mushroom was creamy and definitely had hazelnut spread or mousse in there. The peach one was delightful and tasted like summer. The mango was subtle, but tasted better if you held it in your hand and bit into vs using a fork - don't ask me why. I also ordered two Ajarskis (boat-shaped pizza with cheese-filled crusts, topped with runny eggs). I was a little surprised by the price, but they are pretty large and hearty so I only ate 1/4-1/2 and was able to spread each one out over 3 meals.
