Earlier this year, my friend & I checked-out Perlas Ice Cream for the first time. It was a warm Saturday afternoon, so everyone had the same idea to get ice cream! We found street parking in the nearby residential area and arrived at around 2:30pm. There was a line out-of-the-door with only two staff members working, so we waited about 10 to 20 minutes to order. Although there was a queue, the service and overall experience were great. The staff member was generous with samples and offered to keep our pints in the freezer while we enjoyed our ice cream in the shop. The shop's small, but homey with nostalgic decor and a sunlit indoor seating area. There were a few seats outside of the shop as well. My friend & I shared a flight of four flavors ($14). My faves were the Mais Con Queso (creamy & light with a good amount of corn pieces) and Calamansi Creamsicle (like a fizzy citrus drink and fun contrast to the other flavors). As mentioned, we did buy pints ($16/each) to take home; I chose a pint of the Buko Pandan, which had a pretty green color, light pandan flavor, and specks of coconut. Bummer - the ice cream was just OK. Popping all over my algorithm, I was curious to try out the newest Filipino ice cream shop that had opened up. We bought two flights to try eight flavors, and I found only three decent: Black Sesame, Peach Mango Graham & Calamansi Creamsicle. The black sesame had a solid nutty flavor and wasn't overly sweet. The peach mango graham had good texture, and the flavor wasn't subtle. The calamansi creamsicle was tangy. We tried the usual Filipino flavors like Ube, Buko Pandan, & Mais con Queso. The flavors were flat. The Red Bean and Pineapple Cake was overly sweet. For two flights, it costs $37.13, including tax and tip. No notes on the service, it was good. The place is clean. It's a small ice cream shop with a few seats and serving up unique Asian (mostly Filipino) flavors. I got to sample the milo crunch, buko pandan, and white coffee, and I really enjoyed the milo crunch & white coffee. I also bought a pint of the Brown Butter Pili (flavor is similar to butter pecan). What a gem! A pearl! All the flavors are very good, but my favorite is the white coffee on waffle. White coffee, creamy milk latte flavor with cookie crunch. The calamansi creamsicle is citrus but creamer. Mais con cheese is sweet with bits of corn and hint of salt that balances the sweetness. The workers are very friendly. Came here on a Friday night after seeing intagram reels on my feed and was curious to see what the hype was about. The store had a very clean and minimalist aesthetic which I really appreciate. The staff seemed friendly and accomodating. Unfortunately the ice cream was just ok in my opinion. We ordered two flights to test out 8 flavors. I expected the ube flavor to jump out and I hate to say it was a little flat. The pandan was ok. The red bean didn't taste like red bean. It was just sweet. Perla's is a nice little gem, tucked below the Sparr Heights area just under Schreiner's. They have a pretty unique menu featuring Filipino flavors. I tried the Calamansi Creamsicle, White Coffee, and Lousiana Banana. All were excellent. I've never had calamansi before but it's really nice and refreshing but not overpowering at all. The menu says lime but it's more orange/citrus, hence the creamsicle name. Service was friendly and it's a really cozy setting too! After dinner, we wanted dessert and this was one our way back to Santa Clarita. When we got there, there were several people outside sitting in front of the establishment. There were also a few people inside. We ended up order the kids size for me which is always the perfect size. I got the ube flavor since it is my favorite. He got the "flight" size which came with 4 half scoops of any flavor. For the flavors he chose: Louisiana Banana, Milo Crunch, Buko Pandan and Tsokolate. He said all flavors were good.
